View Full Version : Led Zep! itsbeenpickedup 12-09-2007, 08:03:PM Apparently doing a one off gig with Bonzo's son on drums. Awesome! Let's hope they do a good job and decide to tour. Ubik Valis 12-09-2007, 09:44:PM When and where? 1966+2006 12-09-2007, 10:30:PM Woooow, that would be amazing... Sure you're not talkin about Lez Zeppelin? The lesbian coverband? :D EDIT: On September 12, 2007, it was confirmed during a press conference by promoter Harvey Goldsmith that the surviving members of Led Zeppelin will reunite for the Ahmet Ertegun tribute show at the O2 arena in London on November 26, 2007, with Jason Bonham filling in on drums.Tickets were made available via a lottery system through Ahmettribute.com, costing £125 ($254USD). Seán D 13-09-2007, 12:00:AM That would be awesome. Kashmir is such a legend song to play on guitar. The Don't 13-09-2007, 12:15:AM Pain, though. What with the tuning. Seán D 13-09-2007, 12:26:AM I actually have one of my guitars permantely in that tuning. Its the one I use the least (ESP Explorer, ala Jams Hetfield) so I don't mind keeping it that way. Yossarian 28-09-2007, 06:53:PM ^^ that's a sweet guitar, bro. Why don't you make more use of it? Anyway. Why is this sooo underwhelming? Is it because they took so long? Zepp was my favorite band before I discovered Hendrix, and they're still right up there with Hendrix for me, but I really despise Page, man. He's an obscenely litigious individual and seems to be all about the money, much like Jagger is in the Rolling Stones. I think that he recently sought out royalties from a bar band for playing their music.....seriously. You'd think that he'd have some shame and ironic sense of humor with them being taken to court for copyright issues pertaining to more than 26 songs from their discography....namely SWTH, which is a complete ripoff note-for-note. Anyway. I'll be waiting for this with bated breath. I've always been a huge fan of Plant and his solo ****, and I consider JPJ to be one of the most underappreciated musicians of all time, so I'm really excited to be seeing them back together, but Page?.......err. If it was only him and his Crowley's Cock sucking ass that drowned on his own vomit instead of Bonzy......jk The Don't 29-09-2007, 01:32:AM Yeah, I can't remember if it was Plant or Page but my dad told me that in the 70's one of them was coming onto his sister (that would be my aunty) in some bar and when she told him in a dignified manner to "**** off" he was like "WHAT! You've just refused to sleep with moi, Robert Plant/Jimmy Page!? Do you realise who I am?" itsbeenpickedup 01-10-2007, 05:57:PM I don't know much about whether Page is or isn't a dick. I do know that he has done some highly memorable guitar work though. I also think it's pretty fair to rip something off if you realise it's potential more, although you'd have to be a prick to be hypocritical with it. I don't know where he supposedly stole stuff from, but it surely wasn't from anything as complete or well executed, and we probably wouldn't have heard it if he hadn't. Kinda like how Chuck Berry heard his famous guitar intro being played by a pianist, realised it rocked and put it on guitar. There's credit due in that too, even if it isn't exactly original composing. Anyway apparently 20 million+ people applied for the tickets. It's therefore pretty clear they could do a stadium filling tour and I'd definitely want to see it. champdave 01-10-2007, 06:02:PM I saw Jimmy Page play in Nice the other year when I lived there, it was absolutely incredible. By the way, Bonzo's son is noway near as good as the man himself. Jason is a solid drummer, but nothing special unfortunately. Yossarian 01-10-2007, 06:45:PM ^^I think that Grohl has offered his services before. He's like the biggest Bonzo fan in the whole universe, man. He used to play Bonham stuff for 12hrs straight when he was a kid, and he's got Bonham tattoos all over his body and ****, man. Yeah, I can't remember if it was Plant or Page but my dad told me that in the 70's one of them was coming onto his sister (that would be my aunty) in some bar and when she told him in a dignified manner to "**** off" he was like "WHAT! You've just refused to sleep with moi, Robert Plant/Jimmy Page!? Do you realise who I am?" hurhurhur.....man, your aunt must've been quite the HAWTie in her day, eh? A big 'ole sturdy English ass and humongous hangers, eh? For either of those (I think that Plant was married around this time....not saying that that'd deter 'em from fooling around or nothing) to be having a go at her, she'd have atleast to be a ******* 9 on the gorgeous scale, eh? Yossarian 08-10-2007, 02:48:PM I don't know much about whether Page is or isn't a dick. I do know that he has done some highly memorable guitar work though. If I was given the choice of either seeing Zep or Van Halen right now, I'd really have a hard time choosing between the two, man. Common sense would dictate that I go with the Zep, right? I mean, their concert is only a one-off and it's a momentus musical occasion and all, but I just don't know what we'll be getting from them, man. On the other hand, the early reviews from the VH reunion tour have all been unanimously positive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMm419quo1g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5G8MLutk7ZY itsbeenpickedup 09-10-2007, 01:06:AM Thank you sir, that is interesting. They should definitely have credited those guys, no doubt about it. However, I actually find that I really like some of their covers the most anyway, when they're playing live and throw in some ol' well known classic rock 'n roll numbers which would sound pretty lame if most bands did them, but they 'zep em up. It's more about how they do it than whether they wrote it. But yeah, you're right. That is criminal not to credit those artists they ripped off. Still didn't make it clear exactly who was responsible though. Peer pressure and management pressure could have had an effect so I'd still not be hating any of them individually. At least one of them's surely in wrong though I'll agree. Yossarian 12-10-2007, 06:40:PM ^^ Good points, bro. Most people seem to be worried about Plant's voice more than anything else, but as a dude who's been closely following his solo career, let me tell yah, the ****er's voice has held up incredibly well and I don't at all expect it to be a weak link in the performance or nothing. I'm most worried about Page and Jason, man. Imagine them including this track into their setlist? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2uSn3Y_doY Not in a million years, eh? That's gotta be their most underappreciated track, eh? Anyway. I just hope that they don't embarrass themselves and tarnish their enduring and majestic name through this reunion, man. itsbeenpickedup 15-10-2007, 04:40:PM Agreed. Thanks for the link. It's so nice I just took the time to learn to play it. It's so underappreciated that I'd embarrassingly never even heard it before... it's times like this I regret not having yet made the effort to find entire discographies of my favourite artists, because I'm sure there's some more gems out there by various people that don't make it on their 'best of' compilations and stuff, you know? I really should take some time to expand my collection. Good to know Plant's voice is ok. I think they may be all individually fine, but I still wonder if the band can actually come together in the same way again? Even if they all perform well, I wonder if this time it will seem more rehersed and less natural. It's not like it's easy to replace Bonham snr, so I'm not sure if they will be able to capture their original live feel, or end up sounding more like a tribute band. Yossarian 18-10-2007, 03:46:PM ^^ Well put, bro. I totally concur with your concerns on that second paragraph. Regarding that song and their discography....don't be ashamed, bro. I don't think that they've ever played that one live. I've spent countless hrs searching for a live version of it, but I guess I'll have to be content with that studio cut, as it sorta has a live feel about it anyway I've got that completist, obsessive disorder passed down to me by my mother, so if I'm really into a particular band or whatever, I'll go to the ends of the Earth in order to attain what it is that I'm missing, you know? Luckily, with the Zep I didn't have to do much, really. All their studio work plus a ton of their bootlegs were passed down to me as a birthday present by my cousin when he was going off to college seven years ago. http://youtube.com/watch?v=SQMUZXNVYuI GOOD GOD! WHAT A RHYTHM SECTION!!! That ******* bassline makes me salivate, I swear! And Page has never sounded better.....that's a Tele he's playing, right? *prevents cancer furiously* Yossarian 29-11-2007, 06:02:PM wasn't the concert a couple nights ago or so? Has it been uploaded yet, bros? itsbeenpickedup 04-12-2007, 05:34:PM It was postponed until the 10th of this month because Page broke his finger. I hear they might be doing some festival or something in America after that too. Not sure if that's confirmed or not though. Yeah that looks like a Tele. Cool song. Yossarian 04-12-2007, 05:50:PM fragile geezer! Let's hope that it turns into a full tour, man. itsbeenpickedup 04-12-2007, 07:09:PM Yeah I really hope they do. Apparently they are going to play for 2 hours which is cool. http://www.nme.com/news/led-zeppelin/32934 It would be rather cool if the whole thing ended up snowballing into a tour, after originally apparently being a one off 40 minutes. They could never have played for that time though, they have way too much material. itsbeenpickedup 12-12-2007, 05:23:PM By pretty much all accounts they were ******* excellent. I haven't been able to find any decent quality recordings except a short clip from the news. I guess they will be putting out a dvd. The rest can be seen on youtube on camera phone clips with poor sound quality, but even so you can hear they've still got it. http://youtube.com/watch?v=2yeuUmBOacg That one's got listenable sound quality, and to be honest if you closed your eyes I'm pretty sure you'd just assume it was from the 70's. I'm sure I've heard worse versions from back then. WORLD TOUR PLEASE. Yossarian 17-12-2007, 05:33:PM ^^^ yeah, the British media was hailing it as the greatest comeback concert ever, man. They were imploring 'em to put together a tour and I really hope that they follow through with one.....I swear I'd be willing to pay upwards of a grand to see them.......PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN! http://youtube.com/watch?v=u6dnfm-OQ3k better quality version of yer clip.....I swear, Page has never sounded more dynamic and flawless..... $teauA 21-12-2007, 07:19:AM World Tour Pleaseeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!! Jaboldinho 21-12-2007, 09:26:AM C'mon, world tour! By the way, my uncle is gonna go see Robert Plant in Stockholm next spring, probably a great gig to wait for. Yossarian 21-12-2007, 05:09:PM http://aycu11.webshots.com/image/36650/2004507489397240668_rs.jpg age has metamorphosized Page into a Chinese grandmother. JPJ has aged remarkably well, though. $teauA 22-12-2007, 12:24:AM I thought they hated Rolling Stone itsbeenpickedup 24-03-2008, 05:37:PM Hey Yossarian, I've read that they played the rover live just once apparently. I couldn't find a recording of it. But I did find a couple of other interesting things on youtube. http://youtube.com/watch?v=WAUKBUluAEk That one is live and seems to start out as the rover but they don't carry it on for some reason. This one below has part of an early version at the start, but then follows with what is a fairly awesome take which is probably as live as it gets for this song. It doesn't seem to have anything added like extra guitar parts or anything so it's basically a live recording in the studio. http://youtube.com/watch?v=yCiw923_wnc |
