View Full Version : WHAT IS THE BEST LEAGUE
GOONERBHOY 03-11-1999, 06:55:AM I`d say either the english which possesses the classiest football or (and some may call me mad)but i actually enjoy the Scottish style - Quick high tempo no time on the ball and a real bloodbath especially the old-Firm clash.and there is none of that diving you see abroad.
smack 03-11-1999, 11:03:AM I was sure you would say the english league.
i think the strongest has always been the italian serie A. Now the spanish and the english are prettu strong too.
King Blue 03-11-1999, 01:09:PM Best league is the Italian but the best match is Rangers vs Celtic, there's nothing better than watching a bunch of tims walking home with their tails between their legs and their heads down dreaming about having a team half as good as the Gers.
Baggio10 03-11-1999, 01:36:PM The best is Italian Serie A
Fat Bhoy Tim 03-11-1999, 03:18:PM Tims wanting to be as good as the Huns.
What have the huns ever won ?
The silence is as defeaning
jules 03-11-1999, 03:25:PM I think the best leagues are in order
English
Italian
Spanish or the french league
PolishPower 03-11-1999, 07:35:PM Best leagues to watch in order:
1.Italian
2.English
3.German
4.Spanish
French seems to be 5th best however i only see their european cup games.
GROBAR_OTAGO 04-11-1999, 02:47:AM The best league is the seria A, but the Premier League and bundesliga are also very good
1.Italy
2.england
3.spain
4.germany
5.greece/france
Inter Milan USA 04-11-1999, 03:41:AM 1. Italian Serie A
2. English Premier
3. Spanish La Liga
4. German Bundesliga
5. Argentina League ( A league that doesn't get enough credit)
Icabola2070 04-11-1999, 08:20:AM In sequential order:
1. Italian Seria A
2. English Premier League
3. Spanish League
4. France League
5. Dutch League
based on players transfer value and wages!
Israel 04-11-1999, 09:10:AM Are you all blind?
Canīt you see that the three spanish teams in the Champions league, have lead their groups?
Personally, I think the best league is the spanish, folowed really close by italian, and then the English, German and French leagues.
Please, I just say this by the latest positions and scores in the games.
Barcelona, Valencia and Real Madrid are not may be the best teams in the world, but they fight in teir league with very hard teams . they the first but no in spanish league.
Rostislav 06-11-1999, 10:28:PM The best is English , surely. Israel says Spanish. Yes- Barca, Valencia , and R.Madrid lead the groups in CL, but will Racing, Deportivo, Rayo , or Betis, etc do it - no!
But will Liverpool, Totn`am,Villa,W`Ham,do?
I think they will be not the last there.
English league has more equal teams, than Primero , and even Serie A do. And they play beautiful game , and no English (and British in general) team won`t do match like Bayer-Monaco in 1997 CL, when Barthez and Collina could freely sit down and talk about the weather, while Kirsten & co just stood in the center with the ball behind them. Chelsea crushed Hertha even although they both needed a draw , and they fought , like in the final game - you won`t see it in other land, than Britain
PolishPower 07-11-1999, 07:21:AM Rostislav I agree that the competition is maybe more even in England, but fact is Italian league has more great teams than England, and almost every week you have a match between two great teams, while same cannot be said of England.
Canoe 07-11-1999, 04:04:PM Gotta be the English Premier league. I agree with Rostislav, there's a lot of great quality teams and upsets are always likely. And I like the pace of the english games, always bound to bring in the goals and quality goals too. I love the physical nature of the game too.
To judge leagues based on wages and player values is laughable. Does anybody here think Anelka is worth the 23 mill transfer and 50k odd pounds that he get's weekly ? I think you can rather rate these as the most overpaid leagues or something like that.
Polishpower, can you backup your saying that the Italian league has more great teams then england ?
As for other leagues, I like the Eerste divisie ( Holland ) , Bundesliga is okay.
PolishPower 07-11-1999, 09:03:PM Inter and AC Milan, Lazio, Roma, Parma, Fiorentina, Juventus.
England great teams right now are Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U. and Liverpool although that last is playing badly. Leeds is a good team but just don't have the guns to stay at top, notice the style of their loss to Wimbledon today, they didn't have one good shot on goal the whole game.
I live in USA and the coverage of soccer here is better than almost any country in the world, if not the best.

DirkDiggler 08-11-1999, 06:50:AM English Premier League
Fat Bhoy: We won today didn't we? In case you forgot the final score was 4-2
GOONERBHOY 08-11-1999, 07:26:AM DirkDiggler you can F**K off and take that bunch of diving imports with you - Men of the match Jackie McNamara, Eyal Berkovic, Allan Stubbs and Marko Viduka.
ACiDO 08-11-1999, 01:08:PM 1. Italian
2. Spanish League
3. German League
4. Brazilian League
5. French League
6. Greece League
7. Turkey League
8. Argentina League
9. Finnish League
10. English League
Rostislav 08-11-1999, 04:22:PM Man , I undertand ,you`re Finnish , but English league after Greek, Turkish,Argentina(have no clue of how they play ,but their best guys are in Europe) and Finnish ??? You hate English for some reason , I think. I haven`t put Ukrainian one before FA premiership. This was the first foreign footbal, that we saw in the USSR (that was FA cup). And that was (and is fantastic) . Our league was one of the best that days , but we all fell in love with the English football.
But that was REAL English one http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif (with almost no foreigners). And that was really great. I think REAL BRITISH FOOTBALL IS THE BEST!
At least for a reason, that they invented it.
Inter Milan USA 08-11-1999, 08:04:PM Polish Power, wow, your coverage is great! My local TV and local cable company is crap! I only get MLS, English Premier Highlights, Champions League and a Spanish La Liga Match
I've got to say that the Greek league is
really interesting and there is a lot of action especially when two rival teams play
like Olympiakos(#1,baby)and Panathinaikos.The
crowd goes crazy and they start breaking stuff and shooting rocks, bats, sticks etc..on
the players or on the other fans. But I've got to give credit to the Spanish,Italian,German,English,Turkish and French leaugues.
Aussie Soccer 09-11-1999, 06:24:AM the australian soccer league
GROBAR_OTAGO 09-11-1999, 08:03:AM ops...forgot to mention the yugoslav 4th division, gotta love loznica
GOONERBHOY 09-11-1999, 09:30:AM Aussie soccer?
Are you mad.Yeah maybe it`s improving with teams like Northern Spirit and parra power but the level of play is still light years behind say the english & spanish leagues.
But anyway go the Strikers.
galah 09-11-1999, 10:05:AM Aussie league for sure!!!
We may not have all the class but at least we play it tough!
Aussies seem not to go down in fake injury spasms for the slightest contact as the rest of the world leagues are inclined to do. We unfortunatly are starting to adapt your cry baby attitude, so my opinion might change within a couple of years.
Comon, get up you whoos!
galah 09-11-1999, 10:06:AM Rugby League!
Go the Brisbane Broncos!
Sorry. Just had to do it.
GOONERBHOY 09-11-1999, 10:14:AM Although i hate league i still like to watch the broncos but hey this is a footy site oh sorry it`s soccer over here isn`t it enough of that.
I see what you mean about the european leagues and the diving etc. You should try watching Scottish football it doesn`t have the diving (unless your watching rangers) and it has passion, skill and is fast and high tempo. Do you have Austar or fox GALAH?
Demis 10-11-1999, 01:59:PM Hey Rostislav you say that English league is the best and english teams are very powerful
Tell me did Arsenal lose and get disqualified by PAOK Salonica or is it just my imagination...?
Take Arsenal or Liverpool to play against AEK Athens or Olympiakos
They don't stand a chance...
Only Man utd can beat them but now United is like crap...
So cut the crap about premier league
Demis 10-11-1999, 02:03:PM Ti egine M1ke mono olympiakos kai panathinaikos paizoun derbi
i AEK oxi?
a katalava...
de se pairnei na milas gia AEK giati synexeia xanete!!

Canoe 10-11-1999, 08:03:PM Demis - Nobody has ever been disqualified for losing a match. They might've been knocked out, but not disqualified. HUGE difference. I wouldn't bet on AEK athens or Olympiakos beating Arsenal or Liverpool or even man utd, got better things to do with my money. In fact, on a given day almost any team can beat any other team, and that's what makes football so exciting, the game can change in seconds, a player sent off, a penalty given, a penalty not given and so on.
PolishPower - great selection of footie coverage there. All along I thought americans were only interested in american football ( why do they call it that when it's evidently not played with the foot alone ? )
GOONERBHOY 13-11-1999, 08:37:AM I love football,
so i try to watch as much as possible and this usually means watching alot of different leagues but i cannot watch the spanish league, i`ve tried many a time and i finally watched a full game it was Real Madrid V some other team and Real came back to win 3-2 but the game was totally ruined by fakes and dives it must be hell for good defenders having all these cheats around them, a huge difference from the Scottish PL.
konnak 13-11-1999, 12:45:PM I think Greek League is the best because it has derbies that just don't exist in other leagues. When e.g. Panathinaikos playes against Olympiakos or AEK life itself gains value (!). I don't think games between Inter and Milan AC reach the one tenth (1/10) of the passion of greek derbies.
Demis 13-11-1999, 12:45:PM Canoe
PAOK Salonica 1-0 Arsenal
Arsenal 1-1 PAOK Salonica in 1998
PAOK qualified for next round Arsenal didn't
Gremio's 13-11-1999, 05:30:PM Top 6:
1 - Italian League
2 - Spanish League
3 - Brazilian League
4 - German League
5 - English League
6 - Argentinian League
GOONERBHOY 14-11-1999, 12:48:AM When i started this poll i meant what league Plays the best style, is the best to watch and has the class etc.Keep it up anyway.
MLSman 14-11-1999, 05:00:AM 1.English
2.Italian
3.German
4.Spanish
5.French
6.Portuguese
7.Brazilian
8.MLS
Canoe 14-11-1999, 03:58:PM Demis - First things first, that match was in 97 and not 98, it did fall in the 97/98 season.
Hmmm...... and you are trying to say that PAOK is a better side than Arsenal then? REALLY ? If I remember correctly, Arsenal went on to win the league and FA cup that season. And PAOK won what again ? Hmmmmmm ???? So thus the better team isn't the one that went on to achieve things but rather the one that progressed to the following round of a euro cup at the expense of that side.
If anything I can only draw one conclusion here. In 96/97 we lost to Borussia Moenchengladbach (sp?) and the following year we lost to PAOK. So then BMoenchengladbach and PAOK should be about the same strength, right ? Need I say more ?
burner 14-11-1999, 05:26:PM bah...what are you guys saying that Brazilian league is one of the best leagues??
Brazilian league is the worst in the world!! (ps: I'm Brazilian) There's no relegation for the famous teams here. If you loose in the field, you can win in the Justice (mastered by Rio de Janeiro's clubs, like: Botafogo,Vasco,Flamengo) there's no relegation for these clubs!!!
The best leagues are:
1- English Premiership
2- Italian Series A
3- Spanish
4- Bundesliga
5- French
