Is this possible?

I don't think it would be fair, I blame the refs more.

Raul did the same thing in CL 4 years ago, don't believe he was suspended that time.

I guess this brings me to a topic: why people don't condemn what Maradonna did. He cheated, but people act as if it was so great.

I have 2 opinions in this. First i don't understand why people says these goals are great, c'mon it should've been disallowed. Second i don't understand why people call the player a "cheat" when in reality it's the referee and the linesmen who are "idiots".(:/)

Well call me old fashioned but I just think that the player SHOULD NOT even think about punching the ball into the net. I really do not simply blame the officials for not spotting it.

A player should have honour and self belief. To be happy to score a goal like that is a sign of a bad sportsman and a .....cheat. There is no other word for it.

By the way I DO NOT see any reason why this discussion has to feature in any way on the country that Messi was born in. This is about an individual and not an entire Nation.

Sad thing is, that players, most of the player, let's say 95% of them, don't have any honour at all, in or outside the pitch.:(

People are overreacting just because it was Messi.

I mean, it's a great goal, but I think Maradona's "hand of God" was definitely better. Besides it was against Espanyol and with a Spanish ref, so it is easier. Maradona did in a WC against England.

His celebration was indeed sickening for me. Although what was worse was seeing Eidur witness the cheating and celebrating like everyone else. There was a time in Eidur's career when seeing something like that would disgust him. No longer it seems.

It doesn't make any difference to me. I don't care one way or the other about Madrid or Barca, or any of their players. I just hate cheating. Yeah even when Englishmen do it.

It's a business. If you can bend the rules at your job to get a promotion and big raise, you might do it. Yes, some people have honor, but most people are going to do what they have to do to get ahead. In this case, at least nothing illegal happened.

Well, Slowjack, the only thing people cannot argue is the fact that we deserve totally to be in 1st place. Our hunger, determination, heart have made it possible. we've grinded out tough ones and survived not cause of luck but because of hard work and the team believing in themselves which is something Barca haven't managed now. This is just the thread that ShearerM4 opens every month since Messi scored that goal against Getafe..

Not really, the thread was a complaint at such a disgraceful act but also a brilliant attempt at auto-derision.

Anyway, all the complaining about oh "Madrid also did this and that so blablabla" is pretty typical and very annoying. Sort your own house out before looking anywhere else. If Messi's goal goes unpunished it would be a disgrace, and the Barca fans should be the first to be criticising it. Trying to minimise certain actions because of other actons past doesn't work is petty and childish "oh but he did it first, he started it"...

But then if you don't mind "winning" that way, then I guess it says a lot more about you than anything else.

The thing that gets to me is the Madrid Mierdistas getting sanctimonious about it.

I personally don't agree with the goal, and think it was cheating. On the other hand, I understand the pressure and the motivation for a player to do that. I don't condone it, but I understand why they do it.

As you have said numerous times the league is a 38 game marathon, not a 1 game sprint. Don't be intentionally obtuse.

Decisions over the course of a season come and go, goals here, penalties there, bad player moves etc.

Barcelona are where we are due to that, as is Madrid.

To say the league came down to a handball goal is both foolish and opportunistic, and I know you don't really believe that, as I've seen your posts in our thread about the subject of deserving the league etc.

The team that battles, wins, faces adversity and comes out on top is the champion. If that is Madrid this year, I will take my hat off to them. If it is Barca I will hold my head high, despite the handball goal, which is only a fraction of a piece of the entirety of the season.

You are right. We have it in our hands and I correct myself. If we lose it's our fault. That said, I think we (LFP) have the worst refs. The Spanish FA should really do something about it. Every team gets screwed by poor refs every now and then. And yes, Messi is a cheater, that's a fact. I think many players would have tried the same in Messis defense I guess. If that should happen we would have 3 points more than you and that tie would have no meaning in that, if he didn't score it, we would be still ahead by 2, and I think that's enough. Do your mathworks.:jambo:

ANYWAY, I don't approve what he did, ofcourse not, but it was the refs fault that they didn't see it, or they saw it and didn't call it. But if you really think, it's not that different than diving inside the penalty area to get a PK. Then some1 scores probably and the score can be totally different. But when this happens, do people here on SG make a huge topic about it and talk about it for couple weeks dissing the player as much as possible, and so on.

The truth is, this wouldn't be so big of a thing if it wasn't Messi who has been compared to Maradona all the time... I think that you all know it, but some of you just don't want to admit it or want to just through crap on Messi (OV:nape:).

And let me just say, I'm not defending him, and as I said before, I don't approve that, but it's understandable when the pressure is so high and the fight for the title is at it's last deviding moments. I hope that we win the title, but not like that, but as I have said, if Real loses and we win, this goal won't mean anything.

Overall, very proud. Particularly for this goal, I don't ******* care. Espanyol would have done anything to beat Barça and they had nothing to win or to lose in the game. Besides Messi was the best player on the field. If anything, I would praise him. He's a little genius.

He played like he was possessed that game... too bad so many other players didn't :(

and if madrid win the league is thanks to Nisterlooy for his hand goal, coz if real would score that goal they aren't gonna win that match + nisterlooy wouldn't play against Zaragoza if he would be booked.

so first think

Have u noticed is the second time we say this argument , and madridistas just "ignore" it??

Im nit anti- madirid BTW. But if madridistas think that Messi is a cheater i thin RVN is a cheater too.

There is a reason why I have ignored this, and thats because Ruud NEVER scored a goal with his hand. He did however used his hand that landed in the foot or Raul who strucked the ball, hit a depor player and rebounded to ramos who then when on to score the goal. As you can see there is a difference between what you are mentioning, and from what Actually happened. In the end it doesnt even compare to what messi did.

You're welcome by the way :p

is the same to me, thanks to RVN hand the ball ended in the net, wether he made the goal directly or not, he DID influence to score.

but we are not here to judge players we dont really know if they are cheaters, who knows what happens in their little heads in those moments, the real point is that non of both goals should be valid, so then again i think madrid fans should not complain against this bad call, you got one to.

Sorry for mi bad english

Yes we are... and we do know they are :funny: were the millions of videos not clear enough?

The fact the acts were clearly deliberate, and they then celebrated instantly is pretty conclusive I think.

NO!! its not the same. Messi was one on one with the kepeer in the air. With Ruud, There were defenders all around. Ramos actually got lucky for being able to get to the ball first, watch the video... Pff.. actually I'm sure I am not going to convince you. If you think is the same then fine.

Just to make one thing clear, I am not saying that what ruud did is o'k. but just not the same. :jambo:

Lucky or not the point is that the goal wasnt valid, u cant argue that.

And yes his hand influence to score that goal, and yes is cheating, just like diving. I belive there are no "levels" of cheating, u just cheat or not thats it.

And what Messi has done is disgusting thats for sure and i agree with all the comments against his celebration specially, but u cant complain about the bad call, cuz then again Real Madrid had one. end of story

Well...none of this will matter come this weekend. Hopefully we can beat Mallorca and hoist the trophy. Man, if we accomplish that....Who would have thought that with our "awful" team (as many of our rivals have labeled us) we could beat the rest of the league! What does that say about the rest? and...imagine when we become really really good....

  (H)

It was blatant handball and i think it was fair that barca conceded an equaliser in the last minute !!

The Spanish La Liga this season has been a real roller-coaster ride....madrid should win it but lets see what unfolds :p....anythings possible
