Bad news....Silvestre has signed a new deal until 2009.

I won't mind his crosses or long balls at all, it's his concentration I'm worried about.

I admit I was against getting him at first, but he's capable of some insane saves at times, and I'm sure he'll get us out of some tricky situations. Now for another midfielder. (6)

On SSN they were saying Ferguson is expecting atleast another two signings.

If that's true then I think that either Senna or Diarra + a striker will come, that would give Rossi the oppertunity to go out on loan

so nuno you got a dam hot sig who is that chick on the foto with the hot ass, and about tevez i hope that we will get him because then we will have a great striker force, dont gett me wrong i like saha but he isnt constently so he cant score 20 goals or more in a season.

And with tevez coming we will have a good competition for the strikers so that will help us get few goals

You can say whatever you want about Silvestre, but he is a very loyal player for us, no complaining, always gives his all, he doesn't want out even after the arrival of Evra, Heinze, Vidic etc. And on his day he can be a very good defender, especially at leftback. When Rio got suspended he had a very good spell, we were even depending on him not to get injured etc

Other news: This makes sense, about spending money on players

Sevilla just got pwned. Ronaldo played like a real man today, no diving, no complaining, plenty of skill, good end product. If he does this regularly throughout a season, he'll be contender for player of the year, no kidding.

Park looks as if he's fully settled in the team and country now, fantastic skill, fantastic workrate. Should be a solid starter in the team. Evra is looking like 10 times better since he signed. He's a true attacking fullback in every sense of the word, great skill at times, not shy to clean someone's clock with a tackle as well.

Good match.

Boss predicts big things for Kuszczak

Sir Alex Ferguson is confident Tomasz Kuszczak will mature and grow into a top goalkeeper at Old Trafford.

The United boss revealed how he had identified the Polish international as a potential transfer target last season after being impressed by his performances during West Brom's relegation battle.

"It's a real test for any young keeper to be in a team that's in that situation," explained Sir Alex. "That's when we took notice of him and our goalkeeping coach Tony Coton went to watch him quite a few times over the course of the season.

"We also feel that at 24-years-old, Tomasz's age will be to the benefit of Manchester United in the future.

"I don't think goalkeepers really mature until their mid-twenties. Peter Schmeichel was 27 when he joined us and even then we were only talking about his potential.

"There are some exceptions such as Gianluigi Buffon in Italy. But it's very unusual."

The Reds now have a wealth of goalkeeping talent on their books, although both Tim Howard and Ben Foster will spend the coming season on loan at Everton and Watford respectively.

Edwin van der Sar looks set to retain his position as United's first choice stopper, but Sir Alex insists Kuszcazk is more than capable of competing for the post.

"Tomasz is here as a live competitor for the first team spot," confirmed Sir Alex. "Of course, Edwin has been fantastic and he's an example to any young goalkeeper.

"He has great experience, presence and personality and that has been a fantastic help to us as we saw last season.

"He's the target to aim for and that will help the young keepers develop. They will all benefit enormously from having Edwin to look up to and learn from."

http://www.manutd.com/

On a side note, Kuszczak was subbed in the second period of the Seville game where Man UTD won 3-0.
Seems like Kuszczak can only get better with Man UTDs help, can't wait to see his play improvement for Poland in Euro 2008.

Great win for United last nite.I was expecting Sevilla to give us a real challenge but they were dull in the first half and only mediocre at best in the second. We deservedly won the game nonetheless. The team is looking good albiet a few niggling injuries to players like Neville,Rio,Carrick and Rooney.I must say that our preseason preparations have been successful.Bring on a couple of players and we should be ready for the new season.Cheers.

Gerrard dubs Ronaldo a 'disgrace'

Gerrard was unhappy at Ronaldo's gamesmanship
Steven Gerrard has branded Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo "a disgrace" for his part in Wayne Rooney's sending-off at the World Cup.

Gerrard was furious when Ronaldo got involved after Rooney appeared to stamp on Portugal defender Ricardo Carvalho.

"Sadly a dark side stains Cristiano Ronaldo's game," writes Gerrard in his autobiography, which is being serialised in the News of the World.

"His part in Wayne Rooney's dismissal was a disgrace."

The Liverpool midfielder, who was appointed vice-captain of England this week, expressed particular dissatisfaction with the wink that Ronaldo appeared to give to his team-mates on the bench after Rooney had been dismissed.

Me and the other players constantly claimed we could win the World Cup - it was stupid

Steven Gerrard

"What really [got to] all the England players was Ronaldo's wink to his bench. It was a wink which said 'job done'. How could he do that to his Manchester United team-mate?

"On the bus after the game Wayne asked me: 'What do you think about the wink?'

"I said: 'Honestly, Wazza, if we were playing Spain and [Liverpool team-mates] Xabi Alonso or Luis Garcia winked at the referee or gave a signal for me to be sent off, I'd never speak to them again.'"

When Argentine referee Horacio Elizondo halted play and then brandished a red card, Gerrard initially thought it was for a Portuguese player.

"Players like Carvalho are damaging football, not Wayne Rooney," writes Gerrard.

"It's coached into them that when an incident like that happens, they go to work on the ref.

"Ronaldo was at the front. But the blame does not just rest with him. Five or six Portuguese players were at it."

Gerrard also believes England's players' cockiness in the World Cup cost them dearly.

"We are not as good as we think we are. England were guilty of over-confidence. Me and the other players constantly claimed we could win the World Cup - it was stupid."

Good ol' Gerrard eh, making sure he says what all the English fans want to hear. Just as long as it sells his book. This remember is the same tw*t that said he'd never dive and have 'serious' words with his team mates if they dived, he even tried it against portugal for f*cks sake! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L073tGdLETo).

I'm tired of this cr*p about using Ronaldo as a scape goat, the only disgrace was the way England played and they have to just swallow their pride and say that they were sh*te, end of. If Rooney can get over it why can't this pr*ck?

Anyway, good result yesterday, but Mickey still worries me, some of those backpasses yesterday were very suspect...

Forget about Gerrard and what he said. He's just trying to divert what Jose Mourinho threw at his team. The spat between Rooney and Ronaldo is dusted now and all is well at our camp. Its fantastic because Rooney himself said on MUTV that everything has been cleared and they are so looking forward to terrorise oppositions in the coming season.Everybody especially Mourinho knows that we are a better team this season. If you wanna compare man to man between ourselves and them scousers,we still have the better squad with the execptional of maybe Gerrard himself and Xabi Alonso. We are for sure going to give Chelsea a run for their money.

O'Shea dismisses United 'circus'

John O'Shea has laughed off "the circus" which has surrounded Manchester United team-mates Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo in recent weeks.

When Portugal winger Ronaldo played a part in helping England striker Rooney get sent off in a World Cup quarter-final, it sparked a raging debate the duo would never be able to play together again for United.

Nothing could be further from the truth as far as O'Shea is concerned as he insists there is a unified front at Old Trafford, as the club look to dethrone Chelsea as Premiership kings.

"There have been no problems between Wayne and Ronaldo," said O'Shea.

"It's actually been quite funny at times the circus that has gone on.

"Obviously, they weren't team-mates at the time, they were trying to do their best for their countries.

"But they're back now, they're team-mates again and they are looking forward to the season starting."

Far from Ronaldo being sold, as many expected - in particular with Real Madrid mentioned as a potential destination - O'Shea believes the 21-year-old will prove an asset this season.

The Irishman continued: "Look at the way he has come back into training, and with some of the goals he has scored already in pre-season.

"It's just been fantastic to see him back in action and I feel he is going to be a big player for us this season, a major threat.

"I know he has been vilified, but so have other players over the years. The club are used to dealing with it.

"He has had so much pressure on him anyway since he came to the club because of the price the club paid for him.

"But he showed at the World Cup what a talent he is, and he should have won the Young Player award."

O'Shea is concerned Rooney will become a target this season after his dismissal in the World Cup which was followed by a red card in the recent Amsterdam tournament.

O'Shea added: "It was a shocking decision.

"I couldn't believe it, and the television replays back that up a little bit. I guess it was just one of those things.

"But with his profile he is going to have to be wary because opposing teams and players are going to target him.

"But if you tell Wayne to change you are taking away half his game, and the club won't tell him to do that because he is one of the best players in the world."

The lad's just been called up to the Italian under-21 team. If an Italian journalist asks him 'do you want to play in Italy one day' then he can hardly say 'No'. Italian's pride themselves having a national team that all ply their trade back home in Italy, so if he were to say 'No', he wouldn't do his chances any good. Despite that, it sounds like they dug up some old quotations, and, if he becomes good enough during some point in his career, they can't ignore him, regardless if he plays for United or not.

Scholes deserved the red and the ban. His conduct is always violent. Rooney was unlucky that the FA are too pussy to rescind his red. Or maybe they too thought his arm in the face was violent. Whatever way you look at it, the rules are the rules and they apply to all of us. You need to get over this stupid idea that Man U are victimised. Chelsea have been hauled over the coals on more than one occasion, and in some cases unjustified IMO, but thats the way it goes so live with it.

For the record....Chelsea have been accused of tapping up a 10 year old by Bates. That is not the same as Chelsea HAVE tapped up a 10 year old. Think before you post or next time we will sue you for libel......... :funny:

By the way, the FA have not messed up the start of your season. Your own players did that for you.

Don't waste your breath, Pede.

The FA and everyone are against them, it's all one big conspiracy  :boohoo:

If the rules apply to everyone then why didn't Gerrard and Mellor receive the same ban a couple of years ago for receiving red cards in the same Amsterdam Tournament? (see shokz last post for confirmation) It's clear isn't it

Yeah, I agree, I think SAF has something up his sleeve, a formation change wouldn't be logical, but you never know, both players have their attributes, Senna has a great awareness and position, Owen has a lot of energy and can take great set-pieces, both players would strenghten our squad either way

England midfielder Owen Hargreaves says he is weighing up a lucrative offer for his services from Manchester United.

The Bayern Munich man is expected to team up with Frank Lampard at the heart of The Three Lions' midfield for the friendly against Greece on Wednesday, but has domestic concerns to consider as well.

He has only just signed a contract extension with the Bundesliga giants, but has always wanted to prove himself in England.

It has now emerged that Sir Alex Ferguson has made a concrete offer for the Canadian-born player and Hargreaves is mulling over whether to make a long-awaited move to The Premiership.

"The offer from Manchester United is fantastic," Hargreaves told Sport Bild.

"Particularly as an England international, it is of interest and you never know if such an opportunity will arise again.

"Now is the time to take the next step to develop even further."

With the transfer deadline at the end of the month fast approaching, Ferguson had been tipped to bring in Villarreal's Marcos Senna, but the deal is thought to have stalled on the £8 million asking price for the midfielder.

The Red Devils have therefore turned to Hargreaves to join injured £18.6 million man Michael Carrick at the club.

Munich meanwhile, insist that the 25-year-old will remain at the Allianz Arena for the remainder of his contract.

"I have just spoken with [general manager] Uli Hoeness and he is absolutely clear that selling Owen Hargreaves is not an issue," Bayern press officer Markus Horwick stated.

"I think what Mr Hoeness says is enough to end any speculation.

"Owen Hargreaves will be staying with us for the remaining four years on his contract."

Having lost Michael Ballack already this summer, the German champions seem prepared to dig their heels in to hang on to the key central midfielder and United may now have to concentrate their search for a midfielder further afield.

Bayern can't sell him at this time of the season.

1. There are no decent replacements available and if they let Owen go without buying a big name player our general manager's gonna get lynched.
2. Like I mentioned earlier, the RVN saga plays a big role here. Bayern would have accepted a Ruud + cash for Owen deal, Man United wanted the cash to go the other way.

Hopefully Bayern will decide that they shouldn't keep him at the club when he doesn't want to stay.
You know professional footballers these days. Raise his wages, give him a guaranteed starting spot and all of a sudden he's the happiest man on earth again.

He's just signed a new contract, maybe he should have thought about that earlier. It's the first time in his six-year spell at Bayern that he will be a starter and more than just a role player.

Bayern general manager Uli Hoeneß has quashed speculation that Owen Hargreaves could be leaving Bayern for the English Premiership, despite the 25-year-old's revelation that he is considering a "fantastic" offer from Manchester United.

"We're not interested. Owen has a contract until 2010 and he will see it out. The issue is closed," Hoeneß declared on Wednesday afternoon.

Rangers have taken Manchester United defender Phil Bardsley on loan until the end of the year.

The 21-year-old right-back joins Old Trafford team-mate Lee Martin, who made a similar switch to Ibrox last week.

Bardsley spent the end of last season on loan at Burnley and featured in United's pre-season friendlies against Celtic, Porto and Seville.

He made his United debut in December 2003 and has featured 17 times for the first team.

£13m Owen signs for Utd
By JOHN KAY

OWEN HARGREAVES will sign for Manchester United today.

The England midfielder is set to be unveiled at Old Trafford after agreeing a dream £13million move.

Hargreaves, 25, got his wish after revealing United manager Alex Ferguson had made him an offer he could not refuse.

And the Canadian-born star pleaded with his club to agree a deal and allow him to move to Old Trafford.

Hargreaves, who starred in last night’s 4-0 win over Greece, said: “The offer from Manchester United is fantastic.

“Particularly as an England player because you never know if such an opportunity will arise again.”

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich insisted they did not want to lose Hargreaves and initially demanded £17million while United only offered £12m.

But once the player signalled his intentions to leave, the two clubs thrashed out a compromise figure.

Hargreaves is the defensive midfielder Fergie has been searching for.

The United boss switched his attentions to the England star after his World Cup heroics when Hargreaves was the only one of Sven Goran Eriksson’s squad to emerge from the finals with any credit.

Hargreaves' agent said the Sun article is a load of bs.

And these quotes don't sound like he would go on strike or something.

"Obviously I'm still a Bayern Munich player," he told Sky Sports News after starring for England in the 4-0 win over Greece.

"There's a lot been said but what will happen in the future I don't really know myself.

"A lot has been said on the transfer front, some of it true, some of it not, and I'd rather leave it at that and see how things develop.

Someone should update this on the first page. :ewan:

Van der Sar is United No.1

Edwin van der Sar will officially be United's number one goalkeeper next season, after the Reds confirmed the team's squad numbers for the new Premiership season.

Van der Sar, previously No.19, takes the jersey occupied last term by Tim Howard, who will be spending the season on loan with Everton.

Italian teenage striker Giuseppe Rossi is expected to be a much more prominent figure following the departure of Ruud van Nistelrooy, who's No.10 shirt will be vacant this season. Rossi will wear the No.19 shirt.

Other additions or changes include Tomasz Kuszczak (29), David Jones (25) and Michael Carrick, who, of course, wears Roy Keane's old No.16 shirt number.
