View Full Version : The best crowd in a PC soccer game . . .
For some reason, it is really important to me that the crowd looks as realistic as possible in a soccer video game. in FIFA 2001, the gfx were so good (player models, field, stadium) but the crowd looks so crappy that it just ruined everything.
I thought I would mention that the best crowd ever (in terms of realism) was in Microsoft International Soccer 2000. For those of you who have not played that game, or seen the crowd in that game, believe me it is far superior than the crwod in ISS, FIFA, and UEFA Challenge, even from far away, you can actually make out each person in the crowd, and there is no slowdown in the game. And what realy surprises me the most is that this game came out 2 years ago.
So why wouldn't EA follow in MS's footsteps?

flyer884 15-08-2001, 05:08:AM i dont think the crowd is that great, they are lifeless. nhl 2001 for the pc has the best crowd i have ever seen.
Alenitchev 15-08-2001, 05:11:AM I like the ones in CL 99-2000
Help? 15-08-2001, 05:25:AM SCTW, said it right, the best crowd is in MIS2000. The people out there can make photos, flashlights, flags and look like a real person. But the bad thing about the crowd is that, the fans are not moving. They are just seating there, even when someone scored a goal.
BTW......... what is the name of a stadium in MIS2000, that looks like an alien one, it's called bowl something, i dunno.

That crowd is the best. It has fans that are as realistic as the players.
Yup, I agree to that. It's fun seeing people even in the press boxes and suites. :D
Joe Lemon - U R not funny 15-08-2001, 06:26:AM As a matter of fact I remember that the 16-bit versions of FIFA that were released some seven or eight years ago. Even though the crowd sprites were repeated a bit around the stadium they all had individual movements, such as taking photos, standing up and waving and so on. OK so they weren't 3D but why haven't EA $ports done a thing like that for the more recent FIFA games.
I've seen a demo of Micro$oft International Soccer 2000 and the crowd in that is awesome, even though they seem to be stuck to their seat!
I even think FIFA 2000's **** crowd is better than 2001's, even though they look so similar (cartoon style) - why? Cos the images were double the size of what they are now. The Euro 2000 ones were the best of the lot though I reckon...
WOW! 1 hour after my post and I am surprised at how many repsonses there are :)
Finally we are getting back on track and talking about FIFA, PC Soccergaming etc. I will try to start some more good topics . . .
Going back to the crowd, Yes, the crowd in MS International Soccer is lifeless, but they LOOK better than any other crowd in a soccer video game (which is why i did not mention NHL's or NBA Live's crowd)

nickclubman 20-08-2001, 01:08:PM the best crowd I've EVER seen is the early PC FIFA 2002 screenshots. The crowd looks so good and 3D. They also seem to change colour for the teams kits.
Yeah, MS Soccer 2000 has one hell of a crowd, but I doubt it'll compare to FIFA 2002 enviroment.
Cya,
Nick Clubman
nickclubman: The crowd in FIFA 2002 is NOT 3D, take a closer look at one of the screenwhere u see the crowd on an angle, they are 2D bitmaps. Althought i do agree they look very nice, i stil say the crowd in MS International Soccer LOOKS nicer. But since they do not animate, FIFA 2002's will probably look better.
Alenitchev 21-08-2001, 01:21:AM If they continue to jump like maniacs, I'm in doubt it will be better.
DJLethal 21-08-2001, 01:22:AM Yeah yer right. At first, they look crapy and second, they are just a lil' too anoing. They start making noice at EVERY foul. And the most stupid thing, the thing that I'm complaning about for a few years now, there's just No home advantage. When I play a home match and I make a foul, the crowd starts sceamin theyre heads of. But when the oponent does it, they do the same thing. Not louder, not softer. And the new flags-in-the-crowd feature from FIFA is ok. But not more. There are no clublogos, just colors on those things, ofcorse you can download them, but it just isn't complete. And it's not like there are 15 flags from the home team and 5 from the away team, no, its 10/10. Just not realistic

Now tell me which crowd you would want, NHL 2002 or FIFA 2002 or MS International Soccer? Well look at these and tell me which one wins:

I know which crowd I'd choose.
Mike 'Air' 23-08-2001, 03:02:PM I think EA can make a 3D crowd for NHL because there are less animated players, and the arena is alot smaller (rink size)and so the crowd has to be more detailed. If you watch a football match on TV, the crowd isn't as close as an Ice Hockey match. Look at Sega's Virtua Tennis to see an excellent crowd. The crowd in FIFA2002 is a step in the right direction though.
Mike.
Dhruv 23-08-2001, 03:22:PM Hey Mike
