Overall, it feels pretty decent...the new system for cycling through your players is better than the system used in 07 and CL. It definately takes some getting used to, using the right stick instead of the left trigger to cycle through the players, but it seems like once I get the hang of it, it will work much better than the old system. However, I'm sad to report that the two biggest problems with both 07 and CL are still present. Players still wait for the ball to come to them, which often causes turnovers. Also, when in pursuit of a ball hit into space, your players are stuck on a straight-line run and cannot cancel out of it. I really just want to meet someone who worked on this game and ask them how utterly stupid they can possibly be for not trying to fix these problems. The new skill moves are pretty much useless, at least I haven't been able pull anything off of any value. Shooting is pretty much impossible as well. Most of your shots sail far over the top. The AI seems improved, they will try to cut off passing lanes on defense, which is made all the more easy since your players stand around waiting for passes instead of running towards the incoming pass. Graphically, it looks a little sharper than CL and the colors are much more vibrant. So, maybe I was expecting too much, but I'm pretty pissed that they didn't fix the major problems from the last two games. About the player running in line for the ball doesn't the RT + LT work or other shoulder buttons combinations work as in current gen? And pulling yourself the players as you pass doesnt work too? cfdemarco 13-09-2007, 07:38:PM About the player running in line for the ball doesn't the RT + LT work or other shoulder buttons combinations work as in current gen? And pulling yourself the players as you pass doesnt work too? I wasn't aware of that, I'll have to try it when I get home tonight. As far as the passing goes, no, it doesn't really seem like you can move your players towards the ball...seems like you can't really take control of them until the split second before the ball arrives. Lord Spawn 13-09-2007, 08:41:PM PS3 version sT%ILL not out in Canada/Us apparently its out in UK djangor16 13-09-2007, 09:39:PM First impressions from someone who hated the gameplay in FIFA 07/UEFA CL--Much better...still seems like they have a way to go, and the skill stick obviously wasn't included or was a terribly failed experiment, but I actually enjoyed this and could see myself buying and keeping it for longer than a week like the previous two efforts...Great new animations, looking forward to the final cut. OrgulloVikingo 13-09-2007, 09:54:PM Bad demo! Compared to UEFA CL, its a big step backwards. Even the graphics take a big hit which surprised me. Game is too slow, audio is horrid and when you miss the net, the ball comes shooting back really fast on to the pitch. I'm really dissappointed. I played 7 matches and tried hard to like it. This is a rental. I hope PES is good, if not, back to UEFA CL. I was really looking forward to this  Rdubb4 13-09-2007, 10:04:PM Bad demo! Compared to UEFA CL, its a big step backwards. I think the graphics are even better as they have added more detail into the kits, and some of the new animations are awesome. I think the pace of the game is fine, as 07 was just miserablely fast and I diddnt waste my time or money on playing UCL. The audio is fine, its a demo without commentary that weighs in at less than a gig, you are way overreacting about it. This is the most fun I have had playing FIFA in 10 years, very promising game. Lord Spawn 13-09-2007, 10:21:PM keep in mind these are just demos the final game will probably be alot different and/or better. a source close to or in EA said when they released the PC Demo that that demo was an older version of the game. so the xbox 360 and/or the PS3 ones can be older ones to. elhelmiey 13-09-2007, 11:00:PM ... a source close to or in EA said when they released the PC Demo that that demo was an older version of the game... aahh... glad to hear this! :bouncy: OrgulloVikingo 14-09-2007, 12:13:AM I quite like the demo. The detail in the kits works against the game since for the most part you will be using a wide camera that shows the detail in the kits as very jaggedy and too busy. animations are sweet though. AI is very tough, which is a good thing (unless they made it imopssible to break down). One of the things I hate is that every defender on America and Red Bulls easily caught up to Messi, Ronaldinho, Rooney, etc. I know its a demo but that's more reason to put out a good one since it's a first impression. I am still trying to give it a shot. About the grfx, I think it looks just a bit better than 07 but way behind UEFA CL. cfdemarco 14-09-2007, 01:15:AM OK I thought there was supposed to be a way to take control of your keeper on breakaways or set pieces...? Anyone figured out how to do this? Keepers are completely worthless on set pieces just like in 07 and CL, I've given up about 3 goals on free kicks already. Demo is starting to get on my nerves a bit. I've managed 1 goal in about 10 games. Shooting is near impossible, the skill moves are useless, every AI defender is somehow faster than every user-controlled player, and it seems as if you can only send through balls on the ground and not through the air. It seems like they've hardly made any progress with this year's game at all...and don't tell me that it's only a demo and that the final game may be different, because the 07 demo and the CL demo were exactly like the final games. I run by defenders and deliver crosses into the box regularly. PES has the same problem with cpu defenders with unreal speed. In 12 games I have like 3 or 4 shots on goal:o A tip: When shooting, tap the button one millionth of a second otherwise ball will go out of the stadium and curve like a whiffle ball.:( I am forcing myself to like this game. All they had to do is keep eveything from UEFA CL game except add these new animations and tricks and presto. Also, why take a step back on graphics? To make room for the 30 leagues? Aragorn 14-09-2007, 04:57:AM Hmmm... My feelings are strange, in one side i feel a bit dissapointed in some aspects, may be iīd wait too much this game. But in the other side thereīs a lot of things that i like. My first dissapointing things are the cams, TV is too far, and V2 is too close, thereīs no a medium point where you can feel ok. When is too far, skill moves are difficult to do, simply because seems that you have not the control over the player, furthermore you lost the great graphics too, and in the close cams, graphics looks great but you donīt know where are your team mates. Other strange thing is the tempo of the game, is too slow for me, ok better to go to a simulation than an arcade, but this is too much. I think that the UCL tempo was correct, fifa07 was too much fast. But well, the good thing with this tempo is that you have more time for create spaces or playing the ball, but this last aspect goes down when you are playing in a easy mode and you see how the A.I. destroys most of your game. So how it will be in difficult then? I only scored 3 goals in 15 plays. But this game has great things too. Graphics as always are impresive, not so much improvement from 07 or UCL, Ronnie looks worst...i dont know why. Finally they arrange totally the players collision thing, it works correctly, and the animations are really cool, aswell the "change player" thing, now it works great. Gameplay is diferent from 07 or UCL, here thereīs no way of to run the wing center and goal, you must to work more, and itīs great sometimes, but is bad other times when itīs easy to make a good play for to score and then appears some guy from Red Bull and steal the ball easy as hell. May be itīs the demo A.I., may be we need more games to feel custom with the new A.I. Skill moves really only works 4 or 5 times in a macth, when you have a clear spaces to move and this stuff. Most of the time, they have no sense, but other times, are great So, resuming, FIFA 08 has new great things improved, but other things that were improved in UCL are out. So, as i said at the start, i like a lot the demo, but iīd wait much more. Hope that they change this bad things in the final version, but i doubt it. And PES2008 seems that is going on the bad side..so this is another year of "Hey, 08 is great, but..." as always " and "Hey PES2008 seems cool...but". Anyway i must to play more the demo, and surely i will buy fifa08 instead pes2008. The last pes for x360 was a dissaster, and this year seems that is going on the same way...omg...only 2 premier league licensed teams, no bundesliga, etc...pfff. Itīs so difficult to have a football game with great graphics and great gameplay?...without "butīs"?? without this feel of "iīm really controlling this player or what??" I donīt know, may be itīs time that the guys from 2K take the controls...if i could feel a football game like i feel NBA2K...ahhhh.... Take care neovico The Mind plus4s 14-09-2007, 11:05:AM I can't see ea changing anything in the game as the full release is only just over two weeks away. How many times in the past has ea released a demo of fifa and changed something in the game by the release date ?. Where easports are concerned when it comes to fifa is you get what you see in the demo. nickclubman 14-09-2007, 11:08:AM don't know how someone can like that poor excuse for a footy game UCL over FIFA 08. UCL is easy crap. FIFA 08 is a challenging simulation for the right reasons. I guarantee PES will be scripted again. I guarantee PES will be scripted again. Iīm agree about UCL is easy crap and 08 is more challenging, but, one thing is to be challenging and another much different is to be 50% of time donīt enjoyable and sometimes unplayable, like in this case with 08 . Did you try to play as Red Bulls against Manchester? Itīs impossible to make more than 3 passes. Strange A.I. , why is more easy to play against Marsella than Red Bulls?? It has not sense... neovico The Mind Miki23 14-09-2007, 02:40:PM Well, I can understand that some people got 'disappointed' a bit but I think it was expected. Let's not over-react. As with any new iteration and especially engine tweak, the things work for some people, and don't work for some. I can assure you that in terms of graphics things looked better at the version I played in Leipzig. Smoother, and shaper. It almost looks like there was an additional layer of anti-aliasing, which is missing in the demo. Imo, the speed is just right, the ball physics are incredible, players are not on rails, and they don't wait for the ball in most cases. I've heard EA rep in Lepzig that AI and balancing is what the team is working harderst before the game goes gold so there's a hope that some of the issues, if not all, get ironed out. Another positive thing is the feeling that you play against teams of different quality. You can feel a tough game against Barca, but feel less pressure when playing Red Bull. That's not to say the game is not challening against Red Bull. The game is definitely more challenging than both UCL and 07 and one thing I really like is that CPU is not using (read:abusing) the tricks to much. Tricks are there pretty much as much as in the real football game. Tricks take a bit getting used to but are quite rewarding once mastered. Instead of being too cynical, I reckon we should try to focus on good things and see how things pan out when the final build is out. I'm quite impressed so far (especially after Leipzig), but the demo is still decent. I had similar 'problem' last year whan I couldn't score for 10-15 games in the deo, but once it grew on me it all became much more enjoyable. I'm sure it's the same case with 08. 08 is definitely best Fifa ever, no doubt about it. P.S. The commentary (which is obviously missing in the demo) is absolutely amazing and something that needs to be heard. " I've heard EA rep in Lepzig that AI and balancing is what the team is working harderst before the game goes gold so there's a hope that some of the issues, if not all, get ironed out." May be thereīs a hope, i mean, to make dissapear this ugly A.I. in terms that 50% of time the game is great and 50% of time the game is not so great. Yes, we must to play more and more to custom to the new gameplay. Cool to meet you again Miki!!! Take care neovico The Mind Aragorn 15-09-2007, 01:34:AM Well, the thing is changing now, after 30 games more, this fifa08 is 75% enjoyable. Itīs clear that with this game you must to change your mentality about other fifa games. The A.I. is really strong, and you must to play 3 passes beyond the ball arrives to your first player, more agressive in some moments, and having a lot of patience for create a good play. Almost i can play well against Red Bull or Marsella, and starting to make good play against Manchester. Now i start to getting that OLD PES feeling (3 or 4), when it was really difficult to score and each goal is celebrated like a party. I reicibed a penalty in the last minutes (the only one since i start to play the demo) and it was cool to be afraid about goal or not) Anyway (and hoping that this demo itīs an old one compared to Leipzig) thereīs things to fix. Ronaldo free kicks are unstoppable, and you cannot move your goal keeper or the players that are trying to stop the ball. They only jump...and when itīs a freekick near to the area, is a clear goal. Most of the passes to the wing, for example, from the midde Xavi deep pass to Messi, are intercepted always by the defenders. I think that itīs a bit exagerated, i mean, itīs a high percentage, not very real. And in some passes, players are waiting for the ball. About new skill moves, i still thinking the same, may be use 3 or 5 times in a macth but no more, indeed, since i started to play the demo, the cpu did only 2 new skill moves. But as i say, the demo is becoming better each time that i play (or itīs me, of course) . If EA had fix this last mistakes for the final version, and they add this aditional layer of anti-aliasing as Miki said, it can be great. And, sure, TV cam is much acurate for to play (despite the rest of cams), so, it will be better a bit more close. Take care neovico The Mind cfdemarco 15-09-2007, 02:02:AM Imo, the speed is just right, the ball physics are incredible, players are not on rails, and they don't wait for the ball in most cases. WOW, are you kidding me? Players are COMPLETELY stuck on rails just like they were in 07 and UEFA. This is one of the first things I've noticed, and it's very easy to notice when you're running after a through ball and you can see that the defender is going to beat you to the ball and you want to take a better angle to defend but you can't because your player is stuck running straight. You can't make him stop, you can't make him change directions, you can't do anything but let the pre-scripted play run its course. This is a MAJOR problem in the gameplay. However, an even bigger problem than this is the fact that players DO wait for balls to come to them every single time. Earlier I played the demo with the special intent of actively trying to get my players to run towards long passes and they simply WILL NOT DO IT. This makes the gameplay even slower than it already is and causes a lot of turnovers. I honestly can't understand how you can say that these things don't happen. The passing problem is something that's obvious literally within the first pass you make. renski 15-09-2007, 05:13:AM its an improvement on fifa 07, the players are still very much stuck on rails, the general movement of the player isn't as free as it is in PES still a good game though elhelmiey 15-09-2007, 06:17:AM many of us should try to use the dummy/ cancel button so that players are not stuck on rails. the players can be controlled freely/ independently this way... it's same with fifa07 and uefa cl too Jore2 15-09-2007, 08:32:AM Anyway (and hoping that this demo itīs an old one compared to Leipzig) thereīs things to fix. Well I have actually jumped to stop C.Ronaldo's freekick, so it went over to corner. But yes, freekicks are way too accuracy from CPU it seems. ausbarca 15-09-2007, 02:35:PM from the videos of next gen, theres this feeling that you get with fifa games, ok so they got the ball detatched from players but i just think htat players dont move fluidly, they dont really move freely, its as if they are all connected via strings to something, i dontr know what it is but the players dont move realisitically, they dont mvoe to the ball , the keepers dont react to the balls properly, this needs to be fixed by ea before they can be on par with pes Jore2 15-09-2007, 02:48:PM players dont move realisitically, they dont mvoe to the ball , the keepers dont react to the balls properly, this needs to be fixed by ea before they can be on par with pes Yes they do move quite realistically and you have to move towards ball. It's not automoving(which is really good). And I wouldn't really comment PES yet if you haven't even played it and it seems you haven't played FIFA either. ausbarca 15-09-2007, 03:12:PM no i dont but i have pes 6 and fifa 07 and it seems both havent changed too much you can see jsut from looking, i have played the ******* things my whole life, you can tell these things just from looking, i recon fifa has been doing heaps well over the last few years but still a few things they need to fix up before they are any better is all i';m trying to get at Miki23 16-09-2007, 02:21:AM WOW, are you kidding me? If you use "Assistance" for through balls, passing, long balls/crossing, or even semi-assistance, then yes that's how the computer helps you - keeps your player on the 'rails' with the ball. If you keep things on manual, then you have to move a player to catch a ball. That's the whole point, so there's no 'rails' then. In regards to players waiting for the ball, similar thing. Try passing the ball and then straight away move a stick in the opposite direction of the ball your player will move towards it, every time. This works also with long balls, crosses etc... I will most definitely turn that stuff off and see how it feels. Thanks for the suggestion! Miki23 16-09-2007, 06:36:AM You know, that never even crossed my mind to try. I will most definitely turn that stuff off and see how it feels. Thanks for the suggestion! Oh, and one more thing... HOLD L2 and R2 together, that is CANCEL combination... So for example, do a long pass across the field, then right after the ball "leaves" the player's feet, press L2+R2 and you can move the receiving player as freely as you want. This works with Crosses, Long Passes, through balls, chipped through balls etc... For normal passes, you can cancel and move around, or you can just press the stick in the opposite direction and your player will always run towards the ball... EDIT: I just tried these things witheverything "assisted" and cancel works even when assistance is turned on... P.S. Hi neovico and Vikingo, good to see you fellas :o). I guess EA needs to be more upfront with the controls as it seems that a lot of people are not aware of many controls available. I'm not saying controls are perfect but they are actually quite complex compared to general perception of Fifa. They are sill not as responsive and tight as they should be, but nevertheless game is very enjoyable. My suggestion is that people go into controls menu and press R2 which will give you a list of all controls. Read it carefully and you'll find some very useful things... I guess, sometime it does pay to "read the manual". Cheers. Aragorn 17-09-2007, 08:44:AM P.S. Hi neovico and Vikingo, good to see you fellas :o).
