View Full Version : Best veteran of WC ?
Da Kid 07-07-2006, 08:50:PM I was thinking of creating a poll of few +30 players 2 see which was the best on this world cup but then i realized the answer is very easy...ZIDANE...So question is:
What do you think who was the best "grandpa" (must be older than 30) in this wc? BESIDES ZIDANE!
:gavin:  :corn:
BayernFan01 07-07-2006, 08:55:PM Meesas
Da Kid 07-07-2006, 08:56:PM Imo Figo & Hislop played great! Niko Kovač
Drvar 07-07-2006, 08:58:PM Figo was also very good. And the rest of the French old guard, Thuram, Makelele, all did their job excellently.
Shortstraw 07-07-2006, 09:17:PM Del Piero did ok, but it has to be one of the remaining French players from '98.
Jedi Mind Trick 07-07-2006, 09:31:PM cannavaro.
Seggie8 07-07-2006, 09:37:PM Cannavaro isn't even 30 yet, he's got a ways to go.
Juventino 07-07-2006, 09:39:PM Cannavaro turns 33 in september, Seggie.
Jedi Mind Trick 07-07-2006, 09:46:PM Cannavaro isn't even 30 yet, he's got a ways to go.
you sure about that?
Seggie8 07-07-2006, 09:46:PM Damn..it was a try lol. :(
But ya, I'd say Lilian Thuram cuz he's impressive this WC.
smoove 07-07-2006, 11:48:PM thuram,figo,cannavaro,zidane...the obvious choices
shrekiejai 08-07-2006, 12:09:AM it'll be harder to find under 30 that performed well...
just look at the golden ball nomination..
jumbo 08-07-2006, 12:12:AM hopefully after the final, i'll add Del Piero to this list.
johan 08-07-2006, 01:39:AM Is Pirlo over 30 ? he played well.
gamerguy350 08-07-2006, 01:47:AM Nope he's 25-27, somewhere around there.

Wow how dare you blueballa, you left out Makelele. Oh and if it was 5 years ago, wouldn't you put Kahn in goal?
Jedi Mind Trick 08-07-2006, 06:53:AM How old is Crespo
31.
Da Kid 08-07-2006, 08:21:AM Cocu? i dont think he played that good! (:/)
JJSFC 08-07-2006, 09:05:AM Lehmann, Hislop, Cannavaro, Crespo, Thuram, Makelele...
Dan the monkey 08-07-2006, 09:22:AM Wow how dare you blueballa, you left out Makelele. Oh and if it was 5 years ago, wouldn't you put Kahn in goal?
Your missing the point, its the 30+ players who did well this World Cup, Kahn wasn't even playing.
Frostwolf 08-07-2006, 10:53:AM Still, Makelele has been immense in this cup also. Oh and, Cafu was ****e.
Guillaume 08-07-2006, 12:10:PM Makélélé
Damian2529 08-07-2006, 12:20:PM Cannavaro-Winner of the Golden Ball
zidane has had one really good game against brazil. An ok game against portugal. I say cannavaro. He's been good the whole time
Kimikal™ 08-07-2006, 12:30:PM FC Grandpas
Cannavaro - captain
Jannes 08-07-2006, 12:32:PM Cannavaro
dubcrazy 08-07-2006, 01:01:PM cannavaro was brillent and at last a defender is being wranked up with the best players in the competition
Krypton X 08-07-2006, 05:24:PM Most the ones mentioned so far + Oswaldo Sanchez + Paulo Wanchope + Tunisian goalkeeper + Deco + Alex (Japan) + Hakan Yakin.
TheBlueBalla 08-07-2006, 05:32:PM Deco is like 27
my bad on Maka. Of the 3-4 French games ive seen this season, the midfield has worked very effeciently, but Vieira and Zidane have been put up for players of the tournament, so I guess like people do in club play, I underrated Maka.
Who wouldve thought that a French midfield with an average age of 32 would get them all the way to the final? Lets hope they bring it home tomorrow
JJSFC 08-07-2006, 05:40:PM Most the ones mentioned so far + Oswaldo Sanchez + Paulo Wanchope + Tunisian goalkeeper + Deco + Alex (Japan) + Hakan Yakin.
That Tunisian GoalKeeper was absolutely awful. I didn't realise that Alex was over 30 :$ he's a class player.
SlayerDeuS 08-07-2006, 05:40:PM One who hasn't been mentioned is Ze Roberto, who was named to the All-star squad.
Krypton X 08-07-2006, 05:42:PM Deco is turning 29 next month, he'll be almost 33 when the next world cup rolls around, he's easily the best veteran player Portugal have atm.
Krypton X 08-07-2006, 05:46:PM That Tunisian GoalKeeper was absolutely awful. I didn't realise that Alex was over 30 :$ he's a class player.
He was bad in the first game (against the Saudis), but he's the one who kept Tunisia in the game with Spain until they scored late in the 2nd half, and he had a good game vs Ukraine.
MaSsiVe 08-07-2006, 06:13:PM Deco is turning 29 next month, he'll be almost 33 when the next world cup rolls around, he's easily the best veteran player Portugal have atm.
I don't consider a player who's yet to turn 29 a veteran.
Figo, Valente, Costinha, Pauleta, now those are veterans.
Krypton X 08-07-2006, 06:17:PM Well this could be his last WC, so i thought i'd mention him.
VanTheMan 08-07-2006, 06:27:PM cannavaro and then thuram.
newbie original 08-07-2006, 06:30:PM Lilian Thuram
K3nzo 09-07-2006, 10:47:PM Figo and Cannavaro!!
At the end Ziande spoiled it all!!!
