View Full Version : Network Games - How Do they Work ? tracertong 10-10-2006, 05:56:AM Anyone played a network game on previous version and how they work ? Thanks Parra Power 10-10-2006, 08:29:AM This should really be in the Older FM Titles forum, but I won't movie it because I guess it will be relevant in 07 too once the full version is released. Anyway, one player has to be the host (starts up the game, keeps the savegame, his computer runs it). The host has to set their computer to run as a server: Options -> Preferences -> "Run as Server" (under "Network/Internet") The host has to then give their IP address to other players (it's on the game status screen if you're not sure) so that they can join: Network -> Join Other Server -> Enter the IP It then works the same as a multiple-manager offline FM game. tracertong 10-10-2006, 09:49:AM Ah cool - thanks. Stotty 11-10-2006, 02:54:PM The ip on the game status was innacurate last year if u used a router. I had to get it from www.whatismyip.com or whatever the site is Áļéאָ 11-10-2006, 05:52:PM wont change coz the game is looking for the network connection IP of your system, which will always be the one of your router/youiptoconnecttourrouter Parra Power 12-10-2006, 01:43:AM My IP was right, despite the router. rpvankasteren 12-10-2006, 06:56:AM Shouldn't be possible. When using a router, the router takes on the global-IP given to you by your provider, and the router hands out local-IPs to the PCs connected through it. There's loads of same local-IPs, as all routers use the 192.168.1.*** range, so any online game shouldn't be able to connect to that one, and has to use the global-IP with the router routing the signal on to the right PC. Filipower 12-10-2006, 10:05:AM i just use hamachi:( works fine though:D Stotty 12-10-2006, 05:15:PM On mine it gave me the 192.168 blah ... Áļéאָ 12-10-2006, 05:18:PM instead of using stupid programs why not just open the router menus... simple Stotty 12-10-2006, 05:21:PM or...i could just click on the site i posted, and at the top of the page is your ip displayed. probably simpler for normal people... Filipower 12-10-2006, 10:55:PM i don't use stupid programs, and i don't have a router...i tried to play with a friend of mine and it wouldn't work and then we tried with hamachi and it's perfect...it's really a very good little program Fernandez 15-10-2006, 04:48:AM I use hamachi as well, but not yet for FM. Great small program. |
