That last line didn't make sense, but whatever. I respect your tastes, but all I am saying is that it is much more common to score long volleys than to score solo runs from half-field and bypassing various defenders. That is what makes this goal unique for me...

I agree that the stage wasn't as large as the WC, but Getafe are no slouch of a team. These are professional top-level football players, playing in a semi-final of a tournament that is important to them, and he went through them like a hot knife through butter.

Zlatan goal with Ajax was also out of this world, between Messi and Zlatan i can't tell which one was better.

I favour Zlatan's more actually because he did it all barely moving. Its much harder to defend against players that are running full speed, rather than walking with the ball and even though Zlatan didn't run half the field, he used purely skill to get past players, unlike Messi who used speed as well. Nevertheless, like i said, this is the goal of the season.

Messi's goal is amazing, but I think Maradona's 'goal of the century' is so special for all the other things behind it. It was in a World Cup vs. England, only a few years after the Falklands war, which Argentina lost. So alot of Argentinians saw this as an opportunity to somehow take revenge too. He also did it 3 minutes after he scored the 'Hand of God' goal, but after THE goal everyone already forgave him for it. It's a formiliar story...
Maybe 'memorable' is a better word for those kind of goals. They'll stick with you more when they have a story behind them.

There's something about these different goals going past all the defenders or a 50 yard shoot.

Almost any slightly lucky player can score from a long distance, but it requires a very skilled player to score a goal like Messi's, Giiggs' or Zlatan's, and i agree that football is more beautiful when it's played by skilled people, like these 3 guys. Now from the 3 goals which are somewhat the same kind of goal, i still prefer Messi's.

Goal of the millenium my ass. Ok, it's a really good goal, but the only fact that will make people remember it is the similarity to Maradona's. I mean the goal practically had no importance seeing that it was already 2 or 3-0, it's against Getafe, who let's face it, no one except the ones who constantly watch *all-around* football know about (we'd be lucky if more than half of the people here ever heard of it), plus it's the Copa del Rey. Yeah sure it's a great goal but it's far from 'Goal of the Century'.
