View Full Version : FIFA 07 X360 is simply IMPRESSIVE-Review
Aragorn 27-10-2006, 05:15:PM Well, finally i get my copy today of this wonderful game. Being always a pes series fan, i really never care about the latest fifa´s, but now, and more on the 360, with the fail of Konami in his attempt on this console, i downloaded the demo and i said, pffff....really impressive, if they can arrange this and this, it can be awesome.
So, after to play a few games, i can say that FIFA 07 had win the battle against PES 6, almost in X360.
GRAPHICS (9,5/10)
What to say about graphics, really amazing, all the faces details, textures, t-shirts movement, skins, hair movement, all is awesome, from the minus perceptive detail until the more bigger one. Is cool to see how the players are getting sweat, dirty, along the game, and runs/move equal as his conterpartner in real life. Every player moves exactly identical as the real life one, like Ronaldinho, Roberto Carlos, Bekcs, Rooney, Villa, etc.... is awesome.
The stadiums are beatiful in this version, from Camp Nou to Bernabeu, for to put a couple of examples, exactly as the real ones, plenty of flags, banners, etc....are really impresive, overall when night is comming.
In Pes 6 you will find 8 stadiums, well, in fifa 07 you have this:
Old Trafford
Bernabeau
San Siro
Camp Nou
Anfield
Stamford Bridge
Velodrome
Calderon
St James Park
Amsterdam Arena
BayArena
Parc des Princes
Millennium Stadium
Azteca
Delle Alpi
Allianz
Mestalla
Gerland
New Wembley
Emirates Stadium (New Arsenal)
Veltins Arena
Olimpico
Olympiastadion Berlin
Aswell the cutscenes are nice, due they are improved from the demo, there´s not slowdown effect in goal celebrations and in replays, but still a bit choppy yet the tunnel cut-scene, but is not really important indeed.
GAMEPLAY (9/10)
This point is awesome, and is really updated from the demo. The tempo of the macth is identical to a real life macth, pace in some moments and frenetic in others. You can play using a lot midfields, passing back, looking for spaces until the goal arrives or you can go in an agressive way and use a lot the sides and counter-attacks for to smash the cpu. There´s no repeated schemes like in other fifa´s or current gen....the gameplay is totally free, and is nice to see how your game is looking great when you work hard to break the defence. And this happends with cpu assistence,,,is you disable it,,,you can imagine how free are you for to play.
The I.A. is really good, i saw on some reviews that is not enought good, but is not true,,,so,,,a couple of examples. When you have the ball, your team players are looking for spaces, aproching to you, or trying to take the back of his marker, there´s a lot of possibilities to do.
Another example that i can put is about a macth that i played At.Madrid - Barça, playing with Barça. Well, i scored 2 goals, but in the last 15 minutes my players was a bit tired and then Edmilson recibes a red card for a dirty tackle from behind, so i noticed that i didnt played very well....and derepeat...what the hell?? At. Madrid making me a lot of pressure, overall on the defence for dont to go with controlled ball...oh my god...Is Torres!!!, pressuring a lot to Puyol, he steal the ball, great play and he scores, cut-scene, he takes the ball and running faster for the kick-off. You can imagine after it the intense pressure that makes me At.Madrid until the end of the macth....pfffff.....i need a lot of passes and put back my team to defend the score in the last 5 minutes. Was really great to see it like in a real macth.
A point that all people knows, players movements and ball physics go in diferent ways, resulting impredictable movements of the ball...if you dont control well the ball, you can loose it and then the forward steals the ball, makes the counter-pass, but your midfield is well positioned and making a big enffort, he recovers the ball, waits a bit, and pass back to start again the play, etc, etc.....there´s infinite possibilities. But this impredictable rebounds of the ball are not so often in the final version (in demo were too much), becoming more balanced and real.
Goalkeepers plays well finally!!!, if they can arrive to the ball, they will achieve it, but when is a strong shot from a good position and in a real life goalkeeper cannot do anything, goalkeeper will cannot do anything to stop it....so there´s too amazing saves, and sometimes some post (this last thing dont happends so often, like in past fifa´s, thing that is great), like in real life too. All is well balanced.
Another point that makes this game so real is that players heigh and weight affects his gameplay......for example Thuram dont runs so fast as Puyol,,,,Xavi and Deco will have more control and passes success than defenders, you will notice the inertia, you will notice that players have real weight. They will go tired when the end of the macth is arriving, or when they runs so much, and exhausted Messi, that had run during 70 minutes will starts to sweat a lot, play bad, etc.....then you must to make a substitution.
So you have a lot of national teams, besides of all the teams from the 6 leagues, and special teams, like world stars, etc...that need to be unlocked.
All of this makes the gameplay near to perfection. I dont know what kind of retail version had tested the people from IGN, or what were they doing during the test,,,,but,,,they are totally outside of the real feeling of this game.
SOUND (10/10)
Perfect. Simply perfect. Crowds chants are awesome singing all the hyms, chors, etc, or reacting to an steal ball, to a goal, to a tackle, and to all the action of the game. Commentary are really great, almost, the spanish version, where 2 of the most important spanish commentators makes the game more exciting. But the thing that shock me is that between all the noise of the crowd and commentarist you can hear speaker megaphony saying "with the number 9.....Samueeeeell Etooooo!!......with the number 10....Roooooonaldinho!!", and after each name, the crowd reacts with a "ehhhhhhhh!!!!". Simply amazing, and this happends with all the started team. You can hear too by megaphony is your car is bad parked, if some children is lost.....etc....is really brillant.
EXTRAS (9/10)
There´s a lot of extras, from a great player editor, with a lot of options, and when i say a lot, i dont saying 5 or 6 kind of hairs, im saying more than 25 diferent hairs....lot of options on faces creation until you achieve the player that you want. There´s the espn feature that appears under your monitor, like in a sport magazine, with the latest news about football. You can do anything that you can imagine with your team scheme, changing players positions, if they defend more or less, if they go to this side of other, to change his back number, put a lot of gear on them, to change his boots, etc....
So, you can unlock extras as more balls, videos from the best goals from the 6 leagues, etc..etc....
Manager mode is excellent with infinte posibilites until arrive to 5 year.
And Multiplayer is great, there´s not lag, etc....
And many more things to discoverd....is a long game, plenty of options and that reflects exactly a football game. I recommend totally this game.
TOTAL score 9,3/10
If you have some question about the game, please, ask.
Take care

What??????????? Totally unacceptable! So far I am totally leaning towards FIFA.
Sounds really good Neo! I can't wait to get my filthy hands on a copy. From what I hear, at this rate Fifa will have a near perfect game by FIFA 2009! Good news. This will make Konami wake up and put out a very good game in 2008. Lets hope. It's overall great news for any football game fan...Each game challenging the other and forcing improvements to outdo the other is what we need!
nickclubman 27-10-2006, 09:52:PM Agreed with Neo, been playing the game all afternoon with my friends and this game has had us laughing, getting frustrated, angry. We were getting mad with the referee and shouting at missed chances. I scored a cracker of a lob volley from a freekick a little outside the 6-yard box, had me cheering like a real club had just scored on TV for real, stunning emotion!
Love this game. Just ordered Sky Broadband, so gonna be hooked up in 8-10 days! Can't wait to play peeps online and kick Valioso's as$.
NK.
Aragorn 27-10-2006, 11:19:PM I hope that your recieve your copies soon (is 31 Oct there in USA, true??),,,really it deserves the money. I cannot believe yet that is so real. Today my cousin had comes to my house to see the game in action, and he was atonished, like, it can be real....so i was playing a macth against cpu, and he was wacthing the macth and reacting like if he was wacthing a tv macth, awesome.
So if you have a big HD tv, then you will have alutinations, hehehe....
So, i hope that this great game makes Konami to think deeper in new versions, and that PES 7 will be a really oponent to FIFA and viceversa. Is not good when you have so clear in mind what game you will buy, because normally, the good thing is to think, pffff...i dont know what of them to get, i will take both because they are great. I think that the diference this year is that FIFA 07 for X360 is another game, completly different from the pc and ps2 version. And in the other hand PES 6 for X360 is really too much similar, for dont say identical, to the ps2 and pc versions.......the only diference is more resolution in pc, and a bit better graphics on X360, but this last version is plently of important lacks, like the editor, teams, stadiums, etc......So, now that Konami has released all the versions, i hope that they work hard during this next year and that we will have a great PES 7 for X360, and sure, another great FIFA 08 version for the same console.

You seriously do this? After all your posts throughout the build up to this game you've been back and forth between Fifa and Pro, waiting on opinions. Then, positive comments finally come in for Fifa full game which sways your decision to go for a rental; no wait, a soon to be stolen rental. Pathetic.
MasterM 28-10-2006, 04:49:AM I thought fifa was also a good game. I bought it and played the whole day online. Man its soo predictable and i gets exposed when playing against humans.
- 90% of your long passes arrive at your teammate no matter what.
- Online when you are in midfield you can simply press LT to trigger run your striker and then press high througpass. When peformed good its impossible to defend, because the players switching is slow and not logical. I ripped everybody on LIVE with this tactic.
- The throughpass is too powerfull, because its so scripted.
- Crosses are also scripted. The player who is supposed to get the ball magically runs towards the right position to volley it. A lot of times i can easily see who will get the ball, because that player is moving unrealistically to the ball.
- AI is acting so dumb. Most of the time they stand still so you cant counter attack quickly, so you end up pressing LT a lot of times to trigger run them!!
- Tactical attacking arrows don't work, they are just there for decoration?
- Passing isnt flowing, a lot of times my players pass too slow and they act so dumb by waiting for the ball instead of running towards it.
- Are the keepers superhuman in 1on1 or what? Maybe its me but i can never score when i am 1on1 with the keeper. I usually score from the rebound or chip shot.
Pes6 isnt great also, so its a bad year for soccer gaming on the 360 :nape:

Well, all depends of the level of the player. I had diferents feelings and i had to arrange my team depending who is my opponent, that´s the good point of FIFA 07, if you play ala arcade, without keep in mind tactics, outside, etc....then is difficult to win against human, as in real life, you have your way of to play, but sometimes you must to adapt your game depending of the oponent tactic.
- Long passes are well balanced for me, may be you will feel more confortable if you disable the cpu assistance, then you must to be more much acurate on this passes.
- Use the outside button each time that this happen. Is very common to see players using this kind of play, high throughpass. Stay alert when the midfield starts to run and see the sides...when you think that is the moment, press the outside button (mantain it), the defence will go forward, and the striker will be in outside. Anyway you always can edit yor formation and make a man to man marker, or simply, that your defenders dont go up so often. Put them back.
- If you use counter attack lot of times, and the run button, your players will get tired, and in the second half you will notice about this. One of the things that i use when my opponent use a lot long passes to break the defence or a too much fast game, is to change his rymth, with a more pace game, more short pases to get tired my oponent players.
- You can do a quick counter attack, as i say, there´s a lot of players that use this strategy in multiplayer game. Instead of use the run button, try long passes on the sides, use the wingers, or simply wait to the midfields and defence go for you, make diferent passes to go on and score in a counter-attack.
- Tactical arrows works for me, overall i noticed it when im defending our player in the sides.
- The time is essential in this game, a first touch pass can make a great diference instead of to control and pass. Timming is all in this aspect.
- On 1 - 1 vs the goalkeeper there´s a lot of option to perform success. Go for the goal and stay alert when the keeper go for you, when he is near, make a stop and go, you can stop, go to left or right, etc...then you had passed the goalkeeper. Another good technique is to use a lob shot in the right moment. Or simply, go for to goal line, and make back-center pass to your left or right when the keeper goes for the ball. Then you have another player that shots to the empty goalline. Anyway, in real life, good keepers stops a lot of this shots, you have Casillas, Van der Saart, Peter Cech, etc....
I think the same about PES6 and that is not a great day for football because there´s no competence in X360, but FIFA is the game, almost for me, and for all the experiences that im having with this game.
Ovny, it will be cool to play on friday 3th.....may be we should to organize some tournament or for to schule a fixed day or a couple of days for to play online. I had you added, aswell Miki23 (Valioso, what´s your tag??????), i will send you a message right now. Im sure that you are dying for a El Clasico game, hehehehe.....

Has anyone heard the main commentator guy randomly have an orgasm yet? I've heard it about 4 times now, usually when I send in a perfect cross, he goes 'OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!' ... makes me laugh every time.
Also, I have a rather strange question ... exactly how do you earns points to spend in the Fan Shop? At first I thought it was tied in with the acheivments, but I added up the total points needed for fan shop items and the achievment points come no where near to that needed. Also, I am about a quarter way through my first season in manager mode and it still states I have 0 points to spend, I looked through the user manual and it says nothing about the fan shop. Anyone have any ideas?

DoCouto19 30-10-2006, 04:08:AM wow, thats some really great info!! thanks a lot man
Just one more question though.
Are the Nike Vapors in the game???
Like the one Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldo, Saha, Ribery all wear?? The different colour oones??
And can you choose which shoes players wear in the game or can you only change the colour?? thanks man!!
Aragorn 30-10-2006, 08:38:AM I will take a look about Nike Vapors, but i think that not.
If you want to create a player, all boots and balls are locked (is the same like in current gen or past fifa). You need points to unlock them. If you want to edit a player, for example Ronaldinho, you have the boots that he uses, Nike Air Legend FG, and colour/colour boots. This way means that you must to play manager mode, or Challenge mode, etc, to gain points, go to the shop and buy boots, balls, extra teams and stadiums. Then you can use it when you want to edit/create a player.
Anyway, by default, all stars players, like Ronnie, Deco, Messi, Raúl, Ronaldo, etc...comes with real life boots.

Neovico, does Henry have vapors? In current-gen he has EA boots. Thanks in advance.
OrgulloVikingo 31-10-2006, 05:02:PM In addition to unranked and ranked matches, you can now play online co-op against any team. You can also play up to eight players in one match, with four vs. four matches supported.
Anyone try it? My question is whether you can control any player on the team or whether they give you 3 or so players in which you can switch between.
Stadiums are pretty awe-inspiring, and whilst there are only seven included with FIFA, they all look gob-smackingly good.
Please tell me the bold words aren't true. You have to unlock the rest?
EA have also now included six different commentary teams for FIFA too, which means that all players of the game will instantly feel welcome with their favourite football pundits commentating on the game.
Does this mean 6 different languages or what? I'm hoping they mean I can choose Eddie Myghten and John Hill or Tommy Smith as the commentators!

I must to try this cooperative mode...i guess that the first one that press to select a player is who controls this player, and if this player make a pass, the pass will be recieved by the other player, etc....
7 Stadiums??? No!!!! There´s 23 stadiums (all playables....i mean, if you play Madrid, you use Bernabeu, if you play Manchester United, you use Old Trafford, if you play Barça, you use Camp Nou, etc...etc...) plus Delle Alpi that you must to buy on the shop. Delle Alpi is the only locked stadium.
About languages,,,,well, my fifa comes entirely in Spanish, there´s not other option and i have Paco Gonzalez y Manolo Lama (from La Ser) as commentators, pure class. I guess that each version has his own commentators, but for that i try, i cannot select other language.....anyway....it will be absurd to hear the comments in French or Italian or other language if my favourite football commentators are in the game. So, for the english versions, i have not idea, but i guess that it will be the same than in past fifa´s like the spanish commentators.

Thierry Henry changed to Reeboks in the summer. Reebok boots aren't in FIFA2007, so he has EA boots instead.
