Run DMB 07-03-2007, 12:32:AM http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/4606657.html
GROUP A: COSTA RICA, HAITI, CANADA, GUADELOUPE
GROUP B: USA, TRINIDAD & TOBAGO, GUATEMALA, El SALVADOR
GROUP C: MEXICO, PANAMA, HONDURAS, CUBA
Always thought guadeloupe was a tropical fruit. Guess not.
Group B is the "Group of Death", closely followed by Group C. Favorable draw for Canada.
Bobby 07-03-2007, 01:47:AM Canada won't make it out of the groups. Costa Rica will win easily, Haiti will finish 2nd.
Canada will do really well until it's time to shoot, but their strikers are...ugh.

Who cares, it should still be a stroll in the park.
rony31 07-03-2007, 04:12:AM we'll just end up getting ****ed over by some Mexican referee in the end anyways.
Internazionale 08-03-2007, 01:30:AM Mexican coach Hugo Sanchez is hungry to topple the US squad and have his club capture the throne as it last did in 2003.
"This is a new era for the Mexican team and I am convinced we are going to make history," Sanchez said. "But to start this history that will be so beautiful, we have to win the Gold Cup."
Mexico look very serious to win it.

pasion1 08-03-2007, 02:11:AM This is an extremely favorable draw for Canada. Is it me, or has Canadian football/soccer really been having an ideal year this year.
1) Toronto FC already a success without playing a game
2) Montreal and Vancouver serious about getting in the MLS too
3) Youth World Cup sells over 500,000 before the groups are announced. (insane)
4) TFC and CSA work to develop young players at pro level, just the start of long term program.
4) Canada gets great draw in Gold Cup.
I mean, Canada pretty much made 5 years of progress in a few months. That's pretty good.
$teauA 08-03-2007, 03:02:AM I'm still wondering what kind of roster we're gonna take to this.
Run DMB 08-03-2007, 05:07:AM I'm still wondering what kind of roster we're gonna take to this.
I would like to see some overlap between our Gold Cup and Copa America squads. We can get through the group stage and the quarterfinals of the Gold Cup with our B-team (we're likely to face Costa Rica in the semis), so here's what I would suggest:
1) Start out the tournament with 16 "B" squad players. We'll name a roster of 23 but we won't use our top players, so that they can stay with their MLS clubs/get some needed rest after the long European season.
2) When we reach the semifinals, have our 7 top players come in so we can take on Costa Rica, and then Mexico in the final.
3) After we win the Gold Cup, take the 7 key players along with a different set of 16 players to Venezuela.
I know that sounds tricky, but it might be the only way we can both win the Gold Cup and not embarrass ourselves at Copa America. Team chemistry would be a big issue, however.
