Wednesday - 19:45 Local Time - Glasgow, Scotland

Road to the final:

Espanyol defeated all four teams in their group stage, leaving their mark against Austria, Ajax, Zulte and Sparta. Riding this momentum they dispatched Livorno in the Round of 32 and Maccabi Haifa in the Round of 16. When the competition got stronger, so did Espanyol. Putting up a 3-2 victory at home against Benfica, they held on in Portugal to advance to the semis where they met the tournament favorites, Werder Bremen. Espanyol embraced the underdog label and scorched to a 5-1 aggregate win and into the final.

Sevilla went into the tournament with the new role of defending champions. The group stages proved demanding, but Sevilla finished second to secure a match against Champions League knockouts Steaua Bucaresti. Advancing with ease to the Round of 16, they met the challenge of Shakhtar Donetsk. After a 2-2 at home, they found themselves down 2-1 late in Ukraine when goalkeeper Palop scored a beautiful header that will surely be galvanized if Sevilla end up winning. A goal in overtime put them through to the quarterfinals against Tottenham who proved a worthy opponent but Sevilla got the job done as they often do when challenged. A 2-1 aggregate against Osasuna, in a tale of two matches, put Sevilla through to the final.

Preview video for the match. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmz9QIrLyDc&mode=related&search=) Worth watching if only for Palop's goal.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I predict a 2-1 win for Sevilla, although I'm not feeling nearly as optomistic as I did last year. Espanyol have been on fire in the UEFA Cup all season.

I'm gonna say 3-2 to Espanyol in ET, they have been very good in the Uefa cup and I think they could pull it off.

Here's the link to watch the final on:

You'll need to download either sopcast or TVANTS to watch one of the English versions.

I'm hoping Sevilla win because they deserve something now that it looks like they're gonna miss out on the league title. Espanyol are cup specialists though but a team in mid table mediocricity shouldn't be winning a continental tournament.

All I know is that they have the top goalscorer in the competition, Walter Pandiani

Tamudo, Pandiani, Rufete and Moha are the ones to watch.

I think Espanyol will take the win. Sevilla will be under a lot of pressure being the current champions, and Espanyol will be full of energy wanting to get their first international title in a very inspired season. I would bet my money on them.

I really doubt that, Sevilla play some nice stuff and Espanyol are pretty good too. Should be a nice match for the neutrals.

There a lot of rollin about in this game and it aint that great anyways. I'll check the results later. I just saw some guy roll on the edge of the box and the ref told him to get up but didnt book him for diving. pathetic

Anyway, it's 1-1 after 90 mins. Excellent, hopefully this will really tire out the Sevilla players for their next match vs Deportivo.

I really like how they hand over the trophy on the stands again. (Y) Nostalgic feelings there.

WHAT AN AMAZING FINAL :rockman:, congratulations to Sevilla on being only the second team ever to win this trophy back to back (Y). It is amazing the growth this club has had over the last couple of seasons and it shows that with great management, an up and coming coach and a little luck any club can go from nowhere to being on top of Europe two years in a row. I can't wait to see them in the Champions League next season.

Well, Steaua got knocked out by the champs, that makes me feel a little better about our premature exit from Europe this season.

Once again congrats to Sevilla and all of its great fans and also to Espanyol who were amazing tonight as well. Fantastic final! Liverpool and Milan will have to repeat their performance from two years ago to beat the show that was put on today.

damn, wanted Espanyol to win this, would've been a great story :( congrats to Sevilla though, back-to-back is quite an accomplishment. Palop came up huge (combined with some horrible penalties from Espanyol... they can learn from Pandiani)

Great performance from Palop in the shootout. Espanyol did well to come back twice especially in extra time that equaliser just came out of nowhere.

I thought Pandiani penalty was perfect almost unstoppable, top corner. Anyway congrats Sevilla.

I watched the game live. Really enjoyed it, great stuff. Dani Alves was exposed @ the back a few times. Lovely strike by Jonatas, the way it bended was wicked!(H)

No joy for Catalans!(H)
