History
A.S. Roma was founded in July 1927. The city of Rome already had five teams in the Italian football league (Alba, Fortitudo, Pro Roma, Roman F.C. and Lazio), however the Fascist regime wanted to merge the latter into one which the working classes could identify with and strong enough to challenge the traditional northern teams to reinforce Rome's image as regime capital for propaganda purposes. Lazio management refused to even discuss the matter, but Alba, Pro Roma, Fortitudo and Roman agreed to merge and thus Roma was founded. Roma was named according to the city and with the typical red and yellow strips of Rome. Their first stadium was Motovelodromo Appio. The following grounds have been Testaccio, Stadio Flaminio and Stadio Olimpico (the latter was built in 1952).

AS Roma took part in their first national league in the 1929-30 season and won their first Scudetto in 1941-42. The second one was won in the 1982-83 season and the third in 2000-01. They were runners-up in 1930-31, 1935-36, 1980-81, 1983-84, 1985-86, 2001-02 and 2003-04. They were relegated only once, at the end of the 1950-51 season, returning to Serie A the next season.

1950s to 1970s
After returning to Serie A in 1952, Roma spent the remainder 1950s and early 1960s in the top half of Serie A. From 1963 to 1979 AS Roma endured a period of mediocrity with 3rd place in 1974-75 being the best they could manage, punctured by either mid-table mediocrity or flirtation with relegation. Notable players in this period include defender Giacomo Losi and midfielders Franco Cordova and Giancarlo De Sisti.

1970s and 1980s

Roberto Pruzzo was Roma's most effective striker in the 1980s.With talented players including Bruno Conti, Agostino Di Bartolomei, Roberto Pruzzo and Falcao, Roma would begin the 1980s in its best position to challenge for the title since 1942. After narrowly (and controversially) missing out in 1981 to Juventus FC, they broke through in 1983 amidst joyous celebrations in the capital. They reached the European Cup final the following year, only to lose to Liverpool on penalties.

They have more or less remained in the top half of Serie A ever since, occasionally mounting a serious challenge for the title, which they won again in 2001.

As of 2005-06, Roma have set the Serie A record for consecutive wins, beating (on February 26th) Lazio 2-0 in the Rome derby for their 11th consecutive win.

Ferrari back on track
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Matteo Ferrari has returned to Roma after a season spent on loan to Everton and has spoken of his desire to “redeem himself.”

The Algerian-born centre back had a disastrous 2004-2005 season with the Giallorossi in a campaign that saw the capital club narrowly avoid relegation.

But now he has returned determined to prove himself. "That season (2004-05) was an awful time for everyone. I don’t like to think about it,” said Ferrari. “It’s better to look forward."

"I want to regain the fans’ support and work as hard as I can to be seen an equal to (Christian) Chivu and (Philippe) Mexes.” he added.

After a season marred by injury at Everton, Ferrari has been told that he will have to accept a pay cut if he is to remain a Roma player.

Ferrari currently earns around £1.1 million per season and has a contract at the Stadio Olimpico until 2008.

Roma face FCU Politechnica Timisoara in the second game of their pre-season tour to Romania tomorrow.
------------------------------------------

i was always a big fan of matteo and i hope he returns to good form. but he definitely needs to take a paycut. he is 4th on the depth chart.

:D One of my best memories from CM03/04. How is he rated in reality?

Must be good if he played regular in youth team. Also he played well in Italy nation team U-19. Surely he can be one of the best Roma's player in future if we don't sell him earlier.

Honestly I had never been big fan of Matteo's talent but good to have him back. :)

my strongest line-up at the moment would be:

Doni
Panucci---Mexes---Chivu---Cufre
De Rossi---Perrotta
Taddei---Aquilani---Mancini
Totti

even though i really like curci, he is still #2. i expect cassetti to make a mark this season, as he has been wanting a big club, and now he has one. and i am very interested in this ricadro faty, cant wait to see him play and whats the deal with mido? i know hes back from his loan but will he be loaned out again or will he stay or get transfered. we need to find a real solution to our striker problem.

this will be temporary, until we make some much needed transfers. the system, i expect, will stay the same from last year with the midfield being a very important part with their mirauding runs. especially the wings with mancini and taddei. i would like to see the club sign another DM and CM. we are set with our wingers and defence

and yeah, i just realized that there is gonna be no roma derby :(

I know Montella isn't a young player but still classy. I hope Nonda will find his form from his better seasons and start scoring goals in every match :)

Spalletti Plans Shopping Spree
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Luciano Spalletti is preparing to strengthen his squad after the Calciopoli verdict handed Roma a place in next season’s Champions League.

“The market is open and anything can happen," said the Florence-born Coach. “Our squad is still incomplete and I’m sure that we’ll sign two or three players as well as some exchange deals.”

Roma are said to be tracking Mirko Vucinic, Vincenzo Iaquinta and Andrea Caracciolo as they look to find a strike partner for Francesco Totti.

Montenegrin hit man Vucinic is keen to leave Lecce, even though the Via Del Mare side may be spared relegation by the Calciopoli relegations, but a sizeable difference between Roma’s offer and Lecce’s valuation may prove a stumbling block.

Spalletti is also keen to bring Azzurri striker Iaquinta to the Stadio Olimpico. The Azzurri marksman was a key factor in Udinese’s 2004-2005 success – when Spalletti was in charge of the Zebrette.

It is thought that Iaquinta may be lured by the chance of Champions League football and the opportunity to work with the popular tactician again.

Caracciolo has already visited a Roma training session and looks set to complete a move from Palermo. The ex-Azzurrini struggled last season, only finding the net nine times, but is still regarded as a highly promising talent.

The Giallorossi’s Egyptian striker Mido is believed to be discussing a move to Blackburn, which may free some of the funds needed for a summer of transfer activity.

The new additions will face competition from 16-year-old Stefano Chuka Okaka who scored the goal that helped Roma beat FCU Politechnica Timisoara of Romania 1-0 in yesterday’s pre-season friendly
-----------------------------------------------------

Tommasi Reveals Roma Exit
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Damiano Tommasi has announced his separation from Roma after spending the last decade with the club.

The likeable midfielder has this evening left the outfit after his contract at the Stadio Olimpico came to an end.

“After 10 years in Rome and after 10 years with Roma, I’ve decided for a change,” the player wrote in a statement.

“It’s not easy for me to find the words necessary to express what this step signifies for me,” he continued.

“I’ve opted for a change to re-find that passion and my smile. My decision has nothing to do with any proposals, negotiations or offers.”

Tommasi insists that he is unclear of where he will be playing his football next season even if he has been linked with a return to former club Verona.

“I still don’t know what my professional future holds for me,” he stated. “My objective is to find a place which can give me a new spirit and the energy I need to kick a football.”

Tommasi, who is also of interest to foreign clubs, ends his Giallorossi stint with 14 goals in 263 League games.

The 32-year-old joined Roma in 1996 and was part of the 2000-01 Scudetto winning squad. His departure now only leaves Vincenzo Montella and Francesco Totti as title survivors in Rome.

Tommasi also hit the headlines last term when he signed a minimum wage contract with Roma, worth just over £1,000 a month, after missing a year of the game with knee ligament damage.
--------------------------------------------------

honestly, i dont want iaquinta. i'm just not a fan of his. vucinic or caracciolo would be nice. would like caracciolo because he is a great talent and is a beast in the air and would be a perfect target man. he also creates alot and gets alot of shots on goal. also the fact that he is italian.

and thank you damiano. you have been great over the years and you have nothing but our respect.

I would like to see those 3 player in our team in upcoming season. I really want see Iaquinta in Roma's shirt. He's a good player and we need him. Also I'm sure he will want to sign us because we'll play in CL. :)

Now I want to thank Damiano for those 10 seasons. He always played well and was loyal. Unfortunately he had injuries very often :nape:

Roma executive director Rosella Sensi admits she's disappointed Damiano Tommasi has chosen to move to Spain and sign for Levante.
"I'm disappointed with the choice taken by Damiano," said Sensi. "We had offered him to continue another year as a player and in the future to become a leader, but it looks as though he had other ideas.

"In any case, we wait for him always with open arms. If he had a rethink about playing for us or if he decided to become a director: Roma waits for him."

Udinese owner Gianpaolo Pozzo has ruled out moves for Sulley Muntari and Vincenzo Iaquinta.

Both players impressed at the World Cup finals with Ghana and Italy respectively.

Bolton and Portsmouth have been linked with Muntari with the player previously expressing an interest in playing in England.

Iaquinta's future has been the subject of intense debate for some time with several top Italian sides casting envious eyes towards him.

Pozzo is keen to keep hold of Udinese's top stars and has no plans to sell either Muntari or Iaquinta.

"I can exclude the possibility of a Muntari sale," said Pozzo.

"As for Iaquinta, there are no valid replacements for him in Italy and it will take a foreign player a year to settle."

One of our preference player probably will not sign contract with Roma. :nape:

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti responded with caution to suggestions his side will start this season as one of the favourites to claim the depleted Scudetto.

This summer's unprecedented Serie A match-fixing trial has seen Italian football shaken to its core, with last season's high-flyers Juventus and Milan handed severe penalties.

The Old Lady will start the forthcoming campaign in Serie B, while Milan are handicapped by a 15-point deduction and exclusion from the UEFA Champions League.

The likes of Roma and Internazionale appear best placed to capitalise on the huge upheaval which has also seen the Giallorossi's rivals for a European place last term, Fiorentina and city rivals Lazio, demoted.

"We are aware that we could have a big chance next season and we will do our best," said Spalletti.

"But Inter are ahead of us at the moment, while Palermo and Udinese are also good sides.

"It will be a challenge just to do as well as we did last season."

To that end, Spalletti is determined to bolster his squad further this summer, with the recruitment of striker Mirko Vucinic reported to be his number one objective.

"We will sign a forward," added Spalletti. "Vucinic? He has characteristics like Vincenzo Montella and we need a striker with Vincenzo Iaquinta's characteristics.

"But I do like the Serbia & Montenegro player."

Seems I'm talking to myself :nape:

Juventus may be forced into selling David Trezeguet to Roma.
New coach Didier Deschamps had been hoping to keep hold of Trezeguet or loan him out as a last resort.
However, he may have to rethink his plans with Roma reportedly preparing an audacious €20 million (£13.7 million) offer for the 28-year-old.

Would be great if he will sign for Roma because we need some classy players like Trezeguet.

This is Roma's best line up IMO :

Doni

Ferrari-Mexes-Chivu

De Rossi-Perotta

Trezeguet would be ideal. But for Serie A's sake, I hope you guys a class player from another league. Maybe Jan Klass Huntelaar. Someone along those lines.

Tosiek
22-07-2006, 01:59:PM
On present day impossible is get Huntelaar. Ajax will not let him go in next few seasons because he's one of the key players. Now I keep my fingers crossed for Trezeguet's transfer to us. :)

we just need a center forward and bad. trezeguet would have to top the list for me. his numbers speak for themselves. i also heard rumours of andrea carraciolo who has impressed me over the last 2 seasons.

seems like spalletti is comfortable with montella. although it is probably unlikely he will not be injured. we need depth at the forward position. something we didnt have last year.

Lens have confirmed they are in negotiations for the sale of World Cup finalist Alou Diarra, with Roma looking the likeliest to win his signature.

The 25-year-old midfielder has become club captain at the Stade Felix-Bollaert since moving from Liverpool in the summer of 2004.

Marseille had offered a swap deal with striker Peguy Luyindula for the player, but it now seems that Roma are in the driving seat.

Lens director of sport Francis Collado has confirmed the interest, but insists a deal remains some way off.

"There has been contact with clubs from abroad, but nothing has been decided yet," Collado told the club's website.

Diarra's agent has already revealed initial contact from Stadio Olimpico officials, who have offered him a five-year deal.

But without an agreement between Roma and the Ligue 1 outfit, Diarra will be going nowhere.

A fee of around €6 million (£4.1 million) should be enough to win them over, but Marseille could well renew their interests should the deal fail.

Not sure if we need another midfielder but rivalry can be useful in the team.

I think Roma is gonna rock this season. If they get a good striker and some good backups in the midfield, they could wel be in the running for the scudetto. CL place is a must. The team has shown great form in the second round last season and I expect that will continue on the same road this season.

Despite watching Serie A occasionally for some time I never really attached to a team in Italy; however I always had a soft spot for Roma. The brillant color combination, the rivalry with Lazio, that sort of underdog charm in contrast to the far-north rivals...In some ways the club represents a bit of what Serie A has missed these days. So I want to announce I'm joining forces with your legions from this point on. Next scudetto will be painted on Giallorossi :rockman: .

Roma move closer to Vucinic Friday 28 July, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roma are ready to offer £5.7m for the services of Lecce striker Mirko Vucinic, one of the many names on Coach Luciano Spalletti’s wish list for the new season.

The Calciopoli appeal verdicts awarded the Giallorossi with a place in the Champions League and relegated Lecce to Serie B, thus making the transfer a real possibility.

Lecce are demanding £8.5m, or £6.4m plus the part exchange of youngsters Aleandro Rosi and Stefano Okaka.

However, Roma are ready to offer cash, youth team players Andrea Giacomini and Fabrizio Grillo, plus Alessio Cerci.

The deal could be sealed by the end of next week, allowing Vucinic to join Roma in pre-season training as soon as possible.

The Roman club have also expressed an interest in strengthening the midfield with Stephen Appiah and Alou Diarra paired.

Former Juve ace Appiah is interested in the possibility of returning to Italy and his agent is having preliminary conversations with any interested parties.

“Roma are an important club and I’m sure Stephen could do well,” said Frank Trimboli. “We have received several offers after the World Cup and Roma have also asked for information.

“Fenerbahce are very happy with Stephen’s work and have not shown any interest in selling, but in football you never know.”

The Turkish outfit may have lost further interest in a transfer after Appiah’s performance on Thursday in the first leg of the second qualifying round of the Champions League.

The Ghanaian player scored the first goal in Fenerbahce’s easy 4-0 win against B36 Torshavn.

Diarra has also been the subject of much speculation and is being courted by Roma, as well as Turkish champions Galatasaray.

The 25-year-old French international is currently contracted to Lens and has confirmed that both clubs have contacted his agent.

“I am studying both alternatives, but I admit I would prefer Roma,” said the international to the Press.

“The negotiations are still ongoing and I know it may take some time as there was the World Cup and all the trouble in Italian football.”

Roma are expected to offer Diarra a five-year contract and Lens could let the World Cup finalist leave for £4.1m.
-----------------------------------

great news. diarra is definitely needed. losing both dacourt and tommasi left a huge void in the DM spot. he would fit in nicely.

If we will get those players we can rock whole Serie A :rockman:

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti has expressed his satisfaction with Mido following his return to the club.

Mido returned to the Italian capital after an 18-month loan spell at Tottenham.

The Egyptian was expected to make his move to Tottenham permanent, but the White Hart Lane decided against signing Mido.

Blackburn Rovers have been linked with Mido, but it appears they have shelved their interest in the player after signing Benni McCarthy from Porto.

Spalletti has been impressed by Mido in training and has hinted he could play a part in his plans for the new season.

"He's a motivated player," said Spalletti. "He must only settle down.

"We will try to give him a different preparation to allow him to enter the group.

"I've seen him playing few times and he's physically good and also he's good at heading."

Good to hear that Spalletti is satisfied with Mido's attitude on the trainings :)

Pizarro Agent Issues Roma Plea
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The time has arrived for Roma to make a bid for Inter midfielder David Pizarro, the Chilean’s agent has stated.

Pizarro has expressed his availability to move to Rome, especially after Inter signed Patrick Vieira from Juventus this week, and Fernando Hidalgo has urged the Giallorossi to take the first step.

“If Roma want Pizarro then they need to speak to Inter and make a bid for the player,” stated Hidalgo. “But this has not happened yet.”

The 27-year-old is unhappy with the limited amount of playing time he was handed last season and has threatened to quit the San Siro outfit.

Pizarro is valued at £7m, the same amount paid to Udinese for him in 2005, but Inter may also consider asking the Stadio Olimpico outfit for the services of Amantino Mancini too in a possible swap deal.

However, negotiations may prove to be problematic given the fact that Roma are now considered as Inter’s direct opponents for the Scudetto this term following the Calciopoli verdicts.

Furthermore, Inter boss Roberto Mancini has been testing several formations in pre-season, including a 3-5-2 system which may allow Pizarro to play more frequently than in the past.

Pizarro is understood to have been specifically requested by Giallorossi Coach Luciano Spalletti, who is eager to have the player at his disposal again following their time together in Udine.

The South American, who is contracted to Inter until 2009, arrived in Milan after five seasons with Udinese and played 24 Serie A matches with the 2006 Campioni d’Italia.

He's also been linked with a move to Palermo.

Ambitious Spalletti snubs Vucinic
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luciano Spalletti believes his Roma side will be Scudetto contenders in 2006-07, but insists he has no need for Lecce striker Mirko Vucinic.

The Giallorossi are being tipped as possible Serie A winners following the Calciopoli verdicts, but the Coach knows they will still face some stiff opposition.

“Roma and Inter have a good chance of succeeding, but I wouldn’t exclude Milan,” said Spalletti on Friday afternoon.

“Even if the Rossoneri will start with an eight-point deduction which is severe, I still consider them dangerous rivals, we must remain realistic,” added the 47-year-old tactician.

The capital club will undoubtedly need strengthening this summer to make a suitable challenge, but the linked Vucinic is seemingly no longer on his way to Rome.

“Vucinic’s transfer would not be useful for the team,” Spalletti surprisingly revealed. “It would be useless.

“I don’t see the sense in buying another striker. We already have Vincenzo Montella, Francesco Totti, Ahmed Mido, Stefano Okaka and Shabani Nonda, so another name would just be too much.”

The Tuscan boss instead believes the midfield needs to be strengthened and reiterated his desire for Inter midfielder David Pizarro – a playmaker he bossed at Udinese.

“Pizarro is an excellent player, an asset for the team he plays with, but we will need two or three new players to become more competitive,” he warned.

The Tuscan is also looking forward to the prospect of playing in the Champions League, even if he realises that his side have benefited from the expulsion of Juventus and Fiorentina.

“I feel sorry for Fiorentina,” he stated. “Coach Cesare Prandelli and his team earned a place in the Champions League on the pitch, but I am happy for us because we showed last term that we can play good football.”

Meanwhile, Roma will play Hamburg in a summer friendly on Friday in view of their official debut on August 26 in the Italian Super Cup Final against Inter.

David Pizarro's agent insists the Internazionale midfielder is not close to joining Serie A rivals Roma.

The Chile international has been linked with a switch to Stadio Olimpico, with reports suggesting a deal was near to completion.

But Pizarro's representative Fernando Hidalgo has dismissed rumours that a move to the Italian capital is imminent.

"There has never been any negotiation because Roma never made us offers," Hidalgo told Radio Radio.

"About his move, it has only been spoken about in the papers.

"Roma never asked me about Pizarro. I frequently meet Inter officials Marco Branca and Gabriele Oriale and there have never been negotiations about him."

Hidalgo, though, refused to rule out a transfer to Roma, should the Giallorossi make a bid for the midfielder.

He added: "I'd like Pizarro's move to Roma. There is a coach there - Spalletti - who knows him.

"I can push for a sale, but if there isn't a club that wants him..."

that is really disappointing about pizarro. but.....

Perrotta Set to Extend
--------------------------------------------------
Scudetto chasing Simone Perrotta has revealed he is on the verge of extending his Roma contract until 2010.

“I met with the club officials and we finalised an agreement that we had already discussed before the World Cup,” said the 29-year-old player.

“There was no problem from an economic point of view, so it was an easy discussion,” he continued.

The Italian World Cup winner has now returned to training with his teammates and is eager for the Azzurri enthusiasm of the summer to boost their campaign.

“I would really like to end the new season with a repeat of the World Cup party at the Circo Massimo to celebrate the title, but I know this will not be an easy task,” said the England-born midfielder.

“Inter and Milan have more players than us at their disposal and the season will be intense with Serie A and the Champions League.

“However, I believe that Roma will now make its move on the transfer market to strengthen their side.

“We need new signings to guarantee that everyone can rest, we cannot afford to leave key players at home because they have played too many matches.

“The Champions League does not allow for this kind of attitude.”

The Roman has also spoken to boss Luciano Spalletti about his role this term and urged the tactician to use him as an offensive midfielder rather than a defensive one.

Perrotta, signed from Chievo in 2004, has played a total of 65 Serie A matches with the Giallorossi and has netted eight goals to date.
--------------------------------------------------

and...

We need new faces, says Panucci
-----------------------------------------------------
Christian Panucci has warned Roma that they need to buy this summer in order to compete with Inter and Milan in the Scudetto chase.

The 33-year-old agrees with captain Francesco Totti and believes Roma must make a couple of high profile signings if they are to be title contenders in 2006-07.

“In my opinion Inter are in a better position than Roma, at least for the time being,” said Panucci in an interview with Sky Italia.

“I also think that Milan are now stronger than we are despite the fact that they will start with an eight-point deduction, which is severe,” added the former Real Madrid man.

Panucci is hoping that his Giallorossi side will fight until the end for the top positions in Serie A, but does not hide the fact that they are still missing a few men in key areas.

“As a player, I hope that the team will grow stronger and stronger and challenge for honours in the next campaign,” he added.

“The truth is that we are growing, but I do hope that the club will follow our Coach’s suggestions and will use the time left for summer transfers to find what we need.”

Panucci’s words come just a week after a similar statement from Totti who is thought to have angered chief Rosella Sensi with his requests for reinforcements.

“We need a few top level purchases,” the No 10 told the Corriere dello Sport newspaper.

“The team requires new faces as it’s going to be an intense season with the Serie A and the Champions League.”

Boss Luciano Spalletti is looking to strengthen his midfield options and has submitted a list of players he believes would do the job, including Inter’s David Pizarro and Alou Diarra of Lens.

Roma will make their official debut on August 26 in the Italian Super Cup Final against the 2006 Italian champions Inter.
-----------------------------------------------------

finally....

Roma ponder Cam swoop
-----------------------------------------------
Roma are considering a move for Juventus midfielder Mauro Camoranesi after negotiations for Chievo’s Franco Semioli stalled.

The World Cup winner has made no secret of his intention to leave the Bianconeri after their demotion to Serie B and Juventus may be forced into a sale.

However, the Turin giants expect something close to £7m for the Argentine-born Azzurri international after already snubbing a £4.2m offer from Lyon.

Nevertheless, Juve have been paired with Roma defender Samuel Kuffour and the Old Lady may include Camoranesi in any proposed deal.

The capital outfit plan on netting at least £1.4m for the Ghanaian international, who is currently contracted until 2008, and may agree to his transfer in part exchange for the winger.

Camoranesi would probably accept the move given that Roma will be playing in the Champions League this season and are considered as Scudetto contenders.

Camoranesi joined Juve in 2002, making 92 appearances for the Old Lady, and has also attracted interest from Villarreal, Bayern Munich, Valencia and Inter.

The capital giants are also being associated with Udinese attacker Antonio Di Natale on Wednesday afternoon.

The former Empoli attacker is a favourite of Roma boss Luciano Spalletti after their time together in Udine.
-----------------------------------------------

great news on perrotta. he has been immense. with camoranesi, he would fit but we already have enough wingers. we have other areas of need.

first totti, now panucci, the two leaders of this team come out and say we need a little more depth. maybe we should look into that. we really do need another CM, or DM. i hope we eventually pick up diarra or pizarro, although the latter is looking less likely.

I had read some Roma's transfer plans. As you know Spalletti said he need a midfielder so he's going to watch tomorrow's match between Betis and Levate and watch Joaquin. After the game he's gonna talk with management from Betis. They also talk about a return of Assuncao to Roma.

Maybe it's just a rumour but I want share this with you. Betis wants for Joaquin 25 mln euro. If we will have luck they reduce price but surely they will want one of the Roma players. :ewan:

Yeah, great news about Perrotta. We must hold the skeleton of the team if we're looking forward CL. Hopefully that first trophy which we are going to win in this season will be Italian Super Cup.

Egyptian star Mido claims Roma have received a couple of offers for his services, but are not looking to let him leave the Eternal City.

Mido returned to Rome this summer following an impressive loan spell at Tottenham and immediately caught the eye of a number of clubs - notably Blackburn.

Rovers have since signed Benni McCarthy, but Mido feels there are clubs still on his trail.

"I know that Roma have two or three offers for me," Mido told Sky Sports News. "It is good money and the club needs money at the moment to buy other players, but at the moment the manager and the board said I am not on the transfer list and that I cannot leave."

Mido was disappointed not to secure a permanent move to Spurs, but would gladly return if an offer came his way.

"I enjoyed my time at Tottenham, I made a lot of friends and if the day came for me to go back I would be very proud," the former Ajax man declared.

Friendly Report: Valencia 2-0 Roma

The Mestalla surrendered to a mesmerising display from David Silva, as Valencia ran out 2-0 winners over nine men Roma in a pre-season friendly. A first half goal from Silva gave Los Ches the lead, and a late strike from skipper David Albelda sealed their win.

Coach Quique Sanchez Flores had gone into the match with a view towards giving his first team regulars some more time on the pitch, as well as checking on the form of new arrivals.

The results, however, could not have been more pleasing, as Los Ches controlled and dominated Roma, only days after being beaten by minnows Austria Vienna in a Champions League qualifier.

If anything, the 2-0 scoreline could have been even worse for the Romans, but Luciano Spalletti's charges were saved by a brilliant display from stopper Doni, who kept pulling rabbits out of the hat.

However, the match was all about David Silva, just back from an impressive loan spell with Celta Vigo. He had the stadium applauding his every touch, before coming off to a standing ovation.

First Half

Valencia came out of the blocks better, and were immediately dangerous through David Villa and Fernando Morientes. Roma hit back with a couple of half-chances themselves, through Mancini and Mido, with Ludovic Butelle having to pluck one out of thin air to deny the Egyptian intiernational from firing the visitors into the lead.

By now, David Silva was combining with Vicente and David Villa as if they had been playing together for years, and it was the same combination that gave Valencia the lead in the 40th minute. Vicente provided a perfect pass, Villa steped over it neatly, and Silva came charging in to fire it past Doni.

Valencia were in command and Roma needed something special! But it got even worse for the Galliorosi, as Aleandro Rosi was sent off just before the break, for a late foul on Vicente as he broke clear.

Second Half

Flores brought on skipper Albelda for David Navarro after the break, with Marchena moving into the centre of the defense, while Vicente was also rested to give former Getafe winger Gavilan a chance. Meanwhile, Spalletti had to take off skipper Totti to reinforce the weakened midfield, with Perotta coming on as Roma switched to 4-4-1.

The balance of power had titled irreversibly in Valencia's favour. The numerical disadvantage proved too much for Roma to handle in the second half. While they managed to defend tight and keep the scorboard from ticking, there was no doubting who were running the show.

The mountain that lay ahead became insurmountable for the Galliorosi in the 68th minute, as Perotta was sent off after picking up two bookings in under 25 minutes on the pitch. Roma had their backs to the wall, and it was only a matter of time before Valencia scored again. The win was sealed with a precise header from skipper Albelda in the 85th minute.

The match quietened after that, and the post-match environment was surprisingly friendly, as Roma chose to be gracious in defeat despite having had two men sent off.

Valencia will know that if they can produce the same form in ten days' time against Austria Vienna, there will be little to stop them from booking a place in the group stages of the Champions League.

Roma, who are already into the group stages of the premier European competition, have plenty of work to do in the meantime. Spaletti's charges fought very bravely to limit the damage in the second half, but were a far cry from their best in the first as well.

Valencia CF:

Starting XI: Butelle - Curro Torres, David Navarro, Raul Albiol, Moretti - David Silva, Marchena, Edu, Vicente - Villa, Morientes.

Substitutes Used: Regueiro (Villa, 73'), Angulo (Morientes, 56'), Gavilan (Vicente, 46'), David Albelda (David Navarro, 46'), Jorge López, (Silva, 68'), Pallardó (Edu, 88'), Carra (Curro Torres, 86')

AS Roma:

Starting XI: Doni - Panucci, Cassetti, Chivu, Tonetto- De Rossi, Aquilani, Rosi, Mancini - Totti, Mido.

Substitutes Used: Osaka (Tonetto, 85'), Álvarez (Chivu, 59'), Ferrari (De Rossi, 59'), Faty (Aquilani, 59'), Fonda (Mido, 66'), Perrotta (Totti, 46').

Cannavaro urges Mexes, Chivu to join Real Madrid

New Real Madrid defender Fabio Cannavaro has urged Roma pair Cristian Chivu and Philippe Mexes to join him in Spain.
The two players have been heavily linked to the Spaniards this week, as it's claimed they are top of Capello's wish-list after the arrival of Cannavaro and his ex-Juventus teammate Emerson.

"I am a Real Madrid player and it is the Coach who decides these matters, but Mexes and Chivu are two excellent defenders. They proved their worth in Italy and would certainly do well in Madrid," he told AS.

Cannavaro added: "I am happy that, even if I arrived late to training because of the World Cup, I am still keeping up with my teammates. I think this is a good squad."

No longer accompanied by Gigi Buffon, Lilian Thuram and Gianluca Zambrotta - the defensive line-up that excelled at Juventus under Capello - Cannavaro urged Real Madrid to take on a new mentality.

"Sergio Ramos is a player who has all the right physical characteristics to do well, but he has a long way to go. Regardless of individuals, I have to be clear: the entire squad has to help out in defence."

Betis won't consider Roma offer for Joaquin

Real Betis president Pepe Leon has rejected an approach from Roma for winger Joaquin.

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti took in Betis' friendly against Levante on Friday as he considers Joaquin to boost his Champions League campaign.

However, Leon was adamant today over the winger's situation: "I have spoken with the player and things are clear. We do not like to talk about this subject because we prefer the player is focused only on Betis.

"We do not want to listen to offers nor to speak with anybody because at this point we are close to the beginning of the Liga and we cannot dismantle the team with so little time to find replacements."

Fiore: Impossible for ex-Lazio players to join Roma

Valencia midfielder Stefano Fiore has revealed it's still nigh on impossible for former Lazio players to join Roma.

Fiore confirmed he held talks with Roma coach Luciano Spalletti this summer, but admitted: "The fact that I have played for many years with Lazio has been the greatest obstacle in the negotiations.

"Luciano (Spalletti) said to me that they had made an attempt also for Fabio Liverani, but also in that case nothing happened for the same reason as me.

"Evidently, it is somewhat impossible for a former Lazio player to play for Roma."

So we can say "good bye" to Joaquin :ewan:

About Fiore, I don't think his transfer to us is possible. Roma is talking about lots of transfers but people responsible of transfers are doing nothing. When the hell, they will buy those players with which we are talking?! Mido is the only one who came to us (from loan). :jambo:

Roma chief Prade to close Diarra signing

Roma director general Daniele Prade is expected to jump on a plane tomorrow for France to close the signing of Lens midfielder Alou Diarra.
After receiving little encouragement from Inter Milan from a new approach for David Pizarro, Prade is set to finalise Diarra's transfer, which lacks only a handshake after the two clubs settled on a £3.5 million fee last week.

The France international's agent, Janos Toth, said: "There is a 70 per cent possibility that Diarra will play for Roma, we are ready.

"The two clubs must find an agreement."

Roma prepare new player contracts

Roma intend to finalise the new contracts of several of their first teamers immediately after the summer market closes in Italy next month.

Midfielder Simone Perrotta will see his agreement extended from 2008 to 2010, while Cristian Chivu will sign terms through to 2011 worth £1.4 million-a-year.

Brazilian winger Mancini, whose current deal expires in 2009, will enjoy a pay-rise on his present £800,000 salary, while Philippe Mexes will also be handed new terms, with is current contract having less than two years to run.

Roma are also keen to renegotiate defender Matteo Ferrari's deal. The Italian will be handed a new extension from 2008 to 2010, but will have to accept a cut on his £800,000-a-year wages.

Roma deadline for Pizarro deal

Roma executive director Rosella Sensi has given herself 72 hours to strike a deal for Inter Milan midfielder David Pizarro.
The Chile international is Roma coach Luciano Spalletti's No1 transfer target, but Inter's £10 million asking price is too rich for the capital club. Sensi hopes to talk Inter patron Massimo Moratti down to nearer £7 million.

If terms can't be agreed by Wednesday evening, Roma director general Daniele Prade will jump on a plane for France to close the £3.5 million signing of Lens midfielder Alou Diarra.

At last we are going to sign new players, and also hold the key players for the next seasons. :rockman:

Pizarro ready for Roma move Wednesday 16 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday may be David Pizarro’s last day at Inter, as his agent is scheduled to meet Roma officials to finalise his transfer.

The midfielder had been linked to the Giallorossi club in the past few weeks and expressed his availability to move, especially after Inter signed Patrick Vieira from demoted Juventus.

The player’s agent Fernando Hidalgo is returning to Italy and will meet Nerazzurri officials Marco Branca and Gabriele Oriali, as well as Roma sporting director Daniele Pradé, on Thursday to discuss the final details.

“Branca and Oriali called, the negotiation is underway and I think we will agree on a co-ownership,” said Hidalgo to network Radio Radio.

“There will be no other players involved in the deal. Inter wanted Amantino Mancini, but Roma consider him untransferable,” added Pizarro’s agent, denying the possibility of a swap deal.

“Pizarro was glad to stay at Inter, but is also keen on moving to Rome. We will discuss everything on Thursday and I think we will be able to close the deal,” concluded Hidalgo.

Inter will probably net in the region of around £4m, but no official numbers have been released yet.

The 27-year-old Chilean was unhappy with the limited amount of playing time he was handed last season with the Nerazzurri outfit.

Giallorossi Coach Luciano Spalletti specifically requested to have Pizarro in his side following their time together at Udinese in 2004-05.

Roma will now probably abandon the idea of signing Alou Diarra of Lens, despite the French international having expressed his availability for a capital switch in recent weeks.

At last some good news. Surely in the next few days he will sign a contract with Roma. :rockman:

i really have mixed feelings about this possible signing. sure he is talented, but he has been a waste for pretty much a year. i do have confidence that he would return to the player he was under spalletti but at what cost to roma. where would he fit in.

ideal starting line-up:

Mido
Totti
Mancini--------Taddei
Perrotta--De Rossi
Cufre--Chivu--Mexes--Panucci
Doni

i see him as a back-up to totti or he could play in the deep midfield role. if he does come, he is a player who is coming in and definitely expecting to start. he would need to prove himself in my eyes. the depth is definitely needed though. with our current set up, i kinda wanted diarra more. i hope i bite my tongue.

Roma's Spalletti: Real Madrid too late for Chivu

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti has played down talk of a new bid from Real Madrid for defender Cristian Chivu.

"No one has made an offer for Chivu and that is also true for Mexes, Amantino Mancini and Daniele De Rossi," he said.

"What would I do if we were to receive an offer now for one of these players? I would certainly consider it, but it honestly seems a bit late for this kind of operation.

"When you give up on such important players you need an immediate replacement of the same level and that is not something you can do in a hurry.

"After all, the summer transfer window closes in 10 days time."

Cruziero president: Roma talks for Edu Dracena

Cruzeiro president Alvimar de Oliveira Costa has revealed Roma are in contact over striker Edu Dracena.
The Brazilian, who carries an Italian passport, is rated at £5 million by Cruzeiro and Costa said: "We have had talks with Roma over Edu Dracena. We're now waiting for an answer from the Giallorossa club.

"There's also interest from CSKA Moscow, but the only serious contact we've had is from Roma.

"Edu Dracena could leave in the final days of August."

His transfer to us is pretty possible but if I could choose if would seek for someone else.

Roma agree Pizarro move – reports
Thursday 17 August, 2006
Reports are suggesting that Inter midfielder David Pizarro has finalised his co-ownership transfer to Roma.

The player’s agent Fernando Hidalgo met Inter officials Marco Branca and Gabriele Oriali in Milan on Thursday, along with Roma sporting director Daniele Pradé, and it seems that the deal was closed.

Inter should net £4m, but were not able to include Amantino Mancini in the agreement after Roma declared him as untransferable.

The move will please Giallorossi boss Luciano Spalletti, who has compared the 27-year-old to Zinedine Zidane and was anxious to have the Chilean in his side after they worked together at Udinese in 2004-05.

Roma are expected to release an official statement after 18:00 local time.

The capital city club is also planning to extend the contract of defender Philppe Mexes who is currently tied to the outfit until 2008.

Pradé is confident that the player will agree to remain with Roma until 2011, although an increase in his salary will need to be discussed.

“As soon as the summer transfer window closes, we will speak with Mexes and I don’t think it will be difficult to find an agreement,” he stated.

The Frenchman has been linked to a move to Real Madrid after he was eyed by Coach Fabio Capello.

Spalletti, however, has insisted that no firm offer had been made by the Spanish club and that the player would not leave the Stadio Olimpico.

Esposito wants Roma switch

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mauro Esposito would welcome a move to Roma and is flattered by the reports suggesting the Giallorossi club are interested in him.

The Cagliari forward, who returned to wear the Azzurri shirt in the friendly against Croatia on Wednesday, admits that the opportunity to play with the 2001 Italian Champions is tempting.

“I like it in Sardinia and I still have a two-year contract with Cagliari, but Roma’s interest in me makes me very proud, because they are a great team,” the 27-year-old told news agency GRT.

“If there were the opportunity to move to the capital I would speak with my club, but there is no reason to do so for the time being, as there has been no firm offer,” he added.

However, the former Udinese player does not know if President Massimo Cellino would allow him to leave the island outfit.

“Cellino has always said I was untransferable, so I don’t know if he would let me go, although he hasn’t said anything to me this year,” explained Esposito.

The striker, who was pleased about Roberto Donadoni’s call-up, is working hard to fit into Marco Giampaolo’s plans, as the new Rossoblu Coach plans to field a 4-4-2 formation.

“We are doing our best and we are working hard, our Coach knows our technical characteristics and will decide what is the best thing to do,” concluded Esposito.

The player landed in Cagliari in 2001 and burst into the Italy set-up by netting 16 Serie A goals in the 2004-05 campaign.

If Roma signs Pizarro, I think this would be a good lineup for the season

:::::::::::::: New Striker ::::::::::::::

:: Perrotta ::::::::::::::::: Mancini :::::::
:::::::::::::::::::::: De Rossi :::::::::::::
:::::::::::::::: Pizarro ::::::::::::::::::::
: Cufre :::: Chi :::::: Mex :::::: Panucci ::::
::::::::::::::: Not Doni :::::::::::::::::::::::

I've always rated Cassetti very highly, and i think he'll get playing time this season whether at LB, RB or RM. That lineup look familiar to anyone? the World Champs used it with pretty good sucess (Y)

indeed. perrotta played last year in a much more advanced attacking role and with great results. he played extremely well in the left mid role as well during the world cup. he deserves to play there, but i am pretty sure spalletti thinks of him as a CM.

i really like the line-up you wrote mikey. i really like the versatility of our midfield. especially since thats where alot of our attack comes from. i've never been doni's biggest fan, but he played well last year and deserves the first team gloves. hopefully in the near future, curci steps up (Y). for club and country.

and people have to stop hating on mido. i think he will do very well this year. i expect 10-15 goals from him. i watched him play alot last year at tottenham and he played extremely well as a target man. there will definitely not be a new striker coming in. end of story. spalletti seems very content with the injury prone bench we have. montella and nonda will probably be injured 8 games in, leaving mido and okaka as our only really strikers. but at the moment we have 5 forwards, so there is no need. a player like trez would be perfect but its not happening now. maybe come christmas.

Roma have been given until Friday to sign French midfielder Alou Diarra from Lens.

The Italians have already reached a €5 million (£3.4 million) agreement with the Ligue 1 outfit to sign the player on a four-year deal.

But the final negotiations have failed because the Stadio Olimpico side have prioritised their talks with Internazionale for David Pizarro.

The World Cup finalist's agent Janos Toth has now issued an ultimatum to the Serie A side and has given Roma one more day to decide the matter.

"We knew about the possibility of Pizarro, so we are not surprised," Toth told Corriere dello Sport.

"But we will wait for another 24 hours and then Diarra will consider the offers he has received."

Should the move fall through Marseille and Lyon are thought to be waiting in the wings to pounce.

If the Stade Gerland's star Mahamadou Diarra insists on leaving to join Real Madrid then Alou could well prove the ideal replacement.

Problems For Pizarro's Move To Roma

The player's wage is becoming an obstacle to his transfer from Inter.

What seemed like a smooth transfer deal has turned out to be a problematic one, as some difficulties have arisen for the transfer of David Pizarro from Inter to Roma.

According to the latest speculation, Roma have not met the player's wage demands and this might lead to the midfielder remaining at Inter.

If this transfer fails to go through, then Roma can focus their attention on another target: Alou Diarra of Lens.

Pizarro transfer on hold Friday 18 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Pizarro’s proposed move from Inter to Roma has reportedly stalled because of his wage demands.

What seemed a done deal on Thursday evening has been complicated after agent Fernando Hidalgo and Roma sporting director Daniele Pradé failed to agree economic terms.

Whispers circulating around the peninsula suggest that Roma offered Pizarro a four-year contract worth £1.1m per season.

However, the 27-year-old Chilean does not intend to lower his current Inter salary which is £1.4m per season – plus bonuses.

A new meeting is scheduled for Friday, with Pizarro in control of his destiny after Inter and Roma agreed a £4m co-ownership deal.

Meanwhile, Roma have been given a deadline by Alou Diarra of Lens – the other midfielder on Coach Luciano Spalletti’s wish-list.

Roma had already agreed a £3.4m fee with the French club to sign the player on a four-year deal, but negotiations have stalled because of the alleged imminent signing of Pizarro.

The French international’s agent Janos Toth has now given the Roman club until Friday to decide.

"We will wait another 24 hours and then Diarra will consider the offers he has received," said Toth to the Corriere dello Sport.

The World Cup finalist has also been eyed by Marseille and Lyon, who consider Diarra a possible alternative to his namesake Mahamadou Diarra should he join Real Madrid

Pizarro snubbed us, say Roma Friday 18 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inter midfielder David Pizarro will not complete his expected transfer to Roma, Giallorossi boss Luciano Spalletti confirmed on Friday.

The Chilean was all set to put pen to paper on a capital contract this week yet Spalletti brought an end to the saga during a Press conference at Trigoria.

“Pizarro is not coming to Roma,” he stated. “The player was not convinced of moving and has changed his mind.

“Our directors went to Milan last night to finalise everything,” he added. “We acted correctly at all times by contacting his club first and then his agent.

“But someone at Inter probably was able to convince him that he was still an important player for them.

“Roma did everything possible. We wanted Pizarro because we thought he could take us on to another level.

“However, I’m not going to go around and beg people to come here. Those who don’t know this environment have no idea of what they are missing.

“Without Pizarro, now we have to evaluate our situation and go for other targets. Who? We can’t say…”

Roma and Inter had agreed a £4m co-ownership deal on Thursday, with the Giallorossi offering Pizarro a four-year contract worth £1.1m per season.

However, reports suggested the 27-year-old Chilean did not intend to lower his current Inter salary which is £1.4m per season, plus bonuses.

Roma will now probably focus on targeting Alou Diarra of Lens who has been a confirmed objective for some time.

Roma had agreed a £3.4m fee with the French club to sign the World Cup finalist, but negotiations stalled in view of the proposed imminent signing of Pizarro.

Totti extends Azzurri career Friday 18 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Francesco Totti has reportedly confirmed he will return to the Azzurri squad after agreeing to delay his international retirement.

“I am ready to play for the Azzurri again. Let us meet and talk about it,” he is said to have told new Coach Roberto Donadoni this morning.

The Roma star had said he was “90 per cent sure” he would retire from the Italy side after the 2006 World Cup victory.

However, Donadoni tried to convince him that at the age of 30 he was still able to give a great deal to his country.

“I thought long and hard after the World Cup and I am ready to come back, but first I want to recover completely from the injury I suffered in February.”

His performances in Germany were hampered by a fractured ankle that had kept him out of action for three months.

Totti made his senior Italy debut in the 2-0 win over Switzerland on October 10, 1998 and has until now notched up 10 goals in 58 caps.

He is expected to feature in Donadoni’s first official tests, the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Lithuania on September 2 and France in Paris on September 5.

The Coach made his debut in a 2-0 home defeat to Croatia in Wednesday’s experimental friendly.

Today I've heared an interview with mister Spalletti, he said that Pizarro is not in Rom but not for money's troubles, Inter Milan's coach wished to take on the player and then he stays there.
He said also that Diarra is not his choice and the french player will be not in Rom, he said too that Kuffour and Nonda will be not in AS Roma's roster for the new season, the reason for Sami is "we have too many player in defence", Nonda has a little injury but he's not on the way to play the new season in yellow-red.
Now all has been resetted, Spalletti and the company AS Roma SPA are very very far and nobody knows the strategies to get new players, the money for it are only 10 millions Euro and with this amount it's sure impossible gettin' new players so the Roma stays with actually players.

Pizarro accepts Roma switch Saturday 19 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After talks hit an impasse yesterday, David Pizarro flew to Rome this morning to finalise details on a move to the Giallorossi.

The Inter midfielder had been on the verge of completing the transfer earlier this week, but it collapsed at the last hurdle when he “changed his mind.”

However, negotiations continued through the night and this morning the last piece of the puzzle seemingly fell into place.

The official Inter website confirmed Pizarro has flown back to Italy from Mallorca, where the team is preparing for tonight’s friendly match in the Trofeo Pirelli, to deal with his transfer status.

It’s reported the Chilean has agreed a four-year contract worth £1.3m per season and Roma will pay £4m for a co-ownership deal.

Pizarro is reunited with Coach Luciano Spalletti, who had him in his Udinese side from 2003 to 2005.

Meanwhile, Roma have also announced that they have loaned Raffaele Longo to Genoa and Gianluca Comotto to Torino. Youngster Daniele Galoppa moves to Ascoli with the option to buy at the end of the season.

Roma swoop for Esposito Sunday 20 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the arrival of David Pizarro, it’s rumoured that Roma will snap up Cagliari forward Mauro Esposito to mount a real Scudetto challenge.

Coach Luciano Spalletti warned that Pizarro’s transfer was “not enough” to put them on a par with Inter and Milan, so the Giallorossi have taken him to his word and are ready for another swoop.

Esposito is top of the tactician’s wish-list and the 27-year-old Italian international would suit Spalletti’s favoured 4-2-3-1 system.

Newspaper ‘Il Romanista’ claims that a deal could be struck within the next 24 hours, as de facto President Rosella Sensi called Cagliari patron Massimo Cellino direct to discuss terms.

It would not be a financially onerous move for the club, with a reported offer of £0.8m plus Ricardo Faty and teenage striker Stefano Okaka Chuka.

The stumbling block appears to be over the status of these two players, as Roma would like to hand them over on loan, whereas the Sardinians are holding out for a co-ownership scenario.

Seems Roma will do another move on transfers market. (C)

Samuel Kuffour is hoping to seal a move from Roma before the August transfer deadline, with Tottenham and Portsmouth mooted suitors.

Kuffour appears to have no future in the Italian capital after being omitted from the Giallorossi's pre-season reckoning.

And, with coach Luciano Spalletti publicly giving the green light to the player's transfer, the Ghanaian international is actively pursuing a switch.

"We are trying to find a new destination for Kuffour," said the former Bayern Munich star's agent Oscar Damiani.

Salvation for Kuffour may come in the form of Premiership duo Tottenham and Portsmouth.

Pompey have long been in the market for another central defender, in spite of the signing of Sol Campbell, while Spurs boss Martin Jol has also identified the area as requiring squad strengthening.

Roma to sell now, buy later Wednesday 23 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roma are in need of cash to finalise their summer signings with Samuel Kuffour, Ahmed Mido and Shabani Nonda possibly on their way out of the club.

The Giallorossi have eyed Mauro Esposito of Cagliari, Chievo’s Franco Semioli and Lecce striker Mirko Vucinic, but the outfit will be forced to sell first if they want to please Coach Luciano Spalletti.

Kuffour seems keen on leaving Roma and has been paired with Tottenham, Portsmouth, Bolton, Schalke 04, Hamburg and Juventus.

However, the central defender’s agent Oscar Damiani has been forced to admit that there are no concrete negotiations underway.

The main obstacle seems to be the Ghana defender’s current wage of £2.8m plus image rights, a sum that has put off many interested parties.

That may force Roma to sell a striker with one from Mido or Nonda being sacrificed before the window closes.

Reports suggest that the Egyptian forward could return to Tottenham after having played the last two seasons for Spurs on loan.

“When I returned to Roma this year I wasn’t sure I would have liked to stay, but I found a very different environment from the one I had left,” Mido stated in the past weeks.

“I would like to stay here, but I know there have been some offers and if the club deems it necessary to sell me, I would much enjoy returning to Tottenham.”

The Congo-born Nonda was wanted by Turkish side Fenerbahce at the end of July, but declined his interest in moving and has not received any further offer since then.

The Giallorossi are in need of cash to invest after finalising David Pizarro’s £4.7m move from Inter as he signed a four-year contract worth £1.2m per season.

****, I was pretty sure that Mido will stay with us and help with scoring goals. Honestly I don't care what will happen with Nonda and Sammi because I have never seen a place in starter 11 for them. But now loss of Mido would be really bad. He could be one of the most important players in upcoming season. Why we don't sell young guys which will not find a place in the team. Also young player can go on loan to other clubs and get experiences and improve themselves. Surely they will useful for Roma in near future. :read:

Snubbed Diarra joins Lyon Monday 21 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reports in France suggest that Alou Diarra of Lens will move to Lyon after a proposed move to Roma collapsed.

The French international is set to sign a four-year contract with the Ligue 1 champions, replacing his namesake Mahamadou Diarra who moved to Real Madrid, with Lens netting something around £5m.

The midfielder was one of the names on Roma Coach Luciano Spalletti’s wish-list and an agreement had been reached with the Italian club.

However, the negotiations then suddenly stalled because of the Giallorossi’s interest in David Pizarro.

The Chilean finally completed his move from Inter on Saturday after lengthy discussions leaving Diarra to consider his other options.

The World Cup finalist, who was also eyed by Marseille, had scored four goals in 66 League matches over the last two seasons for Lens.

Unfortunately it's officially (:/) Maybe we will seek for someone else in the midfield?! Damned Lyon :crazyboy:

“It isn’t easy leaving a team like Inter. Above all, if one has a family you have to think of them before yourself. Mancini told me he could make room for me in the squad but after I spoke to Roma’s management, I understood how much this team really wanted me to be here. Roma is an important club and this is a new challenge that I wanted for myself. We have to absolutely do well in both the Italian league and in CL because this is an important club.

At Inter, there wasn’t much room for me and I have the good fortune of having a chance with an important team like Roma. Pirlo has demonstrated the importance of that role in football today. At this time, Inter is part of the past and I have to think now of Roma. I have to enter into this squad with humility and with team spirit like I’ve seen with Roma in the past season.

As for Saturday, Inter are the favorites but the better team on the pitch that day will win. Mancini and Spalletti are different, they are two coaches that love to play football. Roberto prefers the 4-4-2 while Spalletti adapts his formation to the group.

I like that when I am spoken of, people mention Chile. There is even talk of a possible derby with Jimenz that is of great interest to my country. Spalletti calls me Peq, short for pequeno (means small person/tiny).

I have spoken mostly with Cufre who speaks Spanish and with De Rossi who is always joking around. There is a great changing/dressing room here and I am fitting in very well. I have already spoken with Totti through Materazzi and he is very nice. I want to respect my fellow teammates, therefore, I will not ask for the number 8 that belongs to Aquilani. Maybe I’ll take 17 because 1+7=8 and also because, after Tommasi, this is an important shirt/number.

Pizarro seems be a nice guy, hopefully he's also good on the pitch as everybody says. And I like that he does not attach importance to number on shirt in which he plays. (Y)

best draw we could have asked for. all of these teams are beatable. and once we get into season form, i am confident we will win.

atleast we didn't draw madrid in the 1st stage like we always seem to do.

just on the transfer front, i still think we will need another player, hopefully with CL experience, in the squad.

Pizarro eyes Super debut Friday 25 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Pizarro is hoping to be fit enough to make his Roma debut in Saturday’s Italian Super Cup Final against former club Inter.

The Chilean midfielder joined the Giallorossi last Saturday and is aiming to shrug off a minor injury ahead of tomorrow’s San Siro showdown.

“I am trying to recover, but in any case I believe this game should be played by those who deserved the Super Cup,” said Pizarro.

“It wasn’t easy to leave Inter, especially considering I have a family,” said the midfielder, who moved to the capital city club in a £4m co-ownership deal.

“The Nerazzurri are a stronger team, but Roma are also a good side and I am glad I have the opportunity of facing this new challenge.

“I didn’t have much chance of playing at Inter and when you realise that you need to make a choice, more than ever if you are 27-years-old.”

Pizarro seems to have left Inter behind him even if he doesn’t rule out the possibility of returning to the Giuseppe Meazza boys.

“In football you never know what can happen,” noted the South American. “We will see what the future holds.”

Pizarro has now been reunited with Coach Luciano Spalletti, who had him in his Udinese side from 2003 to 2005, when the Zebrette earned an historical qualification to the Champions League preliminary round.

Do you guys think he will start the match in starter 11? I'm just wondering how he will behave if he get this chance. He wants show Inter that they should keep him because his really valuable player, that's for sure.

Would be great if we start the season through winning this cup. Morale of team would raise, all players would feel that they are able to win Scudetto and fight in CL. (Y)

I think its a tricky CL-group. Valencia and Roma are slighty better, but I would not underestimate Olympiacos nor shaktar. Doing that, would be a big mistake. But I am sure, we can pass to the second round.

i dont think pizarro will start on saturday. he hasn't been with the team long enough and his fitness is questionable, although he did have regular training with inter. these are the games that players love to play though because they have lots to prove to their former team. i would like to see him come in 2nd half.

probable starting line-up:

Doni
Panucci---Mexes---Chivu---Cufre
De Rossi---Perrotta
Taddei---Totti---Mancini
Mido

who knows, montella could start instead of mido. but the rest is the line-up that is familiar from last year. especially since we are playing inter, best to have a line-up that has had lots of experience against them. and honestly, until pizarro finds his place, this is our best line-up.

this is also a great test for the upcoming season, being that inter are a direct rival for the scudetto and who knows in the CL. let's start the season off on the right foot.

yeah, spalletti used that alot last year to tremendous success when all of our strikers were injured. and to tell you the truth i am all about using this system again.

when pizarro is ready, which will be soon, he could play in that CAM place or even in the more withdrawn DM position and create from deep. but since, atm, we have all of our strikers healthy, totti will return to his normal position just playing off the striker.

Spalletti eyes Super upset Saturday 26 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inter are the favourites to retain the Italian Super Cup, but Roma Coach Luciano Spalletti is confident his men can beat the odds this evening.

“I saw my players in good shape this week. We’re about to take on one of the giants of our sport, but we fully intend to fight for this result. I think it’ll be an even match, because almost all the Italian sides are not fully fit at this stage of the season.”

The Nerazzurri lifted the trophy last year, beating Juventus 1-0 at the Stadio Delle Alpi with a Juan Sebastian Veron goal in extra time, and are set to field some of their big summer signings like Patrick Vieira, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Hernan Crespo.

“What we have to do is keep possession so we don’t allow Inter too many chances,” continued Spalletti.

“They have the opportunity to make themselves dangerous from a range of options. As far as I’m concerned, this trophy means a lot to me, probably more than I’ve let on to the players and the media.”

Roma have also made some important changes to their side, bringing in midfielder David Pizarro from Inter.

“Pizarro could play, but Francesco Totti is not 100 per cent fit, albeit improving both physically and psychologically. This’ll be one of the best seasons in his career.”

The Giallorossi have officially loaned winger Edgar Alvarez out to Messina and Spalletti warns that may not be the end of their departures.

“Aleandro Rosi and Stefano Okaka could go elsewhere to gain a bit of experience, but Roma must not lose their contracts, as they are important prospects for the future.”

Roma in loan talks for Lecce striker Vucinic

Roma are now discussing a loan agreement with Lecce for striker Mirko Vucinic.
The capital club would prefer to use the remainder of their transfer budget on Cagliari winger Mauro Esposito and Chievo Verona's Franco Semioli this week.

Lecce are open to the agreement, which would see Vucinic sign for Roma on a season-long loan for £1 million with the option to buy next June.

Roma look to strengthen Monday 28 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roma look set for a late dip into the transfer market after being outclassed by Inter in the Italian Super Cup.

The 4-3 loss to the Nerazzurri, after leading 3-0, highlighted the fact that the Giallorossi are not as competitive as their direct opponents, especially when it comes down to replacements.

Roma played an excellent first half and Alberto Aquilani impressed, but the capital club then showed their lack of physical preparation and Inter dominated the rest of the match, as Coach Luciano Spalletti himself admitted.

The Giallorossi outfit only have five days left before the summer transfer window closes and cannot waste any time.

Spalletti is reportedly keen on three attacking players – Mauro Esposito of Cagliari, Chievo hitman Amauri and Mirko Vucinic of Lecce.

The negotiation for Esposito seems complicated, although the deal seemed closed ten days ago, as the two clubs were not able to reach an agreement on the economic details.

Reports on Monday instead suggest that Roma have offered £2m for Vucinic, who has made no secret that he does not wish to stay with Lecce for next season’s Serie B struggle.

The Serbian striker could land in Roma on a loan, but the Giallorossi face competition from Torino.

Vucinic is cheaper than Amauri, who has also been linked to Palermo and has been courted by several Spanish clubs.

The Giallorossi may also be ready to make an offer for Argentine Carlos Tevez, stated the Brazilian website Estadao.com on Monday.

The 22-year-old striker is currently contracted to Corinthians, but has reiterated his desire to leave the Brazilian champions after he was insulted by the fans following the 2-0 defeat to Gremio.

The player’s agent Adrian Rouco is allegedly in Italy and is scheduled to meet the Roma officials to finalise the transfer.

Tevez joined Corinthians in 2005 for £10m after four years with Boca Juniors and was voted South American Player of the Year for the last three years.

The young striker led Argentina to the Olympic gold medal in 2004 and was one of the most impressive players in Jose Pekerman’s squad at the 2006 World Cup.

I don't think that^^

They are 2 different players, Vucinic would become world class striker if he only get chance to play in big club like Roma. Montella is already pretty old, Nonda surely go on loan to other club so we need a striker. Besides, Mido showed nothing in Super Cup match.

Tevez in Roma?! We need a lot of luck to sign him and cash of course. :read: (:/)

the supercoppa was a disgrace. great 1st half, in which we made inter look like a serie b side and then to come out in the second half and put that kind of performance is atrocious.

vieira's goal before half was a de-flater. sad part is it came off a foul which was won by a horrendous dive by zlatan. imo the ref embarassed himself by calling that. so really, it shouldnt have been a goal.

2nd half though inter deserved it. they owned us. although, early on when we went forward, we always looked to score. but then spalletti's subs were terrible. totti for mido was horrible. it makes no sense. when crespo came on, i become much more worried. then it happened.

also the figo free kick was pretty garbage. again coming off a pathetic dive by ibrahimovic. chivu didn't even come close to touching him. and not only did he get the call on the edge of the box, he got chivu a yellow. but doni played it terribly. there is no way a keeper at this level can set up his wall that poorly and then position himself poorly. i saw the goal coming a mile away.

we deserved to lose, but to lose in such a ****ty way is disheartening. but whatever, it is in the past now and we have to learn from this and become stronger from it. we have a long season with the CL and we can't play like that if we want to compete.

Mido set for England – agent
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roma striker Ahmed Mido is just hours away from moving back to the Premiership, his agent has confirmed.

The Egyptian striker returned to Italy at the end of last season, after an 18-month loan spell at Tottenham, who are now reportedly fighting with Newcastle for his services.

"Mido will return to England,” said Mino Raiola. “At the time being, there is an equal chance of him signing for Tottenham or Newcastle. We are waiting for the final details, but everything is set.”

The 23-year-old returned to Roma this summer and confirmed during the past few months his desire to stay in Italy, turning down an offer from Blackburn.

Reports suggest that Mido may prefer to return to Spurs, despite their initial decision to not sign him, with the club having already agreed a £3.5m fee with the Giallorossi.

The striker has also been called-up by his national team, scheduled to play their opening qualifier of the 2008 African Cup of Nations against Burundi on Saturday.

With only two days left before the summer transfer window closes, Roma are in need of cash to finalise their summer signings with Argentine Carlos Tevez the first name on their list.

The Brazilian website Estadao.com stated on Monday that the Giallorossi were ready to make an offer for the 22-year-old Corinthians striker, with his agent Adrian Rouco allegedly in Italy to finalise the transfer.

Additional reports in Brazil suggested that Roma may also bid for Real Madrid’s Ronaldo, offering Cristian Chivu or Philippe Mexes in exchange, although this seems to be more a fantasy football scenario.

Tottenham defender Lee Young-pyo could be set for a move to Roma, according to the player's agent.

Roma have held a long-term interest in Lee and tried to sign him last January.

The Giallorossi are in the market for a new defender and are hoping to lure Lee to the Italian capital.

Lee, who played at left back last season, has been moved to right back this term following the arrival of Benoit Assou-Ekotto.

Spurs could be willing to do a swap deal with Roma as they are reported to be back on the trail of Egyptian striker Mido.

Lee's South Korean agent Chin Sung-Won has said that a deal is close to being completed.

"Tottenham and AS Roma have agreed in principle to the transfer of Young-pyo Lee," Sung-Won told the Yonhap news agency.

"We are in talks with AS Roma on detailed contract terms.

"You can consider the deal as almost sealed, as the only remaining procedure is the player's decision."

Should Lee move on it could see Spurs make a renewed bid to sign long-term target Pascal Chimbonda.

Tottenham have confirmed they have agreed a deal to re-sign Mido from Roma.

The Egyptian international spent 18 months on loan at White Hart Lane before returning to Roma earlier this summer.

Blackburn Rovers expressed an interest in signing the former Ajax hit-man, but Mido rejected their overtures.

It seemed that Tottenham's interest in Mido had waned after the arrival of Dimitar Berbatov, but Spurs boss Martin Jol insists they were always keen to bring him back to the club.

"We've been tracking Mido since his loan ended and we were always keen to bring him back," Jol told the club's official website.

"Roma took some persuading and I'm delighted to have him in the squad.

"He knows I like him as a player, his strength in the air and his mentality. It's an excellent addition to the squad and our striking options are now complete."

Mido was delighted to be making the move back to North London, with the deal subject to the player gaining a work permit.

"I'm very happy to be back," said Mido. "It was and it always will be a great honour for me to play for Tottenham.

"I always knew in my heart I would be coming back.

"It is a fantastic move for me, I have some good friends here and it will be good to be back with the lads.

"I saw them training today and I'm looking forward to working with Martin and Chris again.

"I can't wait to pull on a Tottenham shirt, to play at the Lane and score some goals."

ok, this is rather disappointing. now what will happen with nonda? are we keeping him? same with kuffour. and what is with this korean guy. is he really needed? sure more depth is great, but i think we are pretty covered at the back.

what we are missing is that difference maker. we haven't signed one since antonio cassano and gabriel batistuta. all we have been adding are contributors, not the people who are going to help us win championships.

i say we go for tevez. tevez would be an absolute shocker of a signing and i would guarantee amazing things with him coming. he is very versatile. and a player of his skill and goal scoring ability combined with francesco would make an incredible striking duo. some would think along the lines of totti and cassano.

so i say, be rid of kuffour and nonda and bring in tevez and the korean guy.

Asked about David Trezeguet's potential move to Manchester United, Buffon added: "If Trezeguet has other offers, it is only right that he takes the option he favours.

"Both parties in negotiation must be as happy as possible. To limit players from moving can be damaging here."

welcome mirko.

on the cufre transfer. i'm rather shocked. a player who has been a staple as our left back for the last two years and is really coming into his prime, we sell for no apparent reason. he's an argentinian international, a player of real quality and we sell him for no reason.

and now the korean guy isn't coming, we are pretty much left with aleandro rosi. of course, chivu can play as an emergency left back, but then we have a gap in the center. this just hasn't worked out at all.

So the first game is ROMA - LIVORNO :wootman:

Doni
Panucci Mexes Ferrari Tonetto
Pizarro De Rossi
Taddei Perrotta Mancini
Totti

Vucinic needs some time to settle so I would keep him as a sub for the first few games or first match of the season. Pizarro should be fit to start after we spent so long getting him. Tonetto fills in as left-back unless we buy someone better before the transfer window closes tomorrow. :rockman:

Spalletti: It won’t be easy Thursday 31 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roma Coach Luciano Spalletti has warned his side against overconfidence after the Serie A fixtures were drawn up.

“I think the matches are very well assorted, although experience has taught me that there are no easy games,” said the tactician.

“Some people think that in the early stages of the tournament teams are still working to find their best condition, so it may be better to immediately play the major sides.

“In reality, I believe that matches can be considered easy or challenging only in theory and this is even more true in Roma’s case.

“A lot will depend on us. Matches that seem difficult can then become accessible once we are on the pitch and vice versa.”

Roma will meet Livorno in their seasonal debut on September 9 and are scheduled to play title holders Inter on September 20.

The Giallorossi are in the process of finalising their summer transfers and made official the arrival of striker Mirko Vucinic and defender Rodrigo Defendi on Wednesday.

Vucinic came in from Lecce in a £2.2m loan deal and said that playing for Roma is a dream come true.

“I will finally have the opportunity to play for a major club, I am very happy to be here,” the striker stated.

“Roma are an ambitious team who aim to win important trophies and have many wonderful supporters.

“I want to thank the club for wanting me and Lecce for letting me go,” added Vucinic. “I hope I will be able to prove my gratitude for this opportunity on the pitch.”

Defendi was also pleased following his Udinese switch after making only two appearances at the Stadio Friuli last term.

“I am very glad to be here,” he noted. “My first impressions are very positive and I hope I will be able to repay Roma for their trust.”

It sucks...

Chivu can play on the left easily. Ferrari, Defendi or someone else will go to the center. That's only my thoughts, Spaletti has more possibilities.

I'm glad we have signed Vucinic, at Roma his star can shine permanently and become one of the best striker in whole Serie A.

Don’t back Roma, says Totti Friday 1 September, 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Francesco Totti has issued the Roma fans with a stark warning ahead of the new campaign. “Don’t expect the Scudetto,” he said.

Although some are tipping the Giallorossi as possible League winners, the captain is convinced that both Milan sides are stronger than his beloved outfit.

“I don’t want to take anybody for a ride,” he stated on Friday. “Inter and Milan have more players than us. We can only work hard to reduce the gap between us and them.”

Nevertheless, Totti confirmed that he was satisfied with the clubs market moves following the captures of David Pizarro and Mirko Vucinic.

“I am not complaining about our summer signings,” he noted. “With the money the club had I can say they did a fairly good job, I am happy with the players Roma have bought.”

Totti has featured in Roma’s pre-season plans but concedes that the road to full recovery, after his ankle break in February, is still a long one.

“Until 10 days ago I couldn’t even kick the ball, but things are much better now,” he stated. “I also spoke to Coach Luciano Spalletti and confirmed that I would like to play upfront as a lone striker.”

Totti has been omitted from the Italian squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Lithuania and France, but says he will return after snubbing international retirement.

“I will come back next year and I told [boss Roberto] Donadoni that I need a break,” he stated.

“I have given so much to the Nazionale and I want to return only when I feel that I am in the right condition to do so.

“I will have time to think about my international future and decide what I really want to do, but this has nothing to do with the fact that Antonio Cassano is back in the squad.”

Spalletti keeps a low profile
----------------------------------------------------------------
Luciano Spalletti agrees with Francesco Totti that Roma fans cannot demand a Scudetto challenge this season.

“I don’t like people to be arrogant with me and Francesco was right to keep a low profile in his Press Conference,” stated the Coach.

“Inter and Milan are a step ahead, but there are also some strong sides like Palermo, Udinese, Fiorentina and Lazio. We have to fight hard this season and not assume we’re going to win just because Juventus are out of the picture.”

The Giallorossi were criticised by some fans and sections of the media for their transfer campaign, which saw David Pizarro, Mirko Vucinic and Gilberto Martinez Vidal represent the biggest signings.

“The club did very well. We managed to cut our salary bill and strengthened the side. I’m happy with the way things went. I also want to thank Leandro Cufrè for playing in a role that wasn’t really his own, but Christian Panucci, Max Tonetto and Martinez are more suited to it.”

Cufre is one of several players to have left the Olimpico, joining Monaco, while Shabani Nonda, Olivier Dacourt, Cesare Bovo, Ahmed Mido and Samuel Kuffour have also moved on. Further tactical changes are expected with the arrival of Vucinic, in particular with regards to Totti’s position.

“Totti is both a great striker and a Trequartista, so he’ll play in both roles depending on the situation,” explained Spalletti.

“Our tactical system will remain the same, even if in some ties we could consider a three-man defence, as we have the players now who can cover the entire flank.”

Roma lost the Italian Super Cup 4-3 to Inter in extra time and will have a stern test of their pre-season form when they face Juventus in Monday’s friendly.

“It’ll be a good match for those younger elements of the side and the members who haven’t played quite as much recently. We won’t have Panucci, Rodrigo Taddei, Totti, Vucinic or Martinez. Juve may be in Serie B, but their squad is worthy of the top flight.”

Montella we love you!!!

Montella goal sinks Juve Tuesday 5 September, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vincenzo Montella scored a late winner as 10-man Roma defeated Juventus 1-0 in a friendly on Monday night.

The two teams – who are just days away from their season debut in their respective Divisions – met in Pescara, the match being part of the agreement that had brought Emerson to Turin in 2004.

Juve Coach Didier Deschamps used the tie to field Raffaele Palladino for the first time since he picked up an injury last month.

Both sides had decent chances to score but it was Roma who broke the deadlock, despite being down to 10-men after Andrea Giacomini was dismissed for two yellows, through Montella.

Deschamps is now focusing on Saturday’s match against Rimini and says the team is ready to make a decent start.

“Tonight we played a good game and created several chances,” he said. “The two teams on the field were very young, but this is normal when so many players are away on international duty.

“We have the right spirit in view of a long season and we will do all we can to get back to Serie A as soon as possible. We want to do well from the start.”

Roma boss Luciano Spalletti is also praying that his side will impress, as they debut against Livorno on Saturday and will then play Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday.

“It won’t be easy, we need to start well,” said Spalletti. “I still have some days to assess everyone’s condition, I will then decide who to field in the next two matches.

“I am pleased that Montella scored, we know he is an important player for Roma and we are all doing our best to help him recover.”

It’s a dream, says Vucinic
---------------------------------------------------------------
Mirko Vucinic says he’s delighted with his summer move to Roma. “It’s a dream come true,” he stated.

The Montenegrin striker arrived in Rome from Lecce on a loan deal worth £2.2m and admits that joining the Giallorossi was always an ambition.

“I wanted to come at all costs, this is a dream come true,” said Vucinic in Rome on Thursday evening.

“The club proved that they believe in me. I received many offers, but I was enchanted by the atmosphere of the Stadio Olimpico,” added the 22-year-old.

“I was impressed by Coach Luciano Spalletti, he is an excellent tactician and I like the way he approaches his men.

“My former Coach Zdenek Zeman told me to stay in Lecce and score 20 goals, I will now try to put his precious advice in practice here at Roma.”

Vucinic insisted that he is ready to adapt to Spalletti’s tactics and says he is at the tactician’s total disposal.

“I am not a battering ram, but Roma play a fast game and I think I could adjust to this easily,” he noted. ”But all decisions will depend on the Coach.

“I am willing to play further back if Francesco Totti is confirmed as a lone striker, I have no problems playing as a Trequartista, I will do what Spalletti asks me to do.

“The Scudetto? I think Inter and Milan are favoured in the race for the title, but we all know that what counts is the pitch.

“However, this will be a very different championship without Juventus.”

Vucinic is recovering from a knee inflammation and therefore will not be part of the team who will debut against Livorno on Saturday at the Stadio Olimpico.

Roma coach Spalletti: No Cassano regrets

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti insists he doesn't regret seeing Antonio Cassano sold to Real Madrid last season.
"No, I do not regret it at all," said Spalletti. "But I admit it's difficult to take when you do not succeed in getting the best out of a player. It is clear that happened.
"But in order to produce the maximum, you also need the player to be available to you and Cassano, after five years, perhaps recognised his time at Roma was up."

Bad first half, Pizarro out of the match, but a wonderfull goal of Daniele De Rossi!
A really good 2nd half, 2-0, it's the first match, I think it can be all ok :)

I+ was so pissed when Totti missed that PK. He is my fav player and at the bar i was watching the game they were all rootting Livorno (All southern italians). when roma scored the second i cheered just to make them mad. :D

Good game overall, Mancini looking solid so far, Totti is not the one used to be. :(
really loved the new Roma fonts with the inner shadow. The jersey without sponsors is pure class, wounder i can get a decent one in eBay

Roma close in on Real Madrid fullback Cicinho

Roma are closing in on a deal for Real Madrid fullback Cicinho.
The former Roma director general, Franco Baldini, has spoken with the capital club about a loan deal for the Brazil international in January. Baldini is now part of Real's technical team.

Roma are keen, particularly with on-loan Brescia defender Gilberto Martinez struggling with injury problems.

would be a weird move. Martinez is a super WB.

but as far as Im concerned, a good move for Serie A in general. Italy's gotta attract the stars again.

Roma coach Spalletti confirms Pizarro fine

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti has confirmed David Pizarro will be fined for his strop after being substituted on Saturday night against Livorno.
"Pizarro must understand that in this group there is a set of rules," said Spalletti. "He broke one in the last game and this is not good for squad morale.

"He will therefore be fined by the club."

Pizarro is understood to have addressed the squad yesterday in Trigoria apologising for his actions.

If I remember well he received a yellow card.

Why there's no Vucinic even on the bench?

i believe he has a slight injury that he picked up in training. that is also the reason why he wasn't in the line-up on the weekend.
