France's Starting 11 for the match:

Coupet
Gillet
Djorkaeff
Wiltord
Nee
Brechet
Dacourt
LeBoeuf (got sent off)
Karembeau
Camara
Robert

BUT you know what? No one made France choose that line-up and they lost fair and square - beating the world champs isn't exactly easy! Not to mention Australia didn't have Viduka and Kewell! Well done Australia!!

What an amazing line-up the French used! Aside from Djorkaeff, none of those players are starters or even regular substitutes.

Hoddle has said that he wants to be like Arsenal have lots of great French players! He wants player of the year Carriere, Jerome, Dugarry and Petit. I don't want Dugarry! We already have 5 good strikers!!!

Here's a short rundown that i just snitched from a site ........Ned

Our second best win in history
<Confederations Cup>

Frank Farina "coach\team boss'has rated the Socceroos’ 1-0 victory over France in the Confederations Cup as the second best win in Australia’s history.

The Socceroos defeated the World Champions last night, thanks to a Clayton Zane goal in the 60th minute, and Farina said only the win that put Australia into the World Cup for the one and only time ranks higher.

“When Australia beat Korea in 1974 to go to the World Cup. This rates second to that,” Farina said. “A close second.”

“We played arguably one of the best teams you’ll see an Australian team play.”

Farina said that there would be “shock and disbelief around the world” following his team’s win over soccer’s heavyweights.

The Australian coach said his team almost played the perfect game. “The performance was very, very good. The players performed particularly well. We held our own in the first half and in the second half we totally dominated.”

With solid play from captain Paul Okon and Josip Skoko in the midfield, scores were locked at 0-0 at half-time.

After Zane slotted the ball into the back of the net, France responded immediately when Robert's cross found Frederic Nee in the six yard box, but his header was brilliantly parried by Mark Schwarzer.

Farina said his team, which was without stars such as Mark Viduka, Harry Kewell, Danny Tiatto and Mark Bosnich, still contained players who represent some of the best club teams in the world. “They’re used to pressure situations now. The team spirit is fantastic and the belief is there that we can go out and match it against anyone.”

But while delighted with the victory, Farina wanted to keep things in perspective, looking ahead to the World Cup qualifiers. “It’s a wonderful victory, but there’s no point doing well here and stumbling in June.”

The Australians will fly to Seoul today and have a training session at 5pm local time. Tomorrow they take on Korea, with a win certain to see the Socceroos through to the next round of the tournament.

Farina said he could make around six changes to the team that played France, citing tiredness amongst the players, with the schedule requiring them to play three games in five days. But he said there would not be any complacency against the Koreans, following the stunning win.

“It’s going to be a war,” he said. “A full house with an electric atmosphere in front of 40,000 screaming Koreans. We’re expecting a battle and they’re going to throw everything at us.”

Confederation's Cup, so it wasn't a friendly, but for some reason France made 11 changes to the team that beat S.Korea 5-0 a few days before and played their second string players (ie no Thuram, Candela, Lizarazu, Zidane, Anelka, Henry, Viera, Petit etc).

Regardless, it's still an excellent result for Australia who were also missing Kewell and Viduka.

Anyone see the whole match? I only saw the highlights.

Nup.

Soccer coverage is absolutely hopeless in Australia. We'd be lucky to see maybe 5% of our country games.

Yet all the while our screens are overwhelmed with stupid crap like AussieRules and Golf and Cricket!! ACK!!

Could it BE more boring?

I knew we would win, or at least draw. ever since we beat scotland 2-0 then they beat scotland 2-0 as well. damn stupid football sites and stuff say that france were under strenght but what about us aussies? we didn't have kewell, viduka, tiato (are best three players) and more. anyway, we rule.
GO AUSSIES
