View Full Version : ManU 8-1 S'pOre......bU thereZ more......READ ON~!!!
well, as u've seen it...ManU thrashing Malaysia 6-0, and now S'pore (mi country) 8-1.
it might have been seen like a rout, but seriously, s'pore did play well in the opening 20mins and ManU only managed to socre thru' Ole after 25 mins. but suddenly, s'pore's counter attack paid off as Indra Sahdan scored a beauty one-on-one equalizer against Rai.
although that was the highlight for local fans, there were still more ahead. of the 8 goals, only 4 goals were pretty decent goals. the other 4 were all deflected into the net, including a Phil volley, Becks freekick and Yorkie goals.
however, with 10 mins left on the clock, Fergie sent on Barthez as a sub, not in a keeper's kit, but a player's kit. he replaced Ruud and what a crowd favourite he was. they were always off their seats when Barthez had the ball and man was he corny.....hahaha.....
Help? 24-07-2001, 05:08:PM Lol, i've heard' that too, about Bartez, by the way what position did he played for ten minutes, i only know that he was wearing #14 shirt and that's it.
erhm, he was always down da left flank...but he hardly ran....so fat and all....LOL
Number9 24-07-2001, 09:43:PM Here is a pic of Barthez playing out...

iceboy 24-07-2001, 10:01:PM I liked the saves made by Singapore Goalkeeper(Rezal Hassan, not sure the spelling) in the first 20 minutes... espeicially Schole's screamer. He's fantastic, but the defence let him down later.
DJLethal 24-07-2001, 10:40:PM Yeah I read it too. Barthez rules!! I like him so much because even in important Champions League games he runs up the field, and sometimes tries a shot. Like against Anderlecht. He ran up to the opponent's half and shot on goal. And what about the second leg against Bayern? Great keeper. I wish I could have seen him actualy play on the wing. And I love the fact that van Nistelrooy keeps making his goals. Does anyone know where I could maybe download a summary or something of the match?
Number9 25-07-2001, 12:09:AM This is the BBC match review CLICK HERE (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport/hi/english/football/teams/m/man_utd/newsid_1454000/1454009.stm)
Jambo Den 25-07-2001, 01:06:AM can you imagine how tempted David Beckham must have been to go shopping for some (womens)clothes in Orchid Road during the game????
sorry i'm not a good comedian
iceboy 25-07-2001, 06:22:AM I was at the training. Barthez is training with the rest of the players and just Van der Gouw training as Gk.. but I really didn't know he will sub as a player!
At the training, there's a time where they were playing "monkey". (The game where the players formed a circle and pass the ball to one another, 2 'monkeys' in the centre will try to intercept. Whichever players, when passing the ball, let the 'monkey' intercept, he will be the monkey.)
Naturaly, Barthez is the monkey most of the time as he WAS suppose to train with Van der Gouw.
What you didn't see on TV:
Barthez was training crossing the ball to Van der Gouw before the match.. so...(DAMN, i knew something is wrong) ;)
YJ, where were u sitting. I'm at the east stand where there's annoying national day parade stage.
Singapore did amazingly well during the first 30 minutes. Then I guess we(singapore players) became tired and played poorly. Our players are not just trained to be world class players like Man utd.

genesis 25-07-2001, 06:50:AM Indeed. The Lions really gave Red Devils hard time in the opening 20 minutes, however, the Red Devils seemed to be only 50% in their speed.
Good to see Veron and Van Nistelrooy settling well into the squad. Yorke looked very sharp too.
For me, the best goal was scored by Giggs.
S'pore's goal is not bad either.

Yep... i agree... His saved a couple of good shots. The best one to me is the shot from David Beckham which would have "drilled" a hole in the net if it went in... LOL
He did well... so did Lionel Lewis who replaced him around 60mins or so...

Errmm... big spelling error. It's Orchard Road, not Orchid Road... you know... orchid is a name of singapore's national flower ;)
Haha iceboy,ur hope for singapore is playing better than malaysia almost came true, but too bad.i think if singapore did not equalize.i think the score will be maybe same wif malaysia.=]
iceboy 26-07-2001, 08:40:AM We just don't have stamina :(
