In the beginning of the Copa America, Brazilian coach Dunga was criticized for his overprotective strategy with the positioning of the Brazilian national team. Now after a 6-1 victory over Chile, this placement with the "seleção" is really taking its own place. With Uruguay up ahead, this defensive scheme may be just what the doctor ordered. With Brazil not tactically proving themselves in the attacking midfield phase, a European strategy can probably work out, with Gilberto Silva, Mineiro and Josué, playing in the midfield, in their supposed positions, Brazil demonstrates ironically a more offensive team with leading goal scorer in the copa, Robinho in the attack, as a fan i definitely see Brazil beating Uruguay in 90 minutes to secure a final against a possible Argentina (which would be a classico garantido...) or Mexico. If Dunga were to face either team, the way this team is lined up (without great stars such as Ronaldinho, Kaka, Ronaldo, Adriano, Ze Roberto) this defensive line up would work quite well, i think..what do u guys think?

Brazil should never play defensive

BTW Brazil is not playing a defensive stragety IMO, almsot all their players have more offensive qualities than defensive

Help?

Dunga called a country hero after just 3 **** performances and 1 good one. Damn, brazilians are easy to please. Madrid should learn

na, brazil definitely turned upside down, first it seems that diego and anderson cant handle the starting position against the south american teams, as they freeze on occasion. Plus with the players we got its exactly how the saying goes "the best offense is a good defense, and liek i said, with the players we got, its better to have a stronger defense, than our offense, cuz all brazil needs against Uruguay and mexico/argentina is a stronger defense to push the attack.

on another note, mineiro, gilberto silva, and josué more defensive than offensive, plus gilberto at left back doesnt push up as much as he should, and 1 julio baptista as amf, is definitely more of a defensive team, and its so far working out, since this brazilian team isnt as skillful as the past.

If Brzil starts to play a defensive style, footbal is doomed :(

Mineiro has been probably been the best player for Brazil after Robinho.

Dunga should try to be a little more audacious in his line-ups, wouldn't do much harm to take out Josué for Diego or Anderson.
ok they had their chances and didn't quite grab them, but I'd give one of them a start without thinking twice because they're quality players and surely won't always underperform...

Then we are doomed ages ago...

1994 and 2002....

94 was way more defensive than 2002. Our 2002 had some samba style on it, even tho we played 3-5-2. Our wing-backs always pushed up, Rivaldo was a joy to watch, Ronaldo was on a monstrous goalscoring form and Ronaldinho would run past anything. Now 1994...

Dunga, national hero? For 1994, I hope.

He's been very very lucky so far, getting a weak, troublesome Chile in the second round, then Uruguay managed to lose a PK match that was theirs to win...

Even if Brazil wins Dunga won't be a hero. I don't where this comes from. He is being heavily criticized right now.

I always thought WC '94 had a very offensive Brazil, with Romario and the likes, but I was 3 at the time, so...

Offensive Brazil in 1994? Our team most of the time was a pain in the arse to watch from what i remember. We mostly played counter-attacking style. It's just that we had more quality upfront than we have now (aka Romário on top form).

Well Brazil is the underdog in the final against Argentina, and i wont be surprised if brazil comes out victorious in this game.

If we do beat the argies, I'd say it's more about the individual brilliance of some players than the tactical knowledge of Dunga.

I'm worried that we might be too over reliant on Robinho for today's match then.

One thing I think people need to understand about Dunga's strategy is that the defensive midfielder he introduced has the same role he did in '94 when brazil won the world cup, this player then leaves the attacking players he has put in a lot more freedom, because they have someone to cover for them. It is similar to how Man Utd used Carrick as a holding player/playmaker, as he can set the quick attacking players off at the start of a move, which helped on the counter attack. So in some ways the defensive player helped Brazil be better going forward. At least in my opinion anyway
