I have been playing FIFA2000 for a year, I play world class and I´m pretty good. Now I bought FIFA2001, and I am a bit disappointed... It is almost impossible to score! The only time I manage to score is when the player is really, really close to the goal (which is not very often). Most games end up 0-0 (the "computer team" can´t score either...), and it is quite boring to play these kind of games. Does anyone have any tips on how to score easier? I have been trying the best teams and switching between every level (the amateur level doesn´t make it easier). The shots are so damn weak, not even the best players are able to score from outside the penalty area... Any ideas?

Go to your fifa 2001 folder.
Edit the file aimain.ini

Look for this line:

BALL_AIR_RESISTANCE_XZ = 0.0125


Change it to(Note the numbers):

BALL_AIR_RESISTANCE_XZ = 0.0075

Now you can score from outside the penalty box. Using 99/100 of the power bar. Make sure powerbar is not in red color.

Your troubles puzzle me. I've had the game for two days and find you can score from all sorts of spots. Even 35 metres out! But maybe it's because I've got the north american engine and they've modified it a bit, I understand. They probably already made the change suggested in the earlier reply.
I'd also suggest you play in tower camera mode and rely more on a buildup than spring and skill moves. And it's a lot easier to do that playing mostly out wide and using lots of one-touch through passes.

I will try that editing tip, I've yet to score from outside the box.

But here are a few tips of my own to help you.

The Q key can make wonderful passes into space anywhere not just up front,i've won Champions league games by as much as 4-0 on world class level, you just need to know how to go about playing against them,

firstly:
you should download the camera adjuster that someone put on this site about a week ago, it is the tele cam but much further out than the game lets you adjust it too, and once you can see better it really helps.

secondly, play at the slowest game speed.

Use the move Manchester United use a lot, its a triangle move they use in midfield on the wings, where you use the Q button to 'give and go' you work it so you pull their defenders out and then pass into the space, remember if you pass back the defender follows the ball and then you can pass forward to the winger who then has lots of room to run down the wing and get the cross in, always use the 'w' sprint button.

I find most of my goals are scored from crosses to a header, get your wingers right down the flanks then get your crosses into the box over the goalie so he cant grab it, and almost ever time your striker will score with a header.

If you can get the tackle 'd' button and use the ctrl button to get at their strikers before they run away from you they really have no imagination to score other than on the break.

and finally, FIFA is a long season and 3 difficulty levels arent really the right balance to get a good close season, I find i have to play on pro level and then play so many world class games to make a real challenge of it, playing away games on world class for example makes it seem more real, as in real life away games are always harder.

Initally i thought this game was awful , but after playing the demo a lot i got to see just how subtely improved it is, it could well be the best game yet, I never thought i'd say that 2 weeks ago when i first played the demo

Thanks for your tips. I am starting to like the game more, and now I have even managed to score a couple of times... The easiest way to score seems to be when one of the wingers run down close to the corner, shoots the ball high outside the box and then a striker does a bicycle kick... Strange though, I still cannot shoot a straight one
from just outside the penalty area...
Playing away games on world class level? Good idea! It would be great if EA made differences between home and away games for next year, since there are many teams in real life playing great at home but never win away. / bowied, sweden

Unfortunately I can´t download the fix to the Tele Cam view - for some reason my computer doesn´t allow me... Too bad I guess, I would really enjoy having it. I don´t like the views in this game, either you get a close-up on the players which makes it too difficult to play (you can´t see your team mates!), or you get too far away and the players are too small... When it comes to this, FIFA2000 was much better.

Its odd that you can't download the camera angle, but try this instead it might work-

go in your fifa 2000 folder:

C:\Program Files\EA Sports\FIFA 2000\data\cmn\be

and look for the file called "camera.dat"

this is the file for the camera views, copy that file and then go into your FIFA 2001 folder and in the same named folders in that game, replace the camera.dat with the one from FIFA 2000.

P.s i'd actually drag the fifa 2001 camera.dat to your desktop just in case it doesnt work and you need to put it back.

By the way, the playing away at world class level seems to make the game just the right difficulty setting for me, it also makes the champions league games really exciting, as it adds to the having to get a good result away from home extra important, by the way, if you ever get to the final, try playing one half pro and the 2nd half world class.

I just tested it to see if the camera file from fifa 2000 would work in 2001 and sadly it doesn't http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/frown.gif.

What exactly is the reason that your computer won't let you download the camera fix? is it cos you don't have winzip to open it or you have a virus protector or something?

If you leave your email address here i can email the already opened file so you don't need winzip, if you want? it really depends why you can't download the file.

the game is 10 times better with this camera fix, and the great thing is, once you've put it in the game you can still adjust it when you play, to make it even lower and further out.
