Today Leo Beenhakker will tell us which players he will take on friendly match against Danmark (16 August). He saw only 3 games of polish Orange Ekstraklasa and I'm sure we can expect some surprises. :)

Bad news is that Sobolewski has injury, and we don't know whether he will play. Before the match we will play 4 sparrings, 2 per day.

Match is planned on 20.00 PM in Odense.

We have lost with Denmark 2:0 :nape: They scored really luckily goal and after first half we were losing 1:0. When the second half started, we were playing much better. Our team passes more precisely, created situations to score goals but we did not use them. Then we made only one mistake and lost another goal :(

Goals: Bendtner (33 min.), Rommedahl (63 min.).

Beenhakker backs Bełchatów pair

Łukasz Garguła and Radosław Matusiak are the debutants in Poland coach Leo Beenhakker's squad for the UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifiers against Finland on 2 September, and against Serbia four days later.

Bełchatów pairing
The GKS Bełchatów strikers have been rewarded after combining to score five goals in the Ekstraklasa leaders' opening four games of the season, all victories. Southampton FC forward Grzegorz Rasiak misses out but another England-based attacker Tomasz Frankowski, still to see action with Wolverhampton Wanderers FC this term, has been selected. Wisła Kraków have the largest presence in the squad while champions Legia Warszawa have been overlooked completely.

Poland squad
Goalkeepers: Jerzy Dudek (Liverpool FC), Wojciech Kowalewski (FC Spartak Moskva), Artur Boruc (Celtic FC).

Defenders: Michał Żewłakow (Olympiacos CFP), Mariusz Jop (FC Moskva), Jacek Bąk (Al Rayyan), Paweł Golański (Korona Kielce), Arkadiusz Głowacki (Wisła Kraków), Marcin Wasilewski (Lech Poznan).

Midfielders: Radosław Sobolewski (Wisła Kraków), Mariusz Lewandowski (FC Shakhtar Donetsk), Mirosław Szymkowiak (Trabzonspor), Arkadiusz Radomski (FK Austria Wien), Sebastian Mila (FK Austria Wien), Euzebiusz Smolarek (BV Borussia Dortmund), Jacek Krzynówek (VfL Wolfsburg), Jakub Błaszczykowski (Wisła Kraków), Łukasz Garguła (GKS Bełchatów).

Forwards: Tomasz Frankowski (Wolverhampton Wanderers FC), Maciej Żurawski (Celtic FC), Ireneusz Jeleń (AJ Auxerre), Radosław Matusiak (GKS Bełchatów).

What the hell he's doing?! How come he's calling Frankowski which did not score a goal since almost a year. Where is Rasiak which has got good form and scores goals for his club every time he's play?

Althought I see some positives like young, promising players called on matches against Finland and Serbia.

I've read Michael Delura wants to play for Poland. He's made some appearences in the German U20 but has no realistic chance to be called up to the U21 or even the senior team.

Sebastian Tyrala, Dortmund, follows the example of Trochowski, Brzenska, Sinkiewicz and Polanski and will play for the German youth team.

If everyone who's Polish or though in half would like to play for Poland we would have one of the strongest teams in the world. Unfortunately in past many players moved from Poland to the other countries. Also now players which are abroad prefer play for "strongest" teams.

Summing up, all who's Polish but doesn't play for Poland can go and **** themselves.

Frankfurt will be the Poles’ base
The training camp of the national team before the EC elimination match against Kazakhstan will last from Monday until Thursday. Leo Beenhakker’s players will get ready near Frankfurt am Main.

The match against Kazakhstan will be played on October 7th in Almaty. Four days later the Poles will play against Portugal in Chorzów - for this match they will also prepare in Frankfurt. Both matches will be practically the last chance for the Polish players, who after the two elimination matches they played so far have merely one point.
The training camp will begin on Monday in a town called Muehlheim-Lammerspiel located about 35 km from Frankfurt am Mein. The players from Polish clubs will fly out from Warsaw at around 10:30. The rest will come directly to the preparation base. On the same day at 17:00 they will participate in the first training session.

So far I haven’t heard about any player signaling he will be late, therefore all of the representatives should be at the first training session - Kazimierz Oleszek, the national team’s spokesperson, said.

On Tuesday and Wednesday the players will train twice - at 10:00 and 17:00. On Thursday a light workout is planned and then Leo Beenhakker’s players will take the 13:20 flight from Frankfurt to the capital of Kazakhstan. The representatives will arrive In Almaty practically after midnight, with the time difference being four hours.

A workout is planned at 11:00 (local time) on Friday. At 19:00 the Poles will carry out an official training session on the stadium in Almaty, where a day later they will play against Kazakhstan.

After the match the Polish players will get on a 3:20 flight to Frankfurt where they will further prepare for Wednesday’s match against Portugal in Chorzów. They are expected in Germany at 6:00.

EC 2008 Qualifications: Poland - Portugal 2:1
Euzebiusz Smolarek scored both of Poland's goals as they defeated Portugal 2-1 in Chorzow to leapfrog their opponents into fourth place in UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying Group A.

The hosts fully deserved a victory which they earned thanks to a blistering start from Smolarek, the BV Borussia Dortmund forward striking twice inside the opening 18 minutes. A Nuno Gomes goal in added time was not enough to prevent Portugal's first defeat in their bid to qualify for the tournament in Austria and Switzerland and they now lie six points behind the leaders Serbia in fifth place, albeit with a game in hand.
Poland coach Leo Beenhakker named the same starting XI which beat Kazakhstan at the weekend, while Luiz Felipe Scolari only made one change to the Portugal team that confidently brushed aside Azerbaijan, Maniche dropping to the bench in favour of Petit. But it was the hosts who came out of the blocks faster, dominating the opening exchanges and enjoying the majority of the possession.

So it was no surprise when they broke the deadlock after only nine minutes. Smolarek picked up the ball on the edge of the penalty area and calmly placed his effort past the diving Ricardo and into the back of the net. The goal seemed to stun the visitors, but worse was to come nine minutes later as Poland doubled their advantage - Smolarek dispatching his second following a perfect cross from the lively Grzegorz Rasiak.

Portugal pushed in search of a reponse before the break, only for their efforts to end in frustration as Poland stood firm defensively. The home side looked the more likely scorers after the restart and Smolarek was unlucky not to claim a hat-trick after Ricardo turned his shot wide. Portugal's possession increased as time ticked by, but Nuno Gomes's conversion of Simăo's centre was no consolation.

Leo Beenhakker announced the squad

Leo Beenhakker, coach of the Polish national team, announced the squad for the training camp that is to take place from December 1st to December 7th in the United Arab Emirates. On the 6th of December, the Polish national team will play a friendly match in Abu Dhabi against the team from the United Arab Emirates.

The players who will travel to the training camp in UAE will gather in Warsaw on the 1st of December after the League Cup matches. The next day before noon they will fly out to Abu Dhabi. The squad for the match against the Emirates consists mainly of young players born in the 1980s - Leo Beenhakker said. - I want them to get to feel what the atmosphere in the national team is like. I intentionally allowed for some of the players from Wisła Kraków to rest, as they have UEFA Cup matches ahead of them and have to prepare for those matches.
The Polish national team for the training camp in the UAE:

Goalkeepers: Łukasz Fabianski (Legia Warszawa), Mariusz Pawelek (Wisla Krakow), Maciej Mielcarz (Korona Kielce).

Defenders: Grzegorz Bronowicki (Legia Warszawa), Paweł Golanski (Korona Kielce), Dariusz Dudka (Wisla Krakow), Adam Kokoszka (Wisla Krakow), Grzegorz Fonfara (GKS BOT Belchatow), Paweł Magdoń (Wisla Płock), Krzysztof Lagiewka (Krylya Sovietov Samara).

Midfielders: Sebastian Szalachowski (Legia Warszawa), Lukasz Garguła (GKS BOT Bełchatów), Piotr Giza (Cracovia), Robert Kolendowicz (LKS Łodz), Maciej Iwański (Zagłębie Lubin), Wojciech Lobodzinski (Zagłebie Lubin), Adrian Budka (Widzew Lodz), Jakub Wawrzyniak (Widzew Łodz), Rafał Murawski (Lech Poznan).

Forwards: Radosław Matusiak (GKS BOT Bełchatow), Bartłomiej Grzelak (Widzew Lodz), Przemysław Pitry (Lech Poznan).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Beenhakker has his own conception on our team, and it's really promising. He took on Emirates players only from Polish league, but the most important thing is that most of called players are young. He's not afraid of giving chance them. He has shown this bringing to the team Błaszczykowski, Golański, Matusiak etc. WE have a lot of football diamonds and our coach knows how to find them out. :rockman:

Euzebiusz Smolarek was chosen as the Player of the Year 2006 in a plebiscite carried out by the weekly magazine “Piłka Nożna”. The winger from Borussia Dortmund and the Polish national team has been presented with this award for the second year in a row. It’s the third such case in history - previously only Kazimierz Deyna and Jacek Krzynówek won this award two years in a row.

Euzebiusz Smolarek couldn’t accept the award in person because his team fill face Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday in the Bundesliga. His father, Włodzimierz Smolarek, collected the award in his name. Awards for the team, player - Zbigniew Boniek and coach - Kazimierz Górski were also given out as part of the 50th anniversary of “Piłka Nożna”.
Radosław Matusiak was chosen as the Revelation of the Year. Orest Lenczyk became Coach of the Year (both from GKS BOT Bełchatów). Piotr Reiss (Lech Poznań) was declared the best League Player, and Leo Beenhakker, coach of the polish national team, was given the award for Foreigner of the Year.

The fans of Lech Poznań became the laureates of the 4th edition of the Orange Fair Play plebiscite. The association “Wiara Lecha” accepted the award in the sum of 10 thousand złoty in their name.

The list of prizewinners:

Player of the Year 2006: Euzebiusz Smolarek (Borussia Dortmund)

Coach of the Year 2006: Orest Lenczyk (GKS BOT Bełchatów)

League Player of the Year 2006: Piotr Reiss (Lech Poznań )

Revelation of the Year 2006: Radosław Matusiak (GKS BOT Bełchatów)

Foreigner of the Year 2006: Leo Beenhakker - coach of the Polish national team

Orange Fair Play: Lech Poznań

I know it's a bit late but here they are, the results of Piłka Nożna plebiscite.

He's really good if he scores 8 goals in such club like Odra. He can win the game alone, don't need lots of chances to score a goal. He's skillful, fast and knows where to draw up.

Name: Marcin
Surname: Chmiest
Country: Polska
Born:12 Feb 1979
City of born: Kraków
Height: 184 cm/ Weight: 84 kg
Current club: SC Braga

Exactly, now he can play on highest level than he played at Odra, through playing for Braga. Surely he will promote himself there and sign a contract with more famed team like Sporting or he'll go to the other European league.

Good luck for him.

It is a shame.. I remember at the end of last season when people started talking about who to buy for the following season, Saga's name was mentioned a lot as a possible reinforcment for one of the big 3 clubs. A lot of people agree that he was a good player that they let get away..

Even for one of the better clubs in Portugal that usually play UEFA cup like Braga or Boavista, he would have been a good signing. Oh well...

In my opinion Marcin Chmiest is too poor for Braga. In 2005/2006 season he was in Legia. He couldn't score any goal. When he signed to Odra, one of the weakest club in Polish 1st division he started to score many goals.

::shinji::
31-01-2007, 05:28:PM
well, we'll have to wait and see... Braga has a very good midfield, so if Chmiest is a good finisher he might score some goals with decent service from the mids. Braga had Joao Tomas as their main striker, and before he left for some Arab club he was one of the top scorers in Portugal. He wasn't a great overall player, but was a good "area" man who could convert chances given to him. That's probably the role that Braga is trying to fill with Chmiest..

Poles excel against Estonia
Poland enjoyed a morale-boosting 4-0 victory against Estonia ahead of the resumption of their UEFA EURO 2008™ campaign next month in the first of two friendlies played in the Spanish town of Jerez de la Frontera.

Defenders on mark
Coach Leo Beenhakker selected a team entirely based in the Polish Ekstraklasa for the match and those given the chance to impress took the opportunity with both hands as Poland went 2-0 ahead in the first half. It was defensive duo Dariusz Dudka and Adam Kokoszka who put last summer's FIFA World Cup finalists on their way, finding the net in the 25th and 32nd minutes.

First goals
The Poles, who currently sit third in UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying group A, had to wait until the 70th minute to extend their lead further as Zagłębie Lubin midfielder Maciej Iwański scored within nine minutes of coming on as a substitute. The victory was then rounded off six minutes later as Paweł Golański completed a sequence of all four players scoring their first international goals before Estonia's misery was completed with Teet Allas dismissed in the closing minutes. Poland stay in Spain to face Slovakia on Wednesday while Jelle Goes' Estonia meet Slovenia in Domzale on the same night.

Mecze te obfitowały w emocje i gole. W pamięci kibiców zapadła z pewnością w szczególności rywalizacja w eliminacjach ME`96.

Poland 2:2 Slovakia

We lost first goal in 34 second of the match and second in the last minute of first half. We played totally ****, that was the most crap football we ever played. Good for us that Beenhakker did some changes and bring Matusiak and some other players from Polish league.

At the beginning of second part we scored goal from a penalty and started dominating the whole game. 12 minutes before the end Matusiak scored a nice goal with a little help of Slovak keeper. We could won this but unfortunately Kaźmierczak missed from 6 metres on empty goal.

Polsko-ukraińska delegacja odwiedziła stadion Lecha Poznań

W środę na stadionie pierwszoligowego Lecha Poznań gościła polsko-ukraińska delegacja, uczestnicząca w seminarium dotyczącym przygotowań do organizacji piłkarskich Mistrzostw Europy w 2012 roku.

Wszystko wskazuje na to, iż jeśli polsko-ukraińska kandydatura zwycięży w wyścigu o prawo do organizacji Euro 2012, to stadion Lecha Poznań będzie jedną z aren owego turnieju.

Decyzja o przyznaniu prawa organizatora Euro 2012 zostanie ogłoszona 18 kwietnia bieżącego roku w walijskim Cardiff.

Przed "biało-czerwonymi" dwa spotkania o punkty w eliminacjach mistrzostw Europy. Azerbejdżan i Armenia to najsłabsi rywale w grupie i teoretycznie mało wymagający.

My musimy skoncentrować się nad teraźniejszością".

Selekcjoner podkreślił, że najbardziej cieszy go stały postęp postawy kadrowiczów. Wielu nowych zawodników puka do drzwi kadry.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

He's a professional in every meaning of this word. I love he's way of showing players how to reach a success. There's no dead certs in his team, he lets players fight for the place in the starter 11. And the most important thing, he brings fresh blood every time he calls players. (H)

PM to head Polish team

Poland's prime minister Jarosław Kaczyński is to head the national committee responsible for the organisation of UEFA EURO 2012™ in the country. Poland and Ukraine were named by UEFA as co-hosts for the 2012 final round earlier this month.

PZPN representatives
Two senior representatives of the Polish Football Association (PZPN) will also serve on the committee - association president Michał Listkiewicz and Adam Olkowicz, who headed Poland's 2012 bid in conjunction with their Ukrainian neighbours. "This is the best solution," said Listkiewicz. "The people in charge of the country will be dealing with issues such as stadiums and roads."

Maximum infrastructures
Poland's government is currently studying potential legal changes that will help the country provide the best infrastructure possible for the tournament "We will enlist the experience of the companies that gave advice during major sports events like the European Championships in Portugal [in 2004] as well as in Austria/Switzerland [in 2008], and also the [2006 FIFA] World Cup in Germany," said Polish sports minister Tomasz Lipiec.

It's the best choice which could be picked up, actually.

Radomski ruled out until autumn

FK Austria Wien will be without Arek Radomski for at least six months after a scan revealed the Polish international midfielder tore the cruciate ligament in his right knee during Tuesday night's Austrian Cup final.

Knee problems
The 29-year-old, who has won 29 caps for his country, had to be replaced at half-time in the 2-1 win against SV Mattersburg that secured Austria's third successive cup final victory. Tests today showed the full extent of the injury, which could keep Radomski sidelined until the autumn. The player, who is in his second season in the Austrian Bundesliga after eight years with Eredivisie side SC Heerenveen, has featured in just 15 league matches this term having torn the outer ligament in the same joint in October.

Beenhakker takes Feyenoord reins

Poland coach Leo Beenhakker will take charge of Feyenoord on a short-term basis in the Dutch Eredivisie's play-offs for a UEFA Cup spot following Erwin Koeman's resignation on Thursday.

Third spell
The 64-year-old Beenhakker returns for a third spell at the Rotterdam club after previous stints as youth coach and first team coach, guiding them to their last league title success in 1999. After leaving Feyenoord a year later he went on to become technical director at arch-rivals AFC Ajax, also leading Trinidad and Tobago to the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals before taking the role with Poland following the tournament in Germany.

'Duty call'
"This is a 'duty call' I can't deny," said Beenhakker. "I will do everything to ensure the club play in Europe next season." Feyenoord finished the regular season seventh in the Eredivisie standings and will now compete with FC Groningen, Roda JC and FC Utrecht for a place in Europe via a play-off system. Beenhakker's first game in charge will be the visit to Groningen on Thursday.

How is Slusarski thought of back in Poland, he seems to be a quality forward for Leiria in Portugal (even scored a goal today). Has he ever been to the Polish NT?

there's a strong rumour that Kazmierczak may be bought by Braga at the end of the season. Bad move for Boavista but good for Kaz as he'd be playing in the UEFA cup with Braga next season.

I hear about this rumour first time, but Pogoń Szczecin wants him back because Boavista doesn't pay money for loan.

But I would be happy if Pogoń let him go to Braga for example.:)

The national team for matches against Azerbaijan and Armenia

Leo Beenhakker, coach of the Polish national team, announced the squad for the upcoming EC 2008 eliminations against Azerbaijan (Baku, June 2nd) and Armenia (Erewan, June 6th).

24 players have been nominated. A reserve list, consisting of eight names, has also been made. Coach Beenhakker regrets that Sebastian Szałachowski, Radosław Sobolewski, and Arkadiusz Radomski have been prevented by injuries from joining the team.

Polish national team for the matches against Azerbaijan and Armenia:

Goalkeepers:
Artur Boruc (Celtic Glasgow)
Wojciech Kowalewski (Spartak Moscow)
Łukasz Fabiański (Legia Warszawa)

Defenders:
Michał Żewłakow (Olympiakos Pireus)
Jacek Bąk (Al-Ryyan )
Dariusz Dudka (Wisła Kraków)
Marcin Wasilewski (Anderlecht Brussels )
Grzegorz Bronowicki (Legia Warszawa)
Paweł Golański (Kolporter Korona Kielce)
Jakub Wawrzyniak (Widzew Łódź)
Arkadiusz Głowacki (Wisła Kraków)

Midfielders:
Mariusz Lewandowski (Shakhtar Donetsk)
Euzebiusz Smolarek (Borussia Dortmund)
Jacek Krzynówek (VfL Wolfsburg)
Jakub Błaszczykowski (Wisła Kraków)
Łukasz Garguła (GKS Bełchatów )
Przemysław Kaźmierczak (Boavista FC)
Rafał Murawski (Lech Poznań)
Wojciech Łobodziński (Zagłębie Lubin)
Maciej Iwański (Zagłębie Lubin)

Forwards:
Maciej Żurawski (Celtic Glasgow)
Radosław Matusiak (US Palermo)
Grzegorz Rasiak (Southampton FC)
Marek Saganowski (Southampton FC)
Mariusz Ujek (BOT Bełchatów)

Reserve list:
Tomasz Kuszczak (Manchester United), Marcin Baszczyński (Wisła Kraków), Adam Kokoszka (Wisła Kraków), Ireneusz Jeleń (AJ Auxerre), Robert Kolendowicz (Zagłębie Lubin), Łukasz Piszczek (Zagłębie Lubin), Bartłomiej Grzelak (Legia Warszawa).

The only one surprise is, that Jeleń is only in reserves. Piszczek deserved to be called to normal list of players in my opinion, he scores many goals lately.(Y)

Łukasz Piszczek replaced Matusiak in Polish squad for 2 upcoming matches against Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Even if it was a forced decision, it's absolutely right. Matusiak didn't play much lately and he caught an injury, Piszczek is on fire, especially after won the league with Zagłębie Lubin. He has ended the season with 11 goals scored, that's pretty much for him. (Y)

I agree. Good to see that Beenhakker is spotting those on form players but I'd pick Matusiak over Piszczek if he wasn't injured.
Anyway Anthony, are you watching Puchar Ekstraklasy? They're showing matches on both Polsat Sport and TV4. Very entertaining stuff.. GKS Bełchatów are my favourites to win it though.

Here is our probable formation for Azerbaijan according to Sport.pl

http://bi.gazeta.pl/im/5/4190/m4190125.jpg

I still have a feeling, that Iwański should be a starter.

Żurawski is unknown thing not only for me, I don't know what he's doing on the image. I know he's our captain but he didn't play from ages. He has watched games only at tribunes lately and for sure he's out of form.

KURWA MAĆ!!!

Azerbaijan 1 : 3 POLAND

Holy sh*t!!!

What the f*ck was that?! We played totally sh*t in the first half. Błaszczykowski tried a few times to do something but it did not give any result. I don't know why the hell Żurawski is our captain, can someone tell me, please? Fortunately Beenhakker did 2 great changes like bringing Saganowski and Łobodziński on the pitch. They should be starters in upcoming match because they were great.

Rasiak played very solid tonight together with outstanding Krzynówek ( assist and 2 goals). Smolarek (one goal) also did well, I don't want to talk about Boruc though ( everyone who watched match knows why).

I wasn't so stressed in a long time like tonight. This was surely our worst game in a long time but we gained 3 points so now I don't care how we played anymore.

With Armenia we should play without Żurawski and a few other guys. Definitely Saganowski and Łobodziński should be in the first squad, also we need a playmaker like Iwański.

Weird that Mila don't was there. I think he have been one of VIFs best players in summer now. He have been 100% pro, after Grocli and Austria Wien ****ed up who actually owned the player, and now we own him.
The Polish FA just send Norways FA Milas licens 1st August, and now he can play again, and he was one of our best when we beat Brann 2-0.

Do you think you will see Sebastian Mila in NT again?

Z Kazachstanem w Warszawie, z Węgrami w Łodzi

Komisja ds.

This match against Kazakhstan shouldn't be played at Legia, they should be punished for that what they've done in Vilno.

Widzew's stadium is a good pick for friendly against Hungary (Y)

In the Finnish media (atleast), there was a statement by Ebi, that even he had scored his first goal in Spain, he wasn't promising goals in the qualifier. Well... He could've. (H)

Congratulations to your team, I'm hoping we can still get back in, though we had another goalless tie against Belgium. We managed to score twice, both were called as offsides. And our best player atm, Eremenko jr got a yellow card and won't be playing in the next match.

Still, I hope we qualify through this group, with you. Screw Portugal. :p

Same here Jabo, we shud both go thru, if only for Pilsudski's Miedzymorze partnership and the fact that neither of us have qualified for a Euro :D On an interesting note, if Finland do qualify it will be just like Latvia, qualifying for the first time in a European Championship in the same year that you host the Eurovision :D

Ehm, i don't really agree with the "easy group" statement.. :D
Czech Rep might really let you go higher than them, since some of their players are 30+ years now, and they are expected to retire soon.
But i suspect strong concurrency in NIR and Slovakia.
Northern Ireland were very brave and got their qualification chances until the last game in their EURO2008 qualifying group. More over they beat Spain and Denmark, they only slipped once with Iceland, as far as i remember.

Slovakia are becoming better and better. They were on play-offs for the World Cup 2006 and lost to Spain there. Last qualification campaign was not very good for them, but i bet that they are very lucky to have drawn Czech Rep and you, instead of .. let's say Portugal and Sweden...
Kozak and Borbely from the Artmedia as well as Cech from Porto and Mintal are very good players. They might cause you troubles.

Slovenia aren't bad team too. We played them twice in last campaign, beat them 3-0 and 2-0, but the best thing of their squad is .. it's very young team. A dozen 22-23-24 year old players, all of them playing in good leagues, like the french one, Seria A, etc. So, Slovenia won't be easy too. They lost their games from the previous campaign all of them at the end, in the last 10-15 minutes. It's maybe the fact they're too young and inexperienced.

I don't know what age your main players are, but i guess Smolarek is still in his pick.
My suggestion for group standing at the end:
1.Slovakia
2.Poland
3.Czech
4.NIR
5.Slovenia

Only the fact Rosicky will continue playing convinced me not to let Czech Rep to 4th..
Don't get me wrong, i like Czech Rep very much, their gamestyle and everything, but the problem is, a few guys like Koller, Yankulovski,.. will be around 33-34-35-36 by the end of 2008 ... I don't see them play in 2010.

I know it's going to be really hard race for place at WC 2010. I respect all of them but I'm not afraid of them. Our qualifying group to EURO 2008 was harder not only because of Portugal.

'Unlucky' Lubański's legacy

To help mark UEFA's Jubilee, each national association was asked to nominate its most outstanding player of the past 50 years. In the latest of a series of articles looking at the Golden Player selected by the nations who have qualified for UEFA EURO 2008™, uefa.com remembers the career of Wlodzimierz Lubański.

Włodzimierz Lubański was Poland's record scorer with 50 goals in 80 games. He was his country's youngest-ever debutant when, at the age of 16, he found the net in a 9-0 win against Norway in September 1963. And despite injuries, he served his national team for 17 seasons. Nonetheless, of his nomination as Golden Player, he said only: "I did my best and, after all these years, it's nice to know it was worth it."

Domestic bliss
Lubanski started out with PA Nova Gliwice, but spent most of his career with the great Górnik Zabrze. Here he won seven Polish championships and top-scored in the First Division for four consecutive seasons from 1966-69 – still an Ekstraklasa record.

European success
In 1970 he was part of the Górnik team which became the only Polish side to contest a European final when they met England's Manchester City FC in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. Although Górnik lost 2-1, Lubanski was the leading marksman in that year's UEFA club competitions with seven goals.

Golden boy
Two years later he captained the Poland squad that struck gold at the 1972 Munich Olympics, beating Hungary 2-1 in the final. He described the experience as "something very special", but there were difficult times ahead.

Injury threat
During a 1974 FIFA World Cup qualifier against England in Chorzow, Lubanski was seriously injured in a challenge with England's Roy McFarland which almost ended his career. It took two years before he was fit enough to play again at the top level, and it was not until 1977 that he donned the Poland shirt once more. His final international came in 1980, in a 1-1 draw with Czechoslovakia, bringing to a close a wonderful career which yielded a half-century of goals.

Belgian adventure
In 1975 Lubanski moved to Belgian side KSC Lokeren OV, where he saw out his playing days. Under communist rule only players aged 28 or over were permitted to leave Poland and ply their trade abroad, and it was felt that a footballer of the stature of Lubanski was allowed to go only because injury had diminished his talent.

Life after playing
Still, this was a great player – elegant, quick, intelligent and strong. Lubanski lives in Belgium to this day and is an assistant coach at Lokeren working mostly with the club's strikers.

'Well respected'
"He was Poland's most talented player and also one of the most unlucky. Because of injury he did not play in the 1974 World Cup in which Poland did so well. As a player and as a man he was well respected by the whole team," his friend and former international colleague Grzegorz Lato said.

Poland recall for striker Wichniarek

Artur Wichniarek is back in the Poland squad Poland coach Leo Beenhakker has selected 36 players for the friendly games against Finland and the Czech Republic in Cyprus on 2 and 6 February, with DSC Arminia Bielefeld forward Artur Wichniarek recalled after a four-and-a-half year absence.

Two squads
The players have been divided into two groups: 22 home-based Ekstraklasa players are named for the match against Finland, with 16 of that number to return to Poland afterwards to be replaced by 14 foreign-based players. The remaining group of 20 will be involved in the friendly against fellow UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifiers, Czech Republic.

Wichniarek recall
The most notable inclusion by Beenhakker is that of Wichniarek – the 30-year-old with 16 caps is back after last representing Poland against Estonia in August 2003. Meanwhile, AJ Auxerre forward Ireneusz Jeleń is again omitted along with Manchester United FC goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak, who falls behind Celtic FC's Artur Boruc and Arsenal FC's Łukasz Fabiański in the pecking order. Poland play in Group B at this summer's finals in Austria and Switzerland, facing Germany, Austria and Croatia.

It becomes annoying how our group opponents and people related with football underrate us.

I don't know anything about that. We'll face Macedonia at 26th of May and Bulgaria the next day.

Leo Beenhakker announced the squad for friendly game with Estonia ( 27th of February, Wronki). He said:

It's a test match for players only from Polish league, without experienced guys who already proved they can play on the international level.

The call-ups for Estonia:
Bramkarze: Sebastian Przyrowski (Dyskobolia Grodzisk Wielkopolski), Bartosz Fabiniak (Widzew Łódź)

Obrońcy: Marcin Kuś (Korona Kielce), Adam Kokoszka (Wisła Kraków), Mariusz Pawelec (Górnik Zabrze), Jakub Wawrzyniak (Legia Warszawa), Tomasz Lisowski (Widzew Łódź)
Pomocnicy: Michał Pazdan (Górnik Zabrze), Piotr Kuklis (Widzew Łódź), Michał Goliński (Zagłębie Lubin), Konrad Gołoś (Górnik Zabrze), Kamil Grosicki (Legia Warszawa), Łukasz Garguła (GKS Bełchatów), Radosław Majewski (Dyskobolia), Marek Zieńczuk (Wisła K.)

Matusiak & Zahorski

It was a solid performance by our boys. We've dominated the game but there were lots of inaccuracy passes. We can't blame them because they've played first time in this squad. Matusiak showed yesterday some of his old form and scored a goal. But undisputed MAN OF THE MATCH was Kokoszka! This guys is incredible, plays as a central defender, sees everything on the pitch, blocks everything and everyone. And he's only 20!!!

You were right

Poland to prepare against Albania
Poland will face Albania in a friendly on 27 May as part of their pre-UEFA EURO 2008™ training camp in Germany.

New agreement
Polish Football Association president Michal Listkiewicz explained that the match replaces a previously arranged fixture. "We were initially planning to play Bulgaria but they changed their plans," Listkiewicz said. "Coach Leo Beenhakker has accepted Albania as new opponents."

Programme
Beenhakker's side return to action against the United States in Krakow on 26 March and have a game against F.Y.R. Macedonia planned for the day before the Albania encounter. They then meet Denmark in Chorzow on 1 June, a week prior to their first ever UEFA European Championship finals match against Germany in Klagenfurt, with co-hosts Austria and Croatia to come in the group stage. Listkiewicz is also looking ahead to 2012, when Poland will co-host the finals, by reaching an agreement with his Ukrainian counterpart Grigoriy Surkis for the nations to meet each year before the finals.

Foreigners give Poland a lesson
A team comprising the best foreign players in the Ekstraklasa overcame Leo Beenhakker's national team 3-2 in an unofficial friendly fixture on Tuesday.

Poor start
In front of a 16,000 crowd in Szczecin, Poland fielded a largely home-based squad save for VfL Wolfsburg winger Jacek Krzynówek and Hertha BSC Berlin striker Łukasz Piszczek. They were a goal down within a minute of the off, however, as Zagłębie Lubin's Colombian defender Manuel Arboleda headed in an Edson corner, and two down on 39 when F.Y.R. Macedonia striker Filip Ivanovski scored with another header.

Poland rally
Poland rallied after the break, and Łukasz Garguła, Krzynówek and Michał Goliński all wasted opportunities before Piszczek hit the post on 62 minutes. Garguła finally halved the deficit with a header after goalkeeper Jan Mucha failed to hold a Krzynówek shot on 73 minutes, although the foreigners restored their two-goal lead six minutes later with a 20-metre shot from Legia Warszawa's Zimbabwean striker Takesure Chinyama.

'Useful test'
Legia defender Jakub Wawrzyniak scored a consolation goal for Poland with a neat volley on 89 minutes, and coach Beenhakker was not too disappointed with the overall performance, saying: "We are continuing our preparations for EURO 2008™ and this was a very useful test."

Pfff... I haven't seen us playing so bad in a while!

Beenhakker turns to uncapped Janczyk

Poland coach Leo Beenhakker has named the uncapped PFC CSKA Moskva forward Dawid Janczyk in his squad for the friendly against the United States in Krakow on 26 March, while defender Arkadiusz Radomski returns to the fold for the first time in 13 months.

Youthful promise
Janczyk, 20, was selected by former national coach Pawel Janas for the friendly against Saudi Arabia in March 2006 but injury prevented him from making his debut. More recently, Janczyk scored three goals at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup when Poland reached the last 16 and his inclusion comes at the expense of Grzegorz Rasiak, Marek Saganowski, Artur Wichniarek and Ireneusz Jeleń, all of whom have been omitted by Beenhakker.

Fully recovered
FK Austria Wien's Radomski, meanwhile, last appeared for Poland against Slovakia over 12 months ago, and returns to the squad having recovered from a serious knee injury. The 30-year-old was a regular at the start of UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying, playing in Poland's first four Group A qualifiers.

Poland squad
Goalkeepers: Artur Boruc (Celtic FC), Tomasz Kuszczak (Manchester United FC), Łukasz Fabiański (Arsenal FC).

Defenders: Marcin Wasilewski (RSC Anderlecht), Paweł Golański (FC Steaua Bucuresti), Mariusz Jop (FC Moskva), Jacek Bąk (FK Austria Wien), Michał Żewłakow (Olympiacos CFP), Grzegorz Bronowicki (FK Crvena Zvezda), Arkadiusz Radomski (FK Austria Wien), Marcin Kuś (Korona Kielce), Adam Kokoszka (Wisła Kraków), Jakub Wawrzyniak (KP Legia Warszawa).

Midfielders: Mariusz Lewandowski (FC Shakhtar Donetsk), Dariusz Dudka (Wisła Kraków), Wojciech Łobodziński (Wisła Kraków), Rafał Murawski (KKP Lech Poznań), Michał Pazdan (Górnik Zabrze), Michał Goliński (Zagłębie Lubin), Jakub Błaszczykowski (BV Borussia Dortmund), Łukasz Garguła (GKS Bełchatów), Jacek Krzynówek (VfL Wolfsburg), Radosław Majewski (Groclin Grodzisk Wielkopolski).

Forwards: Tomasz Zahorski (Górnik Zabrze), Maciej Żurawski (Larissa FC), Euzebiusz Smolarek (Real Racing Club Santander), Łukasz Piszczek (Hertha BSC Berlin), Radosław Matusiak (Wisła Kraków), Paweł Brożek (Wisła Kraków), Dawid Janczyk (PFC CSKA Moskva).

Janczyk finally got into squad and I hope he'll prove Beenhakker he should take him for EURO 2008.

Bramkarze: Artur Boruc (Celtic Glasgow), Tomasz Kuszczak (Manchester United), Łukasz Fabiański (Arsenal Londyn), Wojciech Kowalewski (Kolporter Korona Kielce)

Beenhakker will choose 23 players from this group for EURO 2008. There are no shocking names, the only thing which still worries me is that he still wants Roger. He's not on the list because he still haven't got Polish passport. But only if he gets it, he'll be probably thrown into the squad.

I say you guys, if Rogers will get the call, I wish our NT to get raped by Germany, Austria and Croatia. Seriously, this is Polish National Team, not Brazilian, Spanish or other. Playing for Legia doesn't make him Polish, even a little. Beenhakker says it's normal in other countries but he's in POLAND and we want our countrymen to play for us.

Roger receives Polish green light

Poland coach Leo Beenhakker will consider naming Roger Guerreiro in his UEFA EURO 2008™ squad after the Brazilian-born Legia Warszawa midfielder was granted Polish citizenship by the country's President Lech Kaczyński.

'Welcome'
Roger has been playing in Poland since 2005, and although citizens are usually required to spend at least five years in the country before they can be naturalised, the 25-year-old's case has been fast-tracked with a view to him appearing in this summer's finals. "We welcome you in the hope that you will enjoy success with our national team, both at UEFA EURO2008™ and of course at EURO 2012™," Kaczyński declared.

Provisional list
Beenhakker is a known admirer of Roger and is expected to add him to the provisional list of 31 names he unveiled on Wednesday. "If Roger gets the citizenship, we will ask the authorities if we can add him to our squad," said the Dutchman, who must whittle his selection down to 23 in the coming weeks.

Roger vow
The player himself, meanwhile, is already relishing the prospect of representing his adopted country in Austria and Switzerland. "I'm very happy because I've been waiting for long time to get citizenship," Roger said. "I was getting nervous. Now I've got it I promise to represent Poland as best I can on the pitch and in every other situation."

Olisadebe precedent
Roger's former clubs include AD Săo Caetano, SC Corinthians and EC Juventude, although he is best remembered in Brazil for his performances at CR Flamengo in 2004. The left-sided midfielder also had a loan spell in Spain at RC Celta de Vigo before joining Legia, where he has scored 14 goals in 66 appearances. Should the Brazilian play for Poland, he would be following in the footsteps of the Nigerian-born Emmanuel Olisadebe, who scored eleven times in 25 internationals for the European nation.

What a shame!:(

PZPN chce ubiec Niemców

ZWIĄZEK SZUKA GRACZY ZA GRANICĄ, KTÓRZY MOGĄ WZMOCNIĆ KADRĘ

Bezpowrotnie straciliśmy Miroslava Klose i Lukasa Podolskiego.

Podobnie sądzi Dominik Kruczek, zawodnik Borussii Moenchengladbach.

Better late than never. I thought that guys from PZPN are permanently blind. Thank God they're not. We can't let our perspective players to go to other national teams anymore. Finally, they started doing something in this way(Y)

This is exactly what the PZPN shud be focusing on, getting our own players back from the "lucrative representations" of "better teams" - not getting random foreigners because they're too **** to get into their own NT's...

If the players are that good then the team shud progress naturally, not that the players are good because they play for a supposedly better team

Do poziomu nastolatków zniżają się też same kluby. To wyjątkowo nieładne zachowanie - uważa trener.

Germans are mad on us because we want our players to play for Polish NT. They're whining because they pay for football education for youngsters who won't play for Germany.

Haha:innocent_smile_1:

Also those youngsters say that the teammates were laughing on them because they're Polish. The coaches of teams they play for do not let them to go on NT camps. But the most common punishment if putting on the bench.

Match against Albania is going to play like it was arranged.

'Poland have arranged a friendly game against Bosnia-Herzegovina for 27 May'

Also the official PZPN site says we play with Bosnia instead of Albania. I don't know who to believe though.8|

I read that Poland has sent a fax to Albanian Federation writing that they will wait for suspension to take away until Wednesday. If not they will make official friendly with Bosnia.

So we are waiting for suspension to withdraw every moment.

even I read, that they have take this like finished and they are talking for match time and these small details now.

The only thing we can do now is to wait for the official info.

Here's a short part of an interview with Roger:

Roger was asked about people who make efforts to get Polish citizenship for years. People who speak Polish fluently, live here for years and want to stay here. He was also asked if he wants through Polish NT to promote himself to a better club.

He said he deserved the Polish citizenship because he has played here for 2 years.

Is something wrong with me because I don't understand his arguments?

It would be funny if he is the best player in the tournament for Poland. :innocent_smile_1:

And than people hate America because our Athletes are not real 'Americans'.. At least most of them are born here. :p

Although Anthony mate i think we all agree that Roger is more Polish than this guy ever was. :p
