So, finally it's here, the new Football Manager game, got it in the mail today, and I can't wait to get starting with FM08, haven't played enough to get any impressions yet, but please post your first impressions of the game:)

I'm wondering if I should buy it. I could go for the shops tomorrow but I've got some exams coming up next week, so I probably won't be able to play the game any time soon anyway. Might aswell buy it a few weeks later.

This is a good game but the only downfall with it is the stats for certain players, some of them are way off. Ive just had to spend an hour changing them in the editor. There is also a severe lack of player pictures in the game, theres only the spanish league and David Beckham!. Apart from the minor problems it is a very good game

Can you give me a list on what you changed stats of?

Hargreaves has a CA of 171, which is huge, his potential ability is 179, which is equally huge. Are you really saying that you think Owen Hargreaves is gonna become far better than he is now at Man Utd? If so you're gonna be sadly disapointed my friend.

I mean Nani is even better! You've got him with a CA of 150, and a potential ability of -9. I mean for ****s sake, the guy could be a god with those kind of ratings.

The other day I was out with a friend, and he brought another friend of his with, one that I didnt even know. So we started talking about things and we ended up talking about FM07. And you know what he said after a while? "Yeah, but I liked LMA on PS1 much more. It was much better"

I feel like 4-4-2 is still heavily favoured by the game engine. In 07 any 4-4-2 that you made (as long as common sense was applied) would be sufficiently effective and, while it's not as bad this year, the whole-pre-season-tuned 5-3-2 is still inferior to the 4-4-2 you put together.

Marking is still pathetic.

I've got the game and its really good. I always start with Man Utd, and I'm doing pretty well, first in the league etc.

The defence problem is caused by a closing down bug which is gonna be fixed with a patch.

Otherwise the game is pretty much bug-free and the new skin is great.

quick question, bros. Should I wait for the first big patch to come out before fully committing to the game and starting a long campaign? Currently, I'm just ******* around with the Arse, only about a month or so into the game, but if I'm really gonna bite into the game and play like a decade+ long with a team and draw total enjoyment out of this game, it's gotta be with some bottom feeding second division club, man.

What exactly does -9 mean?

A PA between 190 and 200.

Potential Ability. Many players in the FM database have random potential. So one player can be really awesome in one game and just average in another. Something to make things more unpredictable. -9 is used for extremely talented players who are expected to become world class later in the game.

I have the beta patch, but there are still some minor bugs. However, the major bugs have been fixed, and its perfectly playable :)

I wouldnt go even near a beta patch myself... At least not using a "good" savegame. For testing reasons and only. Plus it will proly require reinstalling. Too much doing/undoing and risk for nothing (well, for "working" closing down...)

Well then you're an idiot. Owen Hargreaves turns 27 years old in January, that is when players are in their prime, not when they are still developing. Joe Cole is almost a full year younger. Secondly, Bayern ripped you guys off like no other with that purchase price. But thanks for funding the Klose and Toni transfers... you know, ACTUAL world class players, much appreciated.

i am incredibly disappointed with this game, firstly the amount of bugs are insane, one player had been at my club since 1900 and i couldnt field any of my first grade players in a pre season cup game for some odd reason (anyone else get this in the a league pre season cup?) and its pretty much the 07 with a new skin

realize a bug (i suppose?) that occur when you make a tactical change during pitch action. anything changes you make during the pitch action will extend the scene for another 15-30 seconds for no reason before your changes apply.

eg: keeper waiting the ball play back to him to start a goal kick or opponent's sub running from off-screen into the pitch.

I'm sure you'll understand why this happens once you figure out how the 2d engine works. Itsalways been like that, just this year, because the way tactics change isn't the same, its just made more obvious. It's deff not a bug. Maybe you can call it an imperfection of the 2D engine, but then again its only a matter of perception. IMO it makes changing tactics more realistic. You can't IRL have a team that changes tactics in zero time.

they could fix the bug that makes the computer always tie the match no matter what you do or by how many goals you're winning though..imo that's worse than the closing down bug..
