I am pretty much ignorant when it comes to computer gaming. When I try to download any patches a message appears saying that the file is not a valid jewelcase (part of the cd creator program) document. Does anyone know what is happening?

Give me an example of what your downloads are called. It looks like your computer is trying to open the files you downloaded with the wrong program. Most patches for Fifa games are called "xxxxxx.zip" (replace x by anything), and should be opened with Winzip.
