View Full Version : Arsenal v Leeds Woody_007 16-04-2000, 07:01:PM 4-0!! First Kanu off of a beautiful run from Silvinho. Then Overmars!!! 4-0!!! HAHA!! At least something good has happened this weekend. PolishPower 16-04-2000, 09:06:PM The ref was a scandal, he was calling everything for Leeds and giving Arsenal undeserved yellow cards, when some guy almost broke Pettit's ankle with a stomp he didn't call a foul. The red card(on initiative of assistant ref) to Harte on foul on Bergkamp sealed the game, I think he deserved it. Highlight was Bergkamp coming off to chants of "Dirty Cheating Bastard". It was a good game, but not great, Leeds are simply not in the same class right now, can you say 7 losses in a row??? antithesis 16-04-2000, 09:30:PM I almost feel like laughing, but, when I put on my objective hat I feel Leeds deserve to be at least in the top three this season. It's a collossal pity that their season may just be "another good year". I also think it's a sin if Liverpool place second this year. Go gunners! Onca again Wenger has shown why he's one of the top three football minds in the world. After seeing Henry struggle at Juventus I would never have imagined him being such a destructive force in British football. I still say had Anelka been there the Gunners would have wrapped up second place by now. Back to Leeds, I have changed my mind, they deserve to be punished for not paying Hasselbaink, the whole world and its moon knew he was worth the price and I am pleased that after Hasselbaink denied Arsenal the League title last year, that a Striker-less Leeds have been mutilated. LKet's get rid of Liverpool now! shez 16-04-2000, 11:18:PM there's only one Jimmy Floyd Hasslebank.. LiverpoolFAN 17-04-2000, 03:45:AM why would it be a sin if liverpool finish second?!? Neutral 17-04-2000, 04:10:AM Hmm, yes, I would like to know as well.... Woody_007 17-04-2000, 06:02:AM Ian Harte sent off for kicking Bergkamp. Kewell ran into Lee Dixon and I think hurt his nose. He tried to draw the foul, but he hit Dixon, not the other way around. This game has been one of passion and raw talent. Ian Harte is an idiot for pulling something like that. Arsenal should be 4-0 up .... but it is 1-0, on Henry's 20th minute strike. Leeds contiune to self-destruct. GO GUNNERS!! [This message has been edited by Woody_007 (edited 04-16-2000).] Woody_007 17-04-2000, 06:47:AM 2-0!!! LEE DIXON IN THE 70th!!! Woody_007 17-04-2000, 06:54:AM KANU!!! 3-0!!!! Silvinho made a run all the way into the box, Martyn saved the first shot, and Kanu finished it! Hunnter 17-04-2000, 07:23:AM No...i don't believe that Leeds should be punished for anything, a player demanded a huge pay increase and it was rejected, the club stood firm on its policy...O'Leary has faith in the young players that make up the first team squad, all well and good while they are winning games and keeping up to the pace of the Premier League, now that they have hit a bad patch, out come the " I knew it, and i warned you" statements, I am a die hard Leeds follower, they have been my team ever since i was a seven year old kid, i can live with this seasons performance, and can accept the results from any game that they play, this current Leeds side still have a way to go before they can even dream about winning Euro titles and Premier Leagues..so they have hit a bad patch, they will all learn from it and hopefully be more acute for next seasons campaign, i admit that "Jimmy" has been sorely missed, he is a class striker that any team would open the door for, and yes Leeds do need a Killer striker up at the front of the attack, the kids in there at the moment need an established player in the front line..i havn't yet seen the match, but the highlights will be on Sydney tv tonight,a post from the Leeds United site stated that it was "The Boys v The Men"...that is just fine by me, at least it was the truth of this game, and was to be expected from this match...I will loose no sleep over this result or any other result for that matter... it is the way of Pro football, you win, you loose, you draw...In regard to Liverpool, they are another side who went thro a dismal patch this season, now they are back on form and now look like ending up in second spot, good on them, they never quit or laid down while they were struggling, now they are reaping the rewards of there resilience and quallity...Aston Villa another team that went into a "Sack the Manager" frenzy, now they are back on song and playing good football...All teams go thro a bad patch, the trick is to try to correct it as quickly as possible and get back on track... http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/wink.gif Daniel 17-04-2000, 09:25:AM hahaha Loser Leeds lost 4-0 Arsenal killed you guys See you in the UEFA Cup Final, but Gala will kill you just like the fans killed your fans. Hunnter 17-04-2000, 09:49:AM Daniel, for once in your miserable and spitefull existence, could you at LEAST make an attempt to post something constructive..mmmm.......LOOSER ??.. perhaps you should take a long and deep look at yourself, you have a major problem with your attitude and your conduct... Kewell the Jewell 17-04-2000, 03:05:PM Daniel do you even think before you type?? have some respect.... Kewell the Jewell 17-04-2000, 03:10:PM Huntter i rekon that we need a top class striker....and quickly...someone for Smith and bridges to learn off Neutral 17-04-2000, 03:59:PM If you have the money (which I think Leeds do), you should go for Ruud Van Nistelrooj... Hunnter 17-04-2000, 04:16:PM I don't think that O'Leary will delve into the transfer market untill this season ends..and yes Nilstenrooy would be a terrific addition to the team...but if you notice, most of the top overseas players only seem to stick around for a couple of seasons, then they start to get the move on bug again...O'leary was working on his young team and hoping for success with them, but they still need time to mature into a more accomplished team......IE:> David Smith missing a Gift from Kewells setup, that is one of the reasons that Leeds are now loosing matches, via basic mistakes that have started to become very costly to them.. so now we wait for Thursday nights big match against Galatasary, this game will certainly test the mettle of the Leeds squad...I think Leeds by the odd goal, but not enough to go thro' on the aggregate score...... SBS is televising the match at 4:45Am on Friday the 21st, Aussie time....and yes Neutral, Leeds have a few million pounds stashed away in the Elland Road vaults, so there should be no problems with financing a big signing or two... Off Topic:> Who would have placed a bet on the Sheffield v Chelsea game...this is another example of the Tricks and Traps of the Premier League..on form, Sheffield needed a three goal start, Chelsea had a cold game and paid the price for it... [This message has been edited by Hunnter (edited 04-17-2000).] antithesis 17-04-2000, 07:39:PM Okay mates, I am back. Interesting how the conversation has now entered the we want an expensive striker phase. Of course that makes O'leary look inconsequentially silly, and..... NO! I HAVEN'T JUST COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT LEEDS MISSES HASSELBAINK. For the simple reason that I never bought into this o'leary babes nonsense. That team had a vertebra of Hasselbaink, Batty, and Radebe who figuratively were the head, heart and legs of the team. Those fringe youth are valuable and then there is this "groomed" nonsense. Aren't three of their best players newly purchased. Having said that, I like the team's approach to football, which is a perfect segway ( is that spelt correctly) to my grouse with Liverpool. For those who care; this has nothing do with facts. Those facts being that the team defends aggressively, the coach has done wonders and they have accomplished this through injuries, but........and this is emotion, and I have written it before........It turns my stomach to see the team of Dalglish, Souness, Johnston, Mc Dermott, etal, play this gruesome, soak-up the pressure, non-possession, overly tactical style of grind out results football. Remember this is just my opinion. I could be wrong and often am...... Canoe 17-04-2000, 09:27:PM Hey Woody_007, give credit where credit is due. 2-0!!! Martin Keown scores !! Dixon didn't even touch it, Keown headed the ball into Kanu, ball bounced back and Keown volleyed it home. Antithesis - Liverpool have been brilliant this season and deserve their place. They played a big part of their season without their major strikers and yet are 2nd in the table. I can only say congrats to Liverpool for an excellent season. Kewell - I'm sorry, but Smith is a waste of time, he's a poor scorer, way to aggresive and although his interplay seems good he's not a A-team player. And as a final comment, I would just like to say that perhaps O'leary should follow the example of Wenger. He just needs to look overseas a bit. Just look at Wenger's purchases since his arrival. Everytime he's bought a player he hasn't gone for an established top player, but rather for the 'chance'. Petit & Grimandi -3mill, One a current international and the other proving him a very worthy squad member. Vieira - hardly a bench player before his move to Arsenal, now a French international. Kanu - a talented player whom no-one wanted to risk a chance on after his surgery, but Wenger did. Anelka - young untapped talent, bought for a bargain 500k. Even Henry, although 11m was a lot, he was not a first team regular but has already surpassed Anelka's total for last season and proven very valuable to Arsenal. And yes, then there are the Vivas and so on, but with the winning recipe that Wenger's had with the above guys I grant him the failure of Vivas. ( much like the failures of poborsky, cruyff, blomqvist at man utd ) Becks7 17-04-2000, 09:28:PM daniel, you are a fu**ing a$$hole! Woody_007 17-04-2000, 11:43:PM Hey Canoe .... sorry ... I was listening on the radio and the stupid guys said that Dixon scored, it wasnt until today when I saw it was Keown. MY BAD!! With this entire Hasselbaink thingy .... it serves Leeds right .... they did not pay him the money he deserves and it cost them in the long run. Of course had they kept him, he would not have torn up Barca's defense least Wednesday ..... but that's ok. O'Leary knew what he was doing when he let Jimmy go (I think) .... he wanted to focus on youth and develop a trust. Maybe Jimmy broke that trust or that compatriotness that a team needs to survive. (See Anelka .... although Arsenal have done very well, which of course is why we are here in the first place) And besides .... this is Leeds' first year in a while where they have been title contenders in England and in Europe. It is a learning experience for them all, and it will suit them better to learn this TOGETHER instead of O'Leary bringing in anyone and screwing that bond up. 'Sides, Arsenal are gonna win England next year. Oh well .... Jimmy might leave Athletico I hear .. which is also good, cause they are gonna get relegated. And for Jimmy, I have four words for you: COME TO BARCA!!! PLEASE!! Another Official WOODY_007 MESSAGE. 2K©. Hunnter 18-04-2000, 05:41:AM An excellent point of view in regard to the backbone of the Leeds side..Radebe..Batty..Jimmy H...Batty injured/sick.....Radebe has been injured and Jimmy moving around the globe with the wallet in his hand...so adjustments are needed to settle things down in there..Batty is nearing the end of his career, so another player of his calibre is required, Radebe is going ok....so is it a striker that will solve the problem....and if so who will it be... and Wenger as purchased very well..Pettit was a super purchase and at the right price too, nice to see him score the final goal against Brazil in France... [This message has been edited by Hunnter (edited 04-17-2000).] PolishPower 18-04-2000, 06:15:AM Suker is available. I read an article 3 days ago in which Wenger said he would be free to leave at end of season because the competition at Arsenal for striker spots leaves him out of the starting 11. They got him for only 2 mil pounds, so I imagine he would be cheaper still now, and I think he can still play a bit. Kewell the Jewell 18-04-2000, 11:22:AM For al those who are interested Leeds potential target in the off season are: Olivier Dacourt Rio Ferdinand Robbie Fowler John Arne Riise Erlend Hanstveidt Azar Karadas (both above play for Brann Bergen in norway) these are just a few LINKED with leeds Dacourt is the most likely at the moment |
