Matthew Taylor would be a good target, but I'd prefer Reo-Coker - He's got the box 2 box game and good stamina United require, also offers a different game than Michael Carrick (could also form a good partnership with him when Scholsey isn't available) Plus he looks to be edging towards the Upton Park exit anyway.

As for strikers, I think United should possibly go for Darren Bent or Klaus Jan Huntelaar.

Possibly another winger would be a useful addition, suggest Morten Gamst Pedersen. Though with Ji Sung Park back, this isn't as urgent as it was.

Darrent bent is as good as any EPL striker on his day but i dunno if he's united quality.

That's true!
Pedersen has been poor this season,it looks like he is just playing avarage every game, not with the same sharpness as last season. It looks like he's not happy at Blackburn but i dont know.
he showed his quality last year and i still think he got the quality's but he ain't giving 100%
I still rate him high and would like him to come to OT.
at united he would have to fight for a place in the team and that always keeps the player's giving 100%, that aint happening in Blackburn at the moment.looks like he is the 1th choice no matter how he play!

fergie's mind is working now, it had been in hibernation for years, in the transfer market that is. seems like he has made bids for antonio puerta and jesus navas.

22-12-2006, 01:33:AM
Its not exactly clear that it was us who made the bid for Puerta and Navas...Their agents has just released a statement that a 'very important' European club has made an offer for his highly-rated clients. Arsenal are also interested in these two wingers so nothing is confirmed yet.We have been linked to many young forwards approaching January but I have never heard of Gabriel Torres?? A young powerful striker from Ligue 1 was linked with us a couple of months back.Andre Pierre Gignac is his name and he plays for Lorient.Heard of him yet lads?

hahaha the majority of that compilation is him missing :D I could make a compilation that long that made Fletcher look as good as that.

honestly Manuel Fernandes isn't a player for compilations, the type of player that has everything, yet he doesn't show off, wether because of his position on field (defensive midfielder) or because he's a complete player whose main job is to make the team play, without fantastic long passes, or fantastic tricks/dribling etc. although he can do them pretty good.

I honestly believe he has everything to be the best player of the world in his position. He has strenght, speed, technique, a fantastic strong shot, and he covers the ball like no one, you gotta suet hard to take him the ball off, he also seems to have a high level of concentration in the game, he can get out of impossible situations like when your surrounded in a small piece of field by some players, he'll find a way out to pass the ball, or to drible the guy and pass later, a team player above the individual... oh, and when the opposite team's player has the ball he'll not let you pass, even if he has to run all over the ******* field to get the ball, he'll get it.

If it wasn't for his ******* disapointing attitude by leaving us after the money (modern football, kinda getting used to it :|) without thinking in the consequences, and now that Pompey doesn't want him, we don't want him either because he's not showing will to stay on the club who made who he is. But i'm shure his mentality can change, and United might be the right place for that change. He's a ******* pearl man, he's a must buy, and he's still young, 20 or 21 if i'm not wrong.

and btw, compilations are nice to see (at least for me), but even Beto can look good in a compilation (H)

Speaking compilations I was browsing Youtube (#) and came across this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLg-4jqSVBA

After watching this there is no doubt (#) in my mind that we must keep Smith. The guy always goes in hard yet 85% the time get all ball and on top of that total team player the real classy type. Just remember what he did for us 2 seasons back in the first half of 04/05 when Ruud was out injured he was banging them in. We can not afford to let a player like him leave the club (#)(unless on loan).

how has manuele been for portsmouth this season?

RuiCosta_10
23-12-2006, 03:11:AM
he has hardly played,

the deal was that he was loaned to pompey, and if he had 3 consecutive games pompey would pay us something around 9 M €, so, as they didn't wanted to pay that amount of money, they don't let him play, and since Benfica won't let him leave for less, he's coming back to Portugal.

That's why he wasn't a starter against Arsenal last week.

that's why, it also takes time to adapt to a diferent type of football. He can take the place to Makelele or Essien one day, obviously not now, he still has much to develop, after all he's still 20, and those are world class players, i don't know about taking their place, but he shure wouldn't make it easy to them to have a constant place in the team.

The comparison to Makelele isn't fair, he can be much better, because he's great attacking, great technique, pass and shot.

and believe me, he's not overrated when in Portugal the press wonderkid is Moutinho  he is underrated!

because he was injured for a long time, the midfield partnership at Portsmouth is probably the strong point of their team and Fernandes is not adapted to the league and won't get adapted unless he plays.

Portsmouth are acting like major c*nts anyway trying to lower the price just because Benfica was nice enough to let him go on a loan. F*ck em.

and he's not really a Makelele type, more like an Essien type, but definitely one of the most talented young CMs I've ever seen.

listen i didnt say he is better then Makelele NOW! this is Mourinho's exact words

His strong positional sense and tight marking are so impressive that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is known to be a keen admirer. Mourinho went as far as to compare his young compatriot to Claude Makelele, stating that the Portuguese midfielder was better than the Frenchman at the same age. In the wake of these comparisons, many Benfica and Portugal fans have nicknamed their young star Manelelê.

and he is not a regular at portsmouth? he was injured so then he came off the bench a few games and made 2 straight starts, he was suppose to start there last game against arsenal also but there president told there coach not to play him because in his loan-contract it said if he starts 3 straight games they have to pay us the full amount and they dont have the finances now to

Virgo
23-12-2006, 02:00:PM
oh they do have the money, they're just being c*nts and trying to f*ck Benfica over because we were kind enough to let him go on a loan to make sure he'd recover from the injury.

Benfica would never have agreed the loan move if it weren't for the price Portsmouth said they would pay.

To be fair to Chelsea, Kalou scored a perfectly good goal called for offside and i'm pretty sure that Heskey's second goal was offside. Cole might have played him on, but it's unlikely, didn't see the goal with the angle on Cole.

heeheeheeheeheehee....you wish. We aint even found our form this season YET. When we do........think about that. When we dont have to play our THIRD choice GK. (Do we actually know the name of Uniteds 3rd choice GK)?

Joe Cole, Petr Cech, Carlo Cudicini and John Terry all missing but due to return very soon will just about sort out any little problems we might be having. At the moment we are compromising our players and formations to battle through until we are back to full strength. Just thought you needed a reminder of that.

I'm pretty sure that the way you play right now IS your top form, minus the useless goal leaking made through Boulahrouz and Terry being out, unless you think that you will hit top form before New Year and win all the remaining 19 games.

Where exactly is Chelsea's improved form supposed to come from? Shevchenko suddenly turning into a top EPL striker? Ballack and Lampard sorting out "who is better at what" and "who should play how to be the most efficient" in the center midfield? Or will the return of Cuducini just suddenly fix the form of the whole team and they will be blazing on all fronts?

It wasn't the fact that Chelsea aren't top form yet that allowed Wigan to get back into the game, it was Chelsea thinking that they won the game already and some "interesting" decisions from both linesmen.

But Happy Christmas to you too. :ewan:

As you know Help, our first 11 might not look like a depleted squad but it comprises on a week to week basis of players who would NOT generally be first choice players. I would like to see how confident Man U's defence would be in a succession of games without Van der Sar and with a sub standard GK like Hilario(who is doing his best but its not good enough). Our defence is nervous and NOT in synch with each other. Hence the amount of crap goals we have conceeded since BOTH our GK's were slaughtered at Reading. You are not silly and you know what sort of impact having a GK like Hilario would have on any defence.

The addition of JT speaks for itself. I don't need to add any more about him. Without Joe Cole we are missing our only potent left winger. Without him we are "making do" with what we have. The tactics and formations are being compromised to include players who are not yet ready for regular inclusion into the first team.

You speak as if Sheva will never get any better than waht he is right now. You should and probably do know better than that mate.

A settled lineup is very important to a side as well you know. Since losing our 2 GK's and other players, settled is certainly not a word to be used for Chelsea at the moment.

And to say that the way we are playing right now IS our top form is just silly and provocative. I don't think you believe that for one moment really. :D

manutd4eva
23-12-2006, 11:12:PM
The diamond midfield formation is Chelsea's biggest problem.

The sooner Moureen gets his head out his ass and realise that Shevchenko and Ballack were crap buys and were not needed at the time, the better Chelsea will be. This worthless formation is just to facilitate those transfers.

Anyways, long may the diamond continue, and hope their luck runs out, three consecutive games with the same luck is just.....:|

And to say that the way we are playing right now IS our top form is just silly and provocative. I don't think you believe that for one moment really. :D
Not having Cech and Terry in there does make you weaker, however, the players that would be regular no matter what are playing at their best right now in my opinion. I know Chelsea can play better than they did at Everton and Wigan, but i believe formation is the problem not form.

Shevchenko, i don't even know what to think of him, he was great for Kiev and great for Milan and yet he is still so bad here in EPL and as much as i still think that its all just a matter of time, the longer this time goes the more i think about Veron. He really was world class talent in Italy as well.

And Ballack, Lampard just doesn't seem to work in midfield. They are both players that want to control the midfield and seem to get into each other's way, can you imagine United's midfield with two Scholes' in there (again Veron/Scholes partnership)?

I believe that your players are playing at their best, just without Cech and Terry and with a wrong formation or selection of players. And i'm pretty sure that you would be killing teams like Wigan right now, if you had Lampard-Makelele in the middle and Drogba-Crespo upfront. Why did you need Ballack anyways? Makelele was playing better than any defensive midfielder out there.

Just to sum this up a bit, you think that Chelsea's problem for some of the latest displays is their current form and i think that their problem for these displays is their formation. You only need to go back as far as United to see how much a difference can changing formation from 4-4-2 to 4-5-1 and vice versa make. Don't know about you but to me those are both legit explanations and there is no way in knowing which one is the correct one.

meh, which part of "if we find a quality and cheaper replacement in the summer then we might consider selling him but now we need him for the CL and don't want to weaken our team" is so hard to understand for the media and for Fergie?

"We will wait and see about that. David will probably make contact with them. He’s always in touch with the G14 anyway and he sees (Bayern executives) Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeness regularly. So we will see."

David Gill is always welcomed though.

Manchester United director David Gill had spoken to Hoeneß over the phone on three or four occasions, the Munich official revealed. "I told him he should feel free to call me every morning at half past eight and we'll talk about the weather in England or drinking tea, but not about Owen Hargreaves," Hoeneß continued, "but apparently he didn't quite get the message."

Merry Christmas. :)

The thing I don't understand about Bayern is why keep a player that so desperately doesn't want to play for you. I hope your right, we don't need Hargreaves. He might not even perform the same after that broken leg.

Merry Christmas.

That's an old quote. I remember this since end of summer. You do realize that if United persist, you WILL eventually sell Owen, unless Owen himself says that he loves Bayern and doesn't want to play for any other team. The days when clubs held all the cards are long gone, it's players and their agents now.

Have a Merry Christmas too :jap:

Merry Christmas to all you guys and SG!

SAF must have big plans with Owen, he isn't giving up. He was right with Carrick, he balanced our midfield and maybe SAF sees something in Owen too which could be a great addition to our current squad

garlei

I reckon Carrick is the one to replace Scholes. Carrick isn't good at shooting the ball yet, or arriving late in the box, but he does have good passing ability. Hopefully the coaches will try to develop Carrick's attacking game.

Hargreaves will play a Keano, Phil Neville role. Not the best passer, but certainly a good defensive midfielder.

Daz
24-12-2006, 09:52:PM
Hargreaves is incredible at dictating the pace of games, when you watch him play for England you can see that he is the one that speeds the game up and brings bursts of enthusiasm and fast-paced passing movement into the games.

I honestly can't wait to finally see him play for United, and from what i've read from people's opinions on here of him it's pretty clear that he's incredibly underrated and people can't seem to see why SAF wants him so bad.

25-12-2006, 04:48:AM
That would be a hell of a new tactical option available to Fergie. When he wants to slow the game down and control the ball, put in Carrick, but when he wants to speed things up and get physical then put in Hargreaves.

Well If United are chasing Hargreaves this hard then SAF must have a gameplan in mind when he arrives. Personally I like Nigel Reo-Coker, I think he'd be reminicent of a young Keano - he has an excellent workrate. Also I'd consider Bolton's Kevin Nolan, Newcastle's Scott Parker or even possibly Danielle Di Rossi for our midfield.

Other players who I think would add to United are Gabriel Agbonlahor of Aston Villa, Matthew Taylor of Portsmouth and young Klaus Jan Huntelaar of Ajax.

ronaldo is making a fantastic season and has already scored 10 goals which makes him the team's top scorer
last season he was already very important in the team, but this year is think he's the most valuable player of man utd
and i'm not saying that because he's portuguese
i believe that ronaldo and rooney are the most influential and crucial player in the squad
i think that soon he'll certainly be the best player in the world

Also I'd consider Bolton's Kevin Nolan, Newcastle's Scott Parker or even possibly Danielle Di Rossi for our midfield.

Other players who I think would add to United are Gabriel Agbonlahor of Aston Villa, Matthew Taylor of Portsmouth
Nolan has said he'll never leave Bolton unless they literally kick him out. Newcastle aren't going to let Parker go for anything less than what we could get Hargreaves for. De Rossi would also be expensive. Plus Hargreaves is better than all those guys.

Both Agbonlahor and Taylor are in great FORM at the moment, but that most certainly doesn't mean they've got the talent to play for United. Just look at players like Heskey who were bought for ridiculous amounts of money when they were on form, but proved to not have the overall talent to maintain that at a higher club.

Friging Silvestre, ****s up again, would have been nice scoring 6 goals in 2 games and 0 conceeded, but NO, Mikael has other ideas.
Give the dude a break! Most defenders would've done the same thing in that situation. I don't think he played that badly at all considering the amount of game time he's had recently.

Fergie said the bet was 15 goals again. He's expecting 15 from Ole as well.
Wazza was unlucky yesterday - he did everything but score.

Kieran Richardson hasn't progressed as I'd hoped, I thought he looked class for England on his debut and for WBA on loan - he just can't seem to turn it on for United consistently. Ji Sung Park played well, he played a key part in the second goal.

And Ronny is in awesome form, saw the second half on MUTV - the boy was everywhere :shades: That's one of the best halves I've seen him play.

Daz

Richardson DOES have talent, and to be honest you can't really expect much from him when he's only playing small amounts of games most of the time without a consistent run to prove what he can do. I'd like to see him go out on loan again to get a regular first team run.

Fernandez
28-12-2006, 02:09:PM
Sorry. I'd have to disagree with you there. Richardson had enough opportunities to show what he can do within the past 1 1/2 seasons. His talent had been wasted with his attitude and he can't perform in the odd game against the likes of Southend. Who'd you rather have as a back-up for Giggs? Park or Richardson?

MikeyM
28-12-2006, 04:49:PM
No-one's arguing that Richardson doesn't have talent - you could see that from the games I mentioned, but it is his attitude that's the problem as others have said. Without the right attitude the skill is not enough, Richardson's attitude seems to be that he feels he's invincible and therefore he doesn't push himself as he should. If he applied himself then he could be a very useful player. As for the choice between him and Park, I'd take Park anyday of the week.

You must not remember them too well then because we were first with Rio in the team, but once he got banned we finished 3rd.

Silvestre better straighten himself up because the last 3 goals we conceeded were all his mistakes, if Vidic was playing today Reading would have never even had the first goal in the first place.

Whatever we won and 6 points clear, Ronaldo is in the form of his life and currently the best player in EPL no doubt, 6 goals in 3 games for winger is not bad at all, hopefully he keeps this up.

Also, what's wrong with Saha, if Fergie keeps resting him, he will end up like Rooney after coming back from a suspension and the last thing we want is for Saha to lose his form, he needs to play against Newcastle and give Rooney a rest.

1 more game and our strikers will be better covered than Chelsea's. Ole, Rooney, Saha and Larsson! Damn, that even makes Drogba, Shevchenko, Kalou look weak.

New Year also belongs to Cristiano :mexican: another two goals he's on fire! :bob:
6 points ahead of Chelski, just read an interview with Drogba, he says:"United is not used to be on top and we will soon be there again it's just a matter of time" hahahaha arrogant f*ck claims that he's the player of the season already but today at MOTD I heard Shearer say that Cristiano is the player of the season so far for him :amika:
Chelski is champions a few times and they have simply forgotten how many times ManUtd were champions don't make me laugh "not used to be on top" that's the joke of the century

The two goals conceded today is not good and van der Sar didn't look good as well a few times but 3 points is what matters now with Chelsea spilling points. Talk about a full Schedule, in two days another game awaits.
Awaygame against the Toons and then two in a row vs Villa but those will be homegames.

Happy New Year everyone (before I forget)

Ronaldo was already a revelation when he joined the club. He has matured into the player we all love and see and that has tremendously helped the club in its bid to win the league title and end Chelsea's two-year dominance. And he isn't an arrogant cock like Drogba as well. He doesn't go around telling people he is great, he lets his teammates and other people (Coppell etc.) do the talking for him.

P.S. don't be surprised at a cheeky loan bid for javier.

2007 footballer of the year coming up...

He won't win the PFA or writers' awards, they're still bitter over the ****e WC England had (and still hold Ronny responsible). Quite a change come over Mr Shearer on MOTD recently don't you think?

"If I were Rooney I'd stick one on Ronaldo the moment I saw him in preseason training" and now "He can do everything, player of the season etc" :)

Ronaldo playing awesome, and United 6 clear at New Years eve -
Ha ha, In the words of John "Hannibal" Smith "I love it when a plan comes together" (H)

Ronaldo :hit: any EPL winger.

United are really going to push for hargreaves it seems. So do you guys think that this means that United are really going to stick with the 4-5-1 and maybe ferguson is going to try to turn Rooney into an upgraded Scholes, or will Carrick and Hargreaves have to fight for a place in the team?

MikeyM
01-01-2007, 12:20:AM
Well, it's pretty much academic for another three months seeing as Owen won't be anywhere near match fit (that's if we get him). More than likely I think that they would alternate depending on opponents - it would give us options in midfield, which is something we lack. Also I could see Scholsey's role being advanced and SAF playing a 4-4-2 with Saha playing a lesser role (Rooney would be up with Scholes IMO)

Though as I say, We haven't got him yet - and he won't have recovered from his broken leg. Also I'd be nervous of United gambling big money on someone who hasn't fully recovered anywhere near enough (though it paid off with Wazza) I look at Real Madrid's decision with Woodgate and it does concern me. I think Nigel Reo-Coker would be an excellent alternative and probably cheaper too.

(Yeesss - first post of 2007 0n the board is mine!)

Happy new year y'all.

Ok, from now on, if you don't feel to confident, you are NOT ALLOWED to post here, infact don't even go to SG until the game is over.

I hope Fergie is happy that his favourite player got 75 minutes because if Carrick started, those goals would have never happened or atleast they wouldn't have mattered much.
At the start of the game Fletcher wasn't controlling it to get the team going, after Milner goal the team at least woke up and scored 2, but then against after Scholes' second, we tried to get a third but there was no real support or control from midfield and Newcastle's second was on the cards any moment then.

What i didn't like though, is that after Edgar's goal the team still didn't try hard, most of the players were still walking like we were winning 2-2. It was a case of 2 points dropped then a point won. With so many chances and shots, Newcastle should have never been given a chance.

And David friging EDGAR!!!!! I remember him, he used to play for my town/city with a few friends of mine and i didn't know that he was even playing until the 65th minute when the commentator mention my city, and then 5 minutes later :nape: :nape: . Couldn't pick another team to score against?

Great/good game lads. A bit of luck involved in Edgar's equaliser, but think we deserved that bit of luck. Even after that the last ten minutes didnt make for comfortable watching, Solano's save off the line being the pick of the bunch.

Well, yeah maybe Nick. But in truth, most players were fairly poor. Park was useless in possession most of the time, Ronaldo had an off game, as did Rooney, Giggs was wasteful, Scholes was probably the best player on the pitch. Edgar only got MOTM for his goal. I think Carrick was missed. Perhaps Park should have been taken off for Carrick, and push Fletch on the right - I thought he played okay.

Not a good performance by any stretch of the imagination. It took Newcastle to score a goal to get United to up the tempo, which could be a bit of a concern. Although Newcastle were lucky. I'm sure Larsson will be quite happy at what he saw today, chances were created. I'm sure he'll score a few.
