View Full Version : Worst FIFA game EVER!

Let me just start by saying that I am loyal, die hard EA Sports FIFA fan. I have been playing since FIFA 2001 and I have loved every game that has been out since that time, with the obvious exception of the latest incarnation of FIFA. Now, onto the latest game... I have been playing since I bought the game last Tuesday and I have been NOTHING but frustrated with it. My biggest gripe of all is defense. I absolutely can not play defense in this stupid game. My players feel like they have stepped in tar or something. I always get burned on defense. I have even tried playing flat back in a defensive strategy, but still ALWAYS get burned. The AI just plays this ultimately frustrating game of "keep away" whenever they have they ball. I average about 10 tackles a game while the AI averages about 20+ tackles a game. The reason I can't make any tackles is because my players NEVER respond fast enough to catch the AI player. They are all turned around wrong and always over commit to one direction and get burned. They can NEVER catch back up to the play because, like I said before, it feels like all of my players stepped in tar! I have played 32 games to date and have not recorded ONE single friggin clean sheet! I mean this is ridiculous!

Very frustrated,
BillyK

Good words! There is some good stuff in the game but the gameplay is really bad.

i have mixed feelings personally the goal kicks and the unpredictability of the ball and gameplay is way better but the defense like u say BILLYK is ridiculous does feel like 1 of those nightmares where ure runnin but u aint gettin nowhere and for the amount of time and effort these people have they dont seem to do much ok they update a few faces add a few boots and kits big deal i do that myself however i hated fifa 06 when i first played it but with time and a hell of alot of editing i still find myself playin and enjoyin it till my fifa 07 is up 2 scratch :ewan:

A loyal die hard fan who's played every ea football game since 2001?

Now i don't want to rain on your moany parade however, Fifa's international soccer, fifa 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 2000 including there european and world cup versions, that don't make you a die hard fifa gamer.

*waits for the pes fans to start bitching about pes and being screwed over wah wah wah* Change the f'n record, you guys are never happy.

what the hell is your point here mate? I think EA Sports would beg to differ with you on this. I have purchased over 10 FIFA related titles from EA Sports over the last 6 years and NEVER purchased anything outside of EA Sports, so I think that qualifies me as a die hard customer...what makes you a die hard fifa gamer then, buba3d?

... maybe you should learn how to play defense rather than bitch about the CPU being better than you. We all had to adjust to the new style of gameplay, not just you.

You obviously aren't the FIFA die hard you think you are if the CPU can get 20+ tackles in on you.

ok just to clear things up, by die hard fifa gamer I simply meant that EA Sports FIFA titles are the only football games that I buy, period! I have never purchased anything from the competition. I did not mean that I am some incredible FIFA gamer. I am probably just an average talent gamer at best, but I always had a blast playing FIFA at professional difficulty level before this game came out. Now I am so frustrated that I am about to pull what little hair I have left right out of my head! I have tried playing at amateur level, but the AI still seems to always outrun me and burn me on defense.

Anymore blasts from this helpful crowd? How about maybe some tips on how to better play defense? That might actually help. MelvinSmiley's post was at least constructive because he offered me a tip...jeez!

I think that FIFA has many thing that could add to the game, in order tomake it better.
But they have made a hugh step in FIFA 07, it's a lot better than the previous FIFAs (to me).
PES/WE has his own attributes, we can't say that one is better than the other, they're just different... FIFA has better graphics, sound and ambientation; and PES/WE has better gameplay.
Every person, according to what wants on a football game, will choose ono or another.
See ya!

This is the first FiFa I've played and I've to say that I don't like the teamplay.

The only thing I like about it is that it has almost every league and teams. I escpecially like the the coach mode, I always play that :).

Waiting for PES6!

Yeah you gotta move the player switch to zero.

I had it up one notch and the CPU got the ball on a break at the midline and I had two defenders but they were on the other side of the pitch.

Did they both come over to pressure the ball? No.

Did one of them come over to pressure the ball? No.

I selected the defender closest to my own goal and tried to move him but I could not move him over to cut off the attack. The AI just kept moving him back and away from the play. The CPU got two steps inside of the box and blasted one top left corner to take the lead.

That was incredibly frustrating.

Auto switch is now at zero and I have not seen anything like that. You do have to control your defense as they are pretty brain dead on their own. Particularly if you use a team with a defense rating lower than 84 or so.

I love that defense is harder this year. I feel like I earn every clean sheet I get. In FIFA 06 I thought it was too easy to defend against CPU and I knew every game the CPU was most likely not gonna score on me. Could FIFA 07 be better? Of course, but I think 07 is a solid game.

One small thing that has helped my defensive gameplay so much is the jockey button.

If you are being attacked on the break, bring your closest defender towards the attacking player and hold the R2(or equivalent) button down, it will start to jockey and block the player from getting a shot in on goal or making a forward pass.

Doing this usually forces the attacker to slow down the play and most of the time they will pass it back, allowing your players to come back and help your defense.

I'm still getting used to the 'jostle for position' thing, but I have managed to use it quite effectively when crosses come into my box, with a quick dash around the target attacker will set you up in front of him and either put him off or get to the ball first for a clearance.

Another thing that may help is the mentality button(Select or equivalent). Setting it on Defensive will force your players to sit back and try to soak the attack, setting it on normal will be normal and setting it on Attack will make your defense push up to either catch the attack offside or mount pressure on the attackers, forcing them to play it back.

There are a few other little things that are effective, combinations of the tactics are usually helpful, too, and it doesn't hurt having a defense line of above 80. :)

I think more frustrating than your own defense play is the runs that your CPU controlled players don't make into space and how through balls are much more inaccurate as you move the ball up the pitch.

A defensive player can play a pinpoint throughball to a midfielder, but that midfielder can't do the same thing to an attacker. Seems to me so far that as the ball is carried closer to the oppositions goal, through balls become more inaccurate.

A huge plus is that I have not scored the same goal twice in 15 games played so far.

WOW!! This change really made major improvements in my defense! Thanks a lot MelvinSmiley! I have always known that I could change this setting, but I never did in the past because I have never had any problems with it. Changing it to zero in FIFA 07 certainly helped my defense a lot. I just played a game at Professional level with zero auto-switching and used a pressing defense tactic and finally got a clean sheet...3-0...LOL!!

You JUST PLAIN SUCK. Don't complain on how sucky the game is when you suck yourself.

I'm keeping clean sheet after clean sheet in world class mode. It's so freaking easy!!!!

Do you even use the Man Marking feature? Or the tactics options?

The key in defending is not the commit your defender and run after whoever has the ball.

All you have to do is set your man marking up. Get all your back 4 to manmark the strikers and wingers.

ALWAYS USE THE " call other player" button.

Just sit back, relax, do not commit your players. Track the player who has the ball, call another player in to corner him.

I assure you that you will get the ball without the AI even reaching your goal area.

The moral of the story is. Don't blame the game if you yourself suck in the first place.

This game does have alot of **** going on for it, but defending is perfectly controllable.

Its the best Fifa to date. Cant see why people keep going on about Fifa 99. Surely the freedom you have in this game and having to do more rather than having the computer do it for you is more satisfying.
Still I have some gripes like when my defender is favourite for the header but does nothing despite my controller clearance and the attacker scores. Yak!

Ummm I don't think so... maybe the PC version, but 99 on the PS2 was a great club edition with a lot teams including eastern European ones (prior to badges, sponsor logos etc.)

Now FIFA 2000... that was a total piece of crap. Remember Julie Foudy, remember the ridiculous high scores.

Anyway... most has been mentioned already about defending... but yeah use your pace control when infront of or around the opponent with the ball which makes your player stand his ground. Use your jostling control when running side by side. Don't always chase the ball and keep your shape... switch to your other defenders to mark those guys trying to sneak in on break. If you time your run right you can intercept passes to them and break up his attack.

I think all ea are missing is a ball that is it own character. They way it moves at the mo is like the turf is made out of glue or something.

Alos the ability to make mistakes like in PES. For example a miskick mistimed volley, mistimes clearance or miscontrol, that cant happen at the moment.

If EA can do this for next year we have some good competition on our hands.

They really need to add some weight to that ball at the moment its a bit too light. I played the demo and the ball could do with some weight.

I think next gen and i dont mean fifa 07 i mean fifa 08 there needs to be changes.

amazingly enough, you offer some very good advice amidst all of your insults towards me. I admit I sort of flew off the handle earlier when I made my original post (which I have since edited and removed the banter towards EA), but I was getting trashed by the PC and I was at my wit's end with the game! I don't think I SUCK though...at least I don't SUCK anymore thanks to the suggestions in this thread...

"A huge plus is that I have not scored the same goal twice in 15 games played so far."

Im sorry but there seems to be WAYYYYY to many stupid goals. I have the PC version of the game. So many of my shots hit the post only for my other striker to tap it in. I have seen so many of these goals that its gotten boring. I have scored some cracking goals, but the amount of tap in goals from goalie blunders or post hits is ridiculous.

Thanks for these tips!

What does 'Call Another Player' actually do? And, what button is it (PC, Logitech)?

will first let me start bt saying that you completely lost you g:amika: d:amika: mind to say that.
i have been playing the game for pc for about a week now and it depend on the level you play on.
and please don't try to talk smart about how you tried it all in defence couse you clearely didn't so i have 2 solution's for ya (it depends really on you to choose one of them)

first is either you play with a crappy club that have a crapy defenders and in that case you should change your club or thank god on what your crap club defenders are doing and shut your mouth

second one is that you are a lousy player by nature and you just couldn't take the fact that you are and you blame your defenders and the game developers on that and in this case thair is no hope for you young man

lol:amika::amika::amika:lol

no seriosly man you should get good deffenders for your team or play a more defend formation i mean like 5-4-1 or 4-2-3-1 or else

i play with madrid and i do a very good games deffending in semi pro and pro
and i get cleen sheet's too and be resonable i dosn't happen a lot in real life that you get a lot of cleen cheats you get a few throughout the season i think a number around 20 games per season is very good don't you think

Yeah, I am on PS2, so there may be a difference there. After my first game I played two more games back to back. In those two games I scored 2 goals in each where one stirker would shoot from an angle, the keeper would parry it to the feet of the other striker who would just tap it in. That was lame, but since those two games I have never had that happen again.

Maybe it's just random or maybe the AI is different on PS2, not sure.

You just don't know how to play (don't take this as a cliche as this totally fits your situation). I have full control over the game and the tackling is nothing like you say. I disagree with every word you say.
