Zagłebie won the league title first time since season 1990/91. They play nice for the eye, have a few stars which play regularly in NT. Hopefully will sign some fresh blood and start preparing for the big battle.(H)

Zaglebie is the weakest polish champion for years. I understand if you worry about game with Wisla Krakow or Legia Warszawa. Unfortunetly last season these clubs had very variable form and Wisla took 8th (!) place in our league, the worst place from about 10 years!

Here are photos of Zaglebie's stadium: http://stadiony.net/stadium.php?s=15 . There is only 7000 seats (in the past this stadium had 35,000, but now there is empty place). As you can see, this stadium is old and not reconditioned.

Last season Zaglebie played in UEFA Cup (first qualifying round) and lost with Dinamo Minsk :eek: (1:1, 0:0 - decided away goals).

Another thing - on Steaua's official website, they wrote that Steaua will play against Zaglebie Lublin. They made a mistake with name of city. There is no "L" in the middle of city name. The city is Lubin.
Of course in Poland we have city named Lublin, which is bigger and more popular than Lubin. You must be careful, when you want to arrive to Poland and see Steaua's match. Lublin is on the east, Lubin is on the west of Poland.

If I was a Steaua player I would go into this expecting to win but also with caution, after all this team won a championship so they are certainly capable of an upset here.

Only Becali knows the answer to that one. I bet I could scour the Earth and not find you one Steaua supporter who knows why we got rid of him so fast. Elton with Dica would of been amazing in our midfield but for some reason neither Olaroiu or Becali wanted him anymore.

We lost our first friendly 1-2 against Apoel Nicosia. Saw a bit of the match, they were lucky on the last goal and our back four was made out of Klemi Saban, Nesu and two players from the youth team. Also, there was a #4 at midfield who I didn't recognised and the commentator didn't say anything about him even though he had a few good passes. Bicfalvi played really really well, even hit the crossbar at the end (he won't be loaned I'm sure) and Neaga was impressive, he also was our scorer today. Here are some photos:

Piotr Wlodarczyk sign contract with Zaglebie Lubin, your oponent in CL qualifications. Wlodarczyk was Legia Warszawa striker last season. It's very funny, beacause he has nickname "nędza" (in english "misery"). He hasn't got any technical skills. For example he has problems with receiving the ball. He can miss from 3 meters from the goal but he can also score from 30 meters. He's unpredictable. But after all he scores 10 goals in league every season.

We're being lead 3-2 in the second half of the match against Ried. Gurita and Croitoru scored for us, whilst Bicfalvi completely changed the game when he entered and he also hit the crossbar.

If Golanski is as good as advertised then we have found our right back. It sucks that we lost that game today but what can you do with a Ovidiu Petre and Baciu back line :rolleyes:. I'm ready for Goian, Ghionea and Radoi to be back on the field :(, it seems like we never have all three of them healthy at once.

2-0 today with that lithuanian team. it's good that we got a win in austria and a plus that dica and neaga scored the goals (Y). hagi once again made a ton of subs throughout and played the young players for long parts of the match. i hope that in the next few friendlies he will take the opportunity to play the first team and see what kind of results we will get.

We might have got Corvinul's defensive mid/defender Alexandru Iacob, 18yo. Huge prospect, saw him a couple of times, and he's really solid too. He's played 92 matches in total for the youth ranks of the national team. He made his debut at Corvinul at 16. We apparently got him for 200k, some sources from Corvinul say he already signed a contract with Steaua.

Would love us to get him, he's too good to be loaned out and now that Para has left I can see him getting some matches (also he could play as a central defender in harsh times). I got him at Steaua last week in FM (didn't know about the real life interest :$) cause my scouter said he 'should be signed whatever the price' and his value went up to €10mil in 2 and 1/2 seasons.

We got the best right back in Poland for only 750,000 euros (Y). I want to see this guy play, see if he's as good as advertised. I would rather have him at RB instead of Petre Marin who I've never liked at RB. For the period that Ghionea is out I would play this at the back:

That would be an interesting line-up for the first friendly. I don't see why we HAVE TO HAVE a DM in there all the time, why not try out a straight up 4-4-2 with a solid back-line and a young offensive midfield with two great strikers and see what happens. I'm tired of seeing Ovidiu Petre/Lovin/Coman starting.

I must say, our defence looks damn solid. I mean both of our wing-backs are pretty solid for their positions, and defencively skilled. Golanski and Emeghara are a pretty nice way to forget that Petre Marin is getting really old and when he retires it won't be such a big loss (he might even join the staff).

Cernea sucks and Vatca makes some gr8 games but he has some moments when he can kill a game with his mistakes. Anyway, in my opinion , this year, Liga I is a battle between two teams , Dinamo and Steaua..let the best team win ;)

We came from two goals down today to tie against some Polish team that finished second last season, Dica scored two goals. Hagi played Petre in the center of defense again, it's obvious we are much weaker with him in that role. I'd rather have Baciu.

There will be no season tickets for the end sections of Ghencea this coming season. This is clearly a move directed to eliminate hooligans from the stadium but I hope it doesn't eliminate the atmosphere as well (:/). Anyways if it helps us to play with the gates open and with the fans in the stands all year long (unlike last season :rolleyes: ) then I'm all for it. Fans will have to learn to behave somehow.

Zagłębie bought some new players, they have to acclimatize, also they're trying new tacticts and the other stuff. Personally, I don't rate sparings very high though, they are needed to try new things and check form of the players.

1-1 against AEK and from what I'm reading we dominated the game which is good to hear. Here's what Hagi started with:

Good line-up but I'd prefer to see Radoi play next to Goian while Ghionea is injured. I just don't trust Baciu back there and I think we're vulnerable with him starting. I think you sub Bicfalvi with Bostina (who couldn't play because of flu) and that is probably the strongest squad we can field right now. You could make a case for a Neaga-Badea attack with Dica behind them and sacrificing Bostina or Croiturul but I'd say that's about the best right at the moment.

In the second half he made some changes and we finished the game with this team:

not a bad second squad although Ov. Petre should NEVER play as a defender and Coman should NEVER PLAY.

I agree about the change, let's hope it stays that way for good. For the coming games I wouldn't even mind if Petre played as the DM, he can be pretty solid sometimes.

I remember Radoi used to always be the heart of my Man Utd defence, and the biggest bargain on the game. What Steau's youth system like, is there any particular startlet's at your team ?

^ get Ochirosii or Bicfalvi (or both :D) from us when FM08 is released or Ochirosii in FM07 (Y). the first is 17 and the other one 18 or 19.
Bicfalvi will become great irl (he's pretty average in FM07, and you gotta select our league in the playable mode to see him), good all-round AM/FC, with great creativity and shooting. we got him from Jiul, and he also has swedish roots.

they're practically not from our youth system, but meh. only Paraschiv and Nesu are, and the first one left for Rimini. :(

Yeah it looks like Dady and Zapata are settled. The two biggest needs that we needed at the end of last season we still haven't gotten: another central defender and a creative midfielder (:/)

Well the match ended 1-1 and it looks like Hagi still doesn't know what his starting 11 will be :rolleyes:. Man I sure hope we will perform differently when the real games come around or we could be in for a looooooooooong season. I haven't yet lost any faith in Hagi but I hope he doesn't lose faith im himself like he did with all his previous clubs. We'll have to wait and see but man I'm not at all looking forward to our first game. I just don't have a good feeling about it.

PS: no new kits this season, we played in the same ones for our presentation match today. The only change I noticed was that Panasonic was no longer on the kit at all even though the name stayed at the bottom :|. I really hope they are gonna put it on the front and bring the player names back up and still keeping my fingers crossed that maybe we will get a new kit.

We have only 3 (Goian, Ghionea, Baciu) our of which Baciu is weak and Ghionea is injured for quite a while... another option could be Radoi, but he's better in the middle :| besides those two, we have only very young players :S

Looks like we got yet another young stopper (Y), Baciu and Andrey are gone, GOOD RIDDANCE. As for the tid bit at the bottom, I hope that's just Gigi talking out of his ass. We haven't even given the guy a chance for crying out loud. I think he would be great for us seeing how we're gonna be playing so many games this season yet again.

Hmm, baciu had some very good games. He wasn't at the level of Goian and Ghionea, but he wasn't so bad either. He was the first choice for CB susbstitute. And he integrated into Steaua's gameplay pretty good.
We need to have 5-6 CBs so we should've kept Baciu.

About Mardare, i have only heard of him, but i don't know his playing level ... i hope he's good. He's young, this is great :D

I agree Zaharia is a very solid transfer and I think he'll be able to contribute this season. I can see why Gurita might be on the way out in this case. He's now behind Dica, Neaga, Badea, Iacob and Zaharia, so he's basically our 6th choice striker. I personally would still keep him because he's experienced and he's probably a great locker room guy because of his age.

Mardare is pretty much officially over. Ivic however is said to arrive very soon (Y). Camus has stated that he will give his final decision after the Zegleibe draw.

That's way to much man, 2 quality players for each position, and the rest should be filled with youths.

Ovidiu Petre in the starting line-up with all the players fit??? Uhh no. It also means that we would go right back to the two DM formation that we so hated when Oli was coach because there's no way Radoi can fill as a more offensive mid.

I can't say I've seen Zapata play but the GK spot is pretty much a toss-up anyway between him, Cernea and Vatca so that's not really important, I just hope one of them proves to be better than the rest.

Golanski, Goian and Ghionea I see as locks and to be honest I've always though that Petre Marin is an excellent LB and I don't know why all of a sudden everyone is throwing him on the bench behind Emeghara who loses his legs once he crosses midfield. Marin does both the defending and the offensive parts of the game very well and his long rage shots are dangerous so if I were Hagi I would start him ahead of Emeghara.

Nicolita had one bad season and just like with Marin everyone is throwing him on the bench, I don't get it. From the Romania games it looks like he's back in form and ready to play at the level he did when we had our UEFA Cup run a two seasons ago.

Radoi at DM is a lock, I don't care what Becali says about him not playing that position anymore, he is a lock there. Until Ghionea gets back, yes he should be a CB but once he does he should move to DM for good. Croitoru is our best option as a creative mid unless of course Camus comes or Ivic proves to be an old jewel. Hagi played Neaga on the left in a lot of the friendlys this summer and the press was saying that he was performing, there's no doubting his class so I would start him there. If he doesn't perform I would put Cristocea, who is great when healthy or Ochirosii. I just think Bostina is WAY too inconsistent to be a starter but I do see him as a top sub this season.

Dica and Badea up front, you can't go wrong with those two. They combined for 32 goals last season (Y)

Sad news about Camus I really thought that he might come, as for Herea I really hope it happens now because if not we'll have to rely on youth in the form of Ochirosii and Bicfalvi to help us in creative midfield play and you never know what to expect from such young players.

Well we won but I'm no satisfied at all with the matter in which we did. We dominated possession and the tempo of the game was on our side but we failed to create many dangerous chances. Once we scored the goal however, which was a beauty of a header by Goian, we locked down into our own half and allowed Lubin to control possession and press us for the last 30 minutes of the match. If we're going to be playing with this attitude against a team like Zegleibe, what is gonna happen when we have to face the giants of Europe in the groups?

Players I liked:
Goian - played masterfully in defense and scored the very important away goal.
Cernea - all around great performance, he saved the two shots that were on target very well when the team was under pressure towards the end.
Golanski - definitely a solid RB, he was worth the money and I hope he starts from now on.
Radoi - he helped close down pretty much every Zegleibe attack before it happened and had a crucial tackle in the last 10 minutes.

Players I did not like:
Neaga - invisible, he is so out of form at the moment. We are in DIRE need of Badea and Iacob.
Dica - did not play to his usual level but let's not forget that he did get the assist for the goal, I only place him here because I expect so much more from such a great player.
Lovin - a waste of space on the field, I have yet to figure out why he ever ends up on the field. I would trust a youngster like Bicfalvi before this joker.

Don't worry ours will change some things as well. The game plan for the match yesterday seemed to be made by our Italian assistant manager Pedrazzini because that's exactly how we played, like an Italian team playing an away game in Europe, basically dominating possession until scoring then retreating in our own half and defending in a nice organized manner.

In the return leg we're gonna jump on them right from the start because a goal in the first 15 minutes and it just adds to the pressure.

Zeglebie proved to be a solid team, definitely better than competition that we have faced in the 2nd round of CL qualifiers before. They do however have a thing for hard fouls which I didn't respect too much about them.

Zaharia will start tomorrow (Neaga is suspended due to that silly red card). Zapata received his green card so it looks like he might get a chance as well, although I think that would be unfair for Cernea who had a good performance against Zeglebie. I expect an easy win tomorrow, I mean they lost 4-0 to Craiova.

good win but we need to play better this week. Croitoru seems to play better each game although i missed the Farul game. With Bostina out, I also want to see more of Ochirosii.

Anyway no matter where he has played before and the things he has said I think this is a f*cking brilliant transfer. He's an offensive midfielder, the position we were missing and he's in fantastic form right now! To be honest I don't know why the big fuss was made about Camus, after all nobody ever saw him play one minute yet we were treating him like some kind of saviour.

Plesan is a good player, but how can somebody say what he said... I'm sure nobody believes what he says, even Gigi knows Plesan is just kissing asses.

Anyway, I think Vrsic really can show some class football, he just needs some more days to get used to his new teammates. He played only 10 or 15 minutes in the match with Poli Iasi and he showed some good stuff, he's a kind of Totti, but younger and not so good, but if he works hard I think he can reach at least 75% of what Totti(his idol) done. :D

Any news on what the transfer fee/salary are or is it all hush hush.

Yeah I agree, he's that offensive minded midfielder that we have been missing, the reason why there's always a gap between or DMs and our forwards, hopefully Plesan will fix that.

BTW I was reading an article in GSP where apparently Gigi offered him $20,000 more a year to come to Steaua to which Plesan replied "I don't need $20,000 more I'll come for the same salary Dinamo is offering" which shows that he has some character, then again that could all just be GSP bulls*it (H)

We started play in the 2nd qualifying round and drew the champions of Poland, Zeglebie Lubin. The first leg was away and we won 1-0. The return leg is in Bucharest this Wednesday. If we win the draw then we will play the winner of the BATE Borisov - Hafnarfjördu draw in the 3rd qualifying round. So we have a very good chance of reaching the groups again as long as we take care of the polish team this Wednesday. I don't think either BATE or that Icelandic team would give us any trouble.

We'll play against either Bate Borisov (champion of Belarus) or Hafnarfjordur (Iceland). But Bate Borisov won 3-1 in Iceland, so they're almost qualified i'd have to say. If we get past Zaglebie Lubin, we'll play Bate Borisov, which is said to be much weaker than Zaglebie. Poland>Belarus so i'd have to agree on that :)

First game against Bate Borisov is in Belarus and the 2nd leg in Bucharest (inferno).

But first we need to qualify in the 3rd round ... because, after the draw, seeing that the 3rd round opponent is the weakes possible team, Zaglebie Lubin players will be very very motivated.

Man the game is two days away and I'm getting nervous. Just like the first leg I'm gonna see it at a friends house. He has the total package for that Romanian dish thing and he gets the Antena 1 and Kanal D Liga 1 matches so I'm always at his house when Steaua play (H)(Y).

I only saw the second half but I have to say that I was very happy with:

they all were fantastic in the second half

Golanski's free-kick from 30m (Y). Petre Marin was fabulous once again, so did Radoi, Croitoru and Dica. a bit disappointed with Neaga's huge miss and with his overall performance but I bet he'll get over it. great performance by Nicolita and Zaharia was good too.

Zapata - didn't bring the safety needed in the net, he could've been fouled at the goal but he seemed quite a liability at the back. Starting him in such an important match when it's obvious he doesn't know the language (we all know how important this is for goal keepers - just look at how much Lobont talks with his teammates) was a mistake IMHO. Maybe he'll be quality but he had about 3 blunders tonight that were very Carlos-esque

Golanski - fantastic player, i love him, one of our best tonight. I think he'll shine in a position that was troubling for us after Ogararu left. Can't wait to see more of him and his awesome freekicks :D

Radoi - meh, never been the same after his injury about two years ago. Sub-mediocre if you ask me.

Rada - i like him and we needed him in the defense. Imagine today's game if Baciu was Radoi's pair in defense :-puke:

Petre Marin - great as usual

Ovidiu Petre & Lovin - meh, same old same old. I'm not a very big hater of the two, we owe our 2nd goal to Petre' (who scored some other important goals for us). Loved the commentator's remark regarding one of Lovin's actions: "A trecut si el de un jucator si dupa aia a cazut"

Croitoru - EXCELLENT! a joy to watch :D not the fatso i remember from last year

Nicolita - yeah he scored a goal but that doesn't change the fact HE'S RETARDED. If he would have half the brain and vision that Dica has he would be a world class winger

Dica and Neaga - both had their moments to shine but both were kind of dissapointing. We desperately need Badea's skill and stamina

Zaharia - scored a sitter, Claudiu Raducanu style. Wouldn't like to think what would've happened if he somehow managed to miss that shot

I just saw the highlights, Poli's goalkeeper was having a helluva day out there. Radoi's, Dica's and even Plesan's shots would of been goals on most GKs in the league. 5 out of 5 victories to start the season :fluffy:

Neaga is said to be a starter tonight, if he doesn't start scoring fast he'll end up ruining his rep and fan support in Ghencea.

We really need Badea and Iacob back. We can't play without a true forward... i hope Neaga will start scoring also. For his morale mainly !!!

But our guys came out in the second half and really took control of the game in every single way and created many chances to score and we also got 2 goals. The tying goal in the dying seconds was just pure bad luck and should of never happened. I knew this BATE team was gonna be tougher than everyone thought but if we play like we did in the second half today two weeks from now we shouldn't have an issue.

Bicfalvi definitely needs to start, I don't care if he's 19 years old, Hagi needs to realize that this kid is really talented and can seriously help us out there. The second half today was better than anything with saw with Olaroiu last season that's for sure, no more of the long ball of death, good riddance (Y). It's gonna take a while for the players to get their bad habits out of their systems but I'm sure by midseason we will see a very entertaining Steaua.

Well actually the 3rd attempt was a different penalty kick then the other two. Stealea saved the first but players had ran in the box so it was re-taken, he saved it again (by catching it) and ran with the ball motioning to throw it when a Unirea player ran to him to celebrate him and touched the ball even though it was in play which resulted in a handball and another penalty from which they scored. Probably the funniest sequence I've seen in sports in a long in a long time :evil:
