Lets discuss tactics, key players, press conferences, mind games etc... I said before i wasnt keen on watching this game. But the chance to see Liverpools backsides handed to them is too much to resist. But no can deny Liverpool are something else in the champions league and its starting to look like its more important than the league. But honestly what happened to the days of the 80's when Liverpool played some real football as opposed to launching long balls.

Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has branded UEFA Champions League final opponents Liverpool 'a long ball team'.

The two giants of the European game will reprise their 2005 showdown in Athens later this month following contrasting semi-final wins.

Liverpool edged past Chelsea in a penalty shoot-out, while Milan were magnificent in thumping Manchester United 3-0 at the San Siro.

Gattuso has compared the two Premiership rivals and feels Liverpool are no match for their Manchester counterparts.

"I feel there is a noticeable difference in talent between Manchester United and Liverpool, and that we have beaten the better side of the two," said Gattuso.

"United have far more technical players, who are quick and able to do things on the ball. Liverpool do not have those individuals.

"What they have is a way of playing as a team. They are like an Italian team of 10 years ago.

"All they try to do is defend together, with everybody behind the ball and just one striker. Every ball is a long ball."

Gattuso is also relishing a midfield battle with Steven Gerrard, following the Reds captain's critical comments of the Italian in his autobiography.

The former Rangers ace added: "If he wants to say bad things about me to get me going, I'm very happy.

"I now have 20 days to prepare to play against him again.

"I still say I have respect for him and like the way he plays. I'm looking forward to playing him again and looking him in the eye before it starts."

Milan will 95% surely will play this:

Dida

Oddo-Nesta-Maldini-Jankulovski

Gattuso-Ambrosini

Pirlo

Seedorf-Kaka

Inzaghi

I wonder what Rafa will play? He's known to tinker.

There will be no ****up by Milan this time. I guarantee a Milan win (unless it goes to penalties, when then Liverpool will win)

Wouldn't worry too much about injury to key players seeing as how Pool have only one game to go and Milan 2. Most likely both team will be fielding second string teams

Kaká to take it.

two goals from Gerrard from 30 yards, though.

Well, it's still too early to tell, though I'd say most of those who played against Chelsea in the semis will be on the pitch again for the final.

Maybe Rafa'll go for a lone striker, as Liverpool did have to score against Chelsea, so maybe he'll drop Crouch and put Alonso/Sissoko for better coverage against Kaka...

I'd go for this:
Reina
Finnan - Carra - Agger - Riise
Pennant - Gerrard - Sissoko - Zenden
Bellamy - Crouch (Kuyt)

Rafa seems to be pretty good at coming up with schemes to neutralize his opponents.

This should be an interesting tactical battle...

The thing is, Gattuso could mark Gerrard, but there really isn't a catalyst in the Liverpool side like Ronaldo in ManU where you know you can just key on him and shut down their offence.

No, I do think he's gonna start. I just wouldn't pick him if it was down to me (sure, he's playing well. But I've seen him playing for Corinthians and I'm not convinced he can be all that effective against Kaka.)

Can't you guys play some one else instead of Zenden, he stinks on the wing.
With Garcia injured, there's Kewell... and Gonzalez... Or Riise and then play someone else at left back, though I'm not really sure about Aurelio's fitness, or Insua's capacity. Then again, we've won it in 2005 with Traore there.

I wonder what Rafa will play? He's known to tinker.

Isn't Pirlo supposed to play right in front of the center backs?

Something like this?

------------Pirlo------------

Gattuso---------------Ambro

-------Kaká-----Seedorf----

And Kaká playing more forward than Seedorf?

jani
07-05-2007, 03:21:PM
about Pirlo, no. he's been struggling for form for about a year now (except the WC) because teams basically knew how to take him out.

his weakness is obviously defending so teams tended to press him more thus eliminating him from the game.

what Carlo has done recently is releasing Pirlo from his defensive duties by having two ballwinners.

its been working magnificently well. Carlo can be the both sides of genius and idiocy sometimes, its frustrating :(

about Seedorf, well.. true. but you cant really tell with Kaka cause he has a free role and does whatever he wants.

everyone know that ac milan has a much better team squad then us.. even in 2005 as well.. so naturally they are the favourites to win it this time as well.. but football is round.. anything can happen..

i read the article yesterday.. i don't mind him saying milan to win it.. but to add the other comments about wine thing is just make him sound like a sour loser.. but anyway, i think both fergie and gattuso just made Liverpool CL team talk with their comments on us.. (H)

Even though i'm a United fan i have a feeling AC Milan will take Liverpool for granted and go all out against them. Liverpool could win this game by counter attacking and playing their normal way. But I think Gerrard should play in the middle and be the man to watch Kaka. I think Liverpool will use man marking and this will be to their advantage. Liverpool can beat Milan.

It will not be Milan's game. Liverpool and Benitez will do it once again.
I can see a much more tactical game. Both teams know their and the opposite's value, I can see a very boring CL final.

And I can see a 1-0 to Liverpool, with a 30 yard screamer from Gerrard.

He has a right to be. Not the first time an Italian team has made a meal of challenges. Its the same every year. European refs dont always catch on the growing trend of cheating. But maybe after a couple of Inzaghi and Gilardino rolls they might say hold on that wasnt really a foul was it. Cant blame him.

Celtic are an honest team like most British teams. I can see were the grief comes from. But this is champions league. ANd diving been goin on from time indefinite. So we use to it by now. Its a european football trend.

Maybe its only England and english refs that book for diving. Like when they say no penalty why dont they book for the dive then? lol.

I'll be wearing my Liverpool Red on Wednesday. Don't really support an English club, but I really do like Gerrard. Bought the jersey some 6 years ago when I was in Germany (being from the US, seeing racks of jerseys at a department store was like Christmas) and I guess I support them, but I don't really care. I prefer watching good players and teamwork when I watch the EPL. Like Rooney and Ronaldo; Henry; Ballack (from his pre-Bayern and Bayern days); and Gerrard of course. Also like some Tottenham guys.

Go Reds!

Gattuso admits Premiership domination

Rino Gattuso insists English football is taking over Europe - because of the money available to Premiership clubs.

Milan's midfield enforcer has himself been courted by the likes of Manchester United in recent years, but he has never been tempted away from the Giuseppe Meazza.

There were three English clubs in this season's UEFA Champions League semi-finals and the former Rangers man feels that could be a familiar sight in the future.

"The key factor in the rise of English club football is they have more money than any other country in Europe," Gattuso explained in the Sun.

"That means their clubs are able to attract the kind of star players who would never have considered a move to England only a few years ago.

"Premiership clubs own their own stadiums, have foreign owners and get incredible money from TV which is unequalled anywhere in the world.

"Add the fact that the commercial men at their top clubs do a really good job and I'm afraid that money will finance a long period of English domination in Europe."

Gattuso is gearing himself up for Wednesday's final against Liverpool in Athens and he admits he, like many of his team-mates, are still reeling from their defeat in Istanbul at the hands of the Reds in 2005.

"You need strength and courage to watch the 2005 final again and I refuse to see it in full," he admitted.

"The European Cup was within Milan's grasp that year but at the end of the final it was Liverpool who held the trophy.

"I will never forget what happened in Istanbul. Even if I win many more trophies, I will always remember that night.

"I was battered mentally and spiritually after Istanbul.

"I even decided to ask Milan for a transfer simply so I could turn the page mentally and forget the pain of that experience.

"However, I reflected on what happened and decided Liverpool had taught me the value of psychology in football.

"When you get to this level and when you get to a massive final at the end of a long season it's not about talent any more but about attitude and fighting spirit."

I'd like to see Milan thrash Liverpool, but i think it will be a tight game like the FA cup final. I'm picking Milan 1-0.

On Gattuso's comments ,does anyone else think that if the discrepancy between the amount of TV money going into premiership and the other european leagues increases, it will force the big southern European clubs into forming a superleague. If they start to struggle to hang on to players then I think they might start considering it.

MINIMUM THREE MINUTES INJURY TIME + 30 seconds for a substitution = 3:30 (MINIMUM)

NOT 2 minutes and 43 seconds.

No, you're incorrect, injury time is at the ref's descretion. assistant put 3 minutes of added time. Favalli came on after, can't add on 30 more seconds, doesn't work like that.

Yes, the ref CAN add more time to injury time after he's signalled his assistant of his opinion. I can't remember having seen it on the EPL, but it happens quite frequently in Brazil, with all the timewasting that happens around here.

I don't think it'd be decisive for this match though. We couldn't take our chances for 90 mins, it's not 30 seconds that would make a difference

AC Milan 2-1 Liverpool

17000 tickets allocated to each set of fans despite the stadium holding 63000.

Both sets of fans were ****.

Liverpool were the better team and lost.

Kaka was **** until he made the defence-splitting pass which released Pipo Inzaghi.

Greek authorities did not allow for big screens to be put up in Athens for fans without tickets.

AC Milan should have never been allowed in the competition in the first place after their match-fixing scandal.

An average final was played overall with both teams looking lacklusture.

Not to forget that the referee stopped the game without fulfilling the injury time added - despite AC Milan wasting most of that time with substitutes?!

So why did the :drevil:master tactician:drevil: start the game with a has been like Zenden and then replace him with another has been like Kewell? Not very masterly in my opinion. Theyare both very bad.

And with a four man defence instead of a ten man defence, Liverpool's defence sucks. Carragher and Agger were awful. Gerrard was nothing tonight. Alonso spent all night fouling people. The only Liverpool players who did well were Pennant and Risse. Even Kuyts goal was offside.

I think the Liverpool team had the same problem as the Liverpool fans.....overconfidence.

At the end of the day, ( as one Liverpool fan recently told me), the best team on the night is the team that scores the most goals.

wwwwwwwwwwwoooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww !!!!!!!!!!!! (H)

hehehe... Congrats To Milan (6) and to me as a fan.....!!!!!

Now on the game and some team that is made for CL competition.

The game was HORRIBLE IMO. Liverpool only looked good because Janku, Nesta and Maldini were giving away the ball near Dida and that's why 'Pool had so many chances or seemed to.

Coming from a Milan fan believed me, Milan playedthe WORST game of the season, Kaka was off, Seedorf didn't touch the ball at all, Ambrosini was a fan not a player, Pirlo couldn't do anything and our defence was out of sink. NOW liverpool had only two clear chances (not counting the goal) a Pennant shot and the Gerrad missed, that's it.

Zenden is a bad player IMO, he has never been good with crossing the only thing is that he can out run you, no more.... pennant was more into passing or crossing the ball that going for a goal. Kuyt was almost non existing and were was Alonso ??? and Kewell as a replacement ???????????????? he sucks even more that Zenden.

The first goal was legal because Inzaghi had his arm to his body, so it wasn't a handball or at least not intentional. The second goal was a master piece by Kaka that faked a long shot and then pass and of course a clinical finish by Pippo.

Bad game overall, i don't think anyone deserved the win, but Milan took the only 2 opportunities that they had and liverpool didn't.

Some legends tips now: Maldini has won his 5 CL, 3 as captain and Ancelotti has won it twice as a player and twice as a manager, and Seddorf has won its 4th.

Now saying that Milan didn't deserved to be in the CL in ridiculous, why ??? well, they were 2nd in the league, but because of the scandal they had to qualify and they did, then the group stage and a very hard semi-final against the best English team (by the EPL standars that it) Manchester United.

So yeah Milan deserved to be there as well as Liverpool who in my mind eliminated the 2 best teams in Barcelona and Chelsea. Two teams that earn their spots but Milan came out on top (H)

FORZA MILAN ---- Larga vita per il grande capitano Rossonero --- and Long live Milan !!!!

BTW i was watching the game with a Liverpool fan here in Miami (H) and i say, good bye loser !!!! at the end hehe.

EDIT: one more thing.... Milan played well for 114 minutes last time, with 6 minutes of excellence for Liverpool that gave you guys the tie and eventually the cup. This time, Liverpool played 80 minutes well with 10 minutes of milan that was more than enough for the glory. So pay back was even this time. VENDETTA !!!!

Even a full 3(WOW.....that's a lot...NOT) minutes wouldn't have been enough for us today.

...And with a four man defence instead of a ten man defence, Liverpool's defence sucks....

Actually, I thought they did a pretty decent job, except for the one play that did result in a goal. In addition, Kaka, Pirlo and Seerdorf were contained.

You are absolutely right about Rafa's tactics....they were off...bigtime. Infact, I would say that he cost us the game. Crouch should have been brought on earlier.....he's a rare "creature" and it's a shame he got virtually no playing time. Bellamy should have been on instead of the slow, ungainly Kuyt.

And then there was Mr. Stevie G (the epitome of overconfidence.....what an idiot....he would have never said that stuff 2 years ago) who was made to crawl back into his ph**king shell!!! Hero my a**!!! He had that Fabien Barthez look written all over, after the final whistle...you know...that "SLAP ME, I LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT" look!!

Rafa walks a tight rope in Europe and has been able to get away with it....there's no sense in creating half chances if you get buried by a few bursts from the opponent!

I'm, so mad a the manager right now.....it is so very infuriating!

not a great final by any means, but to those saying Milan had "typical Italian luck" and didn't deserve to win can go eat a cock. sure we played horribly but we did what we had to and won. did Liverpool play any better? **** no, they were as lacklustre as us but they looked better because Nesta, Gattuso, Janku and Maldini all thought they were Pool players half the time and gave the ball away in their own end carelessly. add that to the fact that Ambro & Seedorf were nearly invisible and that Kaka was largely ineffective until the assist on the 2nd goal. yet we still managed to win. so **** all yall haters.

and Pippo's goal was pretty much off his shoulder which I don't think is considered a hand-ball, is it? that and it wasn't a fluke, knowing Pippo he probably meant it (H) and the 2nd goal was just class from start to finish, I wanted Kaka to shoot until I saw him thread the needle and I was just in awe. what a clinical finish from Pippo as well, how he got it perfectly under Reina was amazing (Y)

I thought the Kuyt goal was offside as well until they zoomed out and I saw Seedorf standing there so he could have been played onside, but it was mightly close. didn't matter in the end but as soon as that goal went in flashes of Istanbul ran through my mind and I got nervous and started yelling OFFSIDE FOR ****S SAKE, OFFSIDE! :(

overall it didn't even feel like a final to me for some reason until the final 10 minutes which were hectic and my heart started pounding and I started yelling at the TV. and I agree the stoppage time thing was bogus, another 30 seconds should've been played at least, but I hated how Rafa ran at the referee at the final whistle pointing at his watch

FORZA MILAN!!! CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE ONCE AGAIN, GOT OUR ******* REVENGE (6)

I can't understand why people are blaming Benitez for the defeat. Yes, Crouch could have played more. That's about the only thing I think could be done differently.

Zenden? Yes, he's not good enough. I stated it earlier in the thread, but there's no replacement for him. We don't have good enough left midfielders when Riise is on the left back. With Luis Garcia's injury, it's even worse.

It's not Benitez's fault for not having decent enough players to be on the CL final. It will be if he's given the money he's rumoured to be getting and can't buy the players for next season.

I think taking off Maschareno was a mistake, he was arguably your best player today, handled Kaka very well and was a large reason why Milan couldn't counter effectively when Pool were pushing forward. just realized we scored the 2nd goal 4 minutes after he was subbed off, so there ya go :p but you cant really fault Rafa I guess, I personally would've taken off Xabi Alonso as he wasn't all that great, but I guess if you were to equalize you'd want him on the pitch, and possibly for penalties as well.

haha seeing all the arrogant bitter Milan haters make it much more sweeter (H)

It's funny that before the game it was practically Kaká vs Benitez's. It was either skills or tactics and both didnt come through.

I havent seen Kaká get owned like this ever since Schalke's (now Sevilla's) Poulsen last season. Mascherano is freaking immense.

But a moment of brillance from him led to SUPERPIPPO getting his double.

Damn, a true master of goals man. I cannot just put it simpler. Master of goals, goals only. haha

And I really dont get the Benitez flaming. The dude practically won the midfield battle in the first half but I thought his substitutions were wayyy off.

I thought Jankulovski should have been exposed more but Pennant couldnt do that. Gerrard should have gone up againts him.

Mascherano off for Crouch was also a HUGE mistake. I thought he should have taken off the ineffective Kuyt but chasing the game, it should have been Xabi.

All in all, wasnt a great game and we didnt play spectacularly. But we did in 2005 and we ended up with massive heart and head pain.

ahh, what a night. Pippo Inzaghi, a freaking legend. Its seriously just unbeliveable how this guy continues to score, his positioning is out of this planet, because god knows he cant dribble anybody. He was just brilliant, hats off to him.
The game was pretty bad otherwise. This thread is entertaining tho, people whining about Milan's luck, doesnt anyone remember 2 years ago? They ******* ran over Pool like a tank, and lost, why repeat the same mistake twice?
Also it looks like everybody forgot how they destroyed ManU...

Im no fan of Milan, more a fan of Inzaghi (and the best striker duo thats going to form next year, Pippo and Fatty), but against Pool, i was all in :). We were drinking all night to Superpippo, again, what a night :D.

edit: about the extra time, it wasnt going to make a difference, and Benitez looked like a jackass arguing. His subs were off too, Crouch was way too late, he took off his best player, etc. In general, Gerrard didnt carry his team, and thats what made the difference. And yeah, the pope didnt die.

What a sh*t finale. I could have known it though, Milan always plays defensive and Liverpool always plays defensive in the CL.

I think it's bad for football though, that a club who cheated and shouldn't even been allowed into the CL wins it in the end. It shows you can cheat and still win the biggest cup for clubs.

Yeah maybe they did cheat... But they got punished for it. And since they did, they deserve to win this cup. Congrats to Milan, an Italian team, which has proved again that ITALIAN football is and will reamin a quality football.

My sympathy goes out to the nicer 'pool fans on here, (you know who you are guys). As for the rest......well, you know.

Frankly, because Milan was allowed in the CL, they weren't punished at all. They and the ones that made Milan cheat would've been really punished if they wouldn't get the money from the CL.

And as Cody said, a club that cheats shouldn't be allowed on the highest stage of global football. That's just it.
And obviously they have cheated, otherwise they wouldn't have been found guilty and got points deducted.

The UEFA representative blamed Liverpool fans for causing trouble at the stadium. And people who had tickets but werent allowed in were trying to force their way in.

"He said in England this is the behaviour" of football fans. Well at least England has taken steps to deal with crowd trouble adn racism. We've taken down fences and stadiums are now safer so families can come to matches. Whenever we had a pitch invasion the rest of the crowd have shown their dissaproval and this hardly happens and only at lower division clubs.

That statement is a bit pathetic. English fans have caused trouble this season. But they have refrained from bringing swastikas, fireworks and flares to the stadium. England has done better than most countries when it comes to handing out stadium bans and stopping real hooligans from travelling or going to games for life.

But i'm sure we still sing anti semitic songs and raise a straight arm here in England. Stupid statements from suits who should know better.:nape:

Liverpool "fans" snuck in with forged tickets, and in some cases no tickets at all. They beat up their own fans to steal their tickets. They stormed the entrances. They then bragged about it one Sky Sports News and on the radio. Scum. No-one to blame but themselves. So-called fans. The only way to stop these Liverpool "fans" is to ban them from away fixtures. Unfortunately it is the proper fans that suffer. But Liverpool will play the victim card. Those bastards put people's lives at risk last night, and have not learned their lessons from previous disasters. The club does not deserve sanctions, but the fans have to be punished for their actions.

Now if that aint arrogant overconfidence then I dont know what is. What an embarrasing photograph that is.

There is a big row going on at the moment because Liverpool fans with tickets could not get into the stadium. They were refused entry because other Liverpool "fans", either got into the stadium with forged tickets or because "many hundreds" of Liverpool fans WITHOUT tickets rushed en masse the barriers and forced their way into the stadium. In the Liverpool end supporters were 3 to a seat and all the aisles were also packed with "illegitimate" fans.

The unfortunate Liverpool fans who were refused entry to the stadium were told that they would not be allowed in because the stadium was already full, thanks to the morons that forced their way through the barriers.

When I heard this today, I immediately thought of Hillsborough. Do you think these idiotic moronic wankers that forced their way into the stadium without tickets, probably become all tearfull and filled with sorrow at the mention of Hillsborough. Are they hypocrite enough to wave their scarves and sing the songs when Hillsborough is remembered?

Last night these pricks could have caused another Hillsborough. Maybe some of these offenders were indeed among the ticketless Liverpool fans who flooded and overcrowded the stand behind the goal that dreadful day.

The police at Hillsborough who we all know were inept to say the least said at the time that, if the ticketless fans were kept outside there would be a riot. Last night the Greek police said the same thing.

WTF is it with these ignorant selfish twats? This is the sort of behaviour that will get all English teams banned from Europe once more. Liverpool fans managed to do that to us before at the Heysel stadium and last night they tarnished the image of the English fan abroad once again.

I just do not understand how retarded some people are.

I'm not unhappy that Liverpool lost, not at all. I feel for my Liverpool friends of course, but to those fans last night who risked getting people killed AND kept their fellow Liverpool fans from watching a game that they had legitimately bought tickets for, I hope they are suffering very badly at the loss. They are a disgrace to English football. They are a disgrace to Liverpool Football Club.

Same with "<team name> winners of <event>" t-shirts, hats etc you see handed to team on stadium after winning. You think this merchandise is pressed in 5 minutes after the match is done? Hey looks like schools out for the day.

I've never met a Russian/American/Italian. Especially one who acts sooooo tough on the internet. It stands out a mile that you are a pussy in real life mate. Now have your din dins, get yer homework done, have a wank to Justin Timberlake and get a good nights sleep. Its another school day tomorrow. Sweet dreams poofta.

From your time on I'd say you're clearly all show I'm afraid... anyway you must be mistaken, I'm English, not a mindless Russian idiot like you.

Good that you're going back to Russia actually, might kick much needed sense back into you.

Drugs, child porn, underage prostitution, Government condoned murder and ugly women who give birth to retarded chilren who have an identity crisis. You aint Russian anyway. You are probably some inbred retard from Louisiana with 3 ears and a very small dick.:mexican:
