will this change viera's mind?
Amika 03-07-2001, 03:43:PM well, it sure boosted the chances that vierra to stay at arsenal... great news to all gunners fans...

i wish. maybe you're joking, i can't really tell. arsenal will have picked up wright and campbell, sure, but that certainly doesn't make them better than man united. especially not if united will have both van nistelrooij and veron.
campbell is a very good player (albeit not worth £200k a week) but he alone doesn't make arsenal the best club in england, let alone europe. hopefully his presence will keep vieira there and give them a better shot at winning the premiership this year, but i'd say they're still a year or two from winning it again, and they're a few years from having the capacity to win a champions cup.
here's hoping arsenal do overtake man united. i doubt it will happen, but my fingers are crossed.
Help? 03-07-2001, 09:21:PM Hmm, i think, Sol is thinking too much about him. Last season he said that he will stay Tottenham only if they will get CL spot, but practically everyone knew, that they wouldn't and they didn't. This year he moved to Arsenal and hoping to win tropies with a club, that won nothing last year, instead of moving to Man U that won a premiership or Liverpool that won the treble. Probably Arsenal will be stronger, but so as Liverpool and Man U. And predict that Man U and LIverpool will fight to win the premiership next year. Arsenal will be 3rd or 4th. Their best singing was Sol, maybe Jeffers, i don't. Jeffers isn't that good. And as "dsh" said Sol can't change the whole team. Well, only Beckham did this in WC98, when England where the fovourites to win the Cup and lost, because Beckham was sent off. So, i don't think, that Arsenal are gonna overcome Manchester Unted, but who knows?

genesis 03-07-2001, 11:53:PM Sol Campbell is definitely a good defender, but is he better than Adams or Keown?
Which of the players above will need to give away his position to Campbell?
Campbell said that he wants to play in England so that Eriksson can observe his performance. However, if Sol can choose Barcelona, I think it's the better choice.
I wish Sol can do better in the Gunners.
For Vieira, either he will go or stay, the damage is done between him and the team and the fans. He has shown the world what kind of the person he is.

england weren't the favorites. as far as i know, argentina were the favorites to win that match in which beckham was sent off. there were four or five teams which were favored over england to win the cup that year (brazil, argentina, holland, italy...). fact is, england shouldn't blame that loss solely on beckham. he did a stupid thing, but matches aren't lost on single plays. if they play a better ninety minutes than the other side, they should have a positive result. that doesn't always happen, of course, but for all we know, beckham could have been given a stern warning and later knocked in the winning goal for england. or an autogoal to give argentina the victory.
can't blame the loss on a single incident.

That's what i am always thinking, but after the WC 98 when Engalnd lost all the blame was on Beckham! Fans said that it was his fault and i remember it very good. But i still don't know why all the blame was on him. It wasn't like in Euro2000 with Phil N., that was a real mistake from him. But i in 98 i think that it wasn't Beckham's fault, but that what English fans said!
the -Russian Rocket- 04-07-2001, 06:22:AM England were FAR from being the favorites to win the WC.. ITaly, Germany (before losing to Croats), Brazil, Argentina, Holland were ahead of England by a big margin..
as for Campbell -- oh well.. I actually thought that either Manu or Barca will grab him, but it was Arsenal.. not that big of a deal...
And Camplbell does NOT make Arsenal be better than MU, no way.. Manu have got Veron and Van Nistelrooj now and Arsenal lost 6:1 to Manu last year, didn't they? Heh, that shows that they are still not close to Manu with Campbell even without Manu's signings...
PS. I heard that Manu signed somebody from Preston NE for a quite amount of money.. Was that a rumour or was that true?
thanks in advance...; too lazy to check the media sources..

Yeah they did but dont forget that was with a defence of Luzhny,Stepanovs and Grimandi. So with Sol Campbell there now and hopefully a fit Tony Adams and Martin Keown theres not gonna be a reapeat of that result this season.

I only heard that they want to sign Roy Caroll (don't knw who he is), from Wigan.
boiler 04-07-2001, 05:09:PM So now Man U will beat Arsenal 3 or 4 to 1.
Anybody have any ideas where veron and van nistelrooj will fit in the squad? I have been on vacation, and haven't followed the offseason deals that much. Will Roy Keane be out of the lineup? Or Scholes?, and what about up front, Will it be Yorke? (probably).

They don't need to win with 6-1, 2-1 or 3-1 will do just fine :D :D
Saying that because Campbell goes to Arsenal they can now overtake ManUnited is wishfull thinking if you ask me and not realistic!
Sol is a great asset for Arsenal but United is still the best!!
Arsenal is not out of the woods yet, in the Dutch press you can read that Arsenal and Feyenoord will re-open negotiation for goalkeeper Dudek, that would be good for Arsenal because with all do respect, Seaman is a great goalkeeper but it's time for new blood don't you agree?
Hopefully Arsenal will perform better during the next season otherwise it's not only Vieira who wants to leave believe me.
Amika 05-07-2001, 06:25:AM well, my view is that viera may stay for another season and if arsenal can't perform next season than i think he will definitely leave arsenal for good...
Dhruv 05-07-2001, 11:41:AM Campbell IS a DAMN TRAITOR!
i feel sorry for tottenham fans
Amika 05-07-2001, 03:26:PM well traitor is too much of a word to use... but let's face the fact that he won't be able to win anything with spur... no disrespect to all spurs fans here... but let's face the fact...
boiler 05-07-2001, 04:19:PM It will be hard to win anything with Arsenal as well. Manchester United is just too rich. They keep buying more and more world class players to stay ahead of the rest of the EPL. It will be hard for anyone catch them now.
ShearerM4 05-07-2001, 04:47:PM I'm just so glad that Campbell decided to stay in the England !!! i'm lost for words !
sure i was hoping he would go Liverpool or even Newcastle (hum ... dream on), but he wanted to stay in London.
But sadly unlike Ginola he won't be getting a heroe's welcome whne he goes back to White hart Lane and rightly so..... Spurs fans were saying that they wished Campbell good lucj whereever he goes exept if it's Arsenal
The Gunners have apparently offered Campbell a personnal boyguard.
I suppose when you think about it, it was probably the best choice for him, their's good competition > adams & keown who he knows well from international scene, even though Admas only has one year left.
and the arrival of V. Bronkhorst should make Arsenal the second favourite for EPL, anyway Vieira won't leave that's definite coz Arsenal won't let him leave .. coz he's under contract and can't break it .. arsenal have threatend o take big Pat to court if he tries to get free.
THIS PREMIERLEAGUE season promises to be one of the the most exciting ones ever up there with 94-95 and 96-97..... with all these new faces everywhere !!!!

Well Arsenal will certainly have more chance of getting trophies then Spurs thats for sure.
the -Russian Rocket- 06-07-2001, 01:37:AM Man U do not actually spend money on transfers that much... Look, at least 5 of the players in their first 11 not only are Englishmen, but have came through their youth academy; G.Neville, Beckham, Scholes, Giggs, Brown/P.Neville/Butt... So they can afford to spend big money on one player, whereas teams like Newcastle, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool to an extent spend nearly the same amount of money every year (if not more) as Man U, but get more players.. Fro example Man U will buy a guy for 25 million pounds, while Arsenal will buy 3 guys for 10 million each.. Manchester United spend on transfers just as much (if not less) as other teams in the Premiership.. But overall, they've got the biggest budget in the league (and possibly int he world).. But the budget does not mean much, it seems; Real Madrid can be in debt for 200 million dollars, but still they can afford to buy players for 60 million.. And that's bad.
Dhruv 06-07-2001, 12:39:PM Man Utd. got a big budget coz' they are the richest club in the world today and can spend much more than Real and not get into any debts....i dunno why they chose Veron when what they really need is a Good Defender.....

Yeah, i think so too. They need a defender, especially a full-back.
