07/03/2001. Real Madrid have completed the $67 million transfer of French international playmaker Zinedine Zidane from Juventus, according to reports in the Spanish media.
Juve general director Luciano Moggi met with Real president Florentino Perez in Lugano, Switzerland on Tuesday in order to finalize the details of the deal, which will be officially completed on Wednesday in Italy.
Dont know if it is entirely true, but holy crap.
ps - great to be back .... where is everyone else??
the -Russian Rocket- 04-07-2001, 06:13:AM do REal have any money? They ahd a debt of 200 million, and they signed Figo for 60... So Zinedine willl mean another 60 million.
that's bad.
Alenitchev 04-07-2001, 06:17:AM They already cut down their debit by selling some terrains in Madrid (about 50 mil. IIRC)
I think it would be a better, cheaper option to sign Rui Costa... I believe that Figo's and Zidane's personality will clash...
Help? 04-07-2001, 04:09:PM Zidane to Real? Hmm, if i would be Madrid manager, i would buy a striker, not midfielder, because Real alreday has Figo! And why do they need, two best midfielders in the world, when they need a better forward! As Alenitchev said, i think it would be better for them to buy Rui Costa too.

excuse me, but i think u just contradict yourself?
so shld Real Madrid buy a striker or Rui Costa?
anyway, Figo is a right winger though he can play anywhere in attack.
I dun foresee any problem having Figo and Zidane in Real Madrid's style of play.
flyer884 04-07-2001, 07:57:PM whats wrong with having 2 world class midfielders?

They spent all their money on midfielder's instead of forwards.
Woody_007 04-07-2001, 11:28:PM Who the hell needs world class strikers when you have two kick ass midfielders supplying the ball in deadly positions. Did any of you watch the UEFA Cup tournament??? Didnt you happen to notice the amount of easy goals that Portugal and France were getting??? Its easy to score when Zizou and Figo make three defenders look silly, leaving the strikers in a two on one.
Oh well .... Figo, ZiZou ..... Rivaldo is still better.
Woody_007 04-07-2001, 11:30:PM BTW .... where are all the old timers???

Silencer 05-07-2001, 12:58:AM Forget about Rui Costa, he's going to Milan as of today together with Inzaghi.
Like I said in another post, great asset for Real of course.

Whats wrong with Raul????.Hes one of the best in the world. And with Zizou and Figo delivering the ball to him they would only need to pplay with one striker.

Can't stop the rush... 05-07-2001, 10:42:AM They also still have a decent striker in Morientes. He will probably go up front with Raúl.

Yeah, but only Raul is not enough! They need more strikers, i didn't said that Raul is not very good striker, even if Morientes is good, but then when one of them will be injuried? They won't have a good strikers, that's why Real needs to buy a striker.
mikasalo32 05-07-2001, 05:32:PM They also got Pedro Munitis, hes a spanish international aswell as Guti who can play upfront, savio can play up front too,so i dont really think is a cause for concern.
Woody_007 05-07-2001, 11:23:PM DSH!! How are you??? where is everyone else??
And you guys are fully NOT listening. Let me try again. When your midfield has Figo on the left, and ZiZou in the middle, WHO CARES WHO YOUR STRIKERS ARE. Geez .... even Del Piero could put some goals in the net. (which he wont be doing now that ZiZou is gone) Savio (he plays RM or RF, not ST), Muntis, Raul, Morientes are all good enough. It pains me to say this, but Perez certainly knows what he is doing. I only hope Gaspart can focus on what Barca needs (maybe another defender and certainly a better goalkeepers coach) and not try to outdo Perez.
Nimreitz 06-07-2001, 01:09:AM I'm here, but my post don't indicate that I'm an "old timer".
Woody_007 06-07-2001, 04:45:AM BARCA STRIKES BACK!!
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) -- Argentine side River Plate sold star striker Javier Saviola to Spanish giants FC Barcelona for dlrs 22 million, the club announced Thursday.
The club had announced last week that it would not sell the 19-year-old despite the desire of the player to go to the European side.
However, following a special meeting of the River directors Thursday, club Vice President Alfredo Davicce said that the board had voted unanimously to agree to the transfer.
"We took into account the requests of the player and this is also good for the club," Davicce said, adding that all the directors were "sorry that we will no longer be able to see him play [here]."
Local reports indicated that River finally agreed to the transfer after Barcelona agreed to send the full dlrs 22 million more quickly to the Argentine side.
It is reported that Saviola will receive up to dlrs 2.5 million per year to play for the Catalan giants.
One of the hottest talents in Argentine soccer, Saviola is currently the star of the World Youth Championship tournament taking place in Argentina. The youngster has netted 10 goals in six games in a series of superb performances.
In addition to his numerous performances for Argentina's youth teams, he has also been called up for the senior side to compete in qualifying matches for the World Cup.
Saviola is set to join the Barcelona squad soon after Sunday's final of the youth cup, when Argentina plays Ghana.
His departure will mark the end of a transfer saga that saw the two clubs and the striker come close to agreement several times only to see the deal collapse at the last minute.
mmmm ..... time will tell. But Saviola and Rivaldo .... I like that.
BTW .... Nimreitz you are an old-timer!! :D
how are you??
Can't stop the rush... 06-07-2001, 10:26:AM Saviola is a nice pick up for Barça.
They also bought Fabio Rochemback from Internacional for £10 million.
They already added a £100 million buy-out clause to his contract.
