View Full Version : Fifa 2007 - drivers problems again...

All, here's my issue after a long time with none... I changed to a new, bigger screen and of course as soon as I loaded new graphics drivers (for NVIDIA GeFroce 7800 GS) my Fifa 2007 started having issues again. The game loads fine, but when a match is starting either it's choppy or the whole game crashes.

I remember when I got Fifa 2006 I could not run it with the newest drivers. So I found an older driver and it worked great. Now, although I know I had nv4_disp (6.14.10.8198) that used to work, even after the downgrade I still have the problem. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hi,

I used to run with two 7800GTX cards with the 81.98 driver and it was flawless, even on fifa08. I liked that driver because it was one of the last that allowed you to override the refresh rate when connecting an LCD monitor using DVI. Anyways, have you tried using a driver cleaner to ensure that the old video driver was completely removed before installing the new driver? Here is post that placed a couple of weeks ago. I change drivers a lot and have never failed with this process:

You need to uninstall the previous driver and then install the new one. Driver clean-up can become messy. I use "Driver cleaner 3" as well - google it, it's free. Here is what I do:

1) Go to add remove and Remove the nvidia display driver only - do not reboot

2) delete the c:/nvidia folder

3) empty recycle bin

4) run driver cleaner and select "nvidia" from drop down list and select "clean"

5) reboot into "safe mode" and disconnect from internet- hit f8 while loading to get into safe mode- hit cancel when windows finds the new hardware-

6) run drivercleaner 1 more time (same as step 4) and run again until there are no programs listed in the top window pane of the driver cleaner.

7) empty recycle bin

8) run new driver executable

9 ) reboot and adjust your display settings

Best of luck to you!

I really appreciate you taking the time to describe what I can try - thank you.

Here's where I am at now.
I got the Drive Cleaner. I followed your steps, uninstalled them, removed the NVIDUA folder, run the Cleaner a few times, rebooted, in the order above. Then I ran the driver for 81.98 again. What I have noticed the screen and all other games that I test (Stalker, SupCommander) run fine, but Fifa2007 starts, but then usually hangs during team or player selections (in one case I got through and played one game, only to have it all freeze again during player selection before the other game.

Then I got desperate. I went to NVIDIA site and search for anything they suggest for my card - and it turned out to be NVIDIA Detonator 63.75, as a download called 163.75_forceware_winxo_32bit...

Same result, screen looks great (res 1680x1050), games play fine, but Fifa07 gets stuck again during player selections...

Now let me mention what I should have started with to begin with - this is how my trouble started:

I've had Fifa07 running on NVIDIA 7800 GS with NVIDIA 81.98 Detonator driver on my old 19' monitor. In the past I could not run it on the most recent driver, but one I found 81.98 Fifa07 (and Fifa06), and other games, ran great.

So my specs were:

AMD Athlon XP-A, 1833 MHz
Asus A7N8X-E Delux
2GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GS (256 MB)
XP SP2

w/ 19' monitor

Now, I bought 22' Samsung SyncMaster 220wm.
And, (here comes trouble...) I replaced my current video card with NVIDIA 7300 (512MB). Since I put in this 7300 card, I loaded its drivers. Well, by the time I realized I made a mistake I put my original card in, reloaded 81.98 drives, and then installed the new monitor.

Things looked good again, better yet with the big new screen - until something made me try Fifa07 and then the misery began...

So now, I am not giving up on the new monitor, but I've reinstalled the driver (91.82, as well as the one from NVIDIA), and then tried all those games and only Fifa causes me trouble,
Now I have my resolution set to 1690x1050, which I like, and all games play, but Fifa.

Hopefully I provided enough background.

Thank you,

FYI - I have this thread in the Fifa07 Support forum, I'll update that one since this one is redundant. THanks.

Hi,

Here's a silly question, why did you replace a 7800 with a 7300? The 7800 256 mb is a better card than the 7300 512.

Here's a good graphic card comparrison from Tom's Hardware:

Graphic Card Chart (http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/11/06/best_graphics_card/page6.html)

Are you using the old card again? The 7800? I'm guessing you're still running with an AGP card. What are your power supply specs? The info is on the sticker on the side of the PSU. You should hope to have at least a 400 Watt supply with a minimum of 20A on the +12 Rail for that card.

I would also put the old card (7800) back in and do a clean/unistall of the driver and load the 81.98 driver again.

Best of luck.

From what he posted I'd say that he already has, but we've obviously interpreted the same text differently :)

It was my stupid mistake - I got excited by the 512MB... I put it in, noticed worse performance, and then did the research... and realizing what I've done I switched back to my original 7800.

I have 600W power supply now. I went back to 91.82 driver last night - and completed one game, with a fifa.exe crash before I started another one. Crysis, Stalker, SupCommander all run great.

Yeah, I have.
It wouldn't be so strange if I had no idea what I had running prior to my 'upgrade'. But I have my Everest report with my machine specs prior to change, with 81.98.

Could it by my monitor set to 1680x1050 causing issues now?

See the other thread for a couple more comments on the situation, but this one made me ponder. Have you tried setting your desktop resolution and FIFA game resolution to the same value?? If not, I'd give that a go (I know it will look ugly on a widescreen monitor, but at least it eliminates another possible cause)

I got it, at last.

Knowing I had 81.98 detonator drivers before, I was running in circles and could not believe what else could be wrong. And as suggested above, after reconnecting my old monitor my problem continued.

So... I took a few days of break - and though what the heck I might be missing. Well, often it's the easy and obvious we overlook... so I check my Device Manager and I see 2 exclamation marks. One of them had to do with a bad driver/chipset for motherboard. I went to the nvidia site and downloaded the whole packege that might match my mother board - after that both exlamation marks went away.

And then, no more issues with Fifa07!

Thank you all for you help, I sure learned a lot!

Glad you got it sorted out in the end, and it just shows the value of taking a step back when you get so embroiled in a problem that you feel like you are banging your head on a brick wall.
