View Full Version : O-Edit question

I'm trying to make my first face, and am running into some (probably simple) problems that I can't get straight.

To get the two textures to work on, I exported them from CM07 as a bmap, as well as exporting the o-edit file for the player. I created a new layer and put the new player's face over the old texture (not creating a new face for the same player, but doing a totally different player). After getting it to where I thought it looked decent, and wanting to preview it, I flattened it and opened the new texture on the old o-edit file. What I'm running into is this:

Here's the altered texture:

Is this where mapping comes into play? Did I choose a bad o-edit file to use, perhaps?

By the way, how do you guys choose which player's o-edit files and texture files to work over when making a new face?

Any clues would be appreciated. I'm trying to work through this, but some stuff just stumps me.

Thanks,

Nathan

I'm watching the facemaking tutorial, and 1) I picked a bad picture, as far as the smile, and 2) I probably picked a bad texture (one not close enough face structure-wise to the new one).

Does this seem about right? What's purpose of the eyes and teeth at the bottom of the texture if there's already eyes in the main texture?

you simply didnt make the texture right. a

lso you dont just make the texture open the o files that camer with the tutorial and put the texture on it. you gotta open the UV map thing and reshape the face to make it look right.

im a nobo to face making too but your face texture is incorrrect my guess.

and yes the facemaking tutorial video wasnt made to well i couldnt tell some of the stuff he was doign and tried to guess what he did.

just keep practicing

it seems when you amde teh texture you didnt make it right.

the face of the texture needs to be lower. i can see form that picture you put the eyes nose and mouth to high on the texture use free transform and move the eyes nose and mouth down.

you gotta make sure you mark the template on teh eyes nose and mouth (on a new layer) then on teh face picture layer put on opacity so you can see where you marked than you free transform and match teh locations of teh eyes nose and mouth on the picture with therefore location on the template. you didnt match the positions correctly hence it looks like that.

try again and this time use free transform to move teh face picture more down on the template.

good luck and keep trying. im no expert but i can see where you went wrong.

good start

Thanks for the input thelordspawn. I'm still wondering how people go about getting textures and o-models to work on. If just exporting using CM, how do you go about choosing which textures and o-models will work well? Or are you just using the old texture for the same person?

Also, what's the deal with the eyes at the bottom, and why do the textures from 07 have the players without eyes, yet when people make their own faces, they put the eyes in? Everytime I leave the eyes in, the eyes at the bottom are placed over it, but they don't line up.

Yeah, that tutorial was pretty good for the most part, but he left out a lot of the basic stuff, which makes is hard to figure out sometimes. I've been lining everything up using the opacity and free transform and all that, but my faces still don't look as good when I first open them in o-edit as that one he had did. He just did a little tinkering, whereas I'm having to do big reconstruction.

On a side note, how do you use the healing brush properly? I see him use it, but every time I mess with it, it looks horrible.

one you put the players face on the template you gotta merge the 2 then use it healing brush. right click the template part and click "merge visible" then use healing brush

everything else i got no clue
