View Full Version : History of the World Cup Patch (cmp)

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT FILES FOUND IN THIS THREAD -- Always scroll through the items you are importing and make sure that all of them are always set to CREATE. You do not want to use replace when loading in these historic patches, it is likely to replace a modern player who shares his name with a ghost from the past.

I have considered for some time beginning this project and finally decided I was ready to get started.

I still have some work to do on the national teams that I released already but I decided to take a break from the modern game for a while and forcus my efforts to creating the past cups instead.

Anyway I will use this thread as a home base for it and I will release it in pieces as I did in the past.

To give you an overview here's what I'm looking to do:

I want to release each world cup with all teams from the final AND from qualification.

I will start in 1930 and work forward from there.

In the past the biggest critisism of my patches was that they were hurried and released early and often with little bugs or errors. With the sheer size of the project I'm about to begin I have decided that I will take my time with it, dedicate more time to accuracy and focus less on the speed at which they are released.

Another big critisism was the way in which I handled attributes, I hope to listen to any user advice/suggestions and adhere to them far better than I have in the past. I think because we are dealing with classic teams this will be a bit less of an issue but nevertheless I want your oppinions.

Finally, I always shot down help in the past. I am open 100% to any help you can provide and will be looking to have balls, stadiums, kits, logos, flags, banners, and other assets made as well.

With that in mind here is a checklist I have for each cup:

Countries (that are realistic to the name of the state in the day)

Leagues (that will work in Manager mode)

Teams (with accurate kits, banners, logos, flags, lineups and realistic attributes)

Players (with as many specific faces as I can get a hold of)

Stadiums (may need to be mostly generic but I will do my best to find what I can)

Officials (I hope to make some officials too, especially historically influential ones)

Formations (that are realistic to the time period)

Tournaments (I will make the world cup qualification and finals and put some effort into making other tournaments like the copa america and euro cup as well).

---------------------------------------------------------------------

If loaded properly you can use them in manager mode if you choose to.

The more people that sign onto this project the better it will be but as I've said with any previous project i've undertaken, if no one plays it I don't mind at all. At heart I just want to entertain myself. But I will always share my work with this community and ANY work I ever do is available to you to edit and rerelease as you please. I will begin working on the 1930 world cup patch tonight and will release all the work I can as soon as possible.

If you want to help out let me know here or in PM's and let me know what you want to contribute.

EDIT ----

I do want to make it clear, any artwork done for this patch will be offered to the guys at the classic patch so that we can return the favor for all the work they have so willingly given us.

Also, I did the math... to do All world cup tournaments with qualification we'd be looking at over 1500 teams... Needless to say, this is a project that is intentionally being started, with the knowledge that it will not be finished.

If we ever get that many made, great! But if not, it is no big deal. The point is to get as much of it done as we can.

NOTE:

There may be nations, flags, players or other aspects of these patches that may be easily and understandably viewed as offensive due to the political status of nations participating in previous world cups.

I am dedicated to the accuracy of these patches and making them look and feel as close to the real cups as possible.

In saying this I recognize that some members may not support some of the flags or national teams that are released but I need to stress that again my goal is to be historically accurate and I have ABSOLUTELY NO INTENTION to be vocal in a political sense.

One instance of this might be in the 1938 patch when Germany is released under the flag of the period which includes the Nazi symbol. Again I need to stress that I do not support the nazi party and I strive only to be historically accurate.

If you take offence to anything I release please contact me through Private Messeges and do not publically state this displeasure without first speaking to me directly. Often political arguments are simple misunderstandings.

Thanks,
~Liio

you'd better hurry, FIFA 08 is almost here, just a couple of months away

best of lucks with this patch

btw, have you guys noticed that all the patch-makers want to make the biggest patch in history? CEP, Nationals teams, history of wc, and all those patches that are really... i don't have the word right now...

RobbieD_PL
14-08-2007, 04:41:AM
I think if you really wanna spend time on this patch, delay it for FIFA 08.

Maye just for now you can make the Interwar WC's

Also I think a History of the European National Championship would be good too. (You can use kits from Euro 2004 too and convert them to 07 or 08)

Add me to MSN too: robertdow89 (at) hotmail.com

mrliioadin
14-08-2007, 07:34:AM
Makes no sense to wait for '08. Rinaldo is going to make CM08 backwards compatible or provide a way to convert teams and other files to 08 format. so no matter where I am at at the time '08 comes out, I just convert and continue.

If for any reason this doesn't happen I see no reason for me to buy '08. I've done too much work to loose it and I'm not remaking 208 national teams, it's a total waste.

The desire to do this spawns from the desire to visit the teams that helped to frame the game we know today. To play with the teams who made the world cup what it is today. It has nothing to do with being the biggest or the best. It comes from being able to visit a time of football that hasn't been given the correct amount of attention in my mind. Just showing the finalists is a bit incomplete to me. I want to be able to take any team in the world and play them from the first tournament they ever participated in to 2010.

Although, as I understand it you never really gave the national teams a shot Slow Hand. And if it simply isn't your cup of tea, no big deal... but I hardly want to be lumped in with the CEP because the intent (which was largely missed) was exactly opposite of what the CEP tries to accomplish.

I'm plannin to make the Semi finalists first Uruguay, Argentina, Yugoslavia, USA.

We found the leather ball and Gigg gave his permission to use it. He is allowing me to use any graphics I need out of the classic patch which will really save time. A huge hats off to him for allowing me to do this.

I do really like your kits though myx so if there is any chance of getting more made I definately will use them.

Anyone interested in coming up with something to use for adboards?

Here's a pic from the now finished Uruguay, I'll release them with Argentina soon.

I'm releasing the "League" plus Uruguay and Argentina.

Download Here (http://files.filefront.com/LeagueARGURUcmp/;8314743;;/fileinfo.html)

Nothing is set in stone. I refuse to push ahead as blindly as I did in the past... if you spot a mistake in one of these teams, let me know and we'll fix it right away. If you don't like the attributes for example, speak up we'll get it taken care of.

Thanks to Jsathe, myx, and everyone at the classic patch. More teams to come.

Also I will release the 2-3-5 formation (common at the time) with the next batch of teams. It's fun to attack with 5 and very tough to defend counters with just 2.

mrliioadin

is there a way to do that? Remove the adboards?

If there is I agree that's the best way to go.

This is Argentina on the left:

USA:

White/White with blue and white striped socks.

Yugoslavia(L) Bolivia(R)

http://www.fifa.com/mm/photo/archivedtournament/summaries/2000081660017%5f5470%5ffull-lnd.jpg

I'm not sure what color that shirt is. It is obviously darker than the white next to it. I think the serbian red would make sense or maybe blue.

Bolivia had different letters on each kit so we can ignore those obviously

Belgium:

http://www.fifa.com/mm/photo/archivedtournament/summaries/2000081660012%5f5469%5ffull-prt.jpg

Black
Black
Black

Brazil would be White/Blue/White without any green or gold in the kit (cause the fans were upset that their kit wasn't patriotic by ignoring the major colors on the flag.

Peru would actually be white/white/red Wikipedia has a simple pic of it here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peru_national_football_team#Kit_Evolution

Paraguay looks to be a solid color probably red maybe just white:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/66/Delf%C3%ADnBen%C3%ADtezC%C3%A1ceres.jpg

They didn't really use away kits as I understand it, so you can use your imagination with those and anything you come up with I'm sure will be excellent.

Actually looks like they are wearing blue socks too.

This is Romania on the right as far as I can tell. Very little to tell from the pic but you can at least see it's probably not a white kit, maybe red, maybe yellow. And it has their crest on the chest it appears.

http://www.todoslosmundiales.com.ar/mundiales/1930uruguay/images1930/rumania_uruguay.jpg

This is France vs Argentina:

Keeper in the near left then a frenchman, then you can see the argentinian strikers. looks like the french kit is light but not white... probably a fairly light blue.

http://www.todoslosmundiales.com.ar/mundiales/1930uruguay/images1930/thepot_grande.jpg

I can't find anything else for Chile, Peru, Mexico and Paraguay but I'm sure it's out there.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Screenshot of USA vs Yugoslavia using the classic patch kits. I had forgotten we only had 48 states thus had a different flag until the 1950 world cup. I enjoy getting to play with my team under our classic flag.

Thanks Robbie, I didn't really mention that I do think a history of the Euro Cup and other tournaments is a good idea. Since many of them were participating in the world cup most will be made in some way or another.

I will do what I can to release Confederational Championships but I guess it will depend on how many more teams will be required. let me know if you want to lend a hand. I did add you to MSN by the way. my sign in is mrliioadin@hotmail.com.

This is Version 1 of the 1930 world cup. It is not perfect but I think it's very good. I'm releasing it now because I realized that I could go on editing it and perfecting certain little things for months and decided that this is close enough for a first version to move on with.

Some things you will notice:

The author of the Centenario Stadium is unknown. During the conversion process it seems that at least one texture wasn't assigned properly so you will see a "Texture Missing" messege in the stadium. If this bothers you, don't import the stadium.

Rosas of Mexico has a ponytail, I've already corrected it for the updates but it's not in this release.

A few of the teams Minikits will have a different color collar than the kit you see in game, It's not a big deal because the minikits are still accurate in terms of the true colors of the team.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Features:

- all 13 participants in the 1930 World Cup.
- Accurate World Cup Tournament with the Jules Rimet Trophy (not called this at the time).
- Accurate formations for the period including the common 2-3-5.
- Kits that are accurate to the period without numbers and with the correct colors when the colors were known for sure.
- Raised attributes for players who were voted to the Best XI for the 1930 WC.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

When importing the files make sure that you scroll through the objects being imported and make sure all of them are GREEN for CREATE. if you find any RED for REPLACE please change it to CREATE.

If you have any issues, questions, comments please post here. I've begun working on 1934 which will include qualification and will include teams that withdrew before playing a match as long as I can find a roster for them.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please make sure you have read the text written within the patch and within this post to be sure that you are aware of any issues that may arise.

I wanted to mention a couple of small issues that would require correction on your part for 100% accuracy when using these patches.

It appears that when a team is created that uses a new formation CM07 isn't properly assigning the new formations. All teams in the 1930 patch use 2-3-5 with the exception of paraguay who uses the 2-3-1-4. I will try to post my suggestion for the positions of different players as well since I think I've at least made a fairly good guess at the proper lineup.

The same issue is occuring with the stadiums which I believe I mentioned previously... You will need to reassign the stadiums. 1930's is the El Centenario.

If more issues arrise I will post them.

I'm working on the 1934 patch and have 6 teams done. I will release when I get the 16 finalists finished and rerelease with as many qualifying nations as I can get information for. I plan for the 1934 patch to release in full with 30 teams.

They didnt use adboards in 1930. that's the reason. I will try to reupload the centenario stadium but again due to an error in the conversion process, there is a missing texture block on the field where little is supposed to go.

I have a beta version of the 1934 FINALS only available now, Send me an e-mail if you want to help me test it. I plan to rerelease this after making updates then rerelease again when the qualification teams are done.

mrliioadin
02-11-2007, 06:01:AM
I actually didn't make any changes from the Beta version. Though i noticed a few things I fixed on my laptop that will be corrected for the rerelease with Qualification squads.

I wasn't 100% happy with the results here but I've convinced myself that they were realistic enough. All of the games in the Semifinals and Quarterfinals were decided on 1 goal or less (exception Germany 3-1 Czechoslovakia) . and several of the Round of 16 matches told the same story. All in all I think there are roughly 12 teams who could legitimately say that they had a team good enough to win this competition and that amongst those 12, if one of them wins you really have to be happy with the accuracy of the patch. This is not the case in 1930 or 1938.

In my tournament the top four finished:

1. Austria
2. Germany
3. Brazil
4. Czechoslovakia

Brazil surprised me because I made the squad very weak. BUT with only 2 defenders if you get a speedy attacker with decent finishing skills running 1 on 1 with your defenders, it is tough to stop.

If Brazil had one great great footballer every decade, Leonidas was it for the 30's. He was Golden boot winner and earned best XI honors in the 1938 world cup and scored the only goal for Brazil in the actual finals in 1934. I chose to make his ratings stronger to show that the Brazilians had 1 very stroner player in a League of his own and plan to make him even better for 1938 but it causes problems for defenses in the 1934 patch and this one superstar can really cause problems. If you are curious in my cup he scored 9 Goals and the Brazilians knocked out the Spaniards and the Italians by a 4-3 score both times.

What I would suggest is to Man-Mark Leonidas with your Central Midfielder. This should put three men behind the ball rather than 2 (or 1) and should help make sure that at least 1 of them is near Leonidas at all times. The Austrian's Eventually did beat the Brazilians simply by scoring early, often and holding the ball.

Remember:

- Import the Assets first
- Before clicking IMPORT make sure all items are GREEN for "Create" Do not Replace

Without anymore of my babble

Here is the first version of the 1934 World Cup (http://files.filefront.com/WC+1934rar/;8943902;/fileinfo.html)

(Ok so a little more babble)

I have teams from groups 1-4 done including the Greeks and Bulgarians who both withdrew. I intend to make 10 more teams including teams that withdrew, but can only make them if I can get a full roster for them. So far no teams have any "Made up" players on them. I have found a source for subs for all teams thus far.

mrliioadin
03-11-2007, 03:10:PM
I wanted to mention that I will not be adding any South American Qualification teams to the 1934 world cup as origionally planned. Both teams (Chile & Peru) who withdrew hadn't played a game since 1930 and not again until 1935. This is a bit too much of a gap to get an accurate roster for 1933.

Their team did play in the olympics but by this time that was an amatuer competition and I've decided against using those rosters.

13 Teams that will be added:

Lithuania
Estonia
Portugal
Greece
Bulgaria
Poland
Yugoslavia
Irish Free State
Luxembourg
Haiti
Cuba
Mexico
Palestine/Eretz Israel

Total will be 29 teams.

mrliioadin
30-05-2008, 01:21:AM
I have decided to pick this little project up again.

I think in the past I have tried to structure the way the patches would be released a little to much and not allowed myself any room to wiggle if I felt like doing something else.

For now I will release any teams that I finish as I finish them. In the past I lost data because a computer crashed before I released it (more than once).

So the first release is a roster only patch for:

The 1938 world champions Italy:

DOWNLOAD HERE (http://files.filefront.com/Italian+1938+Rostercmp/;10410743;/fileinfo.html)

This has the correct roster and lineup (formation accurate to the period) as well as proper birthdates. I also selected that all players whould wear long sleeves as well as long socks. They actually wore 3/4 length sleeves the majority of the time but that of course isn't possible to recreate. The hair styles are also accurate to the period and player heights are correct whenever information was available.

mrliioadin
30-05-2008, 07:22:PM
Alright, I took a shot at making the Italian '38 kits. I didn't have a collar so I did my best to make one but I don't think it's all that good. I actually borrowed part of a sundsvall collar (from tutorial) to attempt to make it. I don't think he'll mind since I did such a poor job of recreating it!!

Anyway, because the quality isn't the best, I am going to release both kits in psd and psp format so that if you want to edit it you can easily. In fact I am hoping you are willing to.

I do think it is better than the '34 kit. Let me show you that first:

Here are the two new ones:

Let's try again.

This collar was done by Walrus_Sip. I adopted it to Paint Shop Pro. I think it looks much better. I also slightly lightened the collar and the socks color

1934 World Cup (http://www.filefront.com/13946317/1934_WCandQual.cmp)

I have no idea why this wasn't posted sooner. I am pretty sure this is everybody. I haven't looked at this patch in close to a year though so I don't know for sure. Very sorry I just had this sitting on my comp. It's been a crazy year though lol.

Thanks guys.
