View Full Version : just played PS2 demo @ HMV!
nickclubman 05-09-2006, 07:00:PM Just went into my local HMV store in Leeds City centre and discovered a lovely PS2 demo playable. So I didn't play it.......
Joke!!
The gameplay is much improved, but very similar! It almost 'feels' just like FIFA 06, but it's slower and the animations are slower and more realistic. Passing isn't easy but you can tell there is more assistance with good players'.
Goalkeepers are better, I played a barcelona v man-utd (from what I remember they had 1 team playable from quite a few leagues, italian, spanish, english, mexican, etc). the CPU goalkeeper had the ball in his hands, dropped it and ran out of the box and booted the ball up the field! Much more realistic. Ronalidinho's free-kick is in there I am sure.
The shooting is harder, I noticed it is far more balanced although I was playing on SEMI-PRO and I couldn't change that difficulty. the defence is better for you and cpu.
Back to shooting. You can't just hit the target whenever you want, I hit some wide shots plenty of times, I even had a shot that got parried by keeper and my player ran up for what would be (in 06) an easy tap in, but because of the way I ran up and powered up the shot it went seriously wide! haha. Bout time EA had a harder shooting system, bout BLOODY time! I scored a beautiful long shot, didn't look unrealistic though...made me wanna shout out but in middle of HMV store you gotta compose ya get me?! none of this 'YEAH MOTHA F*CKA HOW U LIKE ME NOW HUH B*TCH SUCK THAT, SUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKK THAAAAAAAT!!!'. yeah you get me.....
Well, the overall feel to it is good, some kid was watching me play and said 'is this a two player demo?' so i said yeah, played him and beat him 2-0 :jap: DID I DO YOU GUYS PROUD? haha.
The graphics are better, and better proportions of players' i believe. Couldn't hear the sound sadly. But the gameplay is deffo in Pro Evo territory and if current-gen is, next-gen on 360 is gonna do some crazy as* gameplay! Can't wait, but then again i'm a FIFA fan.
oh and the right stick special moves have gone, but I read you can only pull off the best moves when you're on top of the game (like winning 3-0 and the crowd are lovin you!)
Overall, this game is by far the best FIFA, BY FAR!! Plays solid, feels realistic, overall very good experience of a football game. EA are on the right tracks here. If they keep it up, they'll be some converts I tell you.

If it's really like 06 i don't think i'll bother!
As that felt like the computer controlling the game instead of yourself!
How was the player reaction time?
nickclubman 05-09-2006, 07:10:PM player reaction was much better, the game itself doesn't play like 06, you can tell though that it's the same game engine, unlike what EA are doing with the brand-spanking new 360 game engine. This however, you can tell is built upon, but nevertheless feels FAR better than 06.
Give the PC demo a try first. It'll be the same as ps2.

Oh I will give it a go!
Didn't they say the PC version had an enhancement, or was that for all current gen versions?
ozzyosb 05-09-2006, 07:17:PM i hope tomorrow they release demo on PC
i cant wait any more :lui: :lui:
NK FOOTBALL © 05-09-2006, 07:39:PM i would believe ps2 and pc versions play alike.
Xifio 05-09-2006, 07:52:PM great hands-on preview Nick (Y)
only thing I'd like clarified: what exactly did you meant by "right stick special moves have gone, but I read you can only pull off the best moves when you're on top of the game (like winning 3-0 and the crowd are lovin you!)" ... is it that the right stick gets activated at a certain point, or that only certain players can perform showboat manoeuvres?
thx.

It's like basic moves, knock ball forward, kick ball back, knock left, knock right, all about getting some space between you and the ball to know it past a player or such. But the 'special moves' say doing a circular motion with the right stick in 06 will have the player do a 360 spin, however in 07 they don't do those moves unless you're winning and the players' start 'showing off'.
NK.
Xifio 05-09-2006, 08:02:PM OK, I think I got ya ... the better the scoreline, the higher the 'confidence', the flashier the skills ...
SlowSilver 05-09-2006, 08:03:PM :| That's crap though. That doesn't give you the freedom at all. :kader:
sa33ood 05-09-2006, 08:17:PM Less freedom better gameplay, I guess. :jambo:
Xifio 05-09-2006, 08:34:PM :| That's crap though. That doesn't give you the freedom at all. :kader:
I kinda agree that it definitely sounds like that ...
Ronnie, for example, has time and again pulled a super-flashy move to unlock the opposition defence and break the deadlock or pull a winner out of nothing ...
but I think that the game, instead of letting you to just tug the right stick in some direction (minimal effort) to suddenly bursting free, will allow you -- if you're fast enough -- to make those quick touches into spaces with the right stick to mesmerize the opposition defence on your own, and leave them in your wake (like Ronaldinho himself does) ...
at least, I hope this will be the case ...
portofan61 05-09-2006, 08:39:PM aw, i hope that's not the case for 360 :( Sometimes a skill move is what it takes to make or break the game.... not always but i'd definately like that freedom.
portofan61 05-09-2006, 08:40:PM it's ridiculous to think a game (#) is simulation if cristiano ronaldo can't do step overs and tricks when the game is scoreless, or if you're losing! God knows he pulls that stuff out at any point... :)
nickclubman 05-09-2006, 08:52:PM well when I controlled Ron' from barca, he was better controlled and I took on 3 players' and beat them so it's possible.

that's all I needed to hear (H)
italy74 05-09-2006, 09:47:PM hey NK
how were the ball physics- how much would you say they have improved from WC 2006- 10%
20% .....
30% ????
thanks
dipset 05-09-2006, 09:48:PM wow NK, much respect man for lettin us know , yea were the ball physics good like were u able to see shots twice like if ya know wat i mean (like in pro evo u wont see the same thing twice) :jap:
NK FOOTBALL © 05-09-2006, 11:59:PM the ball physics own WC 06, soooo much more simulation and very close to PES.
the overall feel to the ball was realism rather than arcade, i wouldnt doubt the previews, this game could have a few PES fans coming to FIFA, plus the 360 version is gonna be even better i think!
NK.
Xifio 06-09-2006, 12:17:AM the GM Magazine preview mentions "the odd hiccup with ball physics" on current-gen ...
NK FOOTBALL © 06-09-2006, 01:40:AM indeed, but in the build they played, which wasnt the final code.
i didnt notice a hiccup, plus i have that GM article and scanned it myself.
Plus, i didnt play for that long to discover bugs. wait til the demo mate
Xifio 06-09-2006, 04:07:AM (Y) not too long now anyway ...
BenBeckham 06-09-2006, 12:34:PM cheers for the preview :)
nickclubman 06-09-2006, 12:36:PM you're welcome :jap:
NK.
ronnifan9 06-09-2006, 01:05:PM This seems like a good thread to ask this question, nice prev dude...nice. (Y)
Anyways, by any chance does anybody know the # of players that can be edited?
i.e. - The number of created players + the number of palyers you can edit, since in '06 the total was 56 I was just wondering how many this year?
MasterM 06-09-2006, 02:22:PM it's ridiculous to think a game (#) is simulation if cristiano ronaldo can't do step overs and tricks when the game is scoreless, or if you're losing! God knows he pulls that stuff out at any point... :)
Unfortunately 95% of the moves of C.Ronaldo are useless. But i agree that Cristiano deserves special threatment, he should get a special diving button assigned.
SlowSilver 06-09-2006, 02:26:PM You're a douche.
lol can't say he's wrond tho, his most effective skill move is diving.
thisempty 06-09-2006, 03:07:PM Unfortunately 95% of the moves of C.Ronaldo are useless. But i agree that Cristiano deserves special threatment, he should get a special diving button assigned.
You're from the netherlands.
3 months since the WC06 and still bitter... lol
nickclubman 06-09-2006, 03:07:PM hahahaha C Ronaldo is a cheeky one ain't he! kissing the ball before the penalty, smirk on his face......he aint a bad player, but ah well.....im sure some of the bigger lads will take away his legs and leave him like a vegetable crying on the bench with the only realisation that he can't play the next few games because his knee caps are on the other side of his legs lol.
but seriously, he's a decent player! :jambo:
NK.
curswine 06-09-2006, 03:14:PM I'm sure each player will have their own attributes that will allow just them to do skills like Ronaldinho, and not your average piece of cr@p like Phil Neville to pull out the party tricks.
portofan61 06-09-2006, 03:43:PM not to get off topic but anyone who thinks c. ronaldo is the only person guilty of diving needs to get their eyes checked. the difference between him and everyone else is that he's bad at acting so it appears worse than it is. he's had a great season so far for man utd, and props to him for putting up w/ boos all the time and finally delivering some flash AND end product. AND he's what, 21?
k i'm done. fifa 07 for 360! woohoo! :)
MikeyM 06-09-2006, 06:43:PM I too, have just got the FIFA07 PS2 demo.
First off the animation and ball physics are superior to 06, the game is more realistic now too (and a bit harder). You really have to measure passes better than before (whereas you could tap triangle and hold L2 and loft a beautiful throughball everytime in 06, now you really have to work for it - many is the time that I saw the ball driven way over the intended recipient's head and into touch.
The ball also reacts alot better too, it deflects off players awkwardly like in real life, it doesn't seem so limited or scripted anymore. In fact I scored my first goal when Ji Sung Park drove the ball into the box, Dida parried it and it fell perfectly for Wayne Rooney to volley in. Shots now seem alot better in terms of pace as well, a long range effort from Ronaldinho for example, fizzes towards goal.
As for the "showboating" you have to now hold L2 and flick the right stick to execute moves like stepovers etc. Ronaldinho and Ronaldo can actually flick the ball up and clear of the ground, and then (with much practice) continue to juggle it. It took me by surprise the first time and the ball smacked the opponent in the chest and was lost. The ball is a lot more free than before and doesn't feel tied to the players anymore (at least nowhere near as much)
The commentary is still provided by Clive Tyldesley and Andy Gray and remains much the same (although new phrases have been added) new cinematics include the excellent intro that now starts inside the tunnel with the two sets of players (and cuts to "dream sequences" of some of the following match - like NHL06 did prematch. It works better than it sounds, trust me.
The graphics are slightly superior to 06, especially with regards to kits, AC Milan's adidas sleeve stripes look far clearer (though there still is a slight blur) and yes "bwin" does indeed appear on the front. (possibly 888.com and bet32red will also make it)
All in all the PS2 version is shaping up nicely, and I think will more than suffice for the month before the X360 version comes out.
Mike

Hrvoje Bajlo 06-09-2006, 09:38:PM owerall, is it the demo you guys played better than PES5?
nickclubman 06-09-2006, 10:03:PM owerall, is it the demo you guys played better than PES5?
I prefer FIFA, PES5 for me does my head right in! You get hold of a team like Brazil in PES5 and it feels like you're controlling unresponsive idiots that can't even play a passing game, yet alone shoot and cross the ball (talk about OTT for making a game challenging!).
FIFA 07 isn't easy, but goals make you feel good and the game made me feel good and that's important. It was fun to play and didn't bore me.
NK.
Tomba 06-09-2006, 11:36:PM The reason PES5 feel like that is because so much of the game is in your hands...
nickclubman 07-09-2006, 09:02:AM i know, but it gets to the point where the players' don't respond because they're too busy performing an animation. I know FIFA has the same problem in the past, but in PES, since you have control over so much, I got really angry that you couldn't do quick passes and string it altogether without losing the ball. Professional players' can pass with their eyes closed, but this game makes it feels like, well...like it's difficult to pass a ball in real life and that to me is more arcade, to make the game more challenging.
NK.
lil_kewell 07-09-2006, 09:25:AM NK FOOTBALL, it just sounds like u suck at PES5, see thats what i love about the pro evo series, takes time to get used to and there is so much in the game, i been playing Winning eleven 10 for months now and im still discovering new things. Thats what i hate about FIFA in the past, you play for a week and you score the same goals every time, and all the animations are repititive. Hopefully FIFA 07 is good, but i dont think it will be anywhere near the realism of Pro evo for some time now.
NK FOOTBALL © 07-09-2006, 10:21:AM Aar well, the game frustrates me more than making me feel rewarded :(
Logarth 07-09-2006, 01:52:PM Any chance of getting a torrent for the demo?? I'm in the States and none of my local game shops know anything about a PS2 demo whether you pre-order or not. :f***:
Bad enough that this country doesn't recognize the world's sport for the beautiful game that it is..
American "football"... :-puke:
Peace out...

~Honestly
I played 3 games on PES, by the 3rd i was playing on highest difficulty setting and winning. If there is anymore to discover i'll be pulling 9-10 goals a half.
Opponent AI is so BAD on PES... But its bad on FIFA too LOL
MikeyM 07-09-2006, 04:41:PM NO RIGHT STICK SKILL CONTROLS......THAT'S ME SCREWED THEN :boohoo:
No, there are skill moves, but you have to hold L2 before activating the right stick.
And in my opinion, FIFA07 feels much closer to PES5 - I really got the feeling of having to work opportunities and actually play down the wings and fight to get crosses in. It's extremely fun and rewarding to play - damn it, I'm off for another session! :)
Mike
valioso 07-09-2006, 07:31:PM NK FOOTBALL, it just sounds like u suck at PES5,

NK, have you played with Messi? How does he control in the game? Is it similar to real life?
