i am planning to buy an Xbox360 to play FIFA 08.

i only plan to play FIFA.

Is the 256MB good enough to save the manager mode for several seasons?
in other words, i would like to know if i take a team and play for 9-10 seasons, is 256MB big enough?

If your planing to buy a new gaming system just to play Fifa I suggest you get ps3, it has more space and it's basically sold for the same price.

well, the xbox360 is $280 and the ps3 is $400 (at least that is what i understand) but since i only want to use it to play FIFa in manager mode, i wanted to know if it is worth it

Personaly I would not buy it just to play one game, but this is you were talking about and in the end it's up to you. Consider your financial status, can you afford it? would you rather buy something else with this money? 280$ is alot of money, but if you realy want it (I mean you cant get the idea of owning this game out of your head) go ahead and buy it. :)
