View Full Version : Ajax to play qualifying round for CL!!
Silencer 29-05-2001, 10:34:AM OOOOO yessssssss, finally after a few years of absence AJAX is back!!
They are going to play qualifying rounds for the Champions League but I'm confident that they will make it to the CL.
New players, new keeper and a lot of young talent should be enough to secure it otherwise i will be VERY disapointed.
The three strongest teams in the Dutch competition (PSV, FEYENOORD AND AJAX) to the CL, fantastic!!
FORZA AJAX!!! :D :D
Teletoonder 29-05-2001, 10:43:AM Well it was good to see that finally PSV,Ajax and Feyenoord are in the top 3 of the KPN Eredivisie. Last time that happened was in the season 1995/96. Hopefully Ajax reaches the Champions League, because next season will be the last one with 3 Dutch competitors :(
Amika 29-05-2001, 10:47:AM great to hear that they are back to CL just like Liverpool is going to CL also...

what does that mean!?
Teletoonder 30-05-2001, 03:01:PM Well, with competing in a European tournament a club can gain points for his country. The UEFA makes a list of all the countries, with the points every country gained in Europa. The first 3 can have 4 teams in the Champions league, the next 3 can have 3 teams in the Champions league etc etc. Holland is at the moment the number 6 in that list, just because Ajax won the Champions League in 1995 and played in the final in 1996. Since then, the Dutch team played horrible in Europe, only Feyenoord reached the 2nd round of the Champions League two years ago, and PSV reached the quarter final in the Uefacup this season, after beginning in the Champions league. Next season Holland loses the points Ajax gained in 1995, but because Ajax reached the final in '96, its just enough to stay on 6th place on that list of the Uefa. But in 2002 Holland loses that points also, wich will mean that we lose the 6th place, and fall down to number 7 or even lower (who will tell?). That's why next year will be the last time we have 3 teams in the Champions League, and also will be the first time PSV, Feyenoord and Ajax (the traditional top 3) are the three Dutch competitors.
Alenitchev 31-05-2001, 07:23:AM Portugal is also screwed up big time. From the last years, only Porto has managed to get good results... Benfica manages to be eliminated by Halmstads and was trashed by Celta 7-0 two years ago... Sporting is being a shame... lost to Vikings last year and managed to be the worst team EVER in the Champions League...
This year we'll have Boavista, who I predict to *maybe* win 4 points in the CL, Porto who must play in the second pre-round... might end up in UEFA again, for God's sake, and Sporting in UEFA cup, for a nice 1st round humiliating defeat...
Nimreitz 01-06-2001, 05:14:AM Without Jardel in Portugal and the entire Dutch National Team on Ajax :D, both countries are screwed.
But with Italian clubs sucking majorly, England should have a top 3 spot soon, so Liverpool, Leeds, Arsenal, and Newcastle can go through. Man Utd naturally will be relegated :)
Alenitchev 01-06-2001, 06:01:AM Porto arrived at the quarter finals of the UEFA cup w/o Jardel. He was important, but nowdays, with Drulovic leaving, he isn't so much important.
Teletoonder 01-06-2001, 09:14:AM Well, I think PSV has a big chance to come very far in the Champions League next year, at the moment PSV is to good for the KPN Eredivisie (1.PSV-83points, 2. Feyenoord 66 points). The young players they have now are some of the biggest talents in Europe (Hofland, Van Bommel, Vogel, Kezman) wich all can grow to be world class players. If PSV can keep this team together for the next two years, don't be surprised to see them play in the semi finals of the Champions league. But there's one BIG problem, PSV has to play the first home match 100 km outside Eindhoven, because of the PSV-Kaiserslautern incident. Ans for the first match the two most important players (Johann Vogel and Mark van Bommel) are suspended.
Can't stop the rush... 01-06-2001, 10:33:AM Is Cristian Chivu the captain of Ajax now???
