Goalless draw with the Israelies is Okie... but the clueless performace by the Million Dollar Premiership players is what stung me the most... England need to wake up very very soon.. They are so far beyond other top nation in term of performance and getting results... So hard to swallowned is that they have all the Stevie G, Ferdinand, J. Terry, Lamps, Rooney, and tons of top class talent at their disposal.. they cudn't even string a good passes to each others.. Losing or drawing with a tough opponents once in a while is always acceptable.. But the way they play is something that is not acceptable, not from a Premiership stature player at least... No excitement, predictable long ball, no danger, lousy strategy.. bla bla bla... This has been going on for too long period.. Iz always overhyped..!!

Whats wrong? well first of all the FA appointed Erriksons assistant coach as the new manager, he clearly had a say in tactics cuz it's like watching Errikson being in charge all over again, number 2, he continues to cater for Lampard, when he clearly isnt performing for England, where as Gerrard IS performing and working hard, yet he plays HIM out of position, please tell me the logic in that? he'll drop Beckham, but drop Lampard? oh nono, just play Gerrard in the centre of midfield and drop Lampard, ty, and moving on, he plays Lennon on the left, when he performs so much better on the right, now for club, testing him on the left may pay off, but internationally, the flanks can be key, so he must play on the right, also, maybe now he'll finally realise Johnson cant put away chances for England at the first time of asking, if you give Defoe a run, he will score for you, wether it's club or country, Cole/Downing, Hargreaves, Gerrard, Lennon in midfield, then we will see results, but allow me to ask, why Mclaren wanted to play a holding midfielder, against Israel?

Either they will fight to win back a place or they're out. obviously upfront the situation is a bit worse than in midfield. but I like that generall idea.

they need Gerrard to stop playing the long balls. if he is not good enough enough to play in his strongest position, drop him. play a natural right midfielder. players playing out of position makes them narrow, and the service in general to Rooney and co is crap. the egos need to be checked.

it's very simple really the manager need's to go that's first and then beckham have to come back he is a natural born leader the english team lack's leadership and a right skipper

Beckham is useless to them now. He is passed it now unfortunatly. Gary Neville is a leader too. Terry should be more vocal IMO. They give some of the "stars" too much say. They are more interested in writing books. Lampard, Ferdinand, Gerrard, Ashley Cole etc. are more interested in money. A kick up the ass would do them good.

Walcott is unproven at best!!!

They should just play their U-21's team, or even use their 4-3-3 system and drop Gerrard and Lampard...or something similar

Anyway we've been round this track already many times... you tell everyone how cool you are and don't care what anyone has to say about you... then start moaning, crying, posting mega tirades and then you in turn give people neg rep WITHOUT SIGNING. You're a total hypocritical tool.

I would say the problem lies with player power.

McClaren doesn't dare drop Lampard or Gerrard. It is well proven that this pairing will never work. All England fans have given them more than enough time to sort it out. They haven't.

They simply need a big kick up their arses. McClaren needs to start dropping people to establish who's boss. He used to be the number 2 before and the players probably don't recognize that he's the gaffer now.

Look at what Roy Keane has done for Sunderland. No coaching experience, but the players respect and work for him. Immediate results.

I doubt McClaren will ever have that kind of effect on England players.

Time to stop picking the best 11 that won't work together. And just picking 11 that do work together. You could have C.Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Zidane, Lampard, Gerrard, Pirlo, and Riquelme in the same squad, but you need to make choices. In Mclarens case hed just bang 7 in midfield.

Thank god we don't have two world class English goalkeepers or hed probably play one of them in defence despite reports they can't play together.

::shinji::
26-03-2007, 05:10:PM
Nothing's lost yet for England, everybody relax.. teams with quality players and experience always find a way to qualify (almost always). Look at how Spain and Italy always manage to get through despite having gone through periods where they had a string of unimpressive results.

England's a good rival. Like them or not, it's true the WC and Euro's are poorer if they don't qualify.

Yeah, especially since they always lose against us, they're highly needed! ;)

j/k

Now seriously, it's exactly as you said. Several top teams many times go through difficult times in qualification, but most of the time they qualify. Now, having said this, they do need to step it up, otherwise they're in big trouble. And it's also true England being absent from a EC or WC is a major negative...

The source of the problems? Woonie and Lampard. It's not McLaren's job to finish those chances that Carl Cort dreams about.

They aren't producing, simple as that.

Out: Woonie, Lampard, Robinson
In: Crouch, Barton, Carson

garlei
27-03-2007, 08:15:PM
the problem lies with McClaren. their tactics were way too negative. As Alan Shearer rightly pointed out on Match of the Day, their simply weren't enough bodies in the box when crosses went in. All there was were the two forwards, and you know how short they are. With Israel's ten men behind the ball, Gerrard and Lampard should have joined in, especially given that Hargreaves is there.

Way too negative, way too, sven-like.

He's only played a handful of games after being out for half a year with a broken leg. He's at like 60%. They should've played Carrick or someone else.

Playing on the outside out of position.

Of course now he's in the center he's scored twice, two more than Lampard scored. (H)

Kibe Kru
28-03-2007, 10:02:PM
The fact that Lampard had most shots on goal means that England can't get their strikers in good positions - else Frank would pass the ball to them...

Also, if he shot that many times and couldn't score, well... Gerrard surely should have been in front of Frank to deflect his shots in instead of creating chances for him.

That's the thing, Gerrard had done **** all aswell. If one was dropped to let a natural winger in there, I think Lampard would have more success. Trouble is Gerrard scored twice last night against a poor nation, which makes him look good.
