FINALLY I GOT MY Xbox 360 back from Repair and was able to tryout Fifa 07, My firts impression was how incredible the graphics were and then on the loading menu I can already see that the shooting in the game is the best I have seen in soccer gaming to date, it feels real and has logic to it, not like in past FIFA installments where I could have my back turned to goal and simply take a shot and have it go in the upper corner of the goal. Just to say it again, the shooting is better then past fifa's and even current Pro Evo's, it simulates the precision that it really takes in real life to get a great strike on target. (Also thee goalkeepers seem to be better as well) Also I like how the CPU also has trouble get a shot on target.
Then I got to playing an exhibition match, I immediately saw the difference but had one nagging feeling, that the players were not moving as freely as in the loading screen and that was frustratig me (they seemed to be limited), the players seemed to be like robots but then thanks to this forum and the wonderful people here that post, I realized that its exactly like Pro Evo, in that you have go to the settings menu and controller seting and move the assisted CPU slider and asssisted passsing all the way to zero (Or all the way to the left). WOW what a difference that made my players were cutting more precise and my passing was more on and controlled.
The AI is very interesting in like OVNY and LUVPES stated in past threads, it seems that you never play the same type of game twice even if you play the same opponent again and again....let me explain. It all depends on how you set up your formations and how you change your tactics within the game, the defenses move very well as well as the players seem to support the attack very well. They also tend to pick up on your attackin tendencies.
Scoring, the few times I got to score I felt the same excitement that I did when I purchased my first Pro Evo and saw how difficult it was to score and life like, and in turn celebrated enthusiastically because of how complicated it was to score and how when I did score it actually felt like an accomplishment.
To sum up in on the positives of the game, I feel that FIFA finally is getting it right and as I play more and more and get better at the game I know will discover more things about the game that I like as I did with Pro Evo, I can't wait to get online and get some matches, but first I have to improve.
Some complaints that I heard were about things outside the game which really don't bother me (Like More Leagues, Stadiums, Cuts scenes) b/c I know that FIFA will fix them, but complaints about game play such as the crossing, to me it seems pretty spot on, of course its hard to get a header in the game, its not that easy like in real life, maybe the headers can be a bit more powerful, but I think if we play more we will find the right way to get a perfect header, remember practice makes perfect. (Well actually thats something that bothers me, no practice mode.)
Finally what I like is that the game has, is that its not predictable, like in past FIFA you knew where to go to always to get a goal on the field or how when you did score the CPU came back through the middle of the field and score with ease.(Rubbish). All in all great game which will hold me over hopefully to next year. If you guys know anything else oabout settings type things to improve teh game let me know.

Nice raaffup! Glad you like it. Actually, yesterday, Robinho crossed to Ronaldo and Ronaldo actually attempted a header even though the ball landed where his foot would have been. I didn't expect that and it gave me more proof of very little scripting. It was very spontaneous. Love it! I'm doing manager mode now and am doing very well so I'll have to step it up to pro level for the next season. Anyway, I really can't understand all the bad reviews. I guess these were reviewed by non football people who had a quota/deadline, were handed this game to play once or twice and got fed up with it cause they weren't into it or didn't have the open mind or patience to dig in and understand the nature of football physics.

Your right OVNY, a great game cannot be reviewed by just a glance, I think people that reviewed the game (IGN) had a preconcieved notion of FIFA (Negative feelig towards the game) and they just decieded to slam it. But their loss. I am enjoying it, am belive me I can be just as crtical as the next guy but I have to give FIFA credit good game, with the potential to be a great installment in years to come, the only thing is I want to see how it plays online, we'll see I imagine good?.

I gave up on Fifa since I picked up my first WE/PES 2 years ago. I thought I never go back to fifa. Hated 2006 PS2/Xbox versions. I thought I was missing out on soccer games for years. Now I picked up this 360 version and it's not even close to previous fifa's. They started off the next gen phase with a bang.
Ohhhh, online? perfect. Lag free, easy to setup games. "I likee eets very nicee!"
This is the foundation for next gen fifa and it's solid. I'm already looking forward to next years.

Ricflair, your exactly right, it is a knockoff of PES's breakthrough innovations, but its what I always wanted:the innovations and gameplay of PES and the authenticity and graphics and great online play of FIFA, best of both worlds in my opinion. I am not dissing PES as it has given me great joy, but the truth be told PES has been on a stale mate for the past 2 years, in my opinion, still a great game but needs to give us a bit more in where it lags, i.e. graphics & online play (A lot of lagging!!). I am not saying I will not be picking up Winning Eleven in January when it comes out in US but just saying that FIFA is catching up, big time!

Gamertag: raffupperv12, won't be up and running until thursday online. Have a business trip coming up.

I agree REAL MADRID FIFA is catching up bigtime, lets not forget what they are catching up on tho, its not the whole game its only part of it and that was the gameplay and ball physics, PES dominates there, but it fails BIGTIME in every other area in the game, PES provides a realistically free feeling world to play football in, but that world is in fairyland, a drab, blandy, boring one.

Now as far as FIFA07 360 goes replace that noddy world with reality, and a vastly improved physics system, along with some style and you end up with not only a catch up, but an overtake, PES's shamefull next-gen title was a foot on the brake, while FIFA had their bigfoot on the gas, its easy to see, i really really like this game, there are things that can be improved certainly but the more you play this game the better you get at creating that freedom in an exciting enviroment, PES has to boot it hard for next year, it can be their only excuse for a poor showing, its a good gauge on PES's future.

SYMO,
I agree on every level what you said, especially about playing the game more is how you get more freeedom. The more you play the more you improve, but not in that arcade way as other games were in the past, b/c then all you had to do was play the game a bunch of times to see where the tendencies are in the defense so you can pretty much score everytime, thats what PES always had (NO TENDENCIES) and what FIFA is obtaining, no tendecies in the game (Or if any very few) every match feels different; even every attack seems different, last night I played Liverpool vs. Werder Bremen and I saw some space on the right side and attacked it but a minute later that same space was not there anymore and I had to be more creative and alert to find new gaps, just like in PES and in Real Life. I like the direction that FIFA is taking hopefully it keeps that momentum for next year and keeps PES more on its toes so that they keep up as well, so we can have 2 great football games to choose or even play.

I take my hat off to Fifa too. I have been boycotting them for a few years because their gameplay, especially ball physics were shyte. I always felt as if I was being held back. With this 360 version, I feel pretty free. Still needs work but the foundation is there and I'm sure it'll be easy to fix the gameplay for next year. At least they won't spend the whole year developing an engine. They've done that and now hopefully they can spend a year maxing out gameplay, adding leagues, etc.

Don't forget graphics, when I see games like Gears of War and Mass Efeect, I know this game can look a hell of a lot better, at least add better textures, when I zoom in on the soxs the cloth texture is not there, don't belive me? look for yourself and if you have a Madden game or NHL 07, zoom in on their sox and and unis and you will see a huge difference, just that little thing can add a lot to the graphics, making a more realsitic look.

I totally agree with you. I give the GFX an 8.5 I've seen the crowd in NHL 2K7 and it makes ours look very bad. I am not totally convinced by the graphics. I've read many people rave on and on about them but to me it's not overly impressed. But then again, they rushed this game anyway. At least next year, they'll have no excuse. Now that they have the foundation, they can build upon it. By the way, I keep hearing about GOW, I hear it has the best GFX ever seen. Have you played it yet? I'm waiting for my copy from Gamefly (C)

Mate, saying that graphics in GoW are best ever seen is understatement. It is THAT good!!! Every other game now looks like crap... (gameplay is awesome too)

I've seen better graphics out of the 360 than GOW, its not as impressive as people want to make it out to be. Sure its better than FIFA's graphics but there are other 360 games that look just as good and sometimes better.

Let me state first of all that there is a different approach to different art styles. Sure, GOW is the best looking game that is set in a war torn world, but thats as far as I will go with it.

As for what games, remember what i said above about different art styles.

Kameo, DOA4, NBA 2K7 and Viva Pinata. Maybe I just prefer games with a little color instead of a bunch of greys, tans, and browns.

Oh and don't forget like some people *cough OVNY cough* that this is just my opinion and only take it as an opinion.

Sorry but I sooooooooooooooooooooo beg to differ on NBA 2K7...IMO, horrible graphics on the power of the 360...2K6 was better.

For me it's about the textures, I want to see cloth look like cloth, I want to see metal look and reflect like metal, see transparent plastic, glass, wood etc...etc....etc...etc....

This is a good point actually. It's all relative. But I think people judge graphics pound for pound. For example, they might say that GOW does better at textures than any other game. Viva pinata doesn't hav emuch textures since it's sort of cell shaded in a way, flat. Very interesting graphics though. I also think people look at GOW, it's architecture, trees, etc. and it resembles real life unlike other games. Also, how complex the lighting, shading are. So far nobody has contested GOW's graphics. Everyone agrees it's the best graphics so far. I haven't played it, YET...

2K6 looked better, what on earth are you talking about? In 480p or lower you couldnt even barely tell the difference between the xbox version and the 360 version, 2K7 is not like that. Here is proof http://www.gamespot.com/features/6140621/p-3.html

Forget the crap crowd, cheerleaders, mascots and other low poly characters and focus on just the players, clothes, court floor, etc.

When I say 2K6, I am just talking about the player models, nothing else

but lets shall we.....the court is weak, NBA live's courts look way better, 2K's wood textures do not look good from a zoomed out angle (gameplay wise) not to mention the colors in the "paint" under the basket, has this weird, blurry look, just doesn't look realistic, now the player models?, I can't complain much about the uniforms and sneakers but the models themselves IMO took a step back from last season, the skin also has a blurry look to it, no where as sharp and detailed as 2k6, the whole game when zoomed out has this tad smudgy blurry look, not to mention some of the faces and hair on the players especially white players are off.

as far as graphics I would have to give NBA live the nod this year in basketball

Best looking games I've played, in no particular order=

Resident Evil 4, PS2
Call of Duty 2, 360
Chaos Theory, PS2
God of War, PS2
Halflife 2, Xbox
Far Cry, Insticts, box

LuvPES, fair enough but IMO 2K6 as a whole looked like an xbox game and not a 360 game whereas at least 2K7 looks more like a next-gen game. But now that I think about it, NBA 2K7 does not look as good as I was thinking and I don't even know why I stated it. :chew:
