View Full Version : Gold Demo First Impressions
Post your first impressions here. Do you like the new additions to the game? Anything you're bloody annoyed didnt make it into the game?
Maybe how wonderful the Hints and Tips are (H)
yoyo913 01-10-2006, 04:45:PM I got the demo and i was really excited, took charge of liverpool. I had a look at the feeder team options (added Wrexham to the list), I choose some youngsters to be tutured by the likes of Caragher and gerrard. I asked my scouts on the opinions of dozens of players... so far I am liking it but i was terribly dissapointed with the tactics, there was no change at all, I wanted to see more options and be given more freedom to create an ideal tactic... same with training, its the same (altough i like the training)
Overall however I feel this is a better game, it seems chemistry matters more.. the scounts knowledge, how well players get along..etc, purchasing players also seems more realistic.
I will post a pic later in the screenshot thread of my signings.
i think the thing is Horatio, is that training has been tampered with since 2001, so now they've found a winning combo they will leave it like that for as long as possible.
Tactics are the bread and butter of SI, and they never EVER change things that much, the omission of the wibble/wobble screens are about the biggest thing they've ever done. Many do believe that giving more induvidual instructions should be something to concentrate on though, like allowing certain players to run in several directions.
"Free role" is undeniably vague.
Its annoying when you're bidding for a player and everytime you negotiate a better deal the other club just re-negotiate with a bigger demand than before. Although that happened in 06 too...
adj137 01-10-2006, 05:52:PM yeah i got that when i was trying to get Rochemback to come to Fulham. Negotiating the deal was damn annoying, even harder because i was working with very finite resources.
Siawash 01-10-2006, 06:39:PM In FM 06, I've kept the Match Speed and Highlights to full, but it wasnt EVER as fast as on 07. They should keep it the same speed as lasts one. If i just move it back 1, its way too slow, hope you guys get what im saying, even though its a demo.
yoyo913 01-10-2006, 07:07:PM ^i agree
perhaps because the game is quicker now
completely agree too, i had to notch it down one.
Neil_SI 02-10-2006, 02:30:AM There are some new tactical options in Football Manager 2007.
"Opposition Instructions" are new and allow you to specifically target certain player's from your opponents on Match Day.
yoyo913 02-10-2006, 02:40:AM yes, but that dosen't affect much of your overall team tactic
Pizarro14 02-10-2006, 07:43:AM I been playing the demo with portsmouth and I love the game so far. But for some reason there's a "poor" morale bug or something.
Parra Power 02-10-2006, 10:26:AM I'm really enjoying it... the scouting system, feeder clubs and opponent tactics... my only complaint so far is the lack of an Australian quick start.
TOON ARMY 02-10-2006, 11:26:AM Seen a couple of insane tranfers but i suppose that's part of the magic of FM.
Socrates 02-10-2006, 01:04:PM Having a lot of fun with this so far. I really like that my scouts come out on thier own and tell me to take a closer look at certain players ( so far R. Garica, R. Albiol, and others ). The former players praising other players after having a great game gets really repetitive and annoying. Apart from that I am liking the new feauters, it seems like more chemistry and teamwork is needed in this edition. I also like that I can ask players who I should buy, recently Raul told me to buy X. Alonso.:D So far so good. (Y)
Andreas 02-10-2006, 03:29:PM Any Italians here who knows why Francesco Flachi has a global ban until december 2006? I'm pretty sure he's played some games already this year.
PSVFOREVER 02-10-2006, 04:56:PM Terrible Dutch database AGAIN as far as I can see it now. Doesn't seem very updated. It's still Ismael Aissati in the database for example, while it should be Ismail. He's in the first team for a year now. PSV doesnt have Jan Wouters or Bruins Slot in their staff, while they are Koeman's assistents. Philips Stadion STILL has a capacity of 33000, while in fact it is 35200. I havent looked at other teams yet, but im sure it'll be bad as well.
Don't like the ''black'' faces for players you dont have a picture from.
Good thing you finally can put in a bonus for winning a match. Never understood why that wasnt in.
And of course, finally a decent looking scout report.
yoyo913 02-10-2006, 07:57:PM One of the major things I noticed is that players are rated more fairly and there aren't superstars with perfect stats everywhere (unless they are deserved), i took alook at players with 20 for stats and in some categories there were only a hanfull of players with 20 in a certain stat.
(Y)
rony31 02-10-2006, 11:11:PM loving the game so far... not sure if its new or not, but the Controversial Goal addition with media speculation and stuff is pretty cool (H)
Pizarro14 03-10-2006, 01:22:AM yea let me tell you the media has a big f*cking mouth and I got a warning from the FA. Because one of my players got called for handball and the ref awarded the opponent with a penalty. After the game I say maybe they should relook at the call.
the best part is the turtoring.
I had Kaka tutor Gourcuff and at first, Gourcuff only had "dictates play" as a prefered move, now he has almost exactly all of Kaka's prefered moves like "tries killer balls" etc.
awesome feature.
within a few months of tutoring from Kaka, Gourcuff has been called up to the French senior team, playing in Zidane's position (H)
DAMN **** COOL wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Jonaz 03-10-2006, 12:25:PM How u get a player to Tutor another player?
Thats something i havent seen yet.
petarda_03 03-10-2006, 01:26:PM i have a problem. i play for 5 mins and then the pc crashes.can i do sth about it?please help
Parra Power 03-10-2006, 01:52:PM How u get a player to Tutor another player?

Try player interaction with youth players :jambo:

Neway, is anyone else experiencing a LOT of cards (like, a second yellow every game nearly)? Do you HAVE to use easy tackling?
Zlatan 03-10-2006, 02:28:PM The rule for me(with FM 2006 that is) was that only players with good tackling(=15-20) may use hard tackling. It always worked for me, haven't really experienced any problems with it in the demo so far.
Trailblazer 03-10-2006, 03:10:PM I really like it, it still doesnt seem totally polished, but I am liking the new features, aswell as the fact they havent gone too far.
adialex 03-10-2006, 03:13:PM It's possible to put real badges for teams?
Zlatan 03-10-2006, 03:18:PM I think it is. In fact I think you can use all graphics you had for FM 2006, except for skins.
Fernandez 03-10-2006, 05:11:PM ']the best part is the turtoring.

I discovered Gourcuff on FM, so thank me :jambo:

That would be cool (Y) , but I'm sure player IDs would have changed.
Oz_Leeds_Fan 03-10-2006, 05:24:PM Doest Gourcuff play for Milan youth?
hardly a backwater gem....
yoyo913 03-10-2006, 06:17:PM no, Gourcuff came from Rennes to Milan during the last transfer season. He is compared to Zidane alot and is french midfielder, he is already impressing at Milan. He's pretty much a starter but is out for a week or two with an injury. He got MoM in his champions league debut against Athens.
btw... no more Windowed (using the -command in shortcut) mode for FM07 :kader:
in a players stats screen a scrowling bar appears, not letting you see all the stats
Zlatan 03-10-2006, 06:34:PM That would be cool (Y) , but I'm sure player IDs would have changed.
They obviously haven't, as I've heard several people among the community say that FM 2006 graphics work.
Look at this (http://www.sortitoutsi.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=10201) thread at Susie for example.
Gourcuff was already a pretty big talent/player at FM 2006 BTW. Oh and just tick off Full Screen at Preferences > Display and Sound. It will have the same effect.
kickin_kyle 03-10-2006, 06:51:PM btw... no more Windowed (using the -command in shortcut) mode for FM07 :kader:
It works fine for me. I just copied it out of my FM06 shortcut.
fm.exe" -small_screen -windowed

well when i goto to a players stat screen it dosen't show all the stats (and there is a bar to the side that i cant push down)
i'm in 1024 x 768
edit: Zlatan I will try your advice

I tried having Danny Sturridge get tutored by Daruis Vassell... didn't work out :(
$teauA 04-10-2006, 01:11:AM I'm having a little trouble with my display. Here's what I mean...
When I don't have it set on full screen mode a small portion of the bottom bar gets cutt off:
http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/9667/picture1pg6.png
When I change it to full screen mode it just shrinks itself and then I have two black thick lines on the left and right side of my screen. Like this but with the lines:
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/7426/picture2oz5.png
as you can see the quality of the graphics lowers when I put it on full screen mode.
I have a 13 inch widescreen display on my macbook and i was wondering if there is any way to run this demo (or the final version of the game) on windowed mode but with the bottom part of the bar showing of course. PLEASE let me know if there is a way to fix this. Thanks
$teauA 04-10-2006, 02:02:AM nobody :( :(
nobody :(
btw, why do people want to play on windowed mode?
mattah 04-10-2006, 05:38:AM ']nobody :(
btw, why do people want to play on windowed mode?
I have dual monitors and I play with a lot of leagues. I run in windowed mode so I can do other stuff like browse the web, talk to friends etc while FM is *thinking*. FM is not a full time game for me, it's something to have going while I am doing other stuff on the web.
If there is no windowed mode, it will be greatly disappointing.
$teauA 04-10-2006, 05:53:AM ']nobody :(
btw, why do people want to play on windowed mode?
well on a regular monitor i prefer to not run windowed mode but since on this computer i have a widescreen display running in full screen mode adds two ugly black lines on the right and left sides of the screen and they look very crappy.
rpvankasteren 04-10-2006, 07:30:AM Wasn't there some option to get the fullscreen to convert to widescreen? I believe there is, just don't know where to find it.
Oz_Leeds_Fan 04-10-2006, 10:56:AM Its a good demo, lots of new features and i, like the increased speed of the game.
Although similar to last years demo i just cant get into it...cant get past the fact that its only a 6 month game and anything i do with the team is meaningless :boohoo:
Hehe i'm back playin 06 till the full version comes out :)
$teauA 04-10-2006, 11:55:AM Wasn't there some option to get the fullscreen to convert to widescreen? I believe there is, just don't know where to find it.
there is??? it's not in the main menu display and sound options so i dont know.
Seán D 04-10-2006, 03:05:PM Is it just me or does the game seem easier? Or is it just that I made my tactic player by player to suit everything? Seems easier though. Much harder to sign players. Negotiations suck. Chelsea signed Toni for 14.5m - Fiorentina rejected bids between 14.5-20m from me wanting more when they'd already accepted Chelsea's offer. Well pissed off.
rpvankasteren 04-10-2006, 03:44:PM there is??? it's not in the main menu display and sound options so i dont know.
Yes, I just searched for it in the SI forums, and what you do is right click the FM icon on your desktop and add -fullscreen_width=1440 -fullscreen_height=900 to the command line.
It'll look like this: <"C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2007 Demo\fm.exe" -fullscreen_width=1440 -fullscreen_height=900>.
Change the resolution to the one you want.
Dreath 04-10-2006, 04:12:PM There's no option to get Henry to tutor Walcott :(

That's cool and all but there's one problem. I run OS X on this Mac not Windows :(
RuiCosta_10 04-10-2006, 07:24:PM Looking great to me, awesome new stuff like the feeder clubs, tutoring players, more info on the club, complaining about refereeing ((H)), game win prize, new comments, etc...
About the tactics, not many changes, love the fact that you can give individual instructions to neutralize other team's players.
The database looks exactly the same in Portugal, apart from Sporting who had some player's notes increased... Benfica looks exactly the same, and i was hoping players like Luisão, Nuno Gomes, etc would have their notes better in this game.
maybe i'm unlucky, but i'm having to many injuries, and maybe i'm being lucky because i'm winning to many games on the last minutes :p,
totally adicted so far, can't wait for the final version...
Filipower 04-10-2006, 10:43:PM hey RuiCosta_10 can you give me some info on Porto players? thanks:jap:
rpvankasteren 05-10-2006, 05:59:AM That's cool and all but there's one problem. I run OS X on this Mac not Windows :(
Can't help with a mac. All I could find was a post saying: "on mac you can just drag your window. i LOVE the widescreen mode on my powerbook! :D"
Don't know how that would work.
NightBoy1991 05-10-2006, 01:46:PM can someone tell my how can i ofer prize money for winning the match??
Seán D 05-10-2006, 02:48:PM can someone tell my how can i ofer prize money for winning the match??
read the rules - sig must be no more than 300x100 pixels in size.
loz99 05-10-2006, 06:03:PM Its great. The last FM i got was 2005 and the game hasn't seemed to have changed much, especially the match engine, which unfortunately has no sound in this demo. Still, not unrealistic like CM, on which ur chelsea and u buy ronaldinho + all the rest of the best and somehow still can't win lol. I'm impressed
NightBoy1991 05-10-2006, 06:09:PM read the rules - sig must be no more than 300x100 pixels in size.
ok but how i can offer prize money for victory at fm 2007?
Zlatan 05-10-2006, 06:24:PM You can't.
Anyway, I've got a bit the time to play and I must say I don't really like it as much as liked FM 2006 so far. What I've noticed that many players are way underrated, I mean you can't even set up a good all-around team with big guns like Real Madrid and someone like Eto'o has finishing 16(while it should be 20 IMO). :| I wonder how LLM would be like in FM 2007. :)
Still I'm only still in July so I'm not concluding anything yet.
yoyo913 05-10-2006, 09:42:PM I like that the stats are lowered, you appreciate a great player more...
RuiCosta_10 05-10-2006, 10:44:PM You can't.
You can, while offering a contract to a player you can offer him a win bonus, next to the appearence fee and goal bonus, about the player stats they start getting up like 2 or 3 values from the beggining.
Fili, Porto looks exactly the same, like Benfica :S
Anderson looks amazing tho
PaPaGeorGeo 05-10-2006, 11:16:PM I like that the stats are lowered, you appreciate a great player more...
Yeh in FM 06, the stats were over the top
$teauA 06-10-2006, 12:56:AM how long does it take for the SI Forums to approve an account?
one-two days I guess. I also registered about last week.
Socrates 06-10-2006, 11:58:AM Yeh in FM 06, the stats were over the top
Agree, too many 20's for too many players. Eto'o is not as clinical of a striker as some would think...he misses quite a bit of chances (IRL) but his other attributes will easily make up for that in the game and IRL.
Anyway, looks like the 4-2-3-1 will be the tactic to use this time around.
Dreath 06-10-2006, 03:33:PM I think negotions are much better now. You will overpay if he as a long contract. That's how it is in RL.
Zlatan 06-10-2006, 03:42:PM Here's another thing I noticed, in the first half hour of the game I score a goal and no mather how hard we try we can't find the net for a second time in the remaining game. This far I've only had 2 games in which I scored more than one goal. It could be my tactics, though.
pretty good demo
i've made review of it here http://www.faqfc.com/logs/linkcounter/click.php?id=2
cheers
Fernandez 06-10-2006, 10:19:PM Is FM06 tactics completely compatible with FM07's?
dannyeli 07-10-2006, 09:07:AM Great game.... and i like that the Italian teams have their minus points at the begining, which makes it very real. Faster than last year no doubt, and it's harder to scored 2 goals.
In my game Barcelona has lost one and tie 2, in 9 games.... which is pretty nice considering that when they win, they win big.
btw the coolest thing is to coach chelsea just to see how many big names can you sign, with 126 $ is really entertaining to make deals (but again i'm playing la liga)
btw the coolest thing is to coach chelsea just to see how many big names can you sign, with 126 $ is really entertaining to make deals (but again i'm playing la liga)
the coolest in CM, sorry FM i mean (:P) , was and always will be strting a game with a realy small team and get them to the top all by yourself, without high budgets etc.
adj137 07-10-2006, 01:37:PM yeh but theres no fun in that on the demos. i like building up teams, but with six months its all about having as much fun with signings as possible
RuiCosta_10 07-10-2006, 02:29:PM hmm, well, i started with Benfica anyway, didn't worried much about getting new players, i'm just seeing how the game is, discovering it's new features etc...
Only got Kerlon in a six month loan deal :p
dannyeli 07-10-2006, 05:31:PM yeh but theres no fun in that on the demos. i like building up teams, but with six months its all about having as much fun with signings as possible
that's my point, you know therre's no point in signing good young players or something is a demo. in the real game you know even if you play for chelsea that you cant spent all your money, so why not in the demo and build a fantasy team.
rony31 07-10-2006, 08:47:PM btw the coolest thing is to coach chelsea just to see how many big names can you sign, with 126 $ is really entertaining to make deals (but again i'm playing la liga)
haha I did that... very first day I signed Klose for 30M GBP :p then some team made a bid for LWB Michael Ball from PSV, and I had first option on him, so I matched the bid, ended up signing up then sent him to the reserves... very Chelsea like if you ask me (H)
pefan 07-10-2006, 08:50:PM 6 months isnt enough...i wouldnt have downloaded the demo if i knew it was only six months...
Its looking good so far. The game is way faster and i can still run it on this crappy pc.

Yes same here, and to add to that the CPU scores with little chances...:(
Stotty 08-10-2006, 12:17:PM 6 months isnt enough...i wouldnt have downloaded the demo if i knew it was only six months....
yeah man! They should just release the game for us to download!!!! :fool:
To be honest, you could argue a one-season download would make far more sense.
Zlatan 08-10-2006, 02:58:PM Yeah that's true, you're left with an undone feeling if you can't finish your season. Fortunatly though you can play beyond 6 months with the same demo game when you buy the full game.
BTW Tom, your sig. :rockman:
Kibe Kru 08-10-2006, 09:06:PM Nice game, first FM I got hooked on.
I even downloaded the bigger version to get some more leagues to play with (big deal if you're on 56k like me :( )
Player interaction is good, and feeder clubs are quite nice. I need more money to spend on games.....
tracertong 08-10-2006, 09:12:PM To be honest, you could argue a one-season download would make far more sense.
If they released a full season demo people would just restart the game every time the season ended. That is why you only got 6 months.
Filipower 08-10-2006, 09:27:PM huh?
RuiCosta_10 08-10-2006, 09:31:PM hã?

I can't say anything about the other people here, but FM to me is about building a side that can consistently win trophies, not just get one trophy, then reset the whole game.
Anyways, if you want to complete a championship, start the Brazilian league and compete in the state championships (not sure if you can actually complete them, but then again, who cares about Brazilian state leagues?)

I think your missing the point. It's about people who want something for nothing.....hence they released it for 6 months. Your looking at it from the view of a hardcore fm player not someone who wants a quick hit for free,
Feel free to ask SI who apparantly read these boards , they will back up what I say.

Ok, got it now. Still can't see why someone would want to play only a season, but then again, SI knows better about their products.
garlei 09-10-2006, 05:08:AM Anyone else having real trouble converting chances? I'm dominating games (#) but not finishing.
Assign a good coach to do shooting drills.
I assigned one coach for each skill.
Sack the scouts, sign coaches and physios. It's worth the investment
can someone explain the feeder clubs?
is it possible to sign a non-EU player and send him to another club first to gain EU status? like what Arsenal do with Beveren?
Dreath 09-10-2006, 03:29:PM ']can someone explain the feeder clubs?

Yes, they'll fail the work permit application but be in your sqaud with a wp next to them, then you can just loan them to your feeder club.
thats how it works in the EPL, but in Italy, you can only sign one non-EU a season. that means he cant join at all. or..?
oh and btw, how come the Go On Holiday feature doesnt work right? is it a bug?

Got caught in a betting ring apparently... Don't think it was related to the match-fixing scandal however.
Started a few weeks ago I think.
houston3721 13-10-2006, 06:42:AM The bonus for players costs A LOT in FM07. eg, win bonus or appearance bonus for Rio Ferdinand is like 24000 pound!
and I really want to know more abou the tutoring thing.
Do the players getting tutored have faster improvement in the corresponding stats that their "teacher" is good at?
Or they can only learn the preferred moves?
and I dont like the first-team, youth, fitness coach thing...
thanks

I dont know if they improve faster but they play more like thier teacher does. They do the same perferred mvoes and most likely get the same kind of attributes.
Da Kid 15-10-2006, 08:39:AM I really like the shortcut keys option and assistant manager advices....I hate the atribute colors... :boohoo: Can someone upload if he has other colors?
Aarfy Aardvark 15-10-2006, 03:39:PM Has anyone got themselves a touch-line ban from the FA yet?
Apparently if you slag off the referee and other managers you can get a ban, meaning your assistant controls the next match.
Zlatan 15-10-2006, 04:06:PM Haha, how cool is that! I'm gonna try it out immediatly. :D

I got a ban for slagging the ref who sent off Saha. Lost 2-0 and the match which I didn't control 3-1. United in 11th after 10 matches :(
Dreath 21-10-2006, 12:02:PM Ok, one season in I thought I'd check out the regens... why do they all have ******* SH*T physical stats!? Only 2 out of about 25 I looked at had a physical stat over 15. And they were goalies!
