View Full Version : Klinsmann retires
denrze 11-07-2006, 09:58:PM :( :( :( :(
According to several big german newspapers Jürgen Klinsmann told German Football federation president that he won't sign a new contract.
According to sources, Klinsmann has different plans for his life, he does not want to be a long-time coach but live with his family in California and he's still pissed about all his critics who suddenly disappeared when Germany was successfull (Beckenbauer, Breitner, Meier, Hoeness).
Sad for german Football fans but he goes his own way and thinks long-term (Y) .
His successor wil likely be Joachim Löw, his assistant during the last years (actually more than an assistant, he made big part of the game tactics, but he does not have the charisma) who is expected to continue Klinsmann's philosohy. Buzt who knows, maybe German Federation begins to fight against each other again and a new coach will be installed like Christoph Daum, Sammer or Hitzfeld.
Lippi will most likely follow Klinsmann and retire in the next days, the two dominant coaches in this WC won't continue.
Zlatan 11-07-2006, 09:59:PM Understandable with all the critics he got.

who knows may be looking to coach the US squad hopefully..get ARENA OUT
Hendrik 11-07-2006, 10:09:PM Is it a coincidence that the two best German coaches, Hitzfeld and Daum, are currently without a job?
I'm not too worried, the German FA will hire a good coach who will have a great core of young players to work with.
Hitzfeld, Daum (Y)
Rehhagel (N)
Matthäus :| (N)
Sammer (:/)
Elber2k3 11-07-2006, 10:20:PM They should try to get Mainz's Jürgen Klopp and let him do the job together with Löw.

SlayerDeuS 11-07-2006, 10:23:PM retire means he stops coaching all together, you mean he is stepping down right? just making sure.......
Num Lock 11-07-2006, 10:29:PM Domenech should do the same for our NT, i hated his defensive tactics.
denrze 11-07-2006, 10:30:PM Well, you don't know. Most expect him to retire entirely from coaching. But maybe there's a small chance he's still coach, no one knows right now.

Hendrik 11-07-2006, 10:48:PM He will just go back to LA and enjoy his life. If he wanted to coach a team for the next couple of years he would have stayed.
BayernFan01 11-07-2006, 11:16:PM NO MANN NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. this cant be true. Vince is it true? :kader: :nape:
Daniel David 11-07-2006, 11:19:PM Hitzfeld, Daum (Y)

Vince, has anyone in Germany even mentioned Matthäus for the post? If so,

hum I don't know Vince, in the US he can join both being a coach and staying close to his family.
plus coaching a NT leaves you with some spare time to do things you like outside of football I guess, just ask Scolari which does d'ck when Portugal isn't playing.
LuckyStrike 11-07-2006, 11:39:PM Yes, coach the US team!
Live in SoCal where everyone is laid back and relaxed. Nobody knows who you are. Your "critics" are random people on message boards, not big media. Work close to your home. Low expectations (qualify for 2010 and beat Mexico). Decent team.
Sounds good to me ;)

I hope Daum gets the Job now. But i don´t want to see Sammer or Matthäus as the coah. :|
runner4life203 12-07-2006, 12:05:AM i hope he coaches the usa national team, we need arena out!! i'd be happy with him plus i think its only like a 45 minute drive to the teams training ground from his house
Jannes 12-07-2006, 12:14:AM he will NEVER coache a other team. :nape: :kader:
MaSsiVe 12-07-2006, 12:18:AM :|
his life has to go on dude, and hopefully so will yours so just get over it.
Jannes 12-07-2006, 12:20:AM lmao, i´m not angry or something. i just think he will never coaches a other NT.
MaSsiVe 12-07-2006, 12:22:AM I'm putting my money on him coaching the US :p
Bobby 12-07-2006, 12:45:AM Hopefully Arena keeps the job until Klinsmann is ready to take it. We can't have Gerald Ford near the dugout again.

The Mexican media have named Klinsmann a possible candidate for the Mexico job. Its fits perfectly actually...
Mexico plays pretty much all their games in the US (80% of those in California).
Mexico want a coach with experience of getting far in a WC.
They'll pay him at least $2.5 million a year.
He wont understand his critics. :D
Its a win-win for Klinsmann. (Y) (H)
m3th0d 12-07-2006, 01:22:AM I hope Klins will consider being the US coach but I doubt it'll happen. He wouldn't have the same level of determination and heart.
His house is like 5 miles from where I live, next to the pier.. which I just found out a couple days ago. Our local news station was doing a little bit on Germans in SoCal and they were talking about his business and stuff. Pretty cool...
Moratti1 12-07-2006, 02:07:AM what about Bierhoff (Spelling?)

That would kick ass. I doubt LaVolpe would be re-signed anyway.
Jannes 12-07-2006, 02:51:AM what about Bierhoff (Spelling?)
Nah, he is the team manager here.
Help? 12-07-2006, 03:03:AM I'll laugh like crazy at German FA if they appoint Lottar as their manager. Daum might not be a bad coach, also he did have that scandal a few years back. What surprises me is how a coach like Hitzfield has been unemployed for so long! I always rated him up there right behind Ferguson, and it's not like he doesn't have success to show for his knowledge
ManU2000 12-07-2006, 04:03:AM That would kick ass. I doubt LaVolpe would be re-signed anyway. Lavolpe's not coming back no matter what so we can forget about him. I'd certainly welcome Klinsmann but I doubt he'd sign on with us.
SB9Dragon 12-07-2006, 04:42:AM I sorta saw this coming. Great way to stick it too all those that doubted him.
I think Hitzfield should get the job. I'm also surprised he's been unemployed for so long too. Does dynasty mean anything to employers nowadayz? A proven coach, even though only on the club level. Lothar or Bierhoff are definately not the way to go.
Jannes 12-07-2006, 08:39:AM Löw is now the Coach. Hmmmmmm. He was the Co Trainer of Klinsi
VanTheMan 12-07-2006, 08:47:AM surprising. consiering he now had a fantastic german team who would be amongst the favs in euro 2008
mr.chris79 12-07-2006, 08:47:AM Löw is now the Coach. Hmmmmmm. He was the Co Trainer of Klinsi
What source does confirm Löw officially as the new NT Coach?
I was expecting this info earliest during the DfB press conference in about 40 minutes...
EDIT: Just read the article on the kicker.de site... so it's quite sure he will be his successor. Best choice for me... wonder who is going to be his assistant though.

i think this will be true
denrze 12-07-2006, 08:58:AM Well, it is a good move, as he is the closest thing to Klinsmann and will continue with their way, staff and philosophy.
Just wonder whether he'll be able to state his own opinion against all the critics in DFB and Bayern, and go his own way despite all the attacks he'll face as Klinsmann did it.
Hendrik 12-07-2006, 09:14:AM Klinsmann just gave a press conference:
- he's "burnt out" and won't do anything regarding football in the next half a year
- he's not interested in the US job
He got tears in his eyes. :(
They expect from Löw to see attractive football and to win the 2008 Euro.
What surprises me is how a coach like Hitzfield has been unemployed for so long! I always rated him up there right behind Ferguson, and it's not like he doesn't have success to show for his knowledge
It's not like he didn't get any offers, he simply doesn't want to take over a team.
mr.chris79 12-07-2006, 09:43:AM Just a quick excerpt from the ongoing DFB press conference:
Klinsmann just stated that he feels burned out after the WC which costed a lot of his power. He wants to go back to his family, back to normal life. He will now go on holiday for 6 months and not take over any new jobs.
His main wish is to extend the new culture of play. He thanked his team and the players for the wonderful time they had together and the German Football Association. He is obviously closed to tears and thanked again DFB head Mayer-Vorfelder who supported him even in diffcult situations.
He emphasized that he's glad that the DFB made the best solution in making Jogi Löw his successor and new coach of the NT. He's convinced that Jogi will make it...
He said that in the US he'll surely will be asked about the new, hospitable Germany... ;)
Siawash 12-07-2006, 03:15:PM You mean resigned.
Hendrik 12-07-2006, 03:42:PM We'll see, I can't see him coaching another team again.
Zlatan 12-07-2006, 04:08:PM That is resigning mate, retiring is that you will never come back again and I don't think that that is the case with Klinsmann.
Fernandez 12-07-2006, 04:40:PM I'd expect Klinsmann to coach another team before 2008.
JJSFC 12-07-2006, 04:44:PM I'd expect Klinsmann to coach another team before 2008.
Same.
Krypton X 12-07-2006, 06:12:PM Considering how animated Klinsmann usually gets on the sidelines its probably not surprising that he burnt himself out so quickly. I have to say I kinda expected him to leave the German NT but i was almost certain he'd take up the US job.
He's definately been a breath of fresh air to German football in general, but I think he could only benefit the national team to a certain extent afterwhich it would probably be best to hire a more experienced and technically more adept coach to take care of some of the areas Klinsmann hasn't been so strong in (such as defence).
Elevating Joachim Löw to coach wasn't such a bad move, I think he's had a big part to play in Klinsmann's success. But now he's going to have his hands full with the head position, especially with things like media commitments and the like. And he's going to be under a fair bit of pressure for a while with everyone scrutinising his every decision and comparing his performances to Klinsmann's. I think a better option would've been to get Christoph Daum as head coach and keep Löw as his assistant.
Nevertheless, I think over the coming few years German football is going to be in a much better shape than its been in quite some time. Just think how different things would've been if the German FA had succeeded in getting Otto Rehhagel with all his ultra-defensive BS .
