View Full Version : Kerlon dribble question

After watching Kerlon get flattened by some angry guy I got to wondering. What's stopping a player from shaping his hair into a giant container of sorts and having the keeper place the ball in his hair cup?

There's nothing in the rules against this if they keep the ball moving (i.e. small bounces) you know

Guessing this comes from this:

... apparently this Kerlon kid does it all the time, in which case that is pretty brilliant from the defender. Serves him right for taking the piss :D

If i was Kerlon i would've done the same thing, and if i was Coelho, idem. Anyway, taking the piss or not, he got a player sent off and that's a plus. He puts his body at risk everytime he does the trick, but he put it to some good use.

The defender was stupid about it, he used his elbow. I will always contend that if you jump and headbutt Kerlon, it is perfectly legal.

speaking of "smart tackles", let me share with you dudes one of Pelé's finest moments:
UNbta4WzmNY

Pelé's performance was so good that the ref awarded a foul against Uruguay
and for those wondering, I should add that this was his way of avenging what the Uruguayan did before (in the beggining of the video you can see him stepping on Pelé).

That's the thing, what you say is totally true, but few people keep their coolness when a guy does that in front of them when they're losing a match. Like i said, Kerlon puts his integrity at risk everytime he does it but he has a good shot at getting someone carded.

Kerlon is a douchebag in my opinion.

Bobby

I'm worried that someone is going to do what I'd do and try to flick it off him with their foot (which lots of players are physically capable of given that Kerlon isn't the biggest) and their foot isn't going to get high enough and he'll get totally ****ed up with a neck injury (i.e. that boy in Scotland who's heart stopped because he got kicked in the throat).

in one game the defender actually kicked Kerlon in the chest deliberatly, it's f*cking brilliant (6)

what's brilliant on being an idiot?
Time will answer if the "seal dribble" is effective or not. Let him do it anyway, we will see if he's an idiot or a genius.

That would probably be a dangerous play and an instant red card.

The seal dribble is completely against the competitive spirit of football, and for that reason I would put myself at risk and headbutt him in the temple every time he did it around me.

EDIT: Kerlon can never play in Europe, because guys like Vidic and Materazzi would end his career. Legally.

FM God? Maybe in the MLS.
That was actually the most effective I've seen a seal run, he took it quite far past a few players. He should have tried controlling the ball before "crossing it". BTW the other team sucks.

Kerlon is a douchebag in my opinion.

Why?

Hmmm, yeah... brilliant from the defender... he showed that he had no means to stop Kerlon without resorting to a clattering... and got red carded afterwards

and don't come with that "he did that because Kerlon is a douchebag" crap... if the defender could legally take the ball from Kerlon, he would do it... but the way i see it, he just couldn't and he knew it... and that's irritating, of course... i know it very well, because sometimes i do play against some skilful players, and they are very irritating because they make it very hard for any defender to tackle them legally and take the ball away from them... but hey, that's life man... sometimes we just get owned, and we have to know how to deal with it, otherwise we can get ourselves into some serious mess...

Kerlon can never play in Europe, because guys like Vidic and Materazzi would end his career. Legally.

... or maybe not! Don't forget that nowadays there are cameras everywhere, and even if the refs don't notice the cruelty in the moment of the tackle, that will be reviewed later on, and some actions will be taken towards the defender... maybe a very long suspension...

Anyway, if a player can't keep his cool, then he better not play against skilful opposition... because he'll get pissed, owned, and prolly red carded...

Micah Richards could probably leap high enough to take possession away from Kerlon with his feet.

Man Utd have been linked with Kerlon recently by the way. I'm not too sure about him though. There is more to him than just this trick. At his age group he is a prolific goal scorer for his national team. But innovation in the football world shouldn't be hated on like it is with this kid. He's trying something new. Leave him alone :p

Yeah... and that's because Richards is world class, and is not an idiot, unlike that defender who clattered Kerlon, and who some people call 'brilliant'...

All it takes is for a tall, strong defender to step in front of him while he's looking up at the ball for him to run straight into them and fall straight on his arse... that's hardly cruel is it?

The Braaten video is impressive as he's just done it spur of the moment, whereas with Kerlon he seems like a complete one-trick pony. In my view, the guy needs to be (legally) taught a lesson with a couple of hard (legal) challenges from someone like Vidic or Materazzi. If only the likes of Roy Keane, Tony Adams or Martin Keown were still around...

That's actually not cruel at all, and only in some rare cases that would represent a career-ending injury to Kerlon... but that defender lacked the necessary agility and timing to stop a player like Kerlon... and that got him irritated, because no one likes to be owned like that... but only the idiots react like he did....

My point: he clattered Kerlon, not because Kerlon was being a douchebag, but because he got irritated and picked a little fight for no sensible reason... and there's a name for that: 'incompetence and unprofessional behaviour'...
For some people, the guy was brilliant and he did what every defender should do in the same situation, because Kerlon was asking for it... for me, he was just incompetent and the only douchebag in this particular incident....

There is no way to steal the ball from him without a foul. This play should be disallowed. The same way you can't keep a grip on the ball with your legs.

Depends on the referee and the country: In Brazil (the place where he currently does it) most referees would call a foul, because the defender is trying to stop the player not the ball.

Kibe Kru
25-09-2007, 10:36:AM
yup, it'd be a foul... no wonder we have 50+ fouls a match here...

I guess that because of his small stature, the ball could be headed away whilist in mid air no?

Kibe Kru
25-09-2007, 10:10:PM
easier said than done.... most referees around here would call a foul if you got close enough for a header, as the ball is directly over him.

Jaboldinho
26-09-2007, 06:00:AM
I think it shouldn't be a foul when you just give a nice little tackle against his shoulder, doesn't need to be even hard, as he's that small and probably concentrated on the dribble, also standing in front of him could do the job, if he can't dodge you, his problem.

RobbieD_PL
27-09-2007, 01:34:AM

But if the ball is in mid-air its a legal challenge; Just because he's dribbling the ball off his forehead that doesn't mean he's not allowed to be stopped (:/)

Kibe Kru
27-09-2007, 03:55:AM
tell that to our refs man, I do think it is fair game to try and play the ball while it's on the air, but not our refs. You'd be amazed at the fouls given here.

Kerlon would struggle to do that in a top league, besides it does kinda look like he's a one trick pony. He will get clattered.

Great German Suplex by the gridiron guy - better executed than 90% of the WWE roster - Vince McMahon should hire that guy!

Tom
29-09-2007, 08:43:PM
Totally agree Mike, do that once in the Premiership and you'll get away with it once, do it against any of the below teams and he'll get concussed:

Blackburn
Portsmouth
Bolton
Liverpool
Chelsea

And pretty much the rest of the Premiership too.

EDIT - In fact, imagine trying that in League One (H)
