The game is unrealistic and not fun. ISS is much better. Read the sports gaming review of fifa 2001.

Those guys don't know what their talking about anyway. The game has always had a FIFA license, it's not new.

excellent review! the best I have ever read about a FIFA-title.
I would have given the "normal" version of FIFA2K1 a 5 out of 10, the one with the tweaked aimain.ini a 6.5/10.
It is nice that you can modifiy the game to finally get the chance to
*) score on long-range shots
*) dribble some defenders
*) avoid being hacked down by CPU tackling a bit

But the 3 worst parts remain:
*) the really really nightmarish passing system
*) the way the CPU plays (ballet)
*) the 99% scripted ball-movement

What I think is so strange is that FIFA98 was so damn good, and in 99 they introduced this game-engine, which for some ****ed up reason is still in use.

I think this article is certainly the most objective and neutral review forever about FIFA2001! It points out all of the problems we have complained for years. Bullet ball speed, unrealistic spin moves, tackle from behind without given a freekick, USELESS through balls and crazy saves by the goalkeeper-- all these features always make me so frustrated. I hope EA can read this and produce a better game in next FIFA!

EA already has produced an AWESOME PC soccer game, it's called FA Premier League Stars 2001. I have it and its awesome, no 360 spin, and MUCH MUCH more (check out my post "Why i beleiev FAPLS is the best PC soccer game"

Yes it definately is a good review! It probably has to be the one most serious footy sim gamers should read.
In fact, it may be so in tune with the intricacies of The Game Itself and the pros and cons of footy video games in general that it could be seen in some quarters as being overly harsh. In answer to that one might say that there are some who give a **** and wish to no longer be short changed. EA should receive this web page via email and feel suitably humbled.
Anyone wanna develop a PC footy sim and kick some fat and vulnerable arse while it's down??

I wonder sometimes why I even bother coming to this forum. It seems no one is ever going to be satisfied with this or any other title. There is always something wrong with this or that. Stop and think how far these games have come since the first FIFA. We would have never dreamed it could look and play so much better at the time. I think everyone needs to stop playing for a few days, realize it is JUST A VIDEO GAME and get back to reality. Dont get me wrong, I love the game but its easy for some to become one dimensional in their lives and think of nothing else but computer games and how they wish they could mimic real life. Well here's how you get a dose of real life..go to START/Shutdown and see what you've been missing!!! BYE!!! Im off to the great outdoors!

I agree CODAVE. There is a big difference between reality and video games. And why does everybody complain so mutch ? Its a video game...it can never be exactly like the reality. I think Fifa 2001 is very good (but there are some problems to fix). One thing that is important is how we put the grade on the game. An other thing that i think is important is that we dont only judge the game from the gameplay. What about the awesome grafics, teams and music ? Its important to see the wholething in the game.
