View Full Version : My Fifa runs slow on my new laptop
O-car 09-11-2007, 07:14:AM I just bought a new laptop, and installed Fifa 08 on it. The laptop is a pretty good and powerful one, a Sony Vaio (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8548976&st=sony+vaio&type=product&id=1188560396687) , but my Fifa runs kinda slow on it. is there a setting I need to configure in order to make the game run smoother?
StevePitts 09-11-2007, 09:12:PM You need to disable either Speedstep (for Intel CPUs) or Cool'n'Quiet/PowerNow (for AMD processors). For Intel you can find all you need in Bay Wolf's Speedstep FAQ (http://www.bay-wolf.com/speedstep.htm) but I've never found an equivalent site for the AMD technologies

Is there a equivelant of Cool n Queit mode or Speedstep for ASUS Computers?
Platini10 15-11-2007, 05:28:PM Is there a equivelant of Cool n Queit mode or Speedstep for ASUS Computers?
Hi, "Cool n Quiet" is a process used for 64 bit AMD processors. You will need to find out which CPU (Processor) that you are running in your ASUS Computer. ASUS has motherboards that support AMD and INTEL processors. You should be able to find the information in your motherboard manual. Options like "Cool n Quite" can be turned on and off in the bios. Hope that helps.

Hi O-car!
I am running fifa 08 on laptop as well, my notebook is not that powerful one than yours but it can run the game pretty smooth. But i had to make some changes in the option file.
Please respond me:
that your game is running like slow motion
OR
it just gets sometimes laggy (for example in the middle of the field)????????
I need this info to help you out mate!!!!

There is a tool called Central Brain Identifier for AMD processors. Here you can set manually the highest speed of your cpu, and disable Cool n Quiet.
There is the link:

Maninho75 27-11-2007, 06:51:PM Hi,
I try to run fifa 08 on my new laptop as well, and i have the same problem : it runs very slow (menus and match).
Laptop : sony vaio fz21m
graphic card : geforce 8400M GT 256Mo-->1024
The game is running slow most of the time, but can suddenly start running "normal" for a while, and then slow again.
Is this problem related to Speedstep?
Thanks for your help

ArgVega 05-12-2007, 08:24:AM i just started encountering the same problem with my laptop, it didn't happen before. everytime i play a match, sometimes it gets really laggy all over for random periods of time. has anyone fixed this issue yet?
fifaddict81 03-02-2008, 11:13:PM i have the same problem guys

You've made four different posts about this and in none of them have you given us anything like enough information to help you. My best guess is that it is CPU throttling that is causing your problems (see my post at the top of this thread for more details) but since you've not told us anything about your PC, its operating system, any related driver details etc. then any other attempts at troubleshooting are going to be pissing in the wind

You're right my friend...i have a laptop HP:-Intel Pentium M processor at 1.73 GHz,1.24 GB of RAM with an INTEL mobile 915GM/GMS,910GML Expess Chip(128MB)-max Display:1280x800(32 bit)
Windows XP Prof with service pack 2
The strange thing is that the problem appeared after 4 seasons of manager mode(all normal)
please help me,thank u
StevePitts 05-02-2008, 09:31:PM Have you read Bay Wolf's Speedstep FAQ??
Have you tried disabling Speedstep in your BIOS??
What changes were made to your machine between the seasons when everything worked okay and when things started slowing down??
fifaddict81 06-02-2008, 03:00:AM yes i've already read Wolf's Speedstep FAQ and checked Speedstep but nothing.
Basically between the seasons i changed my antivirus(Kaspersky 6,now i have 7) and used CM 08 to change some kits..i've tried to disable my antivirus and reinstall the game without using CM 08(i started all over with a new career) but nothing..
i am disappointed...anyway,thanks for your reply Steve.
StevePitts 07-02-2008, 12:39:AM yes i've already read Wolf's Speedstep FAQ and checked Speedstep but nothing
Nothing in the BIOS for Speedstep or no change when you switch it off??
Have you tried setting the Power Scheme to Always On??

I didn't find any Speedstep in the BIOS,i searched everywhere..
The Power Scheme was already to Always On
fifaddict81 09-02-2008, 01:31:AM I guess i have to burn my pc and buy another one.

I believe that it doesn't always mention the Speedstep name (eg. it might be CPU speed control, or CPU throttling, or something with 'dynamic' and 'CPU' somewhere in the description) but I'd be surprised if there wasn't a way of turning off Speedstep. What is the exact make and model of the laptop??
fifaddict81 09-02-2008, 11:39:PM HP Pavillion dv4000 4253EA,thanks for your help mate!I will look again right now

The HP site implies that this should all work out of the box for your laptop:
HP Notebook PCs - Determining the Processor Speed in Windows XP (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00370524&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=1154620&dlc=en&lang=en)
but you might also care to take a look at this utility that I've seen recommended in various places:
SpeedswitchXP - CPU frequency control for notebooks running Windows XP (http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/)
samueljuarezf 10-02-2008, 08:49:PM I've an ACER Aspire 5100, AMD Turion 2.2 Ghz 1Gb RAM 256 Mb Video ATI Radeon Express 1100 Win XP SP2 and FIFA also runs slow, well sometimes fine then slow, then fine, you know what I mean. I've tried to disable Cool 'n' Quiet/PowerNow! thingy but doesn't appear in the BIOS menu -I've checked for alternate names and nothing- and with the program posted in the last page I've tried but says that can't be disabled. Is there another program to disable that thing or something that I've gotta do to make my fifa work fine? I unplugg the LAN cable, and practically I just leave FIFA running when I try to play and always keep slowed down, I've tried running it with all the energy settings available -Home and Office, Laptop settings, Always turned on, etc.- and nothing happens... I think I've gotta burn my pc too and get a desktop :(
What can I do? Someone? (U)

I will try both, thanks for your help my friend! I appreciate it!
passerby24 10-02-2008, 10:19:PM Hey guys, solved it. A friend of mine with Pavillon and Fifa 08 has the same problem. Download prime95 and run it with the first option. It's a CPU benchmark utility, it's smart, so you won't even notice it running, except for the cooler noise. It will force your C2D to run on the maximum frequency. Think EA will release a patch for this? Becouse this behaviour seems truly lame to me. Till then this is a way to enjoy the game!
passerby24 10-02-2008, 10:32:PM Therefore the SpeedswitchXP solution MUST work! Thanks for the app anyway, I've been looking for this before.
fifaddict81 11-02-2008, 05:58:PM I tried SpeedswitchXP at the maximum performance but the problem persists:(
passerby24 11-02-2008, 06:43:PM OK nevermind, but try the prime95 (http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=103) instead. Almost 100% guaranteed to work. Worked on one HP Pavillon, will work on yours too.

OK!I'll try it.Can you be more specific about the first option??After the install i have to make the test?
passerby24 11-02-2008, 09:37:PM When you start it, you will see 4 radio buttons. Check the first one (maximum FPU stress, RAM not tested much), hit OK and start Fifa.
fifaddict81 12-02-2008, 04:55:PM tested but nothing,the problem persist....thanks anyway.
passerby24 12-02-2008, 10:22:PM Didn't you forget to turn off any Clocking programs like SpeedswitchXP, are you on AC plug and is your power setting on Max performance?
