History
Foundation
Historical AS Roma positions in Serie AA.S. Roma was founded in July 1927. At the time, the city of Rome had several teams in the Italian football league: S.S. Lazio (1900), Roman F.C. , S.S. Alba-Audace Roma (founded in 1926 through the merger of Alba (1911) and Audace) and Fortitudo-Pro Roma S.G.S. (founded in 1926 through the merger of Fortitudo (1908) and Pro Roma (1912)), however most of them were weak financially and uncompetitive. Spurned on by the government's desire for each Italian city to be represented by one major club (as was done in Florence, Naples and Bari), Alba-Audace, Fortitudo-Pro Roma and Roman merged to form A.S. Roma. After a short use of the Motovelodromo Appio stadium, the yellow-red team settled in the working-class streets of Testaccio, where it built the extraordinary all-wooden homonym ground. The area still remains the club's spiritual heartland. Other grounds that have been used by A.S. Roma are the Stadio Flaminio and the Stadio Olimpico (the latter was built in 1952).
1920's-1950's
A.S. Roma took part in their first national league in the 1929-30 season and won their first Scudetto in 1941-42. However, they would have to wait a considerable 41 years for their second triumph in the 1982-83 season and 18 years for their third in 2000-01. They have been runners-up in 1930-31, 1935-36, 1980-81, 1983-84, 1985-86, 2001-02, 2003-04, 2005-06 (after the final verdict on the match-fixing scandal) and 2006-07. A.S. Roma have been relegated only once in their 80 year history: this came at the end of the 1950-51 season, though they made a swift return to Serie A the following season.
1950s to 1970s
After returning to Serie A in 1952, Roma spent the remainder 1950s and early 1960s in the top half of Serie A. From 1963 to 1979 AS Roma endured a period of mediocrity with 3rd place in 1974-75 being the best they could manage, punctured by either mid-table mediocrity or flirtation with relegation. Notable players in this period include defender Giacomo Losi and midfielders Franco Cordova and Giancarlo De Sisti.
1980s and onwards
Roberto Pruzzo was Roma's most effective striker in the 1980s.With talented players including Bruno Conti, Agostino Di Bartolomei, Roberto Pruzzo and Falcao, Roma would begin the 1980s in its best position to challenge for the title since 1942. After narrowly (and controversially) missing out in 1981 to Juventus, they broke through in 1983 amidst joyous celebrations in the capital. They reached the European Cup final the following year, only to lose to Liverpool on penalties. In the 1990-1991 season, Roma reached the UEFA Cup final in which they lost to Inter Milan 2-1 on aggregate.
They have more or less remained in the top half of Serie A ever since, occasionally mounting a serious challenge for the title, which they won again in the 2000/2001 season by beating Parma 3-1 on the last day of the season, edging out Juventus by two points.
Francesco Totti was one of the main reasons for Roma's victory that season and has since become an icon of the club equal in status to Pruzzo and Conti before him. He is a hero to Roma supporters, even more today thanks to Italy's 2006 FIFA World Cup success. Since then Totti has become Roma's top scorer beating Pruzzo's previous tally of 106 goals.
Roma came close to a successful defense of their title, but lost out as another title race with Juve went to the wire. They missed out by just one point and had to settle for second place and an automatic UEFA Champions League spot. Since they won the scudetto Roma have finished second every season in either the Serie A or the Coppa Italia. They lost out to AC Milan in the Coppa Italia final in the 2002-2003 season (losing 4-2 on aggregate), and again in the Serie A in the 2003-2004 season where they finished second.
2004-2005 was an abysmal campaign where Roma flirted with relegation before finishing in 8th place. They managed to secure a UEFA Cup spot by reaching the Coppa Italia final which they lost to Inter Milan 3-0 on aggregate. Their Champions League campaign was even worse as they only managed 1 point from 6 games before finishing last in their group. Their first game was a 3-0 victory for Dynamo Kiev as they got penalized because an object from the stands hit the referee. The match was called off, victory was given to the Ukrainian outfit, and Roma had to play 2 home games behind closed doors. Their only point came from the 1-1 draw at home with Bayer Leverkusen thanks to a late goal by Vincenzo Montella.
AS Roma also made to the final of the 2005/06 Coppa Italia to face Inter Milan. They drew the First leg 1-1 but lost the return leg 3-1, losing 4-2 on aggregate. This was the second year in a row they lost to Inter Milan in the Coppa Italia final.
AS Roma beat Olympique Lyonnais to reach the quarter finals of the Champions League in 2007, but after taking a 2-1 lead over Manchester United at home and being undefeated in 10 games in all competitions, they suffered a 7-1 defeat in the second leg at Old Trafford (8-3 on aggregate). This was their first defeat in Europe since losing 1-0 to Shakhtar Donetsk in the group stage. It was also the biggest margin of victory in a quarter final match of either the European Cup or Champions League, since 1957-58, when Real Madrid beat Sevilla 8-0 (10-2 on aggregate).
The team secured second place in Serie A with three games to go, behind Inter Milan. Although the nerazzurri dominated the championship, they lost the match against Roma 1-3 in San Siro. The two clubs also faced each other in the two legs of the 2007 Coppa Italia final. Roma won the cup after an impressive 6-2 in the first leg, while lost 2-1 the second leg. It was the eighth Coppa Italia in Roma's history.
Supporters
The club plays at the 82,656 seater Stadio Olimpico, shared with S.S. Lazio. The two teams face off against each other at least twice a season in the Derby della Capitale (Derby of the Capital) which is notorious for being one of the most fiery and emotional rivalries in world football. Two extreme incidents in particular have left their mark on the history of this heated fixture. In 1979, Lazio fan Vincenzo Paparelli was hit in the eye by a flare fired by a Roma fan from the opposite end of the stadium, subsequently becoming the first fatality in Italian football history. In 2003 an unprecedented event occurred when the Roma Ultras forced the game to be suspended after spreading false rumours among the crowd that a child had been killed by the police prior to the beginning of the game.
AS Roma's principal ultras group until the middle of the 1990s was the left-leaning CUCS (Commando Ultrà Curva Sud). However the group was slowly usurped by rival factions and ultimately broke up. The Curva Sud has been controlled since then by various groups which lean markedly to the right (AS Roma Ultras, Boys, Giovinezza, etc.) This change is comparable to what had happened a few years earlier at neighbors Lazio when the a-political "Eagles Supporters" were purged by the far right "Irriducibili", who on the other hand, have enjoyed complete control of the Curva Nord since 1992. It is worth bearing in mind that in both team's cases the political leanings of the actual groups, though more likely to generate media attention, is usually not their raison d'être and more just a part of their overall identity.
The club anthem, "Roma (non si discute, si ama)" by Antonello Venditti, is played and sung before each match, and "Grazie Roma", by the same singer, is played at the end of home games when the team wins. A recent addition to the supporters repertoire was the riff to the White Stripes song, 'Seven Nation Army' which was later used by supporters of the Italian national team in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. It started when Totti was heard on camera during a warmup for one Roma's league games 'free-styling' his own words to the song and the Roma supporters began singing Totti's version at games.
Kimikal™ 25-06-2007, 08:57:PM The first "2007-2008" thread. (Y)
I really hope we will do a great job this season, maybe a better season than 06-07. I must say 06-07 was a very good season for us, winning the Copa Italia, finishing 2nd in the league and reaching the quarter finals in Champions League and Totti winning the Golden Shoe is really good. Nothing more to say at the moment, just FORZA ROMA!
By the way, check "disable smilies in text", that little devil is annoying. :p

Tosiek 26-06-2007, 09:51:AM Chivu set for Inter
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Romanian defender Cristian Chivu is set to join Inter after rejecting an offer from Barcelona at the last minute.
The Nerazzurri have managed to beat their Spanish rivals with a £9m offer and the transfer could be made official early on Tuesday morning.
At one point during the negotiations Chivu seemed almost certain to sign for Barca, but Beneamata President Massimo Moratti appears to have made the decisive offer.
Chivu was spotted in Milan with his agent Giovanni Becali. The meeting with the club directors is thought to have been successful and the former Ajax star agreed a four-year deal worth £3m-per-season.
With this deal chiefs Rosella Sensi and Moratti have confirmed that relations between Roma and Inter are improving.
Chivu’s transfer follows Chilean midfielder David Pizarro, who moved the other way to join the Giallorossi for £4m last week after the end of his co-ownership deal.
Tosiek 26-06-2007, 12:38:PM Sponsor tecnico, la Kappa ritorna favorita rispetto all’azienda campana
DANIELE GALLI
orpasso? All’ultima staccata, proprio
quando il traguardo era bello
in vista, Robe di Kappa potrebbe
avere affiancato e superato Legea. Si arricchisce
di un nuovo capitolo la saga
dello sponsor tecnico della Roma. A
quattro giorni dalla chiusura del bilancio
2006/07 giallorosso, si profila un vero
duello, un’autentica battaglia a distanza,
tra le due aziende di abbigliamento
italiane.
a gennaio. Attraverso un intermediario
locale - la Legea è di Pompei -
erano stati allacciati i contatti con i vertici
del gruppo campano. Nei mesi successivi,
oltre alla Legea, si era fatta viva
anche la Reebok. Contatti che non avevano
però avuto un seguito. Piano piano,
la Legea era riuscita a convincere la
Roma con un’offerta, economica e tecnica
(su questo punto Trigoria aveva
chiesto precise garanzie di qualità) sostanziosa.
Tanto che la stessa Legea si era
sbilanciata: «Vogliamo portare il contratto
con la Roma a casa, sarebbe un
grande colpo. Se tutto andrà bene, diverrà
il nostro club di punta». Basta cliccare
»: in Serie A l’azienda campana sponsorizza
Livorno e Catania.
ROBE DI KAPPA Il gruppo torinese è storicamente
avvantaggiato.
altissimo. A Torino regna l’ottimismo.
avanzata. Tanto che nei giorni scorsi si
attendeva solo uno scambio di firme.
Questa attesa non sarà comunque inutile,
almeno per gli interessi della Roma.
Che, qualora chiudesse la trattativa dopo
il 30 giugno, potrebbe inserire i proventi
dello sponsor tecnico tra le voci in
attivo del bilancio 2007/08.

Chivu: "Barca offer interesting"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cristian Chivu is close to Barcelona after Roma director of sport Daniele Pradé returned from Spain. “They made an interesting offer.”
The Romanian international is set to leave the Giallorossi this week, but a tug of war has broken out between Barca and Inter.
Transfer chief Pradé flew out to Spain for negotiations and returned to Italy this evening, giving clues to the waiting Press.
“Barcelona made an interesting offer,” said the Roma representative. “I cannot communicate it to you out of respect to the two clubs involved, but I repeat it was interesting.”
The pressure is now on Inter to increase their bid or lose out on former Ajax defender Chivu for next season.
“Roma want £12m for Chivu. We have taken two days to think about it and will get back to Barcelona with a response.”
The reports claim that the Nou Camp side has offered £10m, whereas so far Inter have only managed to propose £8.7m.
“We don’t know about the contact between Roma and Barcelona,” explained Nerazzurri director Marco Branca.
“We have the consensus of the player and hope to reach an agreement with his club as well.”
Chivu met with Inter officials on Monday and it’s alleged he gave them his word to make the transfer to San Siro.
However, this direct approach angered Roma, who are eager to send him overseas instead.
“Barcelona are authorised to negotiate with Chivu and his agent, considering the excellent rapport between the clubs,” added Giallorossi director of sport Pradé.
runBABYrun 29-06-2007, 02:47:PM It will be nice if roma sell chivu for price about £12m or about 18m in euros which is very good price. Roma has already bought Juan from leverkusen so we have replace for chivu in the defence if he leave us. Anyway I hope he will stay at olipico and play with the king - Totti.

yudiray 29-06-2007, 04:50:PM Popescu: "Chivu wants the Barça" Gica Popescu, the one of the former glories of Romania, declared that Chivu contacted it for him to ask pieces of information about the Barça. Besides, it would have unveiled for him that it wishes to rejoin the Catalonia.
Pospescu was the one of the big defender of the years 90. His talent had been worth for him to carry the fine tunic Blaugrana hung two seasons. Chivu contacted Popescu for him to ask pieces of information on the subject of the club as the explained the latter: "Chivu called me to wonder me my opinion. I said for him that it there had to go without reflecting". "It was said me afterward that it wanted to go to the Barça added Popescu. It wants to rejoin this club for as it was said me, the Blaugrana are the favorite ones. I do not think that it too is concerned by money, if the Barça offers a sum being close to the one of the inter, to the end, it will choose the Barça"

CHIVU: WE HAVE THE AGREEMENT OF THE PLAYER
Category: Transfer
After to have participated in the presentation of the new exhausted one, David Suazo, the technical director of the inter, Marco Branca, has reacts on the subject of the next objectives of the mercato of the Nerazzurri. "I know nothing meetings between the Roma and Barcelona, I read the newspapers," said Branca while talking about Cristian Chivu.
"The position is simple: we have not again agreed with the Roma, but in the next days will see us if we can come to an agreement. We are happy, we have the agreement of the player, but it there has not nothing that we could do so as we did not find the one of the Roma." Branca added: "Ca is not finished. With a little patience, we will do quality movements in this mercato, without becoming crazy."

CHIVU RAUS!
Tosiek 30-06-2007, 03:12:PM Spalletti: We had to sell Chivu
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luciano Spalletti concedes Roma had no choice but to sell £12m rated Cristian Chivu and will use the money to further strengthen their attack.
“I understood Chivu’s decision and he was honest throughout,” explained the Coach to ‘Il Romanista’ newspaper.
“His choice was dictated by numbers, his age and motivation. He was offered such an impressive contract and has given us so much, so this must be comprehended and accepted. When we spoke he was very open.”
The Romanian defender’s future has not yet been decided, as although Barcelona have seemingly pulled out of the bidding war, Inter and Real Madrid continue to battle for his signature, with the Nerazzurri leading the way.
The £12m requested for Chivu will prove useful in strengthening Roma’s front like and players such as Victor Obinna, Julio Cruz and Ludovic Giuly have been named among the potentials to be included in the deal.
“In all honesty I’d like any of those three. Besides, we already have Mirko Vucinic and Vincenzo Montella returns from his loan at Fulham. If we find a player with different characteristics, then he’d be welcome. Perhaps we do miss a wide attacker.”
The Giallorossi have been heavily linked with Cagliari winger Mauro Esposito and Udinese’s Antonio Di Natale, so alternatives for Amantino Mancini and Rodrigo Taddei – who were exhausted by the end of the season – are on their wishlist.
“Clearly we have to replace Francesco Tavano and Christian Wilhelmsson on the flanks. Esposito is certainly of interest to us. I won’t comment on Fabio Quagliarella’s quality, as otherwise Udinese director general Pietro Leonardi will go on the radio and complain…”
Udinese reacted angrily earlier this month when Roma stated their interest in Quagliarella and teammate Di Natale.
Roma have returned Wilhelmsson to Nantes and Tavano to Valencia, although the Italian is already back in Italy for Livorno.
The club has also signed some reinforcements such as Bayer Leverkusen’s Brazilian defender Juan, Chievo midfielder Matteo Brighi and Rimini’s Ghanaian revelation Ahmed Apimah Barusso.
“If we do get a defender to replace Chivu, it will be a promising youngster rather than a top star. We already have three mature players for that role in Juan, Philippe Mexes and Matteo Ferrari,” added Spalletti.
Yet there are reports in the same newspaper today that Roma have been offered Cicinho, who does not fit into Real Madrid’s plans after the dismissal of Fabio Capello.
The 27-year-old with a Italian passport had already been close to the Giallorossi last season, but preferred the Merengues and was then out for six months with a knee ligament injury.
Tosiek 03-07-2007, 01:51:PM Chivu nears Real deal Tuesday 3 July, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After a complex saga of many twists and turns, Cristian Chivu is reportedly hours away from signing for Real Madrid.
The Romanian defender’s decision to leave Roma initially sparked a ferocious tug-of-war between Inter and Barcelona, but now it appears he will be plying his trade at the Bernabeu next season.
Real’s director of football Predrag Mijatovic is currently in Rome with agent Ernesto Bronzetti where they are believed to be finalising the deal.
It is widely suggested that Madrid will pay the Giallorossi just over £12m for Chivu.
An official announcement is expected within the next 24 hours.
Tosiek 04-07-2007, 08:16:PM Esposito signs for Roma
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After an intense week of negotiations, Cagliari forward Mauro Esposito has joined Roma in a co-ownership deal.
The 28-year-old Neapolitan arrives on a three-year contract with the Giallorossi paying a fee of around £2.5m for half his rights.
Despite an injury-plagued year, the ex-Udinese man was allegedly scouted by several of Serie A’s top sides, before choosing to move to the capital.
Esposito is set to be presented as a new signing on the Roma Channel on Wednesday evening, but has already made a statement via his personal website.
“To play for Roma with Francesco Totti is a dream come true. I will give my all in this shirt,” he writes.
Cagliari have already sold star striker David Suazo to Inter and will pin their attacking hopes on new arrival Robert Acquafresca who arrives from the Nerazzurri as part of the deal.
The speedy 19-year-old is regarded as one of the peninsula’s brightest talents after an impressive spell at Treviso last term when he hit the net 12 times in 25 outings.

FORZA MAGICA ROMA!!!!!
Tosiek 13-07-2007, 02:47:PM Mancini issues Roma ultimatum
Roma’s Brazilian star Amantino Mancini has reportedly demanded a pay rise or he may consider leaving the Stadio Olimpico.
The 26-year-old excelled in the Giallorossi’s superb 2006-07 campaign, but under his current contract he doesn’t stand to receive any great financial reward.
Mancini’s deal with the capital club runs until 2009 and sees him annually pocket just under £1m, a figure that will only increase to £1.1m at the start of the 2008-09 season.
The Ipatinga-born ace joined from Venezia in 2003 and has reportedly attracted interest from a number of clubs including Juventus and Liverpool.
Until now there has been no indication that the Selecao international will quit Rome, but there were rumours last term that a rift had developed between Mancini and captain Francesco Totti.
It has been suggested that Mancini is demanding £2m per season while Roma’s offer is closer to £1.4m.
The Lupi may give in to the player’s demands at they know his value will decrease as he nears a Bosman deal.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There isn't any comments coming from Mancini himself, so I don't believe it.
Tosiek 14-07-2007, 12:55:PM Montella makes Sampdoria return
Former Italy international striker Vincenzo Montella has rejoined UC Sampdoria eight years after leaving the club, returning on loan from AS Roma for one season.
Roma stay
The 33-year-old has been at the Giallorossi since 1999, having previously played for Empoli FC, Genoa 1893 and then Sampdoria, from where he moved to the capital in a €25m deal. He helped Roma to the Scudetto in 2001 and the following year struck four goals in a 5-1 derby win against S.S. Lazio. Montella has scored 137 Serie A goals, second only to AC Siena's Enrico Chiesa among active players.
Injuries
Capped 20 times by his country up to 2005, he has suffered from a series of back and shoulder injuries over the past two seasons and struggled to earn a regular place in Roma's first team prior to joining English Premier League outfit Fulham FC on loan in January. His problems continued in London though he did manage five goals, three in the FA Cup, and Sampdoria will hope he can rediscover his form of old with the Blucerchiati, who will be in action in the UEFA Intertoto Cup third round next month as they bid for a UEFA Cup place.

Roma, Giuly!

Tosiek 25-07-2007, 08:12:PM Inter close on Chivu
The Cristian Chivu transfer saga seems to be near an end after the defender’s girlfriend announced that he will join Inter for £10m.
The Romanian has been on the verge of moving to the San Siro for the past few weeks and an official announcement is expected shortly.
“Cristian wil join Massimo Moratti’s club for £10m,” Chivu’s girlfriend Adelina Elisei told the Romanian television network Antena Tre.
“His will was decisive, he even agreed to lower his wage demands. He will earn £3.2m rather than £3.9m per season, but he will sign a five-year deal rather than a four-year one.
“As for myself, I hope to travel to Milan tomorrow to see him soon,” concluded the television presenter.
The operation was apparently finalised after a phone call between Inter President Moratti and Roma chief Rosella Sensi, although the two clubs have insisted that no deal has been struck.
However, the Giallorossi are eager to clarify the player’s future before Thursday, when the capital club will celebrate its 80th anniversary at the Stadio Olimpico.
If the two clubs do reach an agreement, Roma are expected to make a new offer for Reggina defender Francesco Modesto.
The Stadio Olimpico outfit are also rumoured to be renewing their interest in Real Madrid’s Brazilian right-back Cicinho as a replacement for Marco Cassetti, who looks set to join Monaco this week.
Finally...
Jaboldinho 26-07-2007, 11:00:AM I hope this really is final now, because I'm so sick of hearing that he's now made a deal with Inter, and then on the next day he's staying in Roma, or going to Barca.

Tosiek 11-08-2007, 09:32:AM Spalletti unfriendly with Juve
Tonight’s friendly match between Roma and Juventus is no summer run-out for Luciano Spalletti. “This will be a decisive test.”
The Giallorossi continue to warm up for the Italian Super Cup clash with Inter on August 19 at San Siro and face rivals Juve in a prestigious encounter.
“This will be a decisive test, for many reasons,” assured the tactician. “For me there is something special in all games against world class teams. That is intensified if you are taking on a side called Juventus, because everyone knows the history.”
The two clubs have long had a bitter rivalry that only deepened after Juve were demoted in the Calciopoli scandal and stripped of two Scudetti.
They’re back in the top flight and will meet Roma again in Serie A in Week 4, the weekend of September 23.
“We will aim for the Scudetto, just as we did last season and the year before that. It all depends on acting professionally and making sacrifices every day.”
However, since finishing 22 points behind leaders Inter, the Nerazzurri have further strengthened their squad with the arrival of Cristian Chivu from Roma.
“They have improved and are without doubt the strongest side in the League. They have so much potential and players who can make the difference, like Chivu and David Suazo.”
Roma have also made changes, bringing in Brazilian defender Juan, Italian international Mauro Esposito and former Barcelona star Ludovic Giuly.
“I complimented the club for their transfer policy. We have lost a few players, replaced others and the market is still open.”
Can't wait(H)
paolo-fcb 11-08-2007, 06:25:PM What's the utility of this match with Juve?
We miss too many players, Ferrari, Pizarro, De Rossi, maybe Perrotta and other ones, we'll play with Andreolli, Alvarez and other players that at the end of august will be away from Roma, so hope to see a good match.

Friendlies: Super Juve sink Roma Saturday 11 August
Juventus fought back from 2-0 down to beat Roma 5-2 in a thrilling and fiery friendly with David Trezeguet’s brace.
This was an eagerly-anticipated pre-season clash between the two rivals and potential Scudetto contenders and was played on ‘neutral’ turf in Cesena.
Ludovic Giuly was halted for a very tight offside position from Francesco Totti’s slide-rule pass and moments later another defensive error allowed Roma to take the lead.
Claudio Ranieri’s side has shown many defensive problems this summer and as soon as Sergio Almiron lost the ball in midfield, Mirko Vucinic rushed forward to stroke a right-foot finish past Gianluigi Buffon.
Soon after Vincenzo Iaquinta dispossessed Christian Panucci, but Pavel Nedved slipped with the goal gaping. Iaquinta went for glory himself, but Alexander Doni came rushing out to clear, prompting an argument between the former Udinese striker and David Trezeguet.
Yet Roma doubled their lead with another soft goal. The entire Juventus defence was caught ball-watching as a long Totti free kick was floated into the box for the totally unmarked Philippe Mexes’ looping header.
Alessandro Birindelli went off with a knee problem, prompting a tactical reshuffle, and Roma nearly bagged a third with a spectacular Totti backheel, but instead Nedved powered forward for Trezeguet’s angled drive into the far corner.
The game was turned around completely six minutes later, again with the French hitman, this time set up by Under-21 international Antonio Nocerino’s inspired disguised slide-rule pass with the outside of his right foot.
The forced tactical change of Cristiano Zanetti in midfield, Hasan Salihamidzic at right-back and Nocerino on the right wing seemed to give Juve greater stability and creativity.
Nedved was furious when his penalty shout was turned away for a clash with Mexes and several minutes later the two players came together in a scuffle. The Czech clattered into the Frenchman and accidentally stood on his hand as they fell, so Mexes got back up to make his point heard in a head-to-head situation.
Alberto Aquilani drilled inches wide after the break and Alessandro Del Piero replaced brace hero Trezeguet.
Roma seemed to run out of steam and Juve piled on the pressure, taking the lead when Christian Molinaro’s shot was charged down, so Del Piero rolled across for Iaquinta to sidefoot in from eight yards.
Tempers frayed between Mexes and Nedved for a third time after the defender brought down Del Piero and the pair continued to bicker all over the pitch.
Nedved had a fierce strike parried by Gianluca Curci, but Juventus went 4-2 up as Almiron chipped up a cross on the counter for Del Piero’s header.
There was a pitch invasion from a lone Roma fan who just wanted to hug his hero Francesco Totti and was peacefully led away by police. He also paused to embrace Italy’s World Cup winning goalkeeper Buffon.
Marcelo Zalayeta used his strength to shake off Mexes and was eventually closed down for a corner, while Buffon performed a splendid save on Totti’s equally stunning free kick.
Roma's capitulation was complete in stoppages, as Del Piero's free kick was charged down and Zalayeta fired in the loose ball.

Spalletti eyes Super Cup revenge
Luciano Spalletti has urged Roma to take revenge for last year’s thrilling 4-3 defeat against Inter in tonight’s Italian Super Cup.
The clash at San Siro between the Scudetto winners and Coppa Italia holders is the official opener to the football season in Italy.
Last August the Giallorossi were leading 3-0 only to crumble 4-3 in extra time to a Luis Figo free kick.
“With the hard work we have done throughout the year, we have earned ourselves the right to contest – and win – this trophy,” said Spalletti.
“This, along with the result that had seemed to be going another way last term, can act as extra motivation for us.”
It was an extraordinary match 12 months ago, as Roma shredded the Inter defence in the first half only to concede three goals and a fourth in extra time.
“We have already shown that we are the equal of Inter and now that the squad has been completed I don’t see why we should go there and give up before we even begin.”
That was not the only meeting between the two title contenders over the past year, as Roma also defeated Inter in the Coppa Italia Final and were the only team to beat the Scudetto winners in the 2006-07 Serie A season.
Yet Roberto Mancini have reinforced their side with ex-Roma man Cristian Chivu and have so many great strikers at their disposal that Adriano has been left in the stands as a tactical choice.
“One must never have an inferiority complex in football. Inter are stronger, but we do not feel inferior to them,” assured the Coach.
“Inter still have to work on some issues of their own. Chivu has some contenders for his place, but I think Mancini will use him because he knows us so well that it can be an advantage for them.”
If the Nerazzurri are able to leave top stars in the stands, then the same cannot be said for Roma, who are without Matteo Ferrari and Juan, so Christian Panucci is expected to play in an unusual central defensive position, but others are recovering from injuries.
“Francesco Totti has completed the training and is in good shape, while Simone Perrotta and Amantino Mancini are also ready. I do have a few doubts over Marco Andreolli, though.”
Roma squad: 17 Alvarez, 30 Mancini, 13 Andreolli, 8 Aquilani, 29 Barusso, 27 Bertagnoli, 33 Brighi, 77 Cassetti, 1 Curci, 16 De Rossi, 18 Esposito, 14 Giuly, 32 Doni, 5 Mexes 23 Nonda, 2 Panucci, 20 Perrotta, 28 Rosi, 11 Taddei, 22 Tonetto, 10 Totti, 9 Vucinic

Tosiek 23-08-2007, 10:52:AM Roma take Cicinho from Madrid
Real Madrid CF have sold Brazilian right-back Cicinho to UEFA Champions League rivals AS Roma for a fee which could rise to €11m.
Busy day
The 27-year-old Cicinho, who qualifies for EU citizenship through a distant relative, has signed a five-year contract with the Giallorossi who finished second in Serie A last season. Madrid's agreement on the deal came as the Spanish champions announced moves for Argentina defender Gabriel Heinze and Netherlands winger Arjen Robben from Manchester United FC and Chelsea FC respectively. Cicinho began his career at CR Botafogo in Brazil before moving to CA Mineiro and then São Paulo FC. He switched to Madrid in January 2006 for a fee of €4m. Roma begin the new Serie A season away to US Città di Palermo on Sunday.
paolo-fcb 23-08-2007, 12:12:PM Nice to have Cicinho, the price is 8,7 millions, ok, but it seems Ferrari is going away.......
justhammy 23-08-2007, 12:43:PM Congratz with Cicinho guys. I mean it. He is a f*cking quality player and you really got him for cheap. There arent alot better than him. Tosiek 26-08-2007, 09:03:PM We are leading 2:0 in Palermo game.

Tosiek 04-11-2007, 09:53:AM Empoli - Roma
Stadio Castellani
Luciano Spalletti returns to his old hunting ground hungry for points after Roma’s crucial derby victory, but Empoli are in a slump.
Spalletti started his coaching career at the Stadio Castellani in Serie C1 back in 1993-94, leading them to two promotions and an impressive top flight 12th-place finish when he left for bigger clubs in 1998. A native Tuscan, he will relish the atmosphere and try to give his squad that extra motivation, as they risk losing focus after back-to-back triumphs over Milan and Lazio.
Still without the injured Francesco Totti, Alberto Aquilani and Marco Andreolli, now Daniele De Rossi has joined the absentee list thanks to a ban. It allows Mirko Vucinic to retain his centre-forward spot, where he has scored three goals in as many games. Ludovic Giuly challenges Rodrigo Taddei for a role in the supporting trident, while Matteo Brighi is expected to step into De Rossi’s shoes. Cicinho and Christian Panucci do battle for the right-back role.
Empoli boss Gigi Cagni has even worse problems picking his line-up, as an injury crisis has struck the club. They welcome Roma without Antonio Busce, Guillermo Giacomazzi, Rej Volpato and goalkeeper Daniele Balli, the latter out for a couple of weeks with a thigh strain. Defenders Richard Vanigli – whose challenge famously fractured Totti’s ankle in February 2006 – Felice Piccolo and Francesco Pratali are also doubts with muscular twinges. The tactician must reshuffle his line-up and is expected to give Under-21 international talents Sebastian Giovinco, Claudio Marchisio and Lino Marzoratti rare starts, while 22-year-old goalkeeper Davide Bassi takes over between the sticks for his first Serie A game of the season.
It is not an ideal situation for Empoli, whose confidence was hit hard by a 3-0 drubbing at Juventus midweek. They had won the admiration of Italy after their shock victory at Milan, but that was followed by a disappointing 1-0 home loss to Atalanta and the Turin trouncing. An on-form Roma is not the opponent they will expect to turn the current tide, but Empoli have won this fixture with a 1-0 scoreline for the last two years running, so anything is possible.
Keep an eye on: Mirko Vucinic (Roma) – Finally given his chance to shine, the former Lecce striker is taking it with both hands. In the three official games he has replaced Totti, he has netted three decisive goals.
Last season: Empoli 1-0 Roma
Empoli (probable): Bassi; Raggi, Marzoratti, Adani, Tosto; Antonini, Marchisio, Moro; Giovinco; Vannucchi, Saudati
Roma (probable): Doni; Cicinho, Mexes, Juan, Cassetti; Brighi, Pizarro; Mancini, Perrotta, Giuly; Vucinic
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
So there's no Totti, De Rossi, Panucci, Aquilani and Taddei. It is really an experimental squad but lets hope we can bring three points home.(Y)

Tosiek 11-11-2007, 03:32:PM Totti micro-fracture mystery
There is confusion over the extent of Francesco Totti’s injury after Bruno Conti suggested it was a micro-fracture to the foot.
The Roma captain limped off during the 2-1 win over Sporting Lisbon on October 23 and has not played since.
An interview with technical director Conti raised more questions over what exactly is preventing Totti’s comeback.
“The first tests showed a micro fracture to the foot and it is causing him a lot of pain. He has to be the one to tell us when he no longer feels that,” said Conti.
“Until it heals and everything returns to normal, he will continue to be in pain. It is a delicate spot, as it’s where he kicks the ball and you cannot put any protection there.”
However, the media storm was quickly soothed by the Giallorossi medical staff, who rushed to explain the situation.
According to news agency Agr, Totti’s injury is a bruise or blood clot inside the bone of his right foot towards the ankle.
The reason this confusion arose was because he is undergoing the same sort of treatment as would be required for a micro fracture.
The captain is expected to resume running next week and undergo new tests to see how the bruise is progressing.
Roma expect to have him back in action for the trip to Genoa.

Taddei 28, 36 (R)
Stadio Olimpico
Francesco Totti made his comeback, but it was Rodrigo Taddei who shone with a brace as Roma saw off Cagliari 2-0.
This match was called off on November 11 after the tragic death of 28-year-old Lazio fan Gabriele Sandri. He was in the back of a car when a police officer's gun accidentally went off, killing him instantly, in a motorway service station near Arezzo. When the two teams did meet at the Olimpico on December 5, Roma welcomed back Francesco Totti for his first game since picking up an ankle injury on October 23. This was a family affair, as Cagliari star Daniele Conti is the son of Roma director Bruno Conti.
Within four minutes Totti had combined with Rodrigo Taddei for the Brazilian to drill just wide, but Mirko Vucinic wasted a golden opportunity moments later. The Montenegrin trapped the ball to waltz round goalkeeper Marruocco, but then incredibly missed an open goal.
Cagliari fought back immediately, as Ferri's left-foot strike skimmed the frame of the goal, then from the resulting corner Alessandro Budel's piledriver actually clipped the woodwork.
This was Nedo Sonetti's third match on the Sardinian bench after defeat to Milan and a 0-0 draw with Livorno. Foggia should have given them the lead on the counter following Juan's error, but rather than passing to the unmarked Robert Acquafresca he ballooned over the bar.
Totti went on a strong run and was brought down by Paolo Bianco, then blasted the resulting free kick into the wall. The captain was then halted when clear on goal for an incorrect offside flag.
Roma finally broke the deadlock on 28 minutes thanks to some dismal defending. David Pizarro's free kick found Taddei totally unmarked for a free header that he could not miss.
Acquafresca was crowded out in the box, but more chaotic defending allowed the Giallorossi - and Taddei - to double their tally. Goalkeeper Marruocco ran out to close down Amantino Mancini as he ran on to a deflected Vucinic through ball, but it came out to Taddei for a precise lob into the empty net. It was the Brazilian's third goal in two games after two months out injured.
Totti's wonderful backheel flick set Mancini running and the low drive shaved the far post.
Cagliari went for broke in the second half, throwing on striker Alessandro Matri for a 4-3-3 system. Daniele De Rossi felt the full brunt of Conti's free kick as it struck him in the face, then Totti created a chance fired wide by Vucinic and the captain's free kick was over the bar. This was Totti's first game in almost two months, so he was substituted by Ludovic Giuly after 63 minutes.
Alexander Doni was tested by a magnificent left-foot Budel volley that was sneaking low into the near corner, but the Brazilian goalkeeper did well to parry.
Roma also attempted a spectacular goal, Vucinic's volley with the outside of his right foot not powerful enough to beat Ballotta. Matri's effort was deflected over by Philippe Mexes and Doni had his palms stung by a fierce Foggia strike.
Conti tried to score against his old club from distance, but it was easily smothered by Doni.
Mancini was very unlucky not to break his drought with a sensational goal, as he moved the ball around to drop his marker and smacked the crossbar with a screamer.
Roma: Doni; Panucci, Mexes, Juan, Tonetto; De Rossi, Pizarro; Mancini, Taddei (Cicinho 76), Vucinic (Brighi 87); Totti (Giuly 63)
Cagliari: Marruocco; Pisano (Matri 46), Bizera, Bianco, Agostini; Ferri, Conti, Budel, Mancosu (Fini 62); Foggia; Acquafresca (Larrivey 72)

Tosiek 09-12-2007, 05:05:PM Livorno 1 - 1 Roma
De Rossi 5 (R), Tristan 6 (L)
Diego Tristan broke his Serie A duck to hold Roma at the Stadio Picchi for the third year running, as the Giallorossi fall five points behind leaders Inter.
Former Roma flop Francesco Tavano and youth product Marco Amelia took on his old teammates and the Amaranto were confident after winning three of their last four games, but the history books warned they had not won this fixture since March 1949. Dario Knezevic was suspended, while Francesco Totti was on show after his midweek comeback from a 40-day injury lay-off. Simone Perrotta, Marco Cassetti and Alberto Aquilani didn't make the trip.
It took just five minutes for Roma to take the lead at the Stadio Picchi. Goalkeeper and lifelong Giallorossi fan Amelia was horribly stranded as he came out for a corner and allowed Daniele De Rossi to get in front of him for the header.
The lead didn't last long, as former Deportivo La Coruna star Diego Tristan broke his Serie A duck with a fine solo effort, as he ran forward, ran rings around Matteo Ferrari and placed a low angled right-foot drive into the far corner of the net.
Tavano wasted a good chance when one-on-one with Alexander Doni and was offside when he tapped in the ricochet from a parried Tristan shot.
Doni propelled himself across the face of goal to parry ex-Lazio midfielder Emanuele Filippini's rising strike and Giovanni Pasquale was unable to make the most of the loose ball.
Totti's backheel flick in the box sent David Pizarro running, but he scuffed the shot wide.
In the second half Tristan ran almost the entire length of the field to drill past the near post, but Tavano had a wonderful opportunity clear on goal only for his shot to be parried by an outstretched Doni foot.
The disappointing Amantino Mancini made way for Mirko Vucinic and he immediately tested Amelia twice in quick succession. The first shot was parried at the near post, then he did the same on the follow-up.
There was chaos at the other end as well. Juan's sliding tackle cut short Tristan's progress as he pulled the trigger from eight yards, then Matteo Ferrari had to close down Tavano on the loose ball.
Roma were extremely unlucky not to take the lead moments later, as from a corner kick Juan's looping header cracked against the underside of the crossbar.
Totti's volley whistled wide of the near post from Max Tonetto's assist and Amelia smothered a De Rossi low drive, then the Livorno goalkeeper rushed out to narrow the angle from Vucinic as he exchanged passes with De Rossi.
De Rossi hit the back of the net with a header, but it was disallowed for a foul on a defender as the free kick was floated into the box. Amelia smothered a Mauro Esposito attempt from close range.
Livorno: Amelia; Galante, Grandoni, Pavan (Rezaei 75); Balleri, Pulzetti (Loviso 86), E Filippini, De Vezze (Giannichedda 70), Pasquale; Tavano, Tristan
Roma: Doni; Panucci, Ferrari, Juan, Tonetto (Cicinho 86); De Rossi, Pizarro; Taddei, Giuly, Mancini (Vucinic 55); Totti (Esposito 69)

Tosiek 02-01-2008, 04:45:PM Totti to renew Roma vows
Whispers in Italy are suggesting that Roma will soon extend the contract of captain Francesco Totti.
The former Italian international is presently committed to the Giallorossi until June 2010, but reports today suggest that he’ll renew that agreement for a further two more years.
Totti has been a one-club man since he graduated through his beloved club’s youth system as a boy and he made his debut for the first-team as a 16-year-old.
Born and bred in the capital, Totti has always resisted the temptation to leave the outfit after Milan and Real Madrid had offers rejected for him.
The No 10, born in September 1976, is now likely to end his career with the Giallorossi before perhaps being given some sort of role at the club.
Meanwhile, Giallorossi scouts are on a German hunting mission with a view to signing a variety of players.
Speculation suggests that a new left-back is wanted with Hertha Berlin’s Gilberto and Ludovic Magnin of Stuttgart both options.
It’s also understood that Stuttgart striker Mario Gomez and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta are being assessed.

The interview for Górnik Zabrze site:
Dyrektor AS Roma: Mam nadzieję, że zagramy w Zabrzu
Here's the last question of posted interveiw:
- Do you know, that match between Górnik and Roma is legendary in Poland?
Antonio Tempestelli says - Si, si... of course, I also know their history. I hope that we'll find an agreement with your club and meet here in Poland.

Nice, let's come on and shout out: FORZA ROMA!
yudiray 12-01-2008, 11:57:AM yeah, FORZA ROMA!!
Tosiek 14-01-2008, 08:29:AM Roma - Atalanta highlights (http://www.romatube.com/videos.php?id=204) from romatube.com (http://romatube.com)
paolo-fcb 14-01-2008, 08:34:AM Atalanta-Roma 1:2
So, 3 points, all ok, but we've to be honest: Atalanta deserved the drawn, Roma good in the 1st half and 2 great goals for Totti and Mancini, in the 2nd half all on defence and with a bit of luck we gain the 3 points, very important, FORZA ROMA!!!!!;)
paolo-fcb 16-01-2008, 11:01:PM Coppa Italia, last 16, Roma-Torino 4:0 (1st leg 1:3)
We destroyed them, all in the 2nd half, Totti (and Giuly) in, Torino out!!!!!:hump::-paul::junior:
1-0 Mancini 59'
2-0 Totti 61
3-0 Totti 73 (pen.)
4-0 Giuly 90'
Now in the last 8 we join Sampdoria.
FORZA MAGICA ROMA!!!!!

Tosiek 17-01-2008, 08:49:AM Everything started when Totti came one the pitch. I don't get why Spal left him on the bench in such an important game.
Xifio 17-01-2008, 10:13:AM I don't get why Spal left him on the bench in such an important game.
- for dramatic effect
- because the stars weren't aligned correctly (ye ... it's a pun ...)
- because his mother told him to
- to bluff bookmakers into lengthening the odds of a big scoreline, so punters could get a bigger payout
i could go on, but that should suffice, no?
Tosiek 17-01-2008, 10:41:AM i could go on, but that should suffice, no?
No, go on please.
Xifio 17-01-2008, 01:30:PM Haha ... "Peace, good pintpot. Peace, good ticklebrain." ... "let that [what I have writ] suffice, most forcible Feeble."
paolo-fcb 17-01-2008, 03:52:PM Totti with the 2 goals of yesterday night has scored 200 goals with Roma!
The trouble is that Vucinic is a SEGA, the absolute zero, we need a striker, I don't talk about guys like Drogba but a good striker, only a good striker, and there're many good strikers who could join Roma, Totti can't play all the matches.
I have a dream: Julio Baptista of Real Madrid, "the beast"....
Forza Roma!
