This is too everyone, and to Matt Holme so he can tell everyone to watch out, and put this post in the Announcements Section.

Last Friday afternoon I recieved a file from an unkown e-mail address, with an attatchment entitled "Fifa Player Patcher", thinking it was a download being submitted to me, I opened it, and my web browsers and e-mail client shut down. From then on I could not open anything, I would click on Internet Explorer and get an error, the same with any other application or program. I called my local PC repairer and they suggested reinstalling windows, so I had no choice. This virus is undetectable through virus scanners, so watch out. If you get an e-mail with an attatchment name "Fifa Player Patcher", and is a .bat file, do not open it, and delete it. I had to reinstall windows, and lost all my programs, lucky I backed them up.

This is a worm virus, possibly the code red worm.

If you are using Windows 98, then it's very dangerous!

As for me, it can't affect me as I'm using Wwindows ME and it can't get to that. Then again, it might not even be this virus, but it soundsl ike worm. It sent you Player Patcher? that's a FIFA 2001 patch. This worm looks through the files of peoples computers and sends them to people as attached files. You then download the file or open the E-MAIL up and ZAP! your computer's Explorer...DEAD!

You said your explorer diead, well this must have been the CODE RED WORM!!

Cya,

Thanx Fifa-Australia, I will be carefull when that one comes in, too bad that it was too late for you though.
I never open .exe files in the first place without scanning them first for viruses.
Cheers

Since the sircam virus broke up, I delete all mails larger than 100 kb, unless it's something I'm waiting.

...just don't be so stupid to open a .bat or .exe file sent from unknown user whatever name it has...
