Arsenal v Fulham
Emirates Stadium, Ashburton Grove
Sunday Aug 12
1200 BST

First of 20 London derbies this season
Fulham have never won at any of Arsenal's four home grounds (Plumstead Common, Manor Ground, Highbury, or the Emirates Stadium)
Arsenal embark on a record setting 82nd consecutive top flight season
Several players will make their debuts
Brian McBride is Fulham's new captain, Kolo Toure will captain Arsenal in Gilberto's absence.
McBride was Fulham's leading scorer last season with 12, 9 in the league. Robin van Persie was Arsenal's leading scorer hitting 13, 11 in the league.
Referee: Phil Dowd (Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire)
Last season at Arsenal: Arsenal 3-1 Fulham (Julio Baptista 4, Emmanuel Adebayor 84, Gilberto 87 pen; Simon Davies 74) Ref: Mark Clattenburg, Apr 29 07

I don't think we'll lose since we have no English players and only England lose to Northern Ireland.

Arsène Wenger has confirmed that William Gallas will captain Arsenal during the coming season.

The centre back, who joined from Chelsea less than a year ago, will be supported by vice-captains Gilberto and Kolo Toure on the pitch while Jens Lehmann will have a role off it.

Speaking to Arsenal TV Online on Thursday lunchtime the Arsenal manager outlined the reason for the change. Wenger is in charge of a very young squad this term so he needs to use every scrap of experience.

“[The captain] will be William Gallas,” he said. “There will also be two vice-captains, Kolo Toure and Gilberto.

“I feel centre back is always the best position to lead on the pitch and it is Gallas who has more experience at the back. But Gilberto has always been a great captain and Kolo Toure has a stature too.

“Aswell I made a decision that I want all those experienced players, along with Jens Lehmann, to be involved off the pitch. Players like Jens and Gilberto can play the role of a club captain. They can have a very strong impact mentally on the team. I want them to take on that responsibility.”

sh*t.

He was gonna hand in a transfer request unless they made him Captain. This comes after Gallas threatens to quit Arsenal because, in his words," They have no ambition".

Who in their right mind would make this donkey a club captain?

noone outside of England gives a **** about those games. Lmfao. Most of Asia will watch the Manchester derby for a start mate. And your telling me nobody outside of England will care about Arsenal vs Chelsea ? Look at the people posting in this thread, then look at their nationalities, and see who cares about English derby's. Think before you type.

To be honest, I don't really give a **** about any derby match that doesn't involve my team. Real - Barca is just a great game to watch for me.

Most people in England don't give a **** about the derbies excluding their teams. They don't have a stigma of self-importance about them.

where do you see Arsenal vs Chelsea in his post? i was refering to the fact that his list wasnt exactly a good statement against Sevillista's post. to be honest, the Villa - Birmingham one was just out of this world, the rest are okay, but that one? atleast i know of one more english derby now, but seriously, people will **** their pants laughing if i tell them thats a derby :D.

Sean Denny, yeah i know what you mean, although i enjoy all the big derbies. it probably has more to do with my different usage/understanding of the word derby compared to what its supposed to mean. to me, Villa - Birmingham means 2 ****ty teams playing, and i'd never consider it a derby. to me it means an important game, a big game.

Exactly. Each London team has eight derby matches this season. They simply can't hold the same weight as the derbies in other countries. That's not to say that they're not exciting matches.

Of the 5 London area clubs in the prem right now.....(hell even when Charlton was still around) Interms of sheer warlike competitiveness and importance, of those 5/6, probably only two (Hammers a third this season, I suppose...we need to sweep those ****ers) of those really matter....atleast to me anyway as an Arse fan living far abroad....can't speak for the locals who are going to games week in and week out, even going so far as to bust their asses to travel to the away games, of course. I mean, the challenge that our local area rivals pose to us is always immense, but that doesn't mean that I'm getting my dick as hard for a Fulham/Charlton game, as I am for a Spurs/Chelsea one, man.

Anyway, I definitely understand where yer coming from, man. The bottomless number of rivals in London that are so bunched up together does kinda trivialize and water down the significance of the term 'Derby" somewhat.

We should just make this the "The prem is back" thread. I'm feeling pretty hyper today. Been up since 7 and already been out to buy a chair... and now just hovering between TV and PC waiting for the big kick off.

As a Newcastle fan I am almost conditioned to know such a sense of anticipation normally leads to great disapointment, so we'll probably get toppled by Bolton.

No he's not, if he was sh*t then he wouldnt have lasted five minutes at United, despite a couple of seasons in the first team. He's got talent and needs a consistent run in the first team to really prove what he can do - just look at when he was at West Brom on loan, he was great for them.

"It's disappointing not to create more chances or score but a clean sheet is very important. It's a good platform to build on."

LOLzer.....spoken like a true Italian.....oh wait a minute!......we need more coaches who treat a tie as a two point loss instead of a one point gain, man.

He just irks me tremendously, that fat-faced turd, man. Something about 'em just gets my blood boiling whenever his face is shown on the tv.......he looks like a degenerate and demented farmbeast....the sort of farm animal that you sequester and quarantine from the rest of the herd.

LOLzer....I know, eh? They defend considerably worse than their NFL namesakes, St. Louis.....which is saying a lot right there, man....to be more atrocious and ****ty than the Rams at defending....how sad!

If I was the FA Chairman, I'd demote them back immediately on the grounds of their display thus far being detrimental and highly embarrassing to the league's reputation, man.

Anyone else besides me looking forward to the Citeh/Villa game today, man? So far this season, they've been two of the best teams to watch (aesthetically speaking) from a neutral's perspective, man.

CMON VILLA.....errr......here's to a good game.....5 goals or more

if yer a gambler, I'd consider laying some heavy wood on the total goals outcome of this game today, man. 2.5 or more goals is paying +118, and I think that's a sweet price since there will be 3 or more goals scored.
