History:
September, 1893. Out from nothing, as a secret ambition unfolded by a tough and inflexible reality, F.C. Porto has been founded. António Nicolau d´Almeida, a fine sportsman and an expert Oporto Wine trader, invited, in the quality of F.C. Porto president, F.C. Lisbonense to a football match. It was the first appearance in a football match for the club, the most ancient page written in a hundred years of history.
Deep and insightful enthusiasm marked the years that followed F.C. Porto foundation. To unite the efforts of the local community with the strong English representation in Oporto was the goal of José Monteiro da Costa. This led to extinction of Grupo Recreativo «O Destino» in favour of F.C. Porto. It was the beginning of a solid structure.
The founders were men strongly determined to engender a symbol, an emblem or an icon, in which future generations would have pride on. Their remarkable initiative is still remembered. Blue and white were the colours chosen, as meaning of pureness, calmness and stillness of mind. The colours were represented, at that early time, in the Portuguese flag.
F.C. Porto evolved his purposes to national and universal goals. In the first emblem, the symbol was, of course, a football ball with the F.C.P. initials. Twenty years later the Oporto city shield becomes vital part of F.C. Porto badge. In 1948, the 3-2 victory over Arsenal, team at the time known as the best team in the world, was a proof of the blue and white potential.
Over the years F.C. Porto grew as the conquests were becoming bigger and as his purposes were becoming greater. The symbol of a region astounded the country and surprised the world. De 1980’s were probably the most memorable decade. In 1987 and 1988, F.C. Porto conquered the European Cup, the Intercontinental Cup and the European Supercup, outstanding deed, a proof of the success of special approach in how to deal with sports. Few years later, F.C. Porto achieved a goal that no other club in Portugal dare to accomplish. Five Championships in a row was a remarkable act, another great page in the club's history.
Nowadays the world has changed and Portugal too has evolved. Sports reality is now more complex, but F.C. Porto remains at the top. The club remained winning and the dynamics persist, continuing to be a flag of the region. F.C. Porto has now representation all over the country and all over the world.
The Centro de Treinos e Formação Desportiva PortoGaia and the Dragão Stadium are modern standard of a vanguard difficult to be equalised. The future shines as a reflex of the conquests of the UEFA Cup, in the season 2002/03, of the UEFA Champions League, in 2003/04, and the Intercontinental Cup, in 2004.
Beyond the reality that surrounds football, F.C. Porto showed his greatness in other sports. The honours achieved speak for it. The club that has a Dragon as a symbol holds the Championship title in basketball, handball and roller-hockey, the sports that more cheer up the portuguese. Billiards, swimming, athletics, adapted sport, motor sports, boxing, camping, chess, fishing, karate and weightlifting give also the contribution to this history of success and insure the diversity and necessary involvement in community well being.

FORÇA PORTO!
mark77 04-07-2007, 12:12:AM Bolatti was also rumored with us. I think he's a defensive mid and I hear he's very good.
I also heard about the Pepe rumors but they had Miccoli included in them. Benfica fans wouldn't be happy with this. :D I don't think he would agree to play for Porto because of his days with Benfica. I hope he does though. :p

:f***:
no really, wouldn't be the first time Miccoli would change to a rival, done it before with Ternana and Perugia...
but i heard Palermo is one step close to sign him... i just don't know... i'll have to wait and see :S

yup, heard the same about Bolatti :D
I really hope he's that good, since the whole thing was a huge soap-opera thanks to Depor and some ******* judge.
we were going to get the player for 1,1M € but thanks to them we had to raise the offer to 2M € :nape:
about Pepe and Miccoli, I really doubt it's gonna happen...like you said, I don't think Miccoli would "betray" Benfica.
but we can always make a deal if you manage to offer us at least 25M € which is how much our board is asking for Pepe :brow:

Yeah, I read for 4.8m € :S You guys could of got him for 5 last year. I wish we could get at least 6m € for him.
yup, heard the same about Bolatti :D

We're having trouble getting Milito for 18m € so...:(
Jorge Costa available for cheap? lol
MaSsiVe 04-07-2007, 01:38:AM he's coaching Braga now!
maybe you could still buy him for your FM team though (H)
mark77 04-07-2007, 02:00:AM yeah I know, right after he retired. You could see that was gonna happen just looking at the way he played.
btw, Fernando Couto's still playing. :o :D
MaSsiVe 04-07-2007, 02:04:AM haha he's gonna become Parma's biggest legend ever (H)
Moreira_Benfica 04-07-2007, 02:17:AM so it looks like they have agreed a fee for Quaresma, but he doesnt seem to happy in playing for Athletico, i think its a good move by him, i mean he should at least go to a team thats in the CL
MaSsiVe 04-07-2007, 03:03:AM where did you get that from?
there's nothing in the portuguese media...
Javyol 04-07-2007, 07:04:AM so it looks like they have agreed a fee for Quaresma, but he doesnt seem to happy in playing for Athletico, i think its a good move by him, i mean he should at least go to a team thats in the CL
Damn, I wanted him to come to us.
MaSsiVe 10-07-2007, 05:32:AM seems like Pepe is heading for Real for 28M € and Lucho to Valencia for 20M €.
great money arriving, great players leaving :(
Moreira_Benfica 10-07-2007, 05:47:AM Pepe is going for to much, and wow porto is getting money but there are sure losing quality players
MaSsiVe 10-07-2007, 05:49:AM we'd only get 10M € for Lucho though, 50% of his passe belongs to someone else.
I wouldn't mind much is Lucho is sold for that kind of money, the first season was his best with us and since then he got to play around 150 straight matches which really is a lot, and it was noticeable in the last part of the last season how tired he is.
his (short) performances in the Copa America also showed the same...it's probably the best timing for him to be leaving.
now Pepe, we surely will miss him like hell man....
Moreira_Benfica 10-07-2007, 05:51:AM o that sucks then, but yea if Pepe, Lucho also leave then im pretty sure Quaresma will for sure not be going
MaSsiVe 10-07-2007, 05:54:AM he'd better ******* not leave :(
in case both deals go through, we definitely have to find quality substitutes fast.
Crusad3r 10-07-2007, 10:17:AM 28€ million for a seriously injured player?
WTF another Woodgate !!
RuiCosta_10 10-07-2007, 11:23:AM 30 Million?!
I don't know if i should laugh or cry, i mean, Pepe is great, but 30M?!
Real was COMPLETELY owned! Another fantastic deal for Porto, i don't know how you can do these deals, i really don't know...
Crusad3r 10-07-2007, 11:30:AM What can you tell us about Pepe?
For 30€ millions you must tell us he is much better than Carvalho and the new Beckenbauer...
BTW what aboyt his injury?
RuiCosta_10 10-07-2007, 11:32:AM What can you tell us about Pepe?
For 30€ millions you must tell us he is much better than Carvalho and the new Beckenbauer...
BTW what aboyt his injury?
i don't think he has any serious problem with an injury, you can relax about that, he's no better than Carvalho, imo, might get as good as him, but no better...
MaSsiVe 10-07-2007, 03:45:PM who the **** came up with that injury crap :|
he's physically a perfect football player.
Moreira_Benfica 10-07-2007, 04:19:PM 28€ million for a seriously injured player?
WTF another Woodgate !!
getting circumsised as a kid if normal back then, its not as seriouse as it looked, so relax hell be fine
but yea.. i dont know what injury your talking about unless your thinking of someone else
Paulo Da Silva 10-07-2007, 04:56:PM PEPE is not injury prone at all i do not know where you herad that. pepe is a brilliant centreback, fast, strong, great header, anticipation, great positioning, etc. But 30 million is too much to say no to. Now we defintaley need new players. We need at least 2 wingers, 1 centreback, and probably another fullback. Hopefully we can make a deal with Real Madrid to loan Marcelo a couple of seasons so he can grow and get better.
Socrates 10-07-2007, 05:00:PM who the **** came up with that injury crap :|
he's physically a perfect football player.
I think Crus is talking about the knee ligament tear that he had a while ago or atleast that's what was reported. This was at the end of your season when it was reported to have happened. I also thought he was injured from that report but I guess not?
MaSsiVe 10-07-2007, 05:35:PM the injury he got by the end of the season left him out for a month or so but still came back in the last game of the season in perfect conditions.
so don't worry, he'll arrive "clean" at Real.
Crusad3r 10-07-2007, 06:00:PM Yeah, some months ago we got many news about Madrid interested in Pepe, but later we got news also about he was seriouly injured so Madrid forgot about that player.
MaSsiVe 10-07-2007, 07:54:PM seems like Palermo's Mariano Gonzalez is close to signing for us...he was on loan at Inter last season but didn't play much I guess, at least I only got to watch him a couple of times...
we do need a winger so this deal may actually become a reality.
Moreira_Benfica 11-07-2007, 04:29:PM Hey Massive, do you think Vieriniha will get much playing time this year? he seems like he gots some potential
MaSsiVe 11-07-2007, 09:11:PM he's been loaned out to Leixões, and I do hope he gets to play regularly there.
looks like Mariano Gonzalez is already a done deal, but I'll wait until there's something on our site.
today we played our first match of the pre-season in Holland, against SC Irene.
10-0 was the result, with Postiga (2), Quaresma (2), Adriano (2), Bruno Alves, Lisandro, Rentería and Edgar making the scorelist.
another rumour:
Manuel da Costa (PSV) -> Porto
would be great (Y)
MaSsiVe 13-07-2007, 12:43:AM Ibson will be loaned out to Flamengo for one year...but he also extended his contract with us until 2011 (H)
hopefully he'll have a good spell in Brazil and will back with us next season, I really rate the him highly.
smoove 13-07-2007, 10:41:AM I've always been impressed with Ibson, hope he'll actually return to Porto. (Y)
MaSsiVe 14-07-2007, 10:06:PM 2nd match in Holland, this time against Den Bosch.
4-0 was the final score, goals by Lisandro, Postiga (penalty), Rentería and Tarik.
good result considering that we were down to 10 men since the 33rd minute because Lisandro was sent off :nape:
Tosiek 14-07-2007, 10:20:PM Do you know where I can find any pictures of that match?
MaSsiVe 14-07-2007, 10:57:PM not right now I don't, but I'll PM you later in case I find some pics.
may I ask why you want them?
edit
PM on it's way.
MaSsiVe 15-07-2007, 03:31:AM ok since I found good pics I thought I'd post a few, with some of the new players in action :jacko:

KAZ! (H)
This is you answer(H)
Thanks a lot for these pictures. You may see me very often in this thread in upcoming season. (Y)
MaSsiVe 15-07-2007, 05:57:PM be my guest dude :jap:
I'm really anxious to watch the new kits in action though, guess we'll have to wait for the game against Monaco.
on other news seems like half of England wants Lucho, with City, Tottenham, Villa and West Ham all in the chase.
for what I read he shouldn't leave for less than 24M € which is the release-clause.
that way we could still profit 12M € since we hold only 50% of his pass.
Tosiek 15-07-2007, 06:29:PM :jap:
Is is certain, that Lucho will leave?
On the pictures Kaz was wearing number 8 which belongs to Lucho, so is it going to be his number? When is the next match? :)
MaSsiVe 15-07-2007, 06:42:PM not certain that Lucho will leave of course, but he's very likely to.
about Kaz wearing #8 I guess it's only a coincidence, since Lucho is not with the team right now and they play in sort of the same position.
but if Lucho ends up leaving I reckon Kaz would get the #8 shirt :shades:
the next match is Thursday in Belgium against Genk, you can check all the schedule for pre-season (and everything else (H)) in the first page of the thread.
Tosiek 15-07-2007, 06:44:PM Thanks for information Massive (Y)
Porto, Portugal
Saturday, July 28th:
Boavista x Porto (Friendly)
I must watch this match:D
MaSsiVe 16-07-2007, 04:57:AM yeah should be a badass match dispite being a friendly (Y)
btw the next match is Wednesday, not Thursday...sorry for that.
and I've just read that Lucho is as much as gone :(
but Mariano Gonzalez is arriving today (Monday) to do the medicals and hopefully sign a contract, so at least there's something to cheer for.
Tosiek 16-07-2007, 11:39:AM Mariano Gonzalez seems to be a quality signing for Porto. I saw him a few times at Palermo and Inter lately. The lack of Lucho in midfield will be a big loss, but I hope Kaz will fulfill that empty space. (Y)
Also, I have to admit FC Porto have an awesome official site. It's easy in navigation, there's no need to have an account to view any pictures and other stuff. Simply and effective (Y)

MaSsiVe 17-07-2007, 09:11:PM
I wonder why Drogba mentioned our interest, we probably can't even afford his underwear.
would be our greatest move ever after Jardel though :D
btw Funkmeister, I understand your pain. you seriously need that sig change asap (H)
Palermo's Mariano Gonzalez signed today, year loan with buying option at the end of the season for 2M € and a 3 year deal with player.
hopefully he's as good as Anthony says, we really needed a quality winger coming our way.

Filipower 17-07-2007, 09:19:PM what about a centerback?..i hear we're linked with Manuel da Costa..
MaSsiVe 17-07-2007, 09:45:PM he denied any contact from us:
Em declarações à Antena 1, o central português Manuel da Costa negou qualquer contacto com o FC Porto para a substituição de Pepe no eixo da defesa azul e branca. “Não tenho nenhum contacto do FC Porto”, começou por dizer o jogador do PSV Eidhoven, da Holanda.
“Estou contente aqui. Sou importante. Até hoje, nem os dirigentes do clube nem eu tivemos nenhum contacto do FC Porto”, disse.
these are the other CB rumours so far:
Luizão (Cruzeiro)
Milan Stepanov (Trabzonspor)
Onyewu (Newcastle)
Van Damme (H) (Anderlecht)
if we end up getting VD, the next step has got to be the signing of The Norris.
Filipower 17-07-2007, 09:52:PM Van Damme is kind of a FM06/07 legend..anyway i want a ******* rock at the back..not a "xabalito que sabe cortar bolas"...come on, we got 30 million for pepe, we can do better than onyewu
MaSsiVe 18-07-2007, 09:03:PM can't really think about a good CB Fili, the ones I wonder about are already taken by richer teams :(
we'll eventually get someone good enough for the spot though...
the match against Genk just ended and we lost 1-0, Bruno Alves got sent of by the half hour because of an elbow :kader:
we could have ended the first half winning but we didn't take our chances, then in the second period we tried to get the draw but Genk didn't leave much space at the back and with a man down a comeback would be a difficult task to achieve.
still it was nice watching some of the new players in action, especially Fernando did extremely well as our RB (Y)
waiting anxiously for the game against Monaco, Lima and Mariano will be playing for the first time with our shirt and who knows there might be surprises coming :shades:
Filipower 18-07-2007, 09:34:PM ...like a centerback:(
and Didier (6)
Tajike 19-07-2007, 01:46:AM still it was nice watching some of the new players in action, especially Fernando did extremely well as our RB (Y)
I was in Genk at the game (videoclips to follow) and I try to concur but just can't. Really, this guy is no Porto material.
My match review cross-posted from the FC Porto-World forum:
Was in Genk today (don't worry, I'll have some videoclips up and running on youtube tomorrow) and have the following to say before I go to bed:
On a negative note:
- This team clearly needs to gel together and the new faces need some more time to get in the right pace of things
- Our defence is a mess. Period. We really need a classy CB to take things under control. And no, Pepe having left is not the cause: Fernando, Lino etc. ARE NO PLAYERS OF PORTO CLASS. A second period. Luckily these guys won't see much first team action this season.
- The following players were disappointing: Bruno Alves (why do we keep this guy around?), Jorginho, Quaresma (had 2-3 opponents around him at all time; his flashes of genius were true genius, though), Cech (big fan of him but seemed out of place at times), the above mentioned Fernando & Lino, Adriano (how many clear goal scoring opportunities can you miss?)
On a positive note:
- No Pepe in the team
- A strong will to perform well and to proof something was shown throughout the game.
- I actually liked the work our midfield put up. Always active and creating attacking impulses. I liked it a lot.
- The following players captivated me: Bosingwa (big presence on the right), Assunção (the more I see him play, the more I'd like to have his baby), Nuno (I never thought highly of him but today he showed to be a decent temporary replacement for Helton), Bollati (showed great gusto in the defensive line)
In short: we need two players (CB and striker) and we need a bit more time to get this team in shape.
I don't take this game vs Genk very serious as we were 'handicapped' by the absence of several players and because of the many substitutions. I liked our first half a lot, thought the second half was mediocre.
MaSsiVe 19-07-2007, 03:00:AM I was in Genk at the game (videoclips to follow) and I try to concur but just can't. Really, this guy is no Porto material.

ok Taj you didn't like Fernando, but you thought Bosingwa was great on the right.
thing is Fernando played the whole match in the right so I reckon the "big presence on the right" you were refering to was directed at him...since Bosingwa didn't even play :p
btw Fernando is a DM, Jesualdo has been using him as the RB because we don't have Fucile with the team yet.
I disagree with several points from your review but it's all good, different views on the game I guess...
in other news, we are being linked with Nunes from Mallorca now.
Milan Stepanov from Trabzonspor seems most likely to join us though, their president inclusively confirmed a "verbal" offer coming from us...
Tajike 19-07-2007, 03:17:AM ok Taj you didn't like Fernando, but you thought Bosingwa was great on the right.

Sorry, my bad. Was told by one of the SD Holanda members it was JBos on the right, with Fernando having taken over in the second half.
MaSsiVe 19-07-2007, 03:25:AM so the truth is you loved Fernando in the first half and hated him in the second, mistery solved ;)
I also think he was better in the first period, but so was the whole team...the sending off really took the game away from us.
Tajike 19-07-2007, 03:38:AM so the truth is you loved Fernando in the first half and hated him in the second, mistery solved ;)

I agree wholeheartedly with this post.
MaSsiVe 19-07-2007, 05:10:AM well, we had to agree on something :D
seems like Stepanov will be presented Saturday in the match against Monaco and Postiga really is leaving for Levante.
we'll spend 4M on Stepanov and get 4M for Postiga so our budget will suffer no damage (H)
these are 99% confirmed since this is oJogo's cover:
http://www.ojogo.pt/artigos/23-148/pri.jpg
they also mention Nunes, but we don't really need 5 CBs in the squad, 4 should be enough...
Filipower 20-07-2007, 01:48:PM this is the guy? couldn't we do better having 60 million euros? jesus christ.

On Stepanov: don't know what to think of him. Heard some good things about the guy and MaisFutebol had the following to say after the Serbia vs Portugal U21 game about him
Sounds good enough to me
Seems we're also on the brink of signing Farias from River Plate to strenghten our striker position
MaSsiVe 20-07-2007, 09:59:PM nice vids Tajike, short but loud crowd (H)
and the shirt looks good, tomorrow we'll finally get to watch it in action :bob:
about Stepanov, all I know about him is what I saw last year in the U-21 tournament and I must say I agree with that review from maisfutebol (H) lets hope he confirms all the expectations...
Farias should be the forward we need, I got to see him with River a few times and he really showed he can score goals.
though his experience in Europe was with Palermo where he scored 0 goals in 13 matches :(
MaSsiVe 21-07-2007, 11:20:PM the match against Monaco just ended, we won 2-1 with Lisandro and Postiga scoring for us and Pino for Monaco.
pretty boring match which didn't surprise, both teams are yet to reach form...nice to watch some of the new players in action though, even if they didn't do very well except for maybe Bolatti who really seems to be pure quality (Y)
the new kits as expected were in action tonight, we were gonna wear the away one in the second half but during HT the referee decided that it could be mixed with Monaco's so the players had to use the home shirt again, even if with the away shorts
will post some pics as soon as they're available :shades:

Paulo Da Silva 22-07-2007, 11:56:PM i actually like the kit with the white shorts very nice. Either way the JERSEY LOOKS AmAZING, absolutely a beauty
MaSsiVe 23-07-2007, 12:11:AM yeah I love it too, not so sure about the away shirt though, I'll have to watch it in action a couple of times before I can form a definitive opinion on it...
#1 Stunna 23-07-2007, 05:27:AM Farias should be the forward we need, I got to see him with River a few times and he really showed he can score goals.
though his experience in Europe was with Palermo where he scored 0 goals in 13 matches :(
No offense to ANY Porto fans here but I really hope Farias does jack sh*t if he has signed with you guys. Like I said no offense but I want nothing but the worst for a player who a coach convinces the owner of a not so rich club to manage to pay 4-5 million for him, he arrives at Toluca, agrees to a 4 year contract, gets presented to the fans... THEN, he backs out. "My wife cant get used to the city shes sick." Only after less than a week? Gimme a fu*kin break.
MaSsiVe 23-07-2007, 05:43:AM he hasn't signed, but is likely to arrive tomorrow.
none offense taken btw, I understand your point of view dude...
some news:
- seems like Lisandro extended his contract until 2011 :bob:
- Leandro do Bomfim has been released...about freakin' time.
- AEK are trying to get Bruno Moraes, Académica apparentely want Rentería on loan.

STML1 23-07-2007, 06:20:AM That's a sweet ass looking shirt. If Porto happens to sign a Mexican player, I'm definitely buying it. (H)
Tosiek 23-07-2007, 08:34:AM I didn't see Lucho on any pictures, so does it mean that his move to other club is decided?
Paulo Da Silva 23-07-2007, 04:20:PM the media is reporting that lucho shall stay this season.
Our line-up looks very good this season
-----------------Helton---------------
Bosingwa---Stepanov-B.Alves----Fucile
---------Bolatti-----------------------
---------------------Meireles---------
--------Lucho------------------------
Quaresma------------------M.Gonzalez
--------------Lisandro----------------
Thuis us damn good, plus we have great options on the bench:
L.Lima
L.Aguair
KAZ!!!!!
P.Assucao
Postiga
Adriano
GREAT IM GETTING EXCITED ABOUT THIS SEASON. RUMO AO TRI
Tosiek 23-07-2007, 04:26:PM I'd put Kaz instead of Meireles. You need such a fighter as Kaz.:jambo:(H)
MaSsiVe 24-07-2007, 01:51:AM haha Anthony (H)
I'd replace either Meireles or KAZ! for Lima, the kid's great and with Bolatti/Assunção plus Lucho we'd have the defensive coverage taken care of.

no? :(
MaSsiVe 24-07-2007, 11:40:PM nice, but did it have to be Jorginho? :(
hopefully he'll **** off somewhere else.
Paulo Ribeiro and Steven Vitória will play for Olhanense next season on loan, Rentería will probably be loaned out to a french or spanish team.
Filipower 24-07-2007, 11:49:PM he was the first guy i remembered that could pass off as a mexican..:(
MaSsiVe 25-07-2007, 12:35:AM come on man, you had 2 Uruguayans and like 5 Argies or so to pick from and still went for a Brazilian :nape: (H)
speaking of Argies, Ernesto Farías has signed a 4-year contract with us.
http://www.fcporto.pt/Imagens/17752.jpg
back at you Ernesto (Y)
espero que este cabrão destroque...
Filipower 25-07-2007, 12:37:AM yeah, but i really don't like Jorginho.
MaSsiVe 25-07-2007, 12:49:AM fair enough, you missed the dick in mouth and offensive forehead writings though.
Filipower 25-07-2007, 12:50:AM well, there's only so much time i can spend staring at his face while editing it :D
MaSsiVe 27-07-2007, 01:31:AM tonight we played the Daihatsu Trophy in Italy, celebrating Atalanta's centenary.
our opponents were Red Star and then the hosts, each game lasted 45 minutes and we won them both 1-0 (Y)
Adriano scored against Red Star with a spectacular bicycle-kick and Lisandro scored versus Atalanta after a great play envolving him, Quaresma and Edgar.
as time goes by the team looks more solid, the new players start to fit in Jesualdo's gameplan and all of them already look pretty much at ease in the pitch...
and we're still missing Helton, Lucho, Mariano, Lima, Farías, Stepanov...things looking good (H)
MaSsiVe 27-07-2007, 05:02:PM Stepanov finally signed for us, let's hope he's good enough to replace Pepe...

MaSsiVe 27-07-2007, 06:26:PM haha (H) my bad...I guess :(
MaSsiVe 29-07-2007, 01:15:AM Boavista-Porto was tonight, we won 3-0 (Y)
finally I watched Mariano in action and oh man the dude seems to be very good. he played LW and did great, a lot of speed and strength, good individual technique plus great crossing and vision.
out of the other new players I just didn't like like Edgar much, everyone else was good especially Lima...kid's like cotton (H)
the scorers were Postiga (following an awesome cross by Mariano down the flank) and, amazingly, Tarik got 2 :|(H) he really did have a very good game and the goals were both beauties.
another "good" headache for Jesualdo... :brow:
I could name every player that did well tonight but I'd be here all night, our performance was almost perfect tonight and we are still missing a few key players...again I say it, future looking extremely bright :sun: (H)(Y)
Tosiek 29-07-2007, 03:04:PM Massive, could you post the line-ups and photos if you have, please? :)
MaSsiVe 29-07-2007, 11:39:PM line-up + substitutions:

MaSsiVe 02-08-2007, 11:16:PM new developments in the last couple of days, with Fernando being loaned to E. Amadora, plus Jorginho is not in Jesualdo's plans ( :bob: ) and will probably go to V. Guimarães.
on another note, Lucho is being linked with Real Madrid, Postiga with Betis, Quaresma with Fiorentina ( )
also, Maurico Isla from Universidad Catolica claims to be very close to signing for us. if it happens, he'll be loaned out for 5 months before he joins our squad.
we'll play against Feyenoord tomorrow and Shanghai Shenhua on Sunday, for the Rotterdam Tournament.
here's the list of players called:
Goalkeepers
Helton, Nuno, Ventura.
Defenders
Fucile, Lino, Cech, Bruno Alves, João Paulo, Pedro Emanuel, Stepanov.
Midfielders
KAZ!, Paulo Assunção, Raul Meireles, Bolatti, Leandro Lima.
Forwards
Tarik, Lisandro, Mariano Gonzalez, Quaresma, Adriano, Farias.

yeah the match ended 0-0 and was pretty boring, only a couple of goal chances for each side but that was about it unfortunately.
Feyenoord now must beat Liverpool in order to help Porto clinch the cup (H) , the chinese shouldn't pose much of a threat for us I guess.

Two goals by Leandro we're two mistakes by the goalkeeper. What had you expected of Feyenoord ?
MaSsiVe 06-08-2007, 09:43:PM better tbh, but I also expected better from Porto in that game...both teams were way too cautious.

I don't know... I mean, I was overwhelmed by the Boa-game where we played perfect. But this tournament was a bit of a letdown: the cautious, almost lazy game vs Feyenoord and the game vs Shenhua where we underestimated the Chinese and played accordingly (must say Meireles had a brilliant game). Hope we can screw our performance up a notch when it matters next weekend.
MaSsiVe 07-08-2007, 03:39:PM I know what you mean Kris ((H)), I was also very pleased with the Boavista match but one has to remember they were sh't which made our task easier....in Rotterdam it was really noticeable how tired the players were which took a lot from our game, and it's true that the team was a few gears down of what it should be.
against Sporting we will be more audacious I reckon, it's our first official of the season and the players will eat the grass...
I'm confident man (Y)
Filipower 07-08-2007, 05:17:PM Kris ((H))
oh no you didn't, Marco (6)
MaSsiVe 07-08-2007, 05:29:PM oh I did, Filipe (H)

Paulo Da Silva 07-08-2007, 07:32:PM Porto have just bought the other 50% of Lucho rights for little over 6 million euros. Great move, great great move.
Now our starting line-up looks absolutely brilliant. I really think that if we play to our full potential we can easily win the league.
Some more rumours. Edgar to Leiria. Does that mean Postiga will stay with the team?
Starting Line-up according to what i saw in preseason.
===============Helton===================
Bosingwa=====Stepanov=Alves===========Fucile
==============Bollatti==================== Assuncao (Back-up)
========Lucho========Meireles=============
Quaresma==========================Gonzalez
==============Adriano=================== Farias once he gets used to things.
Leandro Lima should also get a serious look in. with Benfica and Sporting looing very caca this preseason we should be fine.
For the Sporting game JF should put Bruno Alves in the box on free kicks cuz sporting have suffered there this year.
MaSsiVe 07-08-2007, 08:26:PM great news about Lucho (H)
Pedro Emanuel should be the main starter in what concerns our CBs, in my opinion of course.
between Alves, JP and Stepanov, I can't really choose right now. Jesualdo will surely pick the best one...
the rest of the formation is ok by me, the truth is we have many and good alternatives in the squad (Y)
MaSsiVe 09-08-2007, 03:30:AM ok the shirt numbers have been decided, here's the list:
1 Helton
2 Bruno Alves
3 Pedro Emanuel
4 Stepanov
5 Marek Cech
6 Paulo Assunção
7 Quaresma
8 Lucho
9 Lisandro
11 Mariano
12 Bosingwa
13 Fucile
14 João Paulo
15 Lino
16 Raul Meireles
17 Tarik
18 Bolatti
19 Farías
20 Leandro Lima
21 Luís Aguiar
24 Ventura
25 KAZ!
26 Castro
28 Adriano
29 Edgar
30 Rui Pedro
33 Nuno Espírito Santo
Postiga didn't get a number which means he's most likely out of the squad, plus no #10 has been given which may indicate that some other player is coming for the attack :brow:
also, Tarik grabbed a spot! well deserved for him (Y)
this leaves us with 27 players, if that #10 comes makes it 28...but considering that Ventura, Castro and Rui Pedro are gonna be part of the squad mostly to gain experience, 28 players will be fine by me.
Tosiek 09-08-2007, 09:03:AM 25 is pretty weird number for a key player for upcoming season, isn't it?(H)
But who cares, numbers do not play... (Y)
Mikey 11-08-2007, 04:43:AM you guys would know more than anybody else... is there any chance Quaresma might leave this summer? the italian press has linked him with Fiorentina, have the Portuguese media mentioned this?
MaSsiVe 11-08-2007, 04:51:AM don't think so Mikey, our president gave an interview yesterday where he said that Quaresma is not leaving as of yet.
and yeah the news about a Fiorentina interest got here, but wasn't even considered by the board.
Anthony bro, seems like KAZ! is gonna start against Sporting :brow:
so the first official match of the season is coming within hours, here is the list of players called up:
Goalkeepers
Helton, Nuno
Defenders
Bosingwa, Bruno Alves, Mareck Cech, Fucile, João Paulo, Pedro Emanuel
Midfielders
Bolatti, KAZ!, Leandro Lima, Paulo Assunção, Raul Meireles
Forwards
Adriano, Edgar, Lisandro, Mariano Gonzalez, Quaresma, Tarik
likely line-up:
----------------Helton----------------
Bosingwa-Bruno Alves-P. Emanuel-Fucile
-------------P. Assunção--------------
---------R. Meireles----KAZ!-----------
Lisandro----------------------Quaresma
---------------Adriano-----------------
I'm predicting 2-0 for us, Adriano and Lima to score (H)
Moreira_Benfica 11-08-2007, 07:01:AM 1-0 Sporting
Veloso
Tosiek 11-08-2007, 08:17:AM Ha(H) I knew it. Your coach couldn't be so stupid to do not bring KAZ! to the starter 11.
I predict 2:1 for Porto, Lima and KAZ! to score from the free kick(Y)
MaSsiVe 11-08-2007, 08:44:PM dude he's not starting after all, Cech will be our left midfielder.
15 minutes for the match to begin, Força PORTO! (H)
MaSsiVe 11-08-2007, 10:53:PM we lost 1-0 with a great goal by Izmailov, but how ******* unfair was this result man.
we hit the post 2 or 3 times, got a clear penalty in our favour not called, and Sporting scored in just about their dangerous go at goal.
we didn't play well, but Sporting didn't do any better...the match was sh't.
oh well, hope we start better in the League...
Mikey 11-08-2007, 11:24:PM Ive seen Quaresma a couple times in the past, and was pretty impressed, and he looks amazing in all the compilation videos, but is he really that good week in week out?
im only curious because hes one player ive hoped to see land in Serie A for a long time
MaSsiVe 11-08-2007, 11:27:PM well today he really sucked ass, nothing went his way :(
but last season for example, he was very important for us in several periods...when the team wasn't delivering, he always came forward for us and won us some matches.
in the last couple of years he improved his consistency a lot and is now a more complete player.
he just needs to work on his cockiness :nape:
Tosiek 12-08-2007, 10:30:AM I was truly convinced that Porto will win it.
It's all about lack of KAZ!...:(
bmpv666 12-08-2007, 03:30:PM well today he really sucked ass, nothing went his way :(
but last season for example, he was very important for us in several periods...when the team wasn't delivering, he always came forward for us and won us some matches.
in the last couple of years he improved his consistency a lot and is now a more complete player.
he just needs to work on his cockiness :nape:
nevertheless he still had some good moments. remember that freekick off the post in the first half?
he didn't play bad, but he also was far from what he can do usually...
anyway, IMO FC Porto had a miserable game. and Jesualdo waited to damn long to do something about it. Kaz was in just moments before Sporting's goal...
MaSsiVe 12-08-2007, 08:30:PM KAZ! (H) that shot off the post would've been a really great goal. the bend on the ball was incredible, we're used to watch only Quaresma pull those out of nothing (H)
and IMHO Quaresma was our worst player yesterday, if we consider what he didn't do for the team.
he lost a sh'tload of balls and ****ed up too many of our attacks...you may think that I'm being too harsh, but the truth is that if I was Jesualdo he would've been the first player subbed out.
in the end we were unlucky, we didn't play well but it was more than enough to deserve at least the draw.
like I said before, lets look forward to the Liga Betadine.
we have a very good squad and as soon as the new players are fully integrated in the group I'm sure we'll perform better.
Filipower 12-08-2007, 08:36:PM wow, it's good to see someone who's not me trash Quaresma every once in a while..
MaSsiVe 12-08-2007, 08:51:PM oh he does manage to get on my nerves from time to time...for example yesterday, I really wished someone would just kick his gay ass out of the field. it's like he wasn't even trying...
and I can't stand his excessive whinning when he thinks he's been fouled, it's true that he gets a lot of pau but many times he just behaves like a spoiled (gypsy) brat.
...there you go Fili (H)
MaSsiVe 19-08-2007, 06:01:AM Braga 1-2 Porto :rockman:
seems like Quaresma read my rant!
hj5lWTTMhZU
incredible (H)(Y)
Jaboldinho 19-08-2007, 09:00:AM As Bruce would say: B-E-A-UTIFUL! All you need to say, really.
Tosiek 19-08-2007, 09:20:AM Awesome (Y)
Did KAZ! appear on the pitch yesterday night?
Capela 19-08-2007, 12:59:PM great win by porto, but it weren't for "harry potter" you wouldn't have won
ps: no Anthony, kz didn't play (at least until 80 minutes he didn't, then i watched benfica)
MaSsiVe 19-08-2007, 08:55:PM great win by porto, but it weren't for "harry potter" you wouldn't have won
yeah and if it wasn't for João Pinto, Braga would've lost 2-0 :O
btw KAZ! did not play, the players subbed in were Postiga, Mariano and Lima.
the match was really good by both sides, we had almost twice as much shots and attacks than Braga which says a lot in the end about how deserved our win was though.
we played some nice flowing football for several periods of the match and the players showed loads of will, this is the way I enjoy watching us perform (Y)
MaSsiVe 26-08-2007, 10:53:PM Porto-Sporting 1-0 FT (H)
much better game than the Supercup one.
our first half was really good with us having more possession, shots and attacks throughout so we really deserved to be ahead by HT. Quaresma almost did it again with another of those super-fks, this time the ball hit the bar though :(
second half basically started with the goal and from then one with just had to control the game and did it extremely well. especially in the final minutes Sporting put some pressure on our defense but we handled it with few problems...
MoM, probably Assunção (Y)
(or Stojkovic (H))
Filipower 26-08-2007, 10:56:PM Meireles did great too, but honestly i only listened to the relato..
MaSsiVe 26-08-2007, 11:06:PM well it's true that Meireles did really well (basically the whole team did ok) but Assunção was a beast in the midfield, it was rare to see someone actually getting past him.
Postiga sucked ass, almost forgot to mention that. hope we get rid of him asap and get a useful striker...
btw

(H)(Y)
Tosiek 27-08-2007, 09:09:AM KAZ! has picked worst club that he could pick. He doesn't play at all, therefore I don't feel any joy of watching FC Porto without him.
No KAZ!, no joy...:(
we want KAZ! we want KAZ! :bob:
Filipower 27-08-2007, 04:25:PM you guys were expecting him to play every game? haha.
Tosiek 27-08-2007, 05:57:PM At least in one. haha
MaSsiVe 28-08-2007, 12:10:AM he has very tough competition dudes...not to mention that none of the new players has grabbed a spot in the starting 11 as of yet.
some cool pics of the match:

bmpv666 28-08-2007, 12:14:AM we just need to improve our finishing...if it wasn't for that error from Sporting's keeper, and i doubt we would have scored one...and yet we had many chances to do so, but failed all of them.
oh btw, today i saw Pedro Proença! it appears that he goes to training at the EUL complex...it was funny to hear the comments from some folks who were there :D
MaSsiVe 31-08-2007, 05:58:AM so it's Liverpool, Besiktas and Marseille.
could be much worse, I obviously expect nothing but the 2nd spot minimum...
on other news Jorginho signed for Braga, Pitbull and Bruno Vale were loaned out for one season to Setubal and Varzim respectively.
btw does anyone have a clue what is Bruno Moraes' situation?
sold, loaned, released, kidnapped, raped or even killed are my bets...
É um adversário difícil" by José Anigo, marseille's coach
that's brilliant
now seriously i think porto has great probabilities of going through
besiktas is strong at home but porto's is better in the overall. i don't really know marseille but i don't think they have the experience nor the quality to beat porto. liverpool is tricky but benfica eliminated them 2 years ago so you can do the same
SCP19O6 31-08-2007, 10:48:AM btw does anyone have a clue what is Bruno Moraes' situation?
sold, loaned, released, kidnapped, raped or even killed are my bets...
Who wants a player that has a 6 months-long injury? I would put my money on kidnapped, possibly by his own father :S
É um adversário difícil" by José Anigo, marseille's coach
that's brilliant
José Anigo was the coach in 2004 but now he is manager. He has a strange past especially with "mafia" in Marseille, but he is the link between the club and the supporters from Marseille. He thinks he knows football but he doesn't know Anderson and Nani are in Man Utd.. He said "Difficult draw for Man Utd, and Sporting is a really good team with a great young player, Nani" :X
Our season start is crap and Anigo is reposnible of that. We have a coach, Albert Emon, but I'm pretty sure Anigo is doing the squad. He takes players just for their names, and not for what they could bring to the team. Example, he sold Drogba for 35M€ but this money has disappeared... And he sold Ribéry to Bayern for 10M€ this year, 16M€ later and 4M€ for his performs.
Anyways, this draw is difficult for us. Porto is still a good team, I guess better than us. I hope our games will be great, and we have to take a revenge this year :p Look at our best players: Lorik Cana, Djibril Cissé, Mamadou Niang and of course, Samir Nasri, new France NT playmaker (H)
Good luck ;)
Capela 31-08-2007, 01:17:PM is really nasri that great ? i've never seen him play but i heard he's the new zidane
anyway i'll get a chance to see him agains porto in champions league
and i meant to write manager not coach
Tajike 31-08-2007, 01:24:PM Opinion time:
*Liverpool: quite overrated in my mind. Last season was a let down for them (15 points behind or something). Draw in England, win at home
*Marseille: this is the team I fear the most as they might cause an upset in this group. Draw in France, draw/win at home
*Besiktas: next to Eastern European teams it's the Turkish teams which might cause the big teams the most problems. Don't know much about them though., so I can't say what to expect against them.
Obviously a first or second place in our group is guaranteed
Guillaume 31-08-2007, 03:52:PM is really nasri that great ? i've never seen him play but i heard he's the new zidane
anyway i'll get a chance to see him agains porto in champions league
Nasri is only 20 but he plays at high level since 3 years. Last year, he was awesome as a playmaker, with Ribéry. Maybe the best Marseille's player. This year is a bit difficult because he was injured 1 month in july, so he missed practice. I think he'll be ready for this CL! :)
Samir Nasri is not a spectacular player like Ricardo Quaresma or Cristiano Ronaldo. He can do it but he just want to be efficient, like Zidane but he's faster than Zizou, he can run 50m keeping the ball. Nasri is definitely better than Zidane at the same age. I hope he could continue, and have an amazing career as Zizou.
He's already in France NT, and in France, it's amazing for a player of this age. In Portugal, C. Ronaldo or Nani have started early but in France, young players have to wait. Ribéry started at 23, Zidane at 22...
Samir Nasri and Karim Benzema (Lyon) are our best hope for future so... Just wait and see. I think they'll play in big teams in 2 or 3 years.
You can see some of his peforms on this video:
http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/Samir+Nasri/video/x29s21_samir-nasri-compilation_sport
MaSsiVe 14-09-2007, 11:57:PM players called for tomorrow's home match against Marítimo:
GKs
Nuno e Ventura.
DFs
Bruno Alves, Bosingwa, Marek Cech, João Paulo e Stepanov.
MFs
Lucho, Raúl Meireles, Leandro Lima, Bolatti e Paulo Assunção.
FWs
Quaresma, Tarik, Mariano, Lisandro, Farías e Edgar.
no P. Emanuel, Adriano or Postiga (injured), no Helton (unfit), no Fucile (tired), no KAZ! (polish).
on the other hand Farías will probably make his debut plus Lima or Mariano will surely have more time on the field.
I have a feeling we'll have an easy win, 4-0 with Farías scoring all 4 goals :mrpimp:
Filipower 15-09-2007, 12:02:AM haha :p
i wanna see Quaresma--Lisandro--Tarik against liverpool, though.. not so fond on tarik, but we have to take advantage while he's on form
Hepoas 15-09-2007, 12:08:AM I got a question.. Did Quaresma play the UEFA Champions League final for some years ago?
Filipower 15-09-2007, 12:10:AM nah, Quaresma came to Porto the next year, as a part of Deco's move to Barcelona..
MaSsiVe 15-09-2007, 12:11:AM haha :p
i wanna see Quaresma--Lisandro--Tarik against liverpool, though.. not so fond on tarik, but we have to take advantage while he's on form
yeah tbh I'd rest Quaresma and Lisandro for this match and start Mariano on the wing plus Farías on the middle so that they can be 100% ready for the CL...
like you said Tarik is on good form and it probably won't last (not to mention that he stops running after ~50') so I'd give him as much playing time as possible right now.
after the 2-0 it's a matter of throwing Lima, Edgar and Bolatti in there so that other key players (Lucho, Assunção e.g.) could rest for the Pool match.
Filipower 15-09-2007, 12:13:AM i say Jesualdo out, you and I in next season (H)
Capela 15-09-2007, 12:17:AM i hope jesualdo stays in porto for a long time
as for the match, without makukula it'll be tough for maritimo but i think they can make a good result in Dragão
Filipower 15-09-2007, 12:18:AM i hope jesualdo stays in porto for a long time
why? you like to lose?
MaSsiVe 15-09-2007, 12:23:AM truth is there are not many Porto fans liking Jesualdo's work, but I do and really believe he can lead us to great success https://assets1.twitter.com/system/user/profile_image/734753/normal/borat.jpg
Capela 15-09-2007, 01:05:PM why? you like to lose?
yeah man i love to lose
and i hope i keep :drevil: losing :drevil: with jesualdo as porto manager
Filipower 15-09-2007, 03:20:PM don't get me wrong, i don't like him too, but saying that you want him to stay here for years to come when just last year he won the liga it's a bit...huh...stupid.
but yeah i'm not very fond of him neither, then again it's a bit like quaresma: i don't like him but if he's doing well for my team i'm not totally against it :p
Capela 15-09-2007, 03:40:PM i really don't think he played a very important part in winning the liga
he had the squad already made, and with some good players. benfica and sporting were very "inconsistentes" and lost a lot of stupid points
most of the times i disagree with his options, seeing it in a porto fan perspective, so that's why i want him to continue
Iamthe1 15-09-2007, 10:04:PM Quaresmaaa! :) good going.
MaSsiVe 15-09-2007, 11:10:PM 1-0 against Marítimo, ******* islanders gave us a hard time but we managed to do enough to grab a well deserved victory. Lisandro (H)
next stop, Champions League :bob:
MaSsiVe 24-09-2007, 06:03:PM 5 wins out of 5 matches in the League so far, things are looking good (H)
I didn't get to watch yesterday's match closely because I was at work but I guess we managed to score early and control the lead, then the second goal basically killed the game in our favour.
Lisandro again in the scorelist this time with a double, dude's on the way to becoming a legend among us supporters: always gives 100% during the time he's on the field and manages to play well and score regularly...not much else we could ask from him (Y)
here are some pics from the match:

now the League Cup match against Fátima follows...what happened with Atlético last season should be a warning for the players not to take this one lightly.
Dá-lhe Porto! (H)
