View Full Version : Offtopic.. But Information on Operation Flashpoint needed..
the -Russian Rocket- 05-07-2001, 06:42:AM hey SCTW or others who played this game,.. I need some info on it.. I have some background info on what the idea is in the game and what to do, but I need other info..
How simple and easy the game is? Simple and easy are two different termins.. "Easy" is challenging, while "simple" is how hard it is to understand it.. Example: Delta Force 2 was a simple game -- you pick the armor and go kill the bad guys with a very easy graphics and interface, with many camera views on your guy (you can look from the screen, you can look on yourself from behind, from the top, etc.). But it was challenging to an extent, too... Other example: Hidden and Dangerous.. This game was not simple.. Not only you could not see yourself on the screen when it was dark, you also had only one view of yourself, and that's from behind.. So you could not really aim when you shoot.. And that made the game pretty challenging.. Also, what was challenging there was that the missions were TOO complicated, and nowhere I could find simplest keys, such as climbing up on a wooden stair....
So, how is the game made? What is your view when you are on a mission? How complicated are the missions? Do you have to control all your "teammates"? Are the teammates stupid?
need to know stuff like that.....
thanks in advance
Go to the website and download the demo to see for yourself. I think it is www.codemasters.com (http://www.codemasters.com) .
the -Russian Rocket- 05-07-2001, 06:48:AM download the demo? My modem is 26,000 bps at the moment, so it would take A WHILE to download it..
thanks, Joe, good idea!
*POUNDS THE PIANO* Am I bothering you? *stares*
(Sorry just imitating a teacher we had once)
Yea, it was a brilliant idea.
Oh yea, and Delta Force is not a good single player game. Delta Force (the series) is good for multiplayer. The single player gets boring and dull, with stupid AI and such. OF seems a lot better, and more squad based then DF (which seems more first person, solo mission).

the -Russian Rocket- 05-07-2001, 07:21:AM yes, the AI is dumb and stuff, but I still liked it as a solo player.. A paradox, but I never played the game on the i-net!
I am werid at games. Some games, which have NOTHING special, I like... Some, that are REAL popular, I don't (for example, Starcaft).. And I am not good at them, too.. Perhaps the FIFA series and Championship Manager series are the only games I am REALLY good at.. Others, no. But I like 'em, that's the point!
PS. but the idea you had was BRILLIANT! It takes me about half an hour to download a 1 megabyte file, but that was brilliant! Allright, you didn't know, I forgive you.
Ah, well in my 56k (28.8) days I would just let the download run over night, and then have a nice little demo to play with in the morning.
the -Russian Rocket- 05-07-2001, 07:27:AM i have like 100 viruses on my computer now, and one of them is when I leave the computer untouchable, it shows this "explorer -- this program has performed illegal operation" message in about a minute, and all the programs running are paused and stuff..... So I have to move my mouse occasionally so it would not appear, or press ctr-alt-del once when I leave, but that freezes all programs running, too.....
go figure!
Stevie B 05-07-2001, 09:54:AM Doesn't sound like a virus, more of a program conflict. If it happens when you leave the PC alone, it might be your screen saver kicking in and causing a conflict with Explorer. Try setting your screensaver to "none" and see if it happens. You might find that once the message pops up and you click OK, things will settle down and run happily. Explorer regularly crashes on my home PC and at work as well. I click OK and carry on as before, but all background programs now seem to be off.
If you do have some virus problems, download (I know, I know) a demo of one of the antivirus programs. In fact, there are a few free programs on the market that you can download and get regular updates.
If the problem is settings conflicts, try registry checker in system tools and use the oldest back-up of your registry. This may sort it.
leungtl 05-07-2001, 11:26:AM Operation Flashpoint is a rockin good game but you'll need a good PC to run it well.
I can't really tell you how it plays and stuff, cuz i've only got the demo!
But JUDGING from the demo, it is a rockin good game!
Get it now! :D You won't be disapointed.

iceboy 05-07-2001, 04:30:PM *singing* I just got cable, I just got cable..
Operation Flashpoint is truly an AMAZING game. By the way the AI is NOT dumb, sure its not perfect , but its not dumb. This game is pretty damn realistic, and i think we will be seeing a lot of games similar to this in the enar future. C&C Renegade, and Max Payne just to name a few.

the -Russian Rocket- 06-07-2001, 01:26:AM Stevie, there's no button ok, there's button "close" the program, and I press it all the time.. And it closes the Explorer for a few seconds... But then in about 30 seconds everything starts to work normally.. But that bugs be, and I cannot solve this problem for a while now so I kinda got used to it.. I had my screensaver to none, too.. Oh well..
SCTW: thanks...
By me saying "AI was dumb" I was refering to the Delta Force series.
I think the AI is pretty sweet, although in the demo they sometimes run right past you and don't notice you.
