1-2 FT
Drogba
Adriano, Quaresma
(Y)
Shock of the round so far, with the Portuguese giants causing a major upset in London after clinching the passport to the next round thanks to an exquisite finish by Ricardo Quaresma in the dying seconds of the game.
After Porto had taken the lead by the half-hour mark through Brazilian Adriano's close range shot, Chelsea's Didier Drogba pounced back after only 7 minutes with a thunderous header to grab the equalizer.
As the second half went on both teams had their scoring chances dispite Chelsea's dominance throughout, but the deadlock wasn't broken until a dramatic late effort by rising star Quaresma puts Stamford Bridge on mute.
not @ UEFA.com
nevertheless, feel free to post your predictions :jap:
this is gonna be one good game. too bad i cant watch it. i wouldn't want to go through on 0-0 and im sure the boys will play this game the way they play every game, which is to win. Porto are a good team they can pull of an upset but we need to focus at home and Stamford Bridge is a fortress not an easy place to get an easy result.
my prediction
2-1
Drogba & Lamps - Gonzales
INFESTA 06-03-2007, 08:35:AM Won't be able to watch the match, as my own team is playing tonight. We're pretty confident but I have little faith in Jesualdo's boldness to play for the win.
Don't think the result will have more than a 1 goal difference, with Chelsea likely winning 1 nil.
Fortunately the players won't read this, so FORÇA PORTO!!!!! (Y)
Da Kid 06-03-2007, 09:48:AM easy win for chelsea.....fcuk abramovic
K3nzo 06-03-2007, 12:46:PM Go Porto!!!
It's still possible! 2-2!!!
RuiCosta_10 06-03-2007, 01:19:PM Chelsea 2 - 0 Porto
Drogba to score both, first an header, second a counter attack.
::shinji:: 06-03-2007, 01:40:PM Mourinho's gonna be massacred by the media if Porto goes through
SCP19O6 06-03-2007, 02:13:PM Since Portugal doesn't need the points: GO CHELSEA!!
After all, Chelsea has almost as many portuguese as Porto.
Paulo Da Silva 06-03-2007, 03:36:PM whats teams Sporting playing today????
Asshole
Tosiek 06-03-2007, 03:54:PM I predict the same result as Mr. Didy.
Shame I can't watch any of those four matches which will be played today. Damn Public Televison who stinted money on rights to broadcast games (Tuesday and Wednesday). So I left with only one game on two weeks.
I would give those mother****ers a lesson but I can't.(6)
Johnny_Big 06-03-2007, 04:14:PM Go Porto, there is a chance.
I really believe in a overtime, and with Porto scoring on it...
1-2 (after OT)
Drogba
Quaresma
Pepe
MaSsiVe 06-03-2007, 04:46:PM yeah Johnny, that's our plan B (H)
Probable Teams
Chelsea
Petr Čech; Lassana Diarra, Michael Essien, Ricardo Carvalho, Wayne Bridge; Claude Makelele, Frank Lampard, Michael Ballack, Arjen Robben; Didier Drogba, Andriy Shevchenko.
Porto
Helton; Fucile, Pepe, Bruno Alves, Lucas Mareque; Paulo Assunção, Raul Meireles, Lucho González; Ricardo Quaresma, Lisandro López, Hélder Postiga.
... this according to UEFA.com, but I hope Jesualdo starts Cech and Adriano instead of Mareque and Postiga.
either way, let the ******* match start already :bob:

MaSsiVe 06-03-2007, 07:03:PM OMFG Ricardo Costa is gonna start, we're ******* doomed :kader::kader:
lineups:
Chelsea
* Petr Čech
* Ashley Cole
* Claude Makelele
* Michael Essien
* Ricardo Carvalho
* Andriy Shevchenko
* Frank Lampard
* Didier Drogba
* Michael Ballack
* Arjen Robben
* Lassana Diarra
Porto
* Helton
* Ricardo Costa
* Pepe
* Marek Čech
* Ricardo Quaresma
* Lucho González
* Lisandro López
* Fucile
* Bruno Alves
* Raul Meireles
* Paulo Assunção
so we're gonna play Costa as left-back, Marek as left-winger and Lisandro will be our striker? great! :rolleyes:
why does Jesualdo have to invent in a match with such importance, I'm seeing Emirates all over again...
Vinnie Jones 06-03-2007, 07:17:PM Ricardo Costa :nape: Jesualdo what the hell are you thinking? With that said Ricardo Costa will score the winner in the 90 min of the game (H) Força Porto although i like Mourinho :mexican:
MaSsiVe 06-03-2007, 07:21:PM I'll take that ending Vinnie (H)
and yeah...
...FORÇA PORTO!
:rockman::rockman:

MaSsiVe 06-03-2007, 08:39:PM :lui: 0-1 HT :lui:
great first half-hour by us, but these last 15 minutes were very hard to stand.
Assunção is having an incredible match, Lucho, Fucile and our CBs have been very good so far too.
I'm nervous as ****, hoping we pull the best off our little ball possession in the second half.
I believe! :sun:
Vinnie Jones 06-03-2007, 08:45:PM Parece que tinham um olho no burro (Ricardo Costa) mas esqueceram se do cigano :bob: Cool finishing by Quaresma. Overall Porto´s team has been great and Jesualdo is beating Mourinho in the tactical battle but let´s wait for the second half.
Has pasion1 been sleeping? With this kind of form Fucile can easily surpass Forlan as best uruguayan player ever :fool: :brow: Kidding :p
ninobomba 06-03-2007, 08:49:PM is wason renteria in the bench?
ShearerM4 06-03-2007, 09:02:PM so... ****break Robben equalises. Pathetic dive from him earlier... wish he had seen red for it.
Vinnie Jones 06-03-2007, 09:42:PM Helton 2 Porto 1 Good run by Porto but Chelsea deserved it with their second half display although Helton did make things easier.
Johnny_Big 06-03-2007, 09:44:PM Chelsea were lucky, and after what I saw, I hope Chelsea doesn't win this CL. They didn't play anything special, and may have gone through because of Helton's exhibition.
Porto have nothing to be ashamed...great display!
MaSsiVe 06-03-2007, 10:03:PM out of all the times he could have failed, Helton had to pick tonight :nape:
he's only to blame for the first goal though...which changed the match completely, we were looking very solid till then.
oh well, congrats to Chelsea anyway...
:(:(
dipset 06-03-2007, 10:16:PM very happy, Queresma gave me a heart attack, the ref was very consistent i would like to see more refs handing out yellows for diving. Robben was dangerous, also ESSIEN is my man of the match he was simply amazing. Lamps was no where to be found, Ballack was also pretty bad besides the goal, Obi and Mak switch was nice. TERRY will be back :D
i didn't get to watch the game but when i found out it was 1-0 i had a very bad feeling about this game. good to see Robben and Ballack restored some order. cant wait to get home and watch it.
RuiCosta_10 07-03-2007, 12:16:AM Porto played pretty well in both games, was much harder for Chelsea than i would think.
Congrats for that
dipset 07-03-2007, 12:37:AM yeah Porto deserves respect, and i also gotta give alot of respect to the ref to give a dive for a yellow card and it was at Stamford Bridge so it showed he wasnt influenced by the crowd (like some refs tend to do) and made great calls, i think him and the guy from swiss Masimo (somthing) are the best refs in the tourny
K3nzo 07-03-2007, 01:36:AM Our dream was becoming very real when Helton had that big bad mistake! Then Chelsea playin at home get their job done!
Too bad we weren´t a little bit more ambitious and consistent! Congrats to Chelsea for going through!
Funky--K 07-03-2007, 02:03:AM things are so ironic sometimes
just yesterday i was telling my friends (porto fans) that if Porto beat Chelsea, Helton would probably be the hero
never thought it would be the other way around =/
INFESTA 07-03-2007, 10:11:AM First things first: I am very proud of my boys! They did wonderful yesterday and were unlucky to not go through. We're still a very young team and you can bet we're coming back stronger next year!
Chelsea
They deserved the win in the end, just like we would have had we gone through. Now I want Mourinho to get himself another CL trophy and shut his critics for good. Unfortunately for him and Chelsea fans in general, I didn't see 'what it takes' in his team. They look quite beatable and will be a somewhat accessible prey for a more experienced team (if there is one in the QFs, that is), and a smarter coach than Porto's.
Abramovich
Anyone else saw Roman's gesture by half-time, disapproving his team? I thought that was:
a) incredibly arrogant and stupid, because it shows a complete lack of knowledge of what a football match is like, and how you can be horrible in the first half and sublime in the second, or how you can turn a result around in just a couple minutes, or how defeat is part of the game itself.
b) very boss-like and legitimate to a certain extent. He put in billions and now is only interested in results. Does it matter that Chelsea's been plagued by injuries this season? Does it matter that Porto is playing better? He just wants the W, and if it isn't happening he doesn't care why, and heard will roll.
What I felt, though, is that this guy is not about football at all. He doesn't understand or comprehend the game and its nuances. In fact, he doesn't even know what a game of football is made of, what's at stake and what the variables are. To him, it's nothing but an investment and a way to promote himself and look cool. As soon as his team stops winning consistently or he finds a better vehicle for self-promotion he'll be gone. I hope the latter happens soon enough.
Jesualdo
It's easy to criticize him afterwards, so I'll rather go through my motions before, during and after the match.
When I saw Ricardo Costa in the line-up I immediately cursed Jesualdo. Why did he invent on such an important game? Why call up someone who not only is a fish out of the water playing in the LB position but also hasn't seen any playing time this year? And why put our natural LB in the midfield, where we have plenty of (better) talent?
I predicted the absolute worst, but, like most, was surprised to see the team playing well and finishing the first half with a strong performance and realized why I am not training a professional football team.
Inevitably, things would end up going in Chelsea's favor, with a fluke of a goal and a gross defensive fack-up in Chelsea's winner. Watch the 2nd goal and see how Ballack is wide open in the middle of 3 defenders. Look carefully, read the markings and guess who should have covered Ballack. Yes, Ricardo Costa, the guy who isn't a LB and should never have played.
Not that Jesualdo Ferreira is bad, but this team deserves a better coach.
Helton
He's an amazing goalie. Yesterday he made a terrible mistake that, dare I say it, cost us a trip to the QF's of the CL. It was the most important match of the season so far, and he had to fail us there. After that mistake he clearly lost his confidence and facked up a couple more times.
Helton currently holds the n.1 spot ahead of Dida in the Brazilian NT and I think every Porto fan agrees that he should be the starter. Still, we all looked at the bench and saw one of the most experienced gk's around, who has played in hundreds of matches with this importance and has guaranteed nerves of steel. I bet Baía felt the same yesterday evening when he laid down in his bed.
