Just wondering who your favourite musicians in general are.
One of my favourites would have to be Ben Folds.
He's a great singer and one of the best piano players I've ever seen.
He can also play Bass and Drums.

Mark Knopfler :p

If we were going for musicians based on how they play their instrument, talent, uniqueness etc, I'd probably go for:

- Bryan Adams (fantastic songwriter)
- David Gilmour (plays a ton of instruments, great composer)
- Matthew Bellamy (fantastic guitar/piano riffs)
- Damien Rice (for sheer raw emotion)
- Tom Waits (unique, great songwriter)

And Mark Knopfler of course for his playing but that'd be too cliché for me to put in my list :p

My favourties to perform would be Metallica and Green Day.

Broken up these are some of my favourite elements
Songwriting - Neil Young, Metallica
Guitar - Metallica, The Who, Ozzy
Bass - Metallica (Cliff Burton, Jason Newstead, Rob Trujillo)
Drums - Metallica, Blink 182 (no questions asked :)

Mike Patton - singer/rapper/crooner/etc
(Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Tomahawk and many others)
Simply THE most amazing vocalist in all of rock music, he can and has done pretty much anything imaginable with his voice, and he's still going strong. LEGEND

Danny Carey - drummer (Tool)
My personal drumming-God. Great technique and creative way of playing. I'd kill to have drumming lessons from this man.

One my way to Roskilde, so I can't be arsed adding more for now....see you all in a week's time. (H)

Couple I forgot to add:

- Neil Morse: plays pretty much every instrument at a professional level
- Pick Withers: revolutionalised rock 'n' roll drumming in the late '70s

Damien Rice is great. Frank Sinatra is another one. Josh Homme is a god. And Dave Grohl is also worth mentioning.

My favourite has to be Pete Doherty. Probably not the best, but he has something very special. What he does in his personal life doesn't interest me at all.

First of, Matt Bellamy. Yeah, he's god. Fantastic guitar and piano talent, and great, I mean, GREAT vocals. Only needs to work his songwriting.

Jack White is amazing as well. Very creative and he absolutely jokes with a guitar in his hands.

Other than those 2, which for me are the best musicians in the planet right now...there are so many I like as well...Thom Yorke, Dave Grohl (I prefer him on drums actually)...etc, etc...

Jon Anderson - amazing voice, great showman
Jimi Hendrix - when he performs live, it's just  + he revolutionized the guitar
David Gilmour - best composer all time, guitar seems to be a part of his body (Y)
Vangelis - When you listen to his songs you are simply in trance...

Of course there are more which are at least as good as the ones I specified here...

P.S.: Maybe we can finally get a music forum...:(

I don't know why we don't have one, really.

Been discussed several times. Mods said that if you want one, make more threads about music. There aren't enough posts about music to justify a forum, apparently.

Well make an effort and post more threads about music, or write in the music related threads.

I know he's been mentioned several times already...but David Gilmour is amazing. Bob Dylan has to be up there for his songwriting...genious.

-gasps- Y-you swore! You, you swore!!!

Anyway, is adding another subforum really that hard? I mean, maybe if no current mods want it, someone could volunteer to mod it. Me, I don't see the difficulty, but I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to boards.

Wash your mouth, now, that made me sad.

David Grohl... amazing
Jimi Hendrix... just the greatest
Cristopher Norton... You probably don't know him, he's a jazz pianist and I've played 3 of his songs so far and I really like his style.
Mike Shinoda... very versatile, he can rap, play guitar, play piano, and he ain't that bad singer either.
Hammett and Hedfield... both are heavy metal guitarist gods.
John Frusciante... great guitarist, songwriter and not that bad of a singer.

Just some, there's too many to list here, I think it would take like 10 posts.
