View Full Version : UEFA Champions League First Knockout Round Draw
tracertong 14-12-2006, 03:17:PM The draw for the UEFA Champions League first knockout round will take place on Friday from 12.00CET.
Fascinating ties
Among the eight group winners and eight runners-up who will be in the hat at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, are the three most successful clubs in the history of the competition - nine-time winners Real Madrid CF, six-time champions AC Milan and a Liverpool FC side who lifted the European Champion Clubs' Cup for a fifth occasion in 2005. Holders FC Barcelona are among the second seeds along with two other teams who have twice been kings of the continent, FC Internazionale Milano and Porto.
Draw conditions
The draw respects the following principles:
* Clubs from the same association must not be drawn against each other.
* The winners and runners-up of the same group must not be drawn against each other.
* Group winners must not be drawn against each other.
* Group runners-up must not be drawn against each other.
* All group runners-up will play their first-leg matches at home.

SouthAfrica fan 14-12-2006, 06:32:PM I dont know if you guys noticed this but out of the 8 groups, english clubs have finished top in four of them, ital france germany and spain clubs have come first in one each, seems like the english are dominating it, i cant wait to see if theyre still there after the next round
Filipower 14-12-2006, 07:08:PM Chelsea-Porto(6)
Virgo 14-12-2006, 07:44:PM Porto should have pushed Arsenal at their stadium. Now and even though they're playing well I can't see them getting to the quarters.
Vedran-10 14-12-2006, 07:57:PM I want Milan. If not them, then Bayern.
Milan are more beatable than ever, and Bayern are not in their best form either.
Just not Lyon, please.

Wtf are you on about, the draw isn't made until tomorrow.
Man Utd will get Real Madrid, its fate. Its destiny that Ruud will have to take a last minute penalty at Old Trafford to decide the tie....

MaestroZidane 14-12-2006, 08:58:PM I will be lighting some candles tonight so Barca draw Lyon....

Filipower 14-12-2006, 09:23:PM dude. shut up.
solaimaa 14-12-2006, 09:26:PM bring on arsenal, undoubtedly the easiest of all first round opponents given their current form.
wouldn't mind drawing milan either, they are really struggling. liverpool, well, it depends on which liverpool shows up to play. they either really suck or are really good, so it's a gamble.
don't want manure or lyon, would be happy with milan or liverpool, would be overjoyed with arsenal!

ogsimon 15-12-2006, 11:35:AM Does that guy that Adriano destroyed still play for Valencia?
solaimaa 15-12-2006, 11:40:AM damnit, didn't draw arsenal. oh well, my man former barca star PATRICK KLUIVERT will make sure PSV finishes you guys off.
as far as liverpool go, bring em on! they're hardly in any sort of good form and if arsenal can beat them 3-0, so can we! but it's gonna be tough. CL winner 04 vs CL winnter 05! if the real liverpool shows up, it's gonna be really really tough.

u should remember that the game will be in fabuary and thats when liverpool really come to life.
all of benetizes teams start off badly then grow strong as the season goes on, it will be a though one, but i think benitez will find a way to beat u guys.

ogsimon 15-12-2006, 12:54:PM Hopefully Diaby and Lauren are back by February
TOON ARMY 15-12-2006, 12:56:PM If Liverpool can hold out at the Nou Camp they can win the tie at Anfield. The atmosphere can get to teams as seen in 2005.
Ties to be played February 20/21 & March 6/7
FC Porto v Chelsea
Celtic v AC Milan
PSV Eindhoven v Arsenal
Lille v Manchester United
AS Roma v Lyon
Barcelona v Liverpool
Real Madrid v Bayern Munich
Inter Milan v Valencia
------------------------------------
very intresting each one of those games is worth watching. can't wait for liverpool v barca as much as i hate liverpool i want to see them win.
the best games in bold
Vedran-10 15-12-2006, 01:09:PM Not a great draw, but it could have been worse.
Roma
Help? 15-12-2006, 01:58:PM everytime that an english team (whatever club or NT) underestimates a portuguese team, portuguese win. so watch out chelsea!
What's the difference though? Chelsea is like 51% portugese anyways.
The general director of Porto is getting pretty cocky saying that they will beat Chelsea for sure. Arrogance is not the greatest way to fight Jose.
why does everyone fear Lyon i wouldn't mind if we drew them.
dipset 15-12-2006, 02:18:PM man WE have the best master mind tactician in Jose Mourinho, im sure he knows how to handle his old club, but it will be strong test just like all the other games, i hope Manu lose to lille :)
Bummy_JaB 15-12-2006, 03:12:PM Anything can happen in the WWF I mean Uefa Champions League Final. It's all knockout but I have to say Barc vs Liverpool and Madrid vs Bayern are the best matches of the round.
Deisler 15-12-2006, 03:46:PM Fvck, i hate playing Capellos teams
Hepoas 15-12-2006, 03:52:PM Ok, now im think Liverpool its out :|
Biebrich 02 15-12-2006, 04:03:PM The english teams have gotten quite easy draws, except of liverpool. Who can stop england? four teams in champions league, each of them winner of their group, three teams i uefa cup, each of them winner of their groups. That IS scary!
goal_machine84 15-12-2006, 04:11:PM Great draw i must say...Bayern-Madird and Liverpool - Barca r the matches that r totally made for this kinda competition...closely followed by Inter-Valencia and Roma-Lyon
If Liverpool can hold out at the Nou Camp they can win the tie at Anfield. The atmosphere can get to teams as seen in 2005.
But they couldn’t do it against benfica at anfield. I think it depends on which Liverpool side steps out to play against Barca they can be really good at times but other times they can be just Liverpool. I think if an aggressive and very defensive Liverpool steps out to play against barca they can go through.
shokz 15-12-2006, 05:15:PM Ferguson will find a way to **** it up and even opt for a 4-5-1 at home.
WilliamFAlmeida 15-12-2006, 08:41:PM Will there be a draw for the next round too? Or is it all already bracketed?
If so what does that look like?
night 15-12-2006, 08:51:PM why does everyone fear Lyon i wouldn't mind if we drew them.
Because they are capable of thrashing anyone if they're on form.
Filipower 15-12-2006, 10:12:PM Chelsea-Porto(6)

SouthAfrica fan 15-12-2006, 10:38:PM damnit, didn't draw arsenal. oh well, my man former barca star PATRICK KLUIVERT will make sure PSV finishes you guys off.

your actually a joke, there is no way PSV even have a chance against us. They're probably the worst team in the draw, no offence but im just being honest
MaestroZidane 15-12-2006, 10:45:PM Some people are saying its Lille... i personally think that all teams are dangerous this far in... specially since the games will be in late february, and by then anything can happen to all teams. Injuries **crosses his fingers and thinks of ManU** or good stranfers are thing to look at in the coming weeks. The picture will be clearer in february, then we will see who is actually the weakest team..
Bobby 15-12-2006, 10:50:PM Liverpool will beat Barca, probably like 5-0 if they keep all 11 men.
Gerrard will score a hat trick, and Crouch will score two.
Puyol vs Crouch =
Crouchy4tw.
Gunnersgoal22 15-12-2006, 11:39:PM Yes, PSV... either them or Lille would have been good. Haha Mourinho goes back to Portugal
I'm also glad that 2 teams out of Bayern, Madrid, Lyon, and Roma will be out.
The best draw of all is Barca-Liverpool even though I can't see Hypia and Carragher keeping up with Ronaldinho and Giuly.
yoyo913 16-12-2006, 12:31:AM Will there be a draw for the next round too? Or is it all already bracketed?
If so what does that look like?
same question
Johnny_Big 16-12-2006, 12:50:AM Will have another draw I think.
MaestroZidane 16-12-2006, 12:53:AM there is a draw after these games
Knockout phase
From the last 16 until the semi-finals, clubs play two matches against each other on a home and away basis with the same rules as the qualifying rounds applied. In the last 16, group winners play runners-up other than teams from their own pool or nation, while from the quarter-finals on the DRAW is free.
Tough draw for both Liverpool and Milan. And both are going through. (H)
d3adly 16-12-2006, 01:10:AM i hope ferguson doesn't **** around with the tactics, as we should be able to go through to quarter-finals easily this time.
night 16-12-2006, 02:12:AM Edit: Nevermind. :p
MaestroZidane 16-12-2006, 02:13:AM I guess my post is not enough, specially when I post a direct quote from the uefa page.. :boohoo:
night 16-12-2006, 02:14:AM Oops :$
Internazionale 16-12-2006, 02:31:AM pleased with the draw.
Respect for Valencia. They can be a tough opponent.
Dream Team 16-12-2006, 03:09:AM I can't complain because it could have been worse but the only English team I wanted was Arsenal. Unlike Wenger, Benítez knows how to play against Barça.
Bobby 16-12-2006, 08:56:AM I can't complain because it could have been worse but the only English team I wanted was Arsenal. Unlike Wenger, Benítez knows how to play against Barça.
Wenger was beating Barca for almost 75 minutes down a man (his starting goalkeeper) with a patch work defense.
Had Arsenal had 11 men, Barca would have been shat on.

If Lehmann hadn't brought Eto'o down, you wouldn't have been ahead at all.
But yeah, Wenger was really beating us. You defended for the whole match with a few solo efforts from Henry. You really whooped our ass there.
The match is 90 minutes. 2-1.
SouthAfrica fan 16-12-2006, 11:31:AM the sides name is arsenal not wenger
Dream Team 16-12-2006, 04:43:PM Wenger was beating Barca for almost 75 minutes down a man (his starting goalkeeper) with a patch work defense.
Had Arsenal had 11 men, Barca would have been shat on.Barça scored the first goal.
Lehman couldn't stop Eto'o and Rijkaard totally owned Wenger with the substitutions. Get over it.
your actually a joke, there is no way PSV even have a chance against us. They're probably the worst team in the draw, no offence but im just being honest
That's exactly why you drew Portsmouth 2-2 today. Just because you got to the final last year doesn't mean you'll get there again.
Remember how good you were in the Champions League before last year? :-puke:
solaimaa 17-12-2006, 03:39:AM your actually a joke, there is no way PSV even have a chance against us. They're probably the worst team in the draw, no offence but im just being honest
psv is worse than lille? hahah you're an idiot.
let's compare your two teams, shall we:
Arsenal: played 18, won 8, lost 4, scored 29 goals, conceded 15.
PSV: played 17, won 15, lost 1, scored 46 goals, conceded 6.
i know the two leagues are quite different, but those are pretty impressive stats. it's not like you're on some hot streak in europe either, your CL campaign has been pretty mediocre so far given the group you were in.no way psv even has a chance against you? hmmmmmm those numbers and your stats beg to differ.
Arsenal fans I wouldn’t get extremely confident PSV is no walk in the park. But I can already see arsenal scoring one goal and putting 10 men behind the ball for the rest of the fixture, but this time they will get caught out.
Help? 17-12-2006, 04:44:AM Get over it already, it's not like Chelsea was playing any different in the first half against United.

Help? 18-12-2006, 01:22:AM I think Barca has this one easy. So what if Benitez was able to beat Barca in the past with a different team? Keegan was able to beat Fergie in the past as well, what does that mean?
Barca has too much quality for Liverpool and this recent run where Liverpool scored 11 goals and conceeded 0 in 3 games is only temporary. They will lose soon and be brought down back to earth.
d3adly 18-12-2006, 01:35:AM My picks:
