View Full Version : Kanye vs. 50 Cent
SlayerDeuS 06-09-2007, 09:08:PM I read that 50 Cent would quit rapping if Kanye West's album "Graduation" outsold 50's "Curtis". Both albums officially come out September 11th, so give them a listen then vote. I've given Kanye's a few listens so far and it's pretty good, not as good as his past albums though. 50's style isn't really to my liking but I'm gonna give his a listen in the next couple days.
Filipower 06-09-2007, 09:10:PM yeah 50 said he'd quit and just keep on producing for other artists...i hope Kanye actually sells more to see what he'll do..
Callum 06-09-2007, 09:14:PM 50 cent ******* sucks. I hope he quits.
skiptomylou 06-09-2007, 10:42:PM I would love to see Kanye outdo 50. He ******* sucks, was always **** besides maybe when he was unsigned. Plus, Kanye is in a league of his own, anyway. And I'm definitely getting Graduation. So... Yeah, bye bye, 50.
champdave 07-09-2007, 12:02:AM I'd like to see both of them stop making "music." :p
Nimreitz 07-09-2007, 12:31:AM I'm a huge Kanye fan and have been a bit of a 50 hater, although I liked Get Rich or Die Trying and a few of his Massacre hits, etc. Anyway, my first impression is that Curtis is a better hip-hop album than Graduation. I....um..... work for a record company, so I've heard them already.
SlayerDeuS 07-09-2007, 01:53:AM I donno if it is just me but on the first listen I rarely ever like many tracks, it usually takes a couple of listens or even the right setting/context (music video, club, restaurant, etc.) for me to begin to like a song. I don't work as a "record executive" like Nimbo or anything either. Anyway, Kanye already has a couple of hits out from his album and I can imagine seeing a couple of other tracks (Good Life, for example) being hits. As for 50's album, I'll keep listening to it, but as of now his voice is droning and getting on my nerves, I HATE his style of rap. For now though, Kanye's is the winner for me.
Nimreitz 07-09-2007, 02:47:AM I'm actually the same way. Many of my favorite albums I hated on the first listen.
Hakeem 07-09-2007, 03:15:AM Anyway, my first impression is that Curtis is a better hip-hop album than Graduation.
really?Ive been listening to Graduation for a few days now and its really great. maybe even 8 or 9 songs that are really good. Curtis Ive been listening since yesterday and I cant get into it. ayo tech is good. I get money too. and I also like the one with Eminem (though maybe because if him a lot more than I should), Peep Show. but after those the album is (:/)
Nimreitz 07-09-2007, 09:03:AM Maybe I'm blinded by Technology (I'm the biggest JT fan on the planet), and the Em song (is he back?), but I really liked the Fity album. For Kanye, I was expecting a more hype album.

Well, I don't listen to them, but I used to listen to Kanye West some years ago and I really hope his album will outsold 50's, so he will finally quit(Allelujah!).
skiptomylou 07-09-2007, 10:05:PM sP2auekNTfM
Gerrard 17 07-09-2007, 11:50:PM Kanye is gonna sell more in the U.S., but 50 will outsell him including international sales.
PSVFOREVER 08-09-2007, 11:49:AM Bah. 50 Cent. Hope his new album never gets released in the first place anyway.
Graduation if for the simple fact it has Stronger on it - Daftpunk4tw.
Nah not really in a position to comment to be fair, haven't heard 50's new album yet.
fender 08-09-2007, 12:52:PM Not a big fan of the genre but i hope Kanye West outsells 50 Cent.
Parra Power 08-09-2007, 01:25:PM 50 Cent epitomises the whole gangsta braggado thing I dislike about hip-hop. I like my stuff removed from that whole culture (Lupe, Atmosphere, Kanye, Streets) or if it is.... "ghettocentric"... I like it NOT dumbed down, and able to make me think (Nas, Kweli, Mos, Common, IT, even AZ). So a pass on 50 - who to me screams "gangsta music for the club [where it's ok] and the 12 year old white suburbanite" - even though what I've heard of Graduation isn't all that great.
Filipower 09-09-2007, 11:00:PM i've just heard both albums and i have to say that, as expected, Graduation is a much better album than Curtis, although it's not better than Late Registration, and Curtis isn't all that bad..
but i do understand what Nim said about Curtis being a better hip-hop album..Graduation is a better music record, i don't know if i'm making it much clearer :p
Dreadzone 10-09-2007, 05:53:PM Does Curtis have one song about guns, one song about smoking weed, one song about your girlfriend etc. etc?
Its very formulaic. Apparently Dr. Dre told 50 if you want to sell loads of records you have to have at least one song about smoking weed then your sales will go to 3 million or whatever. 50 doesn't smoke weed.
Filipower 10-09-2007, 05:57:PM the one with and produced by Em is great, but i'm completely biased when it comes to anything Eminem does :p
You can basically go to Africa, Asia, South America ect and almost everyone will know who 50 cent is, no doubt he will sell more. Kanye is the better rapper and from listening to Graduation it's a hot album, still haven't heard Curtis tho.
smoove 13-09-2007, 11:14:AM 50 is probably gonna outseel kanye. from what I've heard both album's are the the worst of the respective artists. although "the good life" and "stronger" are some of kanye's best tracks. "ayo technology" is such a bad try to hop on the timbo ban wagon by 50, ridicioulos.
Help? 14-09-2007, 06:25:AM I heard both albums and they are both decent, but Curtis just edges out a bit.
Kanye West kills 50 Cent in lyrical part no doubt, there is not even a comparison, however the production he uses and especially the countless number of old samples on the album, makes me tired of the songs fast. "Can't Tell Me Nothing", "Stronger", "Homecoming" and "Big Brother" are the songs that i really like.
However, with Kanye having much better and more purposeful lyrics, 50 Cent pretty much destroys Kanye in production department. And maybe its because of the much higher energy that the album gives me, i like it more because Graduation is very deep and soulful album and i'm not much of a soul music person. Songs i really liked are "Ayo Technology", "I Get Money", "Peep Show", "Touch The Sky" and "Curtis 187". "Come and Go" is not bad, production by Dr. Dre really makes it much better than it would have been, however the chorus sucks.
Anyway, i think its more of the type of person that you are because the two albums are very very different, Graduation is deep and sort of slow coasting album, while Curtis is just gangsta reckless style (just like his other albums) and more of a higher energy album. You can really see how the way the two rappers were brought up influenced their music.
Anyway, speaking of rap albums, anybody listened to Chamillionaire's Ultimate Victory album? I might be a little bit biased towards him because of how smart, truthful and opinionated Chamillionaire is, but i think that the album does not have 1 single song that you could skip, there is 17 of them and they are all great. I'm definietly buying that one come September 18.
Nimreitz 14-09-2007, 06:33:AM 50 is probably gonna outseel kanye. from what I've heard both album's are the the worst of the respective artists. although "the good life" and "stronger" are some of kanye's best tracks. Dude, Technology is a hot track, and Kanye is outselling 50 so far. Wrong across the board.
Filipower 14-09-2007, 02:12:PM come on Nim, just because it has JT?:p Timbaland, 50 and Timberlake could've done much, much better.
smoove 14-09-2007, 03:08:PM Dude, Technology is a hot track, and Kanye is outselling 50 so far. Wrong across the board.
opinions are like assholes and the albums are out for how long? 4 days?
Nimreitz 14-09-2007, 10:26:PM come on Nim, just because it has JT?:p Timbaland, 50 and Timberlake could've done much, much better.
Timbaland and JT own music right now.
Filipower 14-09-2007, 10:27:PM meh, kind of a bandwagon really :X
Vagegast 16-09-2007, 05:22:AM No, just recognition of good music. Also, rmember that Kanye does a lot of his own production where 50 Cent does... nothing what so ever.
All in all, Graduation is kinda disappointing and all people can say about 50 Cent's album is "it's not as bad as his last one." Laughable.
skiptomylou 16-09-2007, 07:56:AM I just finished listening to 50 Cent's CD. It sucks. Well, I mean most of the beats are hot, but the commercialism makes it unbearable for me. 50 just raps about the same **** over and over while different beats go on the background. The only reason I even bothered to check out the CD was because of Ayo Technology. Follow My Lead is also pretty good. But it's pretty ****ty overall to me.
My taste is obviously towards Kanye's type of music, but I actually wanted to give Curtis a try. That **** is too commercial, though. I just can't really be bothered to give it another listen.
::shinji:: 16-09-2007, 01:49:PM 50 Cent epitomises the whole gangsta braggado thing I dislike about hip-hop. my thoughts exactly.. I haven't heard the new 50 Cent and can't say I have much desire too, although I'll probably listen to a few tracks just for curiosity's sake.
I've never been a fan of Kanye as a rapper but I do like him as a producer, so I grabbed Graduation and it pretty much confirms the opinion I already had of him. There's a few decent tracks with good production value but nothing that really blows me away.
$teauA 17-09-2007, 05:59:AM So I've listened to both and I can't say that I'm very impressed with either one but I give Graduation the edge because Kanye doesn't sound like he's falling asleep when he raps.
I like Stronger and Champion off of Graduation and Ayo Technology off of Curtis. I've only listened to each album once though so my opinion of both will probably change with a few more listens.
Nimreitz 18-09-2007, 11:03:PM opinions are like assholes and the albums are out for how long? 4 days?
Would you now like to tell me who sold more? Were the projections wrong? Don't think so.
smoove 19-09-2007, 12:39:AM :clapwap: hooray!
Help? 19-09-2007, 02:09:AM 930 to 660! Damn, 50 Cent still sold a lot during such times when CD sales are so low and iTunes are dominating. But Kanye absolutely killed it, even i'm surprised that he almost went platinum in the first week. Expect at least triple platinum for him. Hip-hop might be ok afterall, now we just need a good follow-up from Rich Boy, the one that's not influenced by major labels.
Nimreitz 19-09-2007, 02:55:AM Rich Boy? I don't think his last album even went gold. And no disrespect to the hot club track "Throw Some D's", but come on man. Rich Boy ain't saving hip-hop.
Gerrard 17 19-09-2007, 05:10:AM Rich boy, the savior of hip hop
Help? 19-09-2007, 05:55:AM No he might not yet, but he is more of the talented rappers out there. His debut album wasn't that great because he wanted to just get his name out there and the label told him to follow the typical modern day formula for a rap album. It wasn't even his singles that grabbed my attention, infact i didn't like "Throw Some D's" at all, it was more of "And I Love You", "Hood Riches", "Lost Girls" and "Role Models" that i liked about him, plus one interview where he was doing some real talk. Maybe he will be a bust i don't know, but i'm definietly more excited about his follow-up album, then another Rick Ross or Fat Joe album.
Only time will tell, maybe you guys will be right afterall.
Help? 19-09-2007, 06:12:AM BTW anybody seen this?
http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=18293306
$teauA 19-09-2007, 06:54:AM Ok so after a second listen I have to say that 50's album is pretty much garbage and Kanye's I have actually listened to twice more, not as good as his last ones but still a good album.
Help? 07-10-2007, 05:32:AM Wooo, Lupe's got a great new track
q1Et1siZhTk
Nimreitz 07-10-2007, 08:44:AM Uh oh. Lupe could be a one hit wonder :(
Almost like The D.O.C., except without the excuse of losing his vocal chords.
Vagegast 07-10-2007, 09:01:AM Dan, how can you be a one hit wonder if you're whole album is good?
skiptomylou 07-10-2007, 09:05:AM No way he'll be a one hit wonder. He might not be as successful as the other rappers because he won't dilute his lyrics. But other than that, I think he's attracting enough buzz to be around for a while.
Anywho, that's not the single off his album. His first single off "The Cool" is called Superstar. I still like that song, though. But Superstar is better, and it's probably a little more mainstream than Dumb It Down.
Nimreitz 07-10-2007, 09:15:AM Dan, how can you be a one hit wonder if you're whole album is good?
Like, One Awesome Album Wonder. Like The D.O.C.
Gerrard 17 08-10-2007, 08:00:AM Watch out for Saigon, he's gonna bring that fire when his CD finally drops.
Bobby 09-10-2007, 01:46:AM Bubba's dropping a new album in the sping. Sucks for everyone else.
Socrates 12-10-2007, 09:33:AM Hands down it's gotta be Kanye, there is only 2 songs on there I don't like but the rest is great.
Yossarian 12-10-2007, 06:54:PM Watch out for Saigon, he's gonna bring that fire when his CD finally drops.
LOL.....let's hope so, bro. He was supposed to be bringing the rap industry on its knees as far back as '02 if I remember correctly. But it's just been mixtape after mixtape (not that im complaining much, since they've been insanely wicked for the most part) for the past 4-5yrs, man.
http://www.zshare.net/audio/41760665d7a481/
One of my favorite track of his.

Saigon is an animal.
Yossarian 25-10-2007, 05:07:PM ^^Good stuff, bro.
SlayerDeuS 01-11-2007, 01:12:AM No way in hell Lupe is a one-hit wonder. He got skillz, skateboarding skillz.
Lemonman31 04-11-2007, 06:57:AM ha im the only one that voted for 50 cent. hilarious.
nomerme 14-04-2008, 01:43:PM yeah... if u like kanye west, there is a compilation series you should check out called "Euro Club Hits" --
it's pretty clear that dance music is coming back around the world -- just check the recent big American hip-hop and R&B hits which are clear rip-offs of the european dance style.....
here's the direct iTunes link to the "Euro Club Hits" series.....

Hilariously, I don't think I've listened to Curtis one time after that first listen. I like Graduation, but there's a few songs I skip, which is rare for me and a Kanye album.
Still um.... work for that record company.

Curtis is so bad it's not even funny. Graduation is a really good album but you're right some songs are just ehh.
bybuti 15-04-2008, 08:41:PM I just voted Curtis coz I was in 50 Cent's concert last year here in Prishtina :)
I voted it for Ayo Technology song, its fvcking great :)
I love 50's other song like "In da club" and "I'm gonna die tonight" :)

Filipower 15-04-2008, 08:55:PM so I guess I'm the only one who thinks 'Ayo Technology' is one of those songs I skip when I'm listening to the album?
skiptomylou 16-04-2008, 02:55:AM I liked it. For a week. But then it got old, so I moved on.
I still listen to Graduation, and besides from a song or two that I skip... (Good Life; over played, Big Brother; I hate Jay Z) I love that CD.
