this year wil be no new leagues,EA announced that there will be over 500 teams and 30 Leagues, as well as around 40 national teams, the same number as in FIFA 08. Russia will be there, if you start the demo, you can see a logo which symbolizes the Russian league(a russian eagle). 100%.

Looking through the database files, I found LOTS of Argentine teams, though no reference to a league...

There won't be any new league, check out db. and language files.;)
The logo with that eagle is for the ploish league.

@Tizmo: Yeah, there is also some data for Arabian and Asian teams (e.g: Al Wadah, Urawa, Al Ain,...), but these were already in 08 and I guess in some other previous fifas.
However they never found their way into the game.

If i remember well, someone wrote, that the TCM(FIFA Manager) and FIFA08 used the same database or something like that, that is why FIFA08 contained tonns of extra teams(which would be needed in the Rest of World section, not Polish second division teams which are, well...useless)

I was in the Event of FIFA 09 in Warsaw, and from what I know EA is not purchased new licenses, so will the same league as in 08

No they were not, there are no romanian teams in Fifa 09. Some kid posting a rumor on the fifa 09 board does not mean it's confirmed.

if your talking about pc version gameplay is much better than 08. as reason pc version doesn't use the sam system as xbox360/ps3 is because 97% of pcs cant handle it thus if they used the same system as ps3/xbox 360 version only 1-3% of pcs would be able to handle it so they had to us ea different system for pcs. and the gameplay is much improved from 08. plus with pc version who cares we canmake and add our own leagues into teh game.

as for Ps3/xbox 360 version of fifa 09 from the demo its is 1000000000000000000s times better than fifa 08 and thats just a demo final product will be even batter. so fifa 09 is definetely worth the money

they didnt add any leagues because they couldn't get any more licenses to add more leagues. they cant just add leagues without permission.

the pic that shows when loading the demo only shows 24 league logos and EA promised 30 leagues so there's still some space to have a league..

I'm really hoping that they included the Russian league. There is Russian language in the demo and this year they included Russian teams in NHL09 for the first time ever so hopefully they follow suit with FIFA

In rest of world i would add 3 or 4 teams from all the smaller european coutries as well as teams from Africa, Asia and South America so we can have realistic Champions League,uefa cup, Copa Libertadores etc.

Sorry folks, but assuming that the string database gives us a definitive picture (and there were no material differences between the FIFA 08 demo and the final version last year) then the FIFA 09 database tells us that:
there are no new leagues, although a few of the existing ones have been renamed (or mostly, changed sponsors)
there aren't a whole raft of new teams from particular countries, just the handful that you'd expect due to promotion/relegation
the Argentinian teams were there last year too (eg. Boca, Racing, Independiente, Newell's Old Boys, River Plate, Tigre)

As for me, FIFA Gameplay becomes worse with every version. It's less controllable with every year! If you want to play a perfectly controllable FIFA, grab 2001 or 2002. It's leagues better). So, I advise you NOT to spend your money at another version of FIFA Series.

I have a long list too, but in short : "All the leagues this f_cking world has."

But to be honest, i would only change a few teams, and add a few leagues which are really important. For example i would take out the A-League. No offense to the Australians, and i'm not even an enemy of the A-League, i'm happy to have Aussie teams also, but the league is completly useless. If there would be an Asian Champions League, then it would make any sense. The Brazilian League? Good to have, but 60% of the teams dont have licenses, and the rest which has, could be in the Rest of World, instead of Brazilian, Polish and Swiss second division clubs.

I would add the Russian, Greek and Ukrainian league + a few teams which could be used for something, like Steaua, Cluj, Debrecen, Levski Sofia or something like these.

for the CLUBS they must put AL AHLY FC ( Egyptian Club ) its the African Club Of Century , African Champions League winner in 2005 , 2006 and entered World Club Cup twice, respectively and took the 3rd place in 2006 and they must put other arabian or african teams in rest of world

At the beginning initially spoke that RPL will be in game.
But in Game presentation in Russia RPL not found... 8(

they need to add some south african and asian and south american leagues only league i really care about thats not in yet in greek league. dont know how it isnt in yet. pc no prob we can add it in but for ps3 thats problem obviously

I was skeptic that EA have 4 England leagues and only two or one division for LFP, Serie, BL and Ligue Orange.


Some worker in EA(???)said that 4 leagues of England are all professional, but 3. Liga, Serie C1+C2, Segunda Divison B is amateur league.

I hope to expand 'rest of world' league.....


Also in 07, Sparta Praha was the only Czech team on FIFA, but in 2008, Czech Gambrinus liga was add on FIFA.
That means some famous teams(???)in rest of world will be a part of league as soon as possible(Greek, Argentina.....)

no cause gta is an american made game and has nothing to do with popularity. its simple made in north america released in north america first. but fifa games are different. ea know fifa games will be alot more popular in europe (more specifically uk) than in NA so they release them earlier there. games like GTA are always gonna be just as popular in na an in europe and asia so they release at same time everywhere or if not na first

I have to be honest, i also find the number of english leagues excessive. League 2 isn't really needed, league 1 i'm not sure about. Championship is worth having though and the PL obviously. I'd rather see more top divisions for other european countries, which could then make for a more interesting UEFA CL and more qualifying rounds.

They are added because league 1 and 2 are fully professinal leagues unlike seri c1 and 2 etc....

Well, if they didn't buy any new licenses for new leagues, then maybe we'll get some more second divisions (don't forget that second divisions are not listed on intro screen). Dutch, Portuguese or American second division would sure make a great addition.

Which still doesn't change the fact the game is nothing more than a graphical update with minor gameplay alterations (alteration =/= improvement).
